2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!

Wow that sucks, on a good note Wild sign Niklas Backstrom to 4 year Deal, now just need Gaborik to sign/Big Trade.
They're sick of him, they're sick of paying the price for his bullshit. Only one I ever saw stand up for him was Avery. They've got some real stand up guys on that team too.
I don't think that's true -- they gave him an 'A' recently (since all their actual on-ice leadership guys are injured), and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen if nobody liked him.
Yeah eye gouging. That one is right out of Slap Shot...Ridiculous. You're right about the Stars though. Turco was playing well and things were ok until B-Rad got hurt. His injury seems to be the one that put the nail in the coffin for their season. I was suprised they were doing so well without Brendon Morrow who is a hell of a player and team guy.
Yeah, they put a good run together, but then Brad Richards went out and the team imploded. I was surprised by that, too, because I didn't think Richards had that huge of an impact. Maybe it's just coincidence.

Anyway, Stars at Sharks tonight. This could be either a gritty, hard-fought, revitalizing win for the Stars, or a one-sided, demoralizing beat-down by the Sharks.

I'm fully expecting the latter.

They've been sleeping a lot so I wouldn't count on it...

Edit: Hay guys (SARS)... Can we play hockey? Do ya know how to play it? If I wanna see a gay fight I'll go over to WWE. Thanks

The bad. Hossa was taken off the ice on a stretcher after going head first into the boards. Looked really scary. Never want to see that stuff happen to anyone. He appears to be ok at the hospital. They took extra precaution since he just came back after missing two games with a sore neck.

The good. Chris Osgood shutout the Blues who are the 2nd best team in the league over the last 20 games. Scored 5 goals tonight and all but one were from players who don't score a ton. Jonathan Ericsson looks like he could step right into NHL now. This guy is going to be something. He's 6'5 has a rocket shot, sees the ice very well and can skate. He will be a full timer on the Wings D next season.

I don't think the Wings are going to do anything before the trade deadline. They are right up against the cap and have enough talent in the minors that can step up when needed. I just don't see them moving any one player to create trade room.

Trade deadline today... So far, the Bruins have picked up Steve Montador from Anaheim for Petteri Nokelainen, and Mark Recchi + a 2nd from Tampa for Matt Lashoff and Martins Karsums.

Wow, the Sharks looked flat. Except for the great execution on their one PP goal, they were having all kinds of trouble.

James Neal's second goal was pretty sweet.

As for the "gay fight" last night: Krys Barch hasn't had any really good fights lately. Most of them turn into hugging matches after a few seconds. In the one last night, he managed to get 2-3 good shots in before the other guy went down, but overall, it wasn't too memorable.

Oh, and I just looked up why the Sharks lost Pavelski last night: A game misconduct for HEAD-BUTTING? What the fuck?! That's almost as bad as eye-gouging. I want to see that one again, since I apparently didn't see it the first time.

Anyway, this better be the start of a big run for the Stars if they want to have any chance at the playoffs.

I'd be a little more worried about the Flames from now on.

Too bad there wasn't any actual "head-butting" ANYWHERE in the replay much less head touching...

FuI'll be rooting for you if it makes you feel any better...

You go Yukine!

Edit: Yeah... lets face it. Sharts are going to choke. They aren't going anywhere if they continue to play like they have.

Edit 2: Oh wow!! You go Young! Nice fucking comback win!

I missed the Coyotes/Bruins game unfortunately. :[

I checked the highlights, can't believe they beat them considering how many new players were added and this being their first game together.
Boston/ Chicago game tomorrow might be entertaining.
It was, in fact. Recchi scored a couple goals.

Hopefully San Jose doesn't pwn our asses tonight even with their depleted lineup, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised in the least.

Wings had another debacle tonight. All kinds of give a ways to a playoff hungry team is a very bad recipe. Especially when the opposition has Rick Nash. He probably wishes he could play every game against the Wings. No excuses the Wings were terrible and Columbus took full advantage.

Holy crap, Vancouver won. Even at the end when they were begging for SJ to take it from them, Luongo held his ground. Wutta guy.

Guess I can't feel too bad considering the score... At this point though, sharts aren't gonna get anywhere playoff time.

Edit: Nice win NY.

Oilers and Preds besides being very short place holders for the playoffs your only job is to keep the Mighty fucks and SARS OUT of a playoff spot anything else and you are completely worthless like Minnesota.

Montreal you better earn that damn playoff spot by beating the SARS tonight too. Oh, btw... don't put Price in. Thanks

Edit 2: Holy shite! 11 penalties? and Montreal still won 3-1 Price even. lol

Go Minnesota!

What bullshit losing to the Islanders, that should of been a goal by Lombardi. It would of went in even if the net didn't get knocked off (which it did because of an Islander)

So pro tip: Knock the net out when you see the puck going in, then it won't count as a goal!

Habs fired head coach Guy Charbonneau today and will be replaced by general manager Bob Gainey for the remainder of the season.

^I'd still say good job dOOd.

Geezus Christ... it's getting to be like pulling out teeth for a god damn win.

Ha ha! Boston and the SARS lost! Preds off the hook tonight, don't care but Wash needs to get back winning.

The Coyotes did play very well. Were very few penalties which I always like. Babcock might have killed someone if the Wings would have lost tonight.

That was a really great game last night between the Kings and the Sharks. The Kings looked amazing defensively, and Ersberg was brilliant in goal- easily the best he's performed in months (since his injury) and perhaps the best he's ever played.

While the end result was slightly disappointing, 1 point against the Sharks was more than I had expected.

1st period ended and they brought in the replacement team Sharts. Never saw the 3rd period as getting drunk seemed more important.

Rangers win! Lundqvist was REALLY shaky in the game. He allowed 2 goals on 4 shots in the third. Drury messed up. He redeemed himself in the shootout.

Well they have had some pretty entertaining matchups this season, I was expecting to see Sharks/Coyotes for the first round of the playoffs actually.

PHX lines for tonight:

Shane Doan - Kyle Turris - Peter Mueller
Scottie Upshall - Matthew Lombardi - Mikkel Boedker
Daniel Winnik - Martin Hanzal - Petr Prucha
Todd Fedoruk - Brandon Prust - Brian McGrattan

Now let's look at the scratches:

Scratches: Enver Lisin, Steve Reinprecht, Viktor Tikhonov, Nigel Dawes, Joakim Lindstrom

All 5 of those players deserve to play over those three. I understand that it is a 4th line, but Tiki is a great checking forward and Rhino is a great shutdown center. Add one of those three wingers to either wing and you have an offensive threat.

Also, the top three lines make totally no sense.

Wow, what a game against the Sharks. Too bad I'm probably the one here who watched it. Some nice fights, lots of intensity from both sides. Coyotes take a 3-0 lead in the first period, Sharks tie it up in the 3rd and Doan gets a goal with 27 seconds left for a 4-3 victory. Nice to see Kyle Turris get two goals, I was hoping he would get the hat trick.
