2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!

Wow, it's like the Red Wings have no interest in the game. You get two power plays late in the game and instead of shifting the momentum, you look like dog shit.

I guess they're just baiting the Penguins. They look all tired and shit, and then they'll end up winning the Cup at home on Thursday.

What a fucking awful game for the Wings. They looked old and worn out and didn't act like they were interested in winning until the third period.

I couldn't have wrote it better than this.

At the end of the 3rd period, the Pens were ripe for an upset. I'm going to get together some more cash and put it all down on Pens for Game 7. Even at home, I don't like the Wings. The Pens look desperate, which is extremely dangerous. With the exception of Osgood and Datsyuk, most of the Wings look disinterested and tight.

Not only this, but it seems like the whole city of Detroit isn't interested. The general feeling, imo, is that this is going through the motions. We get in the finals, we win the cup, blah blah blah. It seems like no one remembers 1995.

Agree'd.

I mean, if the Red Wings decide to turn it on, it's over for the Pens. The Wings are the best team in hockey, period. But if they don't have the drive and will, they won't win shit.

Best team in hockey? Arguably, the Wings are the most talented team. I believe part of being the best is willing to exert exceptional effort night-in and out. If the Pens win, then some will argue the 'best' team didn't win the Cup. That's an unfair assessment.

You are right. The Wings have the advantage, but they need to play hard or risk being 'upset.'

Evan has a prediction!!

Penguins come out, score two goals in the first period. Wings don't score until middle to late second, evening the score really late. About half way into the third, the Pens score a goofy goal, like it bounces off a defenseman or something. It's 3-2 until the Wing pull Osgood, when the Pens get an empty netter. Pens win 4-2.

I hope you are right.

You can't just give a prediction like that... WTF about the refs brilliantly reffing. Geez.

Edit: I dunno who's more of a crybaby... the Wings fans or Crosby.

I can't believe Talbot's performance in this series. I'm also glad Fleury is keeping his composure. It's nice to see players other than Crosby/Malkin bring in the big goals.

I live in Michigan and i been a Pens fan since 1995 >.> there's no one in Mid Michigan who even gives a shit about this game... no one has been talking about it or anything here either...

I'm sorry... I've seen Cherry a bunch of times and the guy is a tOOl. He gets caught in sounding like he knows everything and then the guy next to him corrects him, but he continues like it's not a problem. Then there's the outfits... lol

Edit: Celine Dion what... ?
Why? Malkin hasn't done squat.
He is leading the playoffs in points and beat Carolina four games to none by himself.

General Motors is all anybody is talking about here. And not with language safe for children.

The Wings really need to be ashamed of themselves. They were up 2-0. They were in the Peguins' heads. Osgood was having his best playoffs ever and on his way to a Conn Smythe and Hall of Fame consideration. All they needed to do was take 2 out of 5 games from a team that many considered inferior, a team that they had beaten in the finals the year before. That's all they had to do.

The Penguins were hungry. They wanted revenge for last year. Everyone knew that they were going to come out swinging, but the Wings were able to calm them down in the first two games. They could have had it. But no. They didn't play well at all in 4 of the games, and only turned it on when it was too futile to matter.

The Wings better wise up and cut some dead weight. Hossa has to go. Playoff performance is the only performance that matters in Detroit. Chelios better retire. Stuart is old and slow. A 20-something goaltender may not be the worst idea, either. No matter what, they need to be leaner, meaner, and faster if they want to win it all next year.

YYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Superbowl and Stanley cup Champions has never been done before....by any city.....Ever!!!!

Plus I hate the damn commishiner DON"T PUT YOUR GRUBBY ASS HANDS ON THE CUP!!!!!! WIPE THE DAMN NACHOS OFF YOUR FRICKING HANDS BEFORE MAN LOVING THE CUP!

What a great Game 7. That was easily the most excited I have been for any hockey game not involving the Kings or Ontario Reign. Sweaty palms, heart racing... I was loving it the whole way through. Detroit losing and Marian Hossa being beaten by his old team made it even better.

At least our hillbillies can spell inbred. They were booing because Pennsylvania fans boo everyone else regardless of sport. fucking Philly fans boo little kids that throw out opening pitches. Pot calling the kettle black.

I can't wait to watch the banner go up in October...

And after being there at the Igloo and watching the Wings celebrate with the Cup a year ago, and applauding them, I'm sickened by the classless, shit Detroit fans that booed. That level of classlessness is reserved for Philly fans...but it's alright. Lidstrom is going to retire, and Osgood will crumble without Nic to carry him next year, and those classless fucks will get what they deserve.

Uh, we hate Philly here in Pittsburgh a hell of a lot more, so it's not calling the kettle black. Pittsburgh does not equal Philly. Sour grapes much? And for the record, I was there last year, and there was nothing but applause for the Pens, the Wings, and the Cup.

The Wings played horribly. They really need to make some changes next year.

I see that some of the pens fans are already rubbing our noses in it. That's fucking disgraceful and pathetic.

I loved seeing Mario lift the cup again.... brought back some good memories from childhood.

More so rubbing it in the face of HOSSA. I just didn't like them booing

Oh bullshit. You call yourself Mr. Hockey. Do you mean field hockey? If you mean ice hockey, you should know fans tend to boo more when the defending Cup champs lose. Because the Cup leaves the city. They stopped booing and cheered anyway when the Cup came out, louder when Lemieux hoisted it.

EDIT: Yes, it was great to see Lemeiux lift the cup. These were my two favorite teams, Mario and Steve Yzerman my favorite players.
