I couldn't believe they even had one in stock, but if you can find it @ a CC B&M it's definitely a steal at that price especially since it's brand new :)
The thing that annoys me the most is that you want sympathy for being a dumbass. "It's not my fault pizzas got ruined."

Wow.

So doods like, one time, I like, bought a game and like, OMG IT DIDN'T HAVE THE MANUAL. I sooooooooooooo need sympathy right now.

But Scorch, I'm still not clear on whether or not you feel sorry for him! I mean, he did lose a lot of money, but he's a hoarder, so that makes me kind of angry...

;)

Great post Toddler. Made for some entertaining reading on a Saturday night.

He also said that the thread was full of misinformation, that he was misled, and in that context now he learned not to believe everything he read.

But whatever, regardless if he tells the truth or not, its no skin off my back. You are the only one who seems to be bothered by the whole thing.

I can't believe that after that last huge post that anyone seriously believes that this was anything other than a prank. Even the first post was sprinkled with a bunch of hints (I did like the Cool-Ass-Gamer thing, telling the employee that he was a dealer and leaving one hidden $1.99 game).

Anyway, damn funny post if you ask me.

OK... bringing this back to tales that *actually* involve CC and the clearance that was (is), I haven't found a single CC employee that knows about the clearance. But I also didn't go around asking them all either - don't want to bring down the hammer on this kind of thing, right? The games ring up $1.99, the cashier says "wow, you got a good deal", you pay, and move on... In other words, I really don't think very many of them at all know about it - though it was done intentionally at some level at CC corporate (and not a "computer glitch"). People WAY back in this thread menioned some possibilities (e.g., the games were supposed to be sold or pulled and sent back to corporate up to the stores choice). Sounds like most stores just carried on and knew nothing about it though. I'm sure there's still a lot of deals to be found, though probably just 1 or 2 at a store (not 385 :)). I found just one today (Sat) and other people have as well - just don't expect much.

I asked a CC employee as well, and he had no idea about the sale. I got kind of scared when he started calling someone up on his cell when I was looking through the games, like the cat was out of the bag or something.

I came in about 1 or 2 more times that week and made friends with the guy, eventually asking him if he could take off the 'Value priced' sticker and scan the one on the game itself. No dice. The Princeton Pike CC in NJ seems to be all cleaned out except for PSX games.

Sweet, ToddlerTN totally revived this thread :) That was the most entertaining post I've read on CAG in quite some time.

(Not sure why Scorch got so pissed... it's not a lie, it's entertainment! Unless you consider things like science fiction books lies.)

For those of you still missing the point, my comment was a reply to CaptPete, and these two posts were meant to be taken together.

Just for the record, I really did not expect anyone to believe this story in the first place. After having been shut out of this particular CAG deal, I thought I'd just throw something satirical out there to amuse any fellow CAGers still checking this thread for a glimmer of hope. Why anyone would get bent by the whole thing seems kind of silly.

I deliberately put some obvious telltale signs of fiction in my original post, such as:

- Telling the CC I was a dealer (an obvious no-no that someone did mention)

- Saying it took the cashier 40 minutes to take 385 games out of the security boxes and scan them all (which would be 9.625 per minute, or one every six seconds...no one seemed to even notice that one)

- Referring to having only a single receipt from CC (which is not possible to do with 385 items...a few people caught on to that one)

- Saying I hadn't checked my list of purchased titles against the "official" list...yet somehow, managing to find EVERY single game for EVERY system that has been listed in this thread (I thought someone would put both lists in Excel, sort by name and realize this was the dead giveaway, but maybe it was too much work for anyone to do)

- Setting the story in one of the smallest CC stores in Nashville, which probably doesn't have 385 games in the entire store (and I believe Scorch picked up on that)

- Claiming I spent $829.36 on 385 games (this was an unintentional error, but I calculated the sales tax based on the 8.25% it used to be a couple of years ago instead of the current 9.25%...someone here figured that one out)

- All the other just plain stupid things...like asking people to lookup and post all the Gamestop trade values by morning for me, doing "one pretty cool thing" and hiding a copy of "Gravity Games Bike: Street. Vert. Dirt." (quite possibly the worst game of all time) "behind a row of games somewhere" in case "any fellow Nashville CAGers (Scorch!)" might want to "get in on this", etc.

