2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!
You, my friend, just made my day.
Yeah, I was pretty excited when I found out yesterday. I just got interested in hockey late last season, so I'm a newb. I plan to watch as many Kings games as possible, but HNIC will give me a chance to learn a lot more about the league as a whole.

Kings lose 3-1. They were dominated throughout.
Red Wings looked much better tonight. No more guys standing around, giving up easy interceptions, etc. Good win, although 2 of the goals were weak.
its ok, ill take em. Franzen got two tonight and the game winner. As long as he produces on the third line im happy. I obviously do not get the wings here in Jersey. can someone tell me why Hossa wasnt playing tonight? was he injured.

lol, you seriously didn't think they'd have a chance did ya? Not trying to start something.

You could tell by the start of the second it was only a matter of time til they got a goal and passed them.

Hossa did play. He had a few shots on goal.

I won't be watching the Kings game live since I'm watching TNA Bound For Glory right now. But I am taping it. Hopefully the Kings won't get dominated in shot totals like last night.

I'm going to be watching as many Kings games as possible this season. I want to learn all I can about hockey and the team. FSN West is airing 65 games. If I'm not home or I'm busy, I'll be taping the games. Monday games, I can't watch unless tey replay them the next day since I won't miss Raw or Heroes.

I don't have a DVR, so I'm stuck with a VCR for recording and due to having DirecTV, the TV itself is always on channel 3 so I can't watch one thing and record another. :(

I have a feeling that, by midseason, I will regret ever becoming a hockey/Kings fan. But hey, I suffered through 6 seasons of the Bulls being terrible- granted, I had seen 4 title wins (started watching in 1992-93) to placate me- but the Kings should be pretty good in half that time.

Since every Bay Area team sucks...i've decided to follow the Sharks.

Sharks are going to win the championship final thingy...

Even though the Kings didn't score a goal last night (had 2 disallowed) they played infinitely better than they did on Saturday. Losing Johnson really hurts, though.

Tb, Tb, Chi, Phi, NJ... ha, hate to break it to you but the only reason they're in first is because the rest of that division suck arse... All the teams they've played so far are easy pesy too. lol

Edit: Don't have an excuse for Pitt though, probably a fluke anyway...

Shocked to not see anyone has mentioned the passing of Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov today. He died of a heart attack during a game today in Russia.

A heart attack at 19 years old. That's far too soon, man. Far, far too soon.

RIP Alexei

Wings put em to sleep, Homler,Lidstrom, and Zetterberg scored a goal in each of the periods. And Conklin takes the win.

RIP Cherpanov. Thats a fluke passing like how Reggie Lewis died while playing a game for the Celtics.
Tragic.

Sad to hear about this young russian fellow passing away, especially when he was going to a team that appears to be breaking out and could really use a player like him to solidify the franchise for a few years.
Wow... 3 goals already. 2-1 Ducks lead, 8 minutes in.
It's great that you're getting into hockey, but try to follow the rest of the league as well ;)

Oh, I follow it. I read up on things and watch NHL On The Fly Final nightly. We just only get Kings and Ducks games here. I will be watching most Kings games. I'm going to try to catch Hockey Night in Canada, at least the early game, Saturdays on the NHL Network.

Nothing wrong with focusing on the team you like.

I'll read NHL.com and other sites every few days, but if you don't get the games on to watch it's kind of hard to really give a damn beyond division rivals and so forth.
Why do people use that fail of a site which is NHL.com? Is it so hard to use common sense like Yahoo NHL does...?
I use it to access Team Sites mostly, not for general editorials.

They revamped it recently, its much better. NHL Gamecenter is great.

And the Kings have their first win over the still winless Ducks, 6-3.

I didn't think they'd suck that badly, either, but I'm not complaining.
No thanks... Yahoo works for me.

In other news, This Sharks game is just getting silly. lool
Check out gamecenter. When you click on a game, the audio stream plays automatically and it shows photos from the game. If you subscribe for $20 a month, you can watch any game you want. Its not a quick site for scores like yahoo, but for streaming its excellent. Much better than last year's NHL.TV offering.

$20 is rather irritating for me since they DID show the games FOR FREE briefly before, probably a trial period since they were just getting the system running.

Anyway, I don't need to catch the game THAT badly.

It's our year baby......first year following this team and there doin' work.

They got some new coach....should do the trick.
Yeah that was slick.

Rumble in Chitown.
Toews almost had a nice one there. And Peter Mueller is a stud.
Honestly, it was kind of boring, but I got to get a look at some of the new guys on the Stars. I don't see why there was so much hubbub over this Fabian Brunnstrom.
Way to make me look like a jackass, Fabian. Thanks a lot for that.

Seriously, though, after seeing him in preseason play, I totally didn't see that one coming. I guess it helps when you're being set up by Brad Richards, but to Brunnstrom's credit, he knows how to put it away.
Holy shit. Did anyone else see that goal by Havlat in the 2nd period? Wow.
If Havlat can stay on the ice this season he and the two kids could light it up. I see the Bulin wall was in net tonight.

Hahahaha. I had to laugh at this, too, once I saw his 3 goals last night. Hope to get a rc in Upper Deck this winter.

God, I hate the new format of nhl.com.

No kidding. Good for him though. He knows he has to prove himself and goes out there and lights it up.

Oh and I agree on the Brad Richards thing. If Dallas can get B-Rad on the ice longer this season he will really shine there. Hell the guy can play in every situation and is used to playing a ton from his Lightning days.
