Speaking of the Vikings, they played incredibly well vs. the Steelers. Not happy with the outcome, but very happy with how we played.
Can't wait for the showdown in Lambeau!
I missed part of that game as I was watching the pats game (I own brady in a league), and one penalty I missed was apparently the Vikings got called for defensive delay of game. I never even heard of such a thing. WTF happened there?

Nothing. I'm pretty sure the refs were on crack.
He looked a lot better than Hill.

They put him in the spread (which he played in college) and he was loose and had nothing to lose.

Always have liked Smith but shit won't fly next week vs the Colts.

3-4 here we come.
Today he did look a lot better than Hill I cannot argue that. He did look good in the spread but the Niners right now are not built for that kind of offense, especially with Jimmy Raye as the offensive coordinator. When it counted most today, Smith could not drive us down to get a game tying FG and Hill has moved the team down the field in key situations this year on a couple occasion. I am not arguing in any way that Hill is the answer but I just hope they really think hard about giving Smith another chance to start. Hill has proved he can win games, Smith has proved he can lose them. Look at their starting records and turnover stats.

One game can't change how he played for the first 3 years of his career. I am guessing Smith will get the start next week and I will guarantee he will show us once again why he was a bust and a back up at best in the NFL. I hope he proves me wrong but highly highly doubt it.

Why aren't we built for that spread offense, well not spread but 3 WR sets? Because they have been telling us since day one that we will be a running team? For a running team we sure couldn't run for shit today. All those times Hill drove us down the field at the end of the game is when Raye opened up the passing game.

This is going to be an interesting week to see in which direction the team goes but against the Colts next week neither will have an impressive day.

That first sentence totally ignores what he did in the second half. We were down 21-0 with the offense doing more or less nothing but 3 and outs the entire first half. That second half should've been nothing but garbage time for the Texans with way the game was going. Your second sentence is ridiculous. We're playing the Colts. That's a lost no matter who is playing QB. Also, Freeney and Mathis. Hill's body would like to thank Smith right now.

Smith's performance may have been a fluke but you've got to admit, it can't get any worse with him on the helm.

I don't see why we couldn't add a little spread. Morgan, crabtree (who looked great for a first game mid season), Bruce and Davis. I fully expect smith to start next week. we may start the game running the ball, but against the colts there's a good chance well need to throw to catch up.
I'm pretty sure the Vikings play the Packers and Lions twice before they play the Bears once.

Yeah Vikings don't face the Bears until the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

The only bright spot for the Bears is if they can remain close, 4 of their last 6 games are against the NFC North. That was the most embarrassed I'd been as a Bears fan since that playoff game in the mid-90's against the 49ers that the Bears lost by 40 points.

Don't forget the tripping call, the missed face mask against Favre, and Sidney Rice's excellent catch that had to be challenged in order to be properly called in bounds.

I'm not going as far as saying they lost the game because of the officials but they certainly would have had a better shot if the refs hadn't had their heads in their collective asses. The Vikings certainly could have certainly won in spite of the refs because let's face it the refs didn't force Favre to throw an interception on a crucial play but that was certainly a horribly officiated game.

The Niners do not have the WR's to run the spread. Morgan has played ok but hasyet to prove himself as reliable. Bruce is old and has looked old this year. He has dropped passes that I have never seen him drop before and forget any YAC with him. Davis and Crabtree will fit into the spread well. I just do not think that is the direction Singletary wants to go in.

I personally was hoping Smith was done with the Niners and was disappointed he was signed back by them. He has done nothing to help this team and has not grown one bit. I have watched every snap he has taken in the NFL and it boggles my mind why anyone would want him in there. The bottom line is, since Hill has been starting the Niners have actually won some games.

Funny how theres no talk of "running up the score" when Peyton Manning is the one throwing 40 yard bombs late in the 4th quarter of a blowout.

Just goes to show that there really isn't such a thing as running it up in the NFL.

Well Alex Smith was officially name the starter for Sunday. Can't wait to see how this goes...

I keep rooting for the Panthers to lose so the Niners get a high pick to draft a QB.

That jerk Peyton Manning has no respect for the game, or other teams.
I'm now ready to acknowledge that the Bengals are actually good.

As for my Pats, they're definitely taking off against some bad teams, but these last two have been pretty boring. I'm kind of missing the close games now, not that I wouldn't take an easy win over a close loss 100 times out of 100, obviously.
The Colts, Saints, and likely the Dolphins games should be better tests of where the Patriots are as a team. Fortunately the final four games of the schedule appear to be easier on paper.

Also, while it's disappointing, I think it's kind of telling how little Adalius Thomas and Springs played last game. Belichick tends to prefer sitting young guys, especially rookies, so he must be pretty unhappy with those two.

Campbell needs to just stand in the pocket for 2 extra seconds the next time he passes to realize that his guys are blocking for him.

I'd say the Redskins, but they have a better Quarterback somehow. But the Raiders have a better offensive line. But I guess we'll find out in 7 weeks (or so) when they play each other in Oakland. Tonight, the blame goes solely on the players. Not the coaches. Why? Turnovers. Just sloppy football all around. The play-calling was actually pretty good.

However, Jason Campbell refused to look at the left side of the field almost the entire game. Why? Well, Samuels is done for the season, so he probably thinks if he looks there an Eagles player will be there to greet him. He has what I call "Delhomme's Disease", or the inability to actively look for different receivers on your team and instead look for receivers on the opposing team who are currently on the field of play.

