2009/2010 NFL Thread - Combine Time - Draft 4/22 -

Brady needs time to get back into form, maybe an entire season. At least until week 10. They really struggled when Matt Light got hurt though, Vollmer was overmatched. Shawn Springs straight up sucks... I don't see them going anywhere with the holes in that defense though Mayo and Meriweather get better each week.

I don't play linebacker for them though.

Why would the Patriots need any individual referees on their team? The Patriots' success if just a leaguewide conspiracy, after all.
I agree. As long as the Pats have cameramen, they don't need referees.
They didn't have their top reciever and most explosive running back. If not for a couple of fumbles the Chiefs wouldn't have even been in the game. I would rather be winning ugly now in close games than winning big. Winning games like this is good for a team that doesn't know how to win games like this and chokes down the stretch.

Also I don't see how who they played should diminish the fact that a backup reciever stepped up big time and got 250 recieving yards. Playing like that shows heart and a grittiness that not many of the offensive players seem to have. He made sure that the Cowboys were in contention and won the game by breaking tackles and playing like a big reciever. All season long this team has been looking for someone who can stretch the field and make plays that lengthen the defense. By playing like this today it looks like the Cowboys found this person. Ending the dink and dunk offense that they have been running can only strengthen a team like this and it finally gives Romo a player who plays the way he likes to play. Witten may be the safety valve and the heavily relied upon target, but Romo loves to go deep and stretch the field.
I agree that a win is a win in the NFL but you have to be a little worried about going to OT against a winless team that the two other teams in your division absolutely destroyed. I don't know what is wrong with the Cowboys - on paper they sure look good. They've got an above average QB, a great TE, a solid trio of RBs (when healthy) and some pretty good players on defense too. They should be playing better than this which makes me think the coaches aren't getting it done. Switching to Garrett won't make a difference this season but I am not looking forward to 2010 when either Cowher or Shanahan is running things in Dallas (and the other is in Washington).

This season is one where the capability of teams can't be judged solely "on paper" its certainly made for some entertaining games this year that's for sure.
Every time I look at Wade Phillips, he never looks like a coach.
How do you think I feel? Down by 7 and the Jets D have done NOTHING for me.

Sigh. This is not my year for fantasy sports.

i squeaked out a win this week. i had the jets d and the guy i was playing had keller for his te. i had a 2 point lead. the jets got -1 points, keller put up a goose egg.

braylon edwards looked amazing tonight, where the hell has this guy been for the last 2 years.

im always impressed watching miamis wildcat. i hear people bash the wild cat all the time, which is understandable because it is the hot thing in the nfl. but miami is the only team that can pull it off. not only can they pull it off a few time a game, they can pull it off pretty much anytime they want.

I had the Miami D going for me as well. Every time Thomas Jones scored the Miami D score would go down. I ended up winning by 1.5 points. I had two of my starters on byes this week (Jennings and the SD Defense) and the two players I picked up (Mike Sims-Walker and the Miami D) both got ZERO points for me. That's like almost impossible to do. I have the absolute worst luck with fantasy sports.

God damn Ricky Williams beat me by two points.

I think he just shows up on Monday nights.

One of the guys in my league lucked out so bad on last night's game. He was up by 6 pts late in the Monday Night game and his opponent had Braylon Edwards. Had the one touchdown not been overturned or had he made the catch on the pass interference call he would've gotten beat.

I lucked out big time too. I won my week by 1.5 points so I needed that Thomas Jones TD or else I would have lost. I still think it was a touchdown though - his leg was down and the ball wasn't across the goal line but in the NFL you have to be touched after getting possession which I don't think he was until he slid into the end zone.

That's what I thought. I figured the replay was iffy at best and I thought you had to have conclusive evidence to overturn a call. Oh well at least my team has rebounded nicely. I've won 3 straight after an 0-2 start. Roddy White finally came alive for me. Now if I could just get Slaton and Westbrook on track. I keep benching Benson thinking he's a fluke but every week he seems to score and prove me wrong.

How absolutely stupid does Calvin Pace look right now? After (yes, after) the game, he was still badmouthing Henne and the Wildcat. You gotta be kidding me.

ill take the giants. they still got the D and Eli is hot this year.

read a lot about TO trade rumors, particularly the bears. im tempted to make a play for him in my fantasy league. it makes sense for the bills to try and move him, hes been a bust, might as well get a draft pick out of him.

God I hope you are right. It depends on their ability to pressure Brees and how well their banged up secondary plays. Eli has been fantastic this year so I'm thinking they can put up 24-27 points at least.

even with the banged up d theyre still one of the best in the leagues. not only that, eli magic and the g-men can put up points, they can hang with the saints if it comes down to a shoot out. that would have been something people laughed at when if you said it 3 years ago, but hey, eli looks good.

I wish the Giants had Boley for this game, but even with the injuries, I'm still confident they can beat the Saints. The Jets showed that their offense is human.

to be fair, the saints showed they dont need a super human offense to win. their defense can step up to. one of the reasons this saints team is looking a lot better than the last 2 years.

I'd say the jury is still out on that. That defense will remain suspect until they shut down a quality offense. They've stepped up against some green signal-callers.

True but Sanchez literally handed the Saints that game. I think it was 24-10 and the Saints defense was responsible for 14 points - the Giants shouldn't hand the Saints anything (as long as Hixon is returning punts instead of Moss).

Indeed. It will be good to get Moss out of that role. He looked really tentative back there, and you know damn well teams would be bouncing kicks in front of him all game after way he handled them last week.
Ray Lewis was fined $25K for his hit on Chad Johnson this past Sunday.
That was a nasty hit. I was a bit surprised when Chad just hopped up and got in his face, not a hint of pain.
I saw that yesterday and as a Bears fan I'm not really sure what to think. Did was overpay giving up a second round pick for someone's first round bust? I guess we'll soon find out.
My guess is that Marinelli will work some of his D-Line magic on him to get him in gear. It's also an interesting choice because Ogunleye is 32 and in a contract year. He may be resigned to a short term contract, while Adams grows for the spot. Or Angelo and company are already naming the future for the position. Another interesting possibility is if there might be an attempt to try him at DT.

Vikings "First Real Test":
San Fransisco
Green Bay
Baltimore
Pittsburgh?

Well I guess we know for sure they won't get a win the week after Pittsburgh...
You clearly missed the public beheading in the Tampa Bay/Carolina game.
If you can't beat them, Kill them. The Bucs motto for 2009. First overall pick, here we come.

But it did propel the Panthers to victory, though. Based on the first half, the Bucs should've won the game. But that hit allowed the Panthers to come out strong in the second half.

Oh, and Zorn's head is under the guillotine right now.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT, RAY RICE!

It's nice to see Cincinatti play like the crappy team they really are.

Joshua Cribbs is the first player since 1950 to return a kick for a TD and throw an interception in the same game. /theonlyoffenseClevelandhas
