Both of my HP laptops were epic failures. 3 more in the family have been absolute crap as well. Buy Dell, Toshiba, or Gateway. Acers are ok but tend to be a little shoddy and might fall apart on you.

I got a 1.8 -> 3.0 overclock using the stock fan on my c2d. If you want to upgrade later on just make sure the cooler you get does not need a backplate, you wont want to tear the whole thing apart just to put on a new cooler.

An 8800gt would give somewhere between 20 - 30% in games where your CPU does not bottleneck you.