Trust me when I say it makes sense.

I know you don't like Smith.....I don't think any 49ers fan does really.

Sound like a broken record but what Smith came into 2005 compared to 2009 is miraculously different.

He has Gore, Vernon, Crabtree, Morgan, Staley, and a coach who won't throw him under the bus.

Compared to Brian Gilmore, Johny Morton, Eric Johnson, Barlow, Mike Nolan.

Shaun Hill won't lose you the game, but he won't win it either. Situations like HOU and ATL proved if were down by 10 points or more were fucked.

Got nothin' to lose anyways might as well do it.

I do not want him to fail or anything, I just can't see him playing well consistently. But I agree, they really do not have anything to lose and I just hope after this season we have another choice at QB than going with Hill or Smith. If the Niners had a QB I can see this team being a contender. Without one, they just look like an average team that will benefit from playing in the crappy NFC West.

All depends on where the Panthers pick falls (somewhere between 4-9 if I had to guess).....that gives us a shot at Locker/McCoy/Berry/Mays.

Big what if here, but if Smith finishes off the season playing great.....that really helps this team.

Might be nothing, but during the bye week Hill went off for vacation, while Smith stayed back working with Crabtree.

Go Niners.

It's interesting how the 49ers defense seems to cramp up as soon as the Colts go into the hurry-up.

I guess as long as it's not under 2:00 then it's a good gameplan.

If Carolina wins this game and plays the way that they are right now, I could see them becoming a beast in the rest of the season. Exercising the demons of last season may be all this team needed.

I don't even know why I watch the Browns any more. They looked good for all of a drive and a half.

I wonder if Carolina just returned the curse to Arizona. Warner has had 6 turnovers and 5 INTs. Pretty much the same kind of day that Delhomme had in the playoffs last time around.

I had to leave after the 3rd quarter to go to a hockey game, so I just now finished watching Packers/Vikings. The 3rd quarter turned out to be just about the only good thing in the entire game.

Go Niners.
Smith played ok yesterday. To me he still has no pocket presence and just cannot read a defense. If it wasn't for Gores big run the Niners would have been held to 7 points. The team still went 3 and out numerous times and it seems its a win to even get a first down. I would like Singletary to just leave Smith in there the rest of the year (even though personally I think we have seen enough of him) just to see if we are totally finished with him and can move on and admit they made a mistake with the number 1 pick that year. The defense did look real good though and kept them in the game.
San Francisco has a really good team this year, but they've got a monster of a schedule. And it doesn't get much easier from here on out.
Really?

They play the Titans next. Then the Bears who are average. The rest of the season they play against Green Bay, Jacksonville, Seattle, Arizona, Philly, Detroit, and St. Louis.

I would say that is a pretty easy schedule. The only games on there that are tough are Green Bay and Philly. The combined record of the remaining teams are 25-37.

On that pick 6, wasn't the receiver past 5 yards and get cut off on his route?

I was expecting a flag with the way refs have been calling that out this season...

3rd down has been killing us all year. way way too many 3 and outs and punts.

fuck you Falcons and fuck you Texans! I got beat in my fantasy league thanks to Owen Daniels getting hurt and Slaton getting frickin benched! I still had a shot at winning Monday night if only Roddy White could've hung onto that pass in the back of the endzone!

im a little surprised nobody has claimed chris chambers off waivers yet. especially someone like chicago. i could also see him going somewhere like tennessee, jacksonville, or kansas city.

I'm curious as to why they fired the GM. He wasn't on the job very long.
He was claimed by KC

weird, i check espn regularly enough but somehow missed that.

i have a random question, any AZ CAGs have a hook up for vikings/cardinals tickets? my gf wants to get some for her mom (huge favre fan) but i keep i told her shes not allowed to buy tickets from craigslist with paypal out of state, and places like stubhub have a big premium.

Man do I wish I could go back and redo my fantasy draft. I picked both Westbrook and Slaton. Every week it's a mess trying to figure out if either is going to play. The only thing that is saving me is that I have 3 quality WRs and that I grabbed Benson late.

Yech. CBS finally caught the right camera angle showing Chris Henry's arm flopping back and forth about 2 inches above the wrist. Broken for sure.

^
so much pain. The Bears defense looks like they couldn't stop Northern Illinois. Cards are just running for 14-25 yards and passing for the same amount w/ little pressure on the qb.

Its gonna be a long second half. T_T
The Bears are horrible.
I'm sure Alex Smith and Frank Gore can't wait for the Thursday night game! If our D is going to play like this it's going to be a long second half of the season. Great for fantasy points though...

49ers offense is horrible, so I doubt it.

The Bears just look straight up lost out there.

I'm still haunted by the replay of a USC player on the ground and his foot dangling in the air after he broke his ankle.

CBS cut into the Texans Indy game for like 2 seconds to see Houston miss the tying FG then cut right back to the Chiefs. For a crappy game KC made it somewhat interesting in the last couple minutes.

The only good thing about the Bears game was that all 3 TD's went to Olsen. I had to start him this week because I lost Daniels last week.

Are you telling me the former Kansas State Wildcats QB Freeman may lead the creamcicles to a win over the cheese heads? The afternoon might not be a total loss then:D...
Joey Porter talked a lot of shit this week... 0 tackles, 0 assisted, 0 sacks, 0 passes defended.