At that point, I truly expected people to just have a laugh and move on. As soon as I posted it, I was watching the replies, as was a friend & coworker of mine who is also a CAGer. Neither of us thought anyone would believe it, but Scorch, you posted immediately and were apparently under the spell. I was actually composing a PM to let you know it was just a joke, but all of a sudden my friend was asked to put together an SMS package to modify an Outlook setting on our CIO's laptop. And that worried me, because I'm the one who configured the Outlook install for our 36,000 US employees. So I dropped everything thread-related to go figure out exactly what was happening with our CIO's Outlook settings and why.

By the time I got back to the thread, things had taken on a life of their own that I had never anticipated. So I just rolled with it. Some people were questioning the story, but no one seemed to be thinking it was just satire.

Chapter two of the story became far more elaborate and over-the-top, with Kenny's decisions becoming even more assinine. I won't even try to point out all the stupidly-impossible elements that appeared in "part deux" as there's probably at least one per sentence.

I have to give my wife credit for the whole "games tumbling everywhere/a few pizzas got ruined/lost my job" storyline. Just picturing the scene that would have taken place inside that station wagon really amused me. I also amused myself with:

- Someone expecting to make enough money off Gamestop on a single deal to retire for the next year

- The cool way I backed out of the store when I got fired, making me look "VERY cool" to my former coworkers

- The idea of a guy sitting in his station wagon opening 385 games, only to discover that they have virtually no trade value and now cannot be returned

- Everything having to do with my "lucky Walgreens cart" (like the Hastings guy seeing it loaded with games and asking, "What's the deal, Homeless Joe?", pushing it up the escalator at the mall, etc.)

- Getting all "Scarface" or "Karate Kid" or "Nine to Five" on people who did me wrong

- Coming up with different figures every time I tried to do the math of multiplying 385 by $10 without a calculator

- Wheeling the Walgreens Cart o'Games through the mall food court to snag a few free samples from the Asian restaurants

- Stopping by the pizza place to try and get my job back, and being told by the manager, "I'm calling the police again."

- The various Heat Wave™ references

- Going back to work in the field of "babysitting" if need be

- Hoping to turn my loss into a profit by playing the "Lucky 7's" lotto...so my wife will come back home

And then there was the very last line..."don't believe everything you read on Cheap-Ass Gamer." It took quite a while for anyone to point that out, and even then it was taken to be a confession of sorts, when it was really meant more as one huge final hint to anyone still deluding themselves that any of this might possibly be real.

Anyway, there you go...the full and complete story is revealed. I hope a few of you took some enjoyment from following two days in the tragic life of "Kenny" (and no, my name is not Kenny). Special credit goes to CaptPete for completely getting it all along and realizing I wasn't "lying" or trying to "get away" with anything...other than writing something satirical that would hopefully make people laugh a little and purge the depression that sometimes accompanies having expectantly followed a CAG "hot deals" thread for days that never quite pans out as originally anticipated.

Those of you who laughed, I appreciate it. Those who got mad, please forgive me. Those of you lucky folks who fall into both categories, I guess you get to pick either option.

And those of you who sent me PMs with offers and requests for games...don't worry, no one else will ever know.

-ToddlerTN

So is this sale fully on i.e. the games with value stickers are clearanced or is it still only for games that do not have the stickers?
scorch is the anti-fun, where ever people on cag seek enjoyment, he'll be there!
Oh piss off, lol.. it annoys me when people just read one post without reading the replies.

Toddler.. man, you put way too much time into that story..

- Setting the story in one of the smallest CC stores in Nashville, which probably doesn't have 385 games in the entire store (and I believe Scorch picked up on that)

Nope, I didn't. I haven't been to the Bellvue one, I only visit the Antioch one.

Neither of us thought anyone would believe it, but Scorch, you posted immediately and were apparently under the spell.

