2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!

That Kings game was frustrating to sit through, especially the 2nd period. I guess I can't be too surprised at the result, though, given who the opponent was.

Yeah your boys got a bit frusturated. The Kings are about 2 years away from being able to make a real playoff run. Johnson, Doughty, and Quincy could anchor the backend for quite a while. One of these days they're going to get themselves a true #1 goalie. Man its been a long time since you've had a true franchise keeper. Last one I remember would be Kelly Hrudey.

Went to my umpteenth Reign game tonight. Zatkoff, who was just sent down from Manchester of the AHL, apparently got injured as he was pulled with a 3-2 lead in the 3rd. The Reign lost 4-3 to the Utah Grizzlies in overtime.

Tomorrow, there is a game between the Ontario firemen and the New York firemen before the Reign vs. Grizzlies game. That should be fun. Doubleheader!

I'm posting some pics. I won't be posting pics of all the ECHL games I go to, but I figured I'd share these:

The Hartford mayor went to see Mr. Betman about bringing the NHL back to Hartford.
I really miss the Hartford Failures (Whalers) and the fact we have no professional teams in CT despite it being one of the highest per capita income states.

A bad week, results wise, for me personally continues as the Kings lose a very exciting shootout decision to Dallas, 3-2. The Kings lost 5-0 last Saturday vs. New Jersey, Monday when I went to see them play Tampa bay, 4-0 against Detroit on Thursday, and now this. The Reign lost last night 4-3 in OT, though they did win on the road in Phoenix on Wednesday.

But the FDNY vs. Ontario Fire Department game today should be fun, and hopefully the reign can split their back to back with Utah.

Wings gave up two breakaway goals in an intense 6-5 loss to the Sharks. Johan Franzen has some sort of injury and missed the entire 3rd period. Was a crazy hard hitting game. RAMSTORIA saw a hell of a game live.

^That game was pretty epic in itself I gotta say!
What a game! Coyotes win 4-3 against Calgary.
Yeah, really! I was hoping Phnx would win!

I gotta say the one Marleau scored was just a bit offsides. xD

I can just see the headlines tomorrow about it. oy...

Oh man, that hit Murray did on 82 (I think).
RAMSTORIA saw a hell of a game live.
Yeah he did... so did my sis and dad. I'm jealous.

Wow, Washington won. Oh and... LA and Minnesota you guys suck. Thanks for not doing your jobs.

It always a good thing when Calgary loses

I'm watching the Sharks game now, keeping an eye on Claude Lemieux. He doesn't seem to be playing very much.

Bruins/Sharks will be an interesting game but I don't think the Bruins will have enough guys return from injury by then.

He's starting on the 4th line and they only expect to give him about 10-15 playing time.

Edit: Geeuz Christ... It's like I was watching a fucking Peewee game for 59 min. rather than a Sharks game and then they won in overtime. Don't ask me how.

Red Wings started the All Star Break early. Not to take away from a good performance of Phoenix as they played well and deserved the win, but the Wings gave a half ass effort tonight. Brad Stuart took a header into the boards and missed most of the game. Pavel Datsyuk didn't play in the 3rd period due to some mystery injury.

I'll take the win either way, but to me it looked like Red Wings were putting in a good amount of effort. But I don't watch the Wings all the time so I guess I wouldn't know. Here is the highlights video for anyone interested:

I'm happy the Coyotes have been holding their own against good teams. Coyotes have won or played very well against some of the best teams in the league this season.

Wings players will miss the All Star weekend.

Red Wings' Datsyuk, Lidstrom to miss All-Star Game
by Ansar Khan
Wednesday January 21, 2009, 3:16 PM

The Red Wings will not have any players at Sunday's All-Star Game in Montreal. The NHL announced today that Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom have withdrawn due to injuries. They have been replaced by San Jose forward Patrick Marleau and Dallas defenseman Stephane Robidas.

Datsyuk has a strained hip flexor, which occurred during the third period of Tuesday's 6-3 loss in Phoenix. Lidstrom, who scored two goals, finished the game, but has been bothered by recurring elbow pain and needs the rest, the club said.

The only Wings' representative at the game will be coach Mike Babcock, who will serve as an assistant coach to San Jose's Todd McLellan.

Its on March 5th. I can get discounted tickets but I'm not sure if I can make it yet, I'm trying though. I do want to see Mueller and Turris.

Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk may face suspension for missing All-Star Game
by Ansar Khan
Friday January 23, 2009, 3:13 PM

The Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk are facing the threat of one-game suspensions if they don't change their plans for the All-Star weekend and at least show up in Montreal to attend the various functions surrounding the event.

The pair withdrew from the game earlier this week because of injuries (Lidstrom has tendinitis in his elbow, Datsyuk has a strained hip flexor). But the league maintains that if they're healthy enough to play in the regular season game before and after the All-Star Game, they shouldn't miss the All-Star Game.

Lidstrom and Datsyuk could be suspended for Tuesday's game in Columbus.

Wings general manager Ken Holland is upset with the league's stance and said he has no intention of calling the players and telling them to show up in Montreal.

Oh I thought it was a lot sooner, yeah both are going to be really great players in the years to come, especially Mueller. Bodker is worth looking out for as well, dude has some speed!
Um... WTF?
Datsyuk missed almost the entire 3rd period the other night after a hip flexor injury during the loss to Phoenix and Lidstrom has been missing some practice time with a sore elbow.

I don't get why it's such a big deal...

1. It's an allstar game?! doesn't me squat.
2. They're hurt so they aren't gonna perform well.
3. :shrugs: I frankly don't care as much as I wanna know why the fuck there are SARS in the Allstars?? That should be a bigger concern.
4. The Allstars is a joke thanks to American Idol voting.

Funny you can do a whole lot and not get suspended, but miss the All Star game and your gone for one game. Don't worry Steve Ott and others. Its still ok to give unprovoked cheap shots to opposing players and don't worry about getting your ass beat either. The instigator rule will protect you. Gary Buttman is a complete retard. Lidstrom has missed less than 30 games in his 16+ year career.

MONTREAL -- The NHL will force erstwhile All-Stars Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom to miss the Detroit Red Wings' first game after the All-Star break for failing to attend this weekend's festivities.
Lidstrom, Datsyuk The pair will miss the Red Wings regular-season game against the Columbus Blue Jackets under a policy established last year, Colin Campbell, the NHL's senior executive vice president of hockey operations, said Friday.

 No Steve "The Pirate" Ott won't be at the All Star game unless he buys a ticket.

If anyone knows a good quality stream, PM me. I don't get Versus, and these Justin.tv streams kinda suck. I want to watch the Skills Competition / All Star Game damn it.

Versus is horrible, they kept showing replays or something random and then you would end up missing a goal.

Pretty entertaining though, for the most part. I didn't realize Boedker was going to be in the YoungStars game. Him and Wheeler of the Bruins made some nice plays. Price better step it up tomorrow, he is the starting goalie for the East.

Awesome to see Doaner win the Elimination Shoot Out as well.

Good fucking lord, who the fuck is working the damn cameras. Geezus fucking Christ!

I particularly enjoyed Marc Savard screaming "fuck" when the puck jumped on his second shot during the elimination shootout. :shame:

Actually, I thought he was very entertaining and I was glad he advanced to the very end (even if Tim Thomas did gift him that last goal).

And yes, Versus sucks balls at covering hockey. They should stick to bull riding and... I don't know, fishing?
