2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!
What an idiot. He touched the trophy. Well congrats to the Wings.
to hell with superstitions. crosby said right after that he didnt touch the trophy last year and they lost, so why not touch it this year. bottom line is the pens are a better team this year than they were last year. pens in 6.

All other things being equal (which I don't think they are) just moving Hossa from the Penguins to the Wings makes it more lopsided than it was last year. As long as Lidstrom and Datsyuk are healthy, Detroit shouldn't have much to worry about.

The trophy touching thing is pretty funny. I'm kinda of superstitions when it comes to sports, but Sidney didn't touch it last year so he decided to mix it up.
Is Marty injured though? Was he 100% healthy in game 4? If he's fit I would play him. Anyway this game was pretty dull in the 3rd with the only highlights being Hawks getting pissed and leaving early every 5 minutes or so.
After the Kronwall hit his brain had to be like Jello. Then he comes back only to get crushed again by Stuart. It just didn't seem right. I'd rather see healthy Havlat next season instead of what happened to Pat Lafontaine, Scott Stevens , Eric Lindros, Paul Karaiya among others.

Lidstrom and Datsyuk are out again tonight. Not good. Obvisouly they've proved they can beat the Hawks without them as long as the effort level is there. Beating the Pens without them though I'm not so sure. Pens Fluery and the coaching have improved compared with last year.

I wouldn't be suprised to see the Wings come out with a lazy effort tonight. Schedule and injury wise it would probably benefit them to lose tonght and they know it.

I laughed when Chelios almost ended the game in overtime. That would have been the greatest slap in the face to all Chicago fans. Nice for Helm to get the series winner as he worked very hard tonight. Alright then... rematch.

HOSSA is going to cry again this year!

Malkin can't be stopped right now. He is playing tough! Red wings are beat up though. Lots of people with injuries.

This is going to be a fun one!

Should be a good series. If the Wings are healthy it will be a great series.

The goalies in tonight game were both fantastic. Darren Helm was very good once again and it was cool to see him get a standing ovation for his PK play. All of that hard work paid off and he got the series clincher in OT.

I cant wait my brother just called me and he scored us tickets to games 1 and 2 in Detroit, now I am glad NBC wanted those first two games back to back on the weekend.

Incredibly good hockey smarts to not just take a weak wrister to hand the puck back to the hawks. As sick as I am of Detroilet, I think a rematch is in the best interest of the league and how they're trying to promote the game. Now hopefully we won't have game 2 interupted for golf/horse racing/so you think you can dance/etc...

I fully expect Game 2 in Cleveland to be preempted by another meaningless Sunday afternoon Indians game even though it's scheduled for another channel.

JLA is pretty good with visiting fans so have fun.

I heard this is is the first time since 1955 the Finals will have back to back games to start a series. My question is when NBC says "Jump Bettman" does he just jump or does he ask how high?

Joe Louis Arena is fine when it comes to visiting fans cause we usually don't see too many. Unlike those Pens fans who got hostile at the Igloo when we won the cup. Some sore loser had some nasty words for my younger sister because she shed a few tears of joy after we won the cup.

A little garbage is to be expected. Dumbasses reside everywhere. At least Pittsburgh nor Detroit folks don't act like the fucktards at the Ponda center. An aquaintance of mine had to have security walk her to her car after each game there. Duckturds rocking the cars of Wings fans as they are trying to leave. People getting stuff thrown at them after goals. It was downright ridiculous.

Personally the worst fans in terms of behavior are Maple Leafs. When I lived in Buffalo I always hated having to deal with them. One game one of their goons purposely spilled a little bit of his beer on my mom from a higher level.
San Jose is pretty rough too but it had more to do with the game game being a big deal since the Wings and Sharks were top teams at the time. When I was at a Ducks game I didn't get any trouble at all (not a [playoff game though). Last but not least I hate the Staples Center for hockey. The layout of the seats just doesn't seem to work.

Being a Pens season ticket holder for 15+ years the visiting Maple Leaf fans were always the worst. And no place is worse when you are a visiting fan than Philly, thats the only place I been in my life that I thought I might not make it out of.

sharks games can be rough for visiting fans, especially when its a team like the wings or ducks. but its just verbal, ive never seen anyone get something thrown at them or anything like that. but you can expect to get bood all the way to your seats.

I posted some for the other Wings series so the Pens will not be left out. :D

Hahaha. Those are funny. I happened to be at the game last year when that Nickelback guy was there. He of course had some bimbo with him and I was annoyed when they were showing him off. Kid Rock may not be all that but at least he is a true Detroiter. And those pics of grumpy old men... would have been better last year. You'd have Cheli, Dom, and Drake. Lidstrom is 38 too I think. Oh no the old wave is soon going to be gone. Well the future yongsters are doing fine though so OK.
Chelios with the walker is pretty damn funny.
Yep. That one got a good laugh out of me, also. And isn't Nickleback Canadian?
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Detroit Red Wings, again. I would like the penguins cuz their my team, but the Wings are just too good
This was first posted back on September 30.:applause:

I doubt the Wings are going to be able to take games 1 and 2. I imagine they could get game 1, but game 2 is gonna be much harder.

But hey, if they do, you might as well call the series right there.

I've said all along since the Pens got the new coach and started playing a style that fits their personel they were much improved. Not having Datsyuk isn't helping the Wings either. Been a good game so far.

I just had Deja Vu of Deja Vu... (If that's possible) weren't we in this exact situation last year... ? And then I ask this same question last year... ? ugh.

Edit: Can we just end it now and give the Wings the cup... ?

Its always fun for a Wings fan to watch them turn on the afterburners and really open up the game. These kids have been playing so damn good. It might be hard to decide what to do when Datsyuk and Draper are back. I'd sit Leino and Maltby and let Draps center Helm and Abdelkader.

Wings played another solid game with Osgood again coming up huge when he needed to. The Wings are capabable of playing better and they'll need to back in Pittsburgh.

Yep.

One in Pittsburgh would be nice. I'd like them to come back home and win it in Detroit. They haven't done that since 1997.
I can't believe how much better an Actor Osgood is compared to Tom Cruise.
Just cause he embellished the fall when he was poked with a stick? That's typical goaltending. He played well and got help from the posts 3 times or so.

Either way, I figured this series would be over in six games.

Looks like Detroit is well on its way to debunking my prediction.

I picked the Lakers and Magic in six games and won some money, but I guess my luck has run dry.

LOL @ Malkin vs. Zetterberg.

From TSN:

"Malkin was given an instigator penalty for the incident, but the NHL has rescinded the penalty and he will not be suspended for Game 3.

"The intent of the rule is pretty obvious - was the action premeditated, was it sending a message," explained NHL on TSN's Bob McKenzie following the game. "Malkin was on the ice trying to score a goal at the end of the game. This one was born more out of frustration, then it was the Penguins trying to orchestrate some late game shenanigans, that is what the rule was put in place for and that is why the NHL reserves the right to rescind the rule if they feel the spirit of the rule is not being violated."

Poor Ozzie. 97% save percentage in the first two games, and ESPN refers to him as playing "good enough" for the Wings to win. Usually that kind of talk is saved for someone who wins a 6-5 game.

To play devils advocate Osgood was saved by the post in game 2 on a couple occasions. But yes 1 goal in both games is simply very good.

Friend of mine emailed me his impression of last nights game from watching NBC. The Nothing But Crosby network.

"Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Malkin Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Mario Owns the Pens Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby Lidstrom is good.