I'll admit it, you got me.. hook, line and sinker, I completely believed it.

like the Hastings guy seeing it loaded with games and asking, "What's the deal, Homeless Joe?"

lol.. the only reason I didn't red flag that.. is because there's actually a bum that hangs around outside that Hastings and goes in from time to time. He wears overalls and has a long beard.. so they probably would say something like that. Some employees there are like that..

*goes to sit in the corner*
:dunce:

The story was entertaining and all, but you killed the thread for those who are actually trying to get in on some $1.99 games. You should have just made a thread in Deal Discussion/Bragging Rights cause people were still adding a couple titles here and there. Now theres like 15 pages of discussion on the verification of your story.

Maybe a mod can move this thread over and start a new one with the most updated list and an explanation of the whole value sticker thing. The most recent list is on about page 40 or 41 of this thread. It should be helpful even though most people are done with trying on this.

Nobody's finding any new titles...heck, nobody's even finding any old titles anymore. Is it really that important to keep a thread alive and "clean" for the occasional "hey I found one copy of Aqua Aqua in Colorado Springs?"

I hardly think I killed the thread. It was dead when I revived it.

Got another GBA X2: Wolverine's Revenge, along with a PS1 Fear Effect 2. I also just barely noticed an entire extra wall of `value games' that I completely missed before. =( Of course, all of them were value stickered, but I can't believe that I'd never seen it! There could have been something there before. Bah.

I also got some screwy `Mood Music: Inpsired by the Las Vegas Lounge' or somesuch for $0.01. It's actually not nearly as bad as it sounds (although that's not hard)...but it does come in a very nice clear CD case. =)

This whole thing is really scraping the bottom of the barrel now. I got a couple good games out of it, but nothing really amazing. It certainly would have helped out if there had actually turned out to be something official going on though.

What we need is another huge 4.99 clearance. Can you believe that mega sale was all the way back in July 4th 2004? I wonder if CC will ever pull off another sale on that magnitude. The ones I frequently visit are clogged with old games that no one is ever going to buy at their current prices and shelf space is limited. What are you waiting for, CC?

I wouldn't buy 95% of the games left for $5. $2 sure but more than that ehh. I'd love to pick up the Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter and Buffy Chaos Bleeds for five but the other value stuff any of my stores have isn't even worth owning really. My local used places have a few games for 5 that would be a better use of the money.

It's a damned shame so many people are down on Toddler because he actually brought something entertaining to a pretty much dead thread. No need to take this stuff so seriously, jeez.

I don't mean they should mark the 'value games' down to 5 dollars. Rather, I meant they should clearance out the good games that no one is buying for 5 bucks... like last year.

Ah sorry I misunderstood. Do your CC stores have many games? Most of the 5 or so I've checked around here have tons of copies of the same games and they are either the big name games or crap. Only a handful of middle ground potential goodness games are around. If I ever go insane and want to buy tons of Hobbit and Smugglers Run I am more than set though. I'd like to see those few middleground titles go on sale and with CC I'm sure something will get messed up again by the end of summer. :D

Shoot...I just came back from CC and they had most of these games in 3 bins. All were marked over $10 and I think most had a "Value" UPC on it. If I only read this beforehand, I could have picked up a few games.

Actually I believe the deal started July 3rd ;) At least that's when crash first posted it...

Nah, you killed it. Just stop talking, you're a moron.

There are still some hidden gems out there. I found a dusty copy of Batman Rise of Sin Tzu with the lithograph hidden in a store- it had not been retagged so it showed up at $1.99 whereas all the other games for the most part had new UPC tags over the original ones. Spawn for XB was inside a clamshell case and had not been retagged and showed up at $1.99 but Defender for GC and Haunted Mansion XB had been retagged.

First guy who scanned prices for me had no reaction to the $1.99 prices. But he went on break and when I was ready to buy, another guy saw the $1.99 price and consulted with a girl at a register across from him and she said "I think I saw an email about this. You want me to call the mgr?" My guy was nervous so had her call him over. Mgr came by but since I only had one game he decided to just let it go (cool!) but as I left I saw a few CSR's searching thru the video games and checking the backs of several for UPC tags - Looks like its the end of the glitch.
