2009/2010 NFL Thread - Combine Time - Draft 4/22 -

Wow, this is what playoffs are about, way to show the other losing teams how it's done. Even though I am a Cardinal's fan, the Packers played a pretty good game.
Tuck rule? Are they not even going to look at that?
I thought they had gotten rid of the tuck rule?

In any case, he wasn't going to tuck it, was holding it up after the pump and looking to throw to the other side.

Um the ball never hit the ground so the tuck rule makes no sense, its a fumble no matter how you slice it. A great game btw, thank God because the other games were trash.

Yeah saw that after the replays and I didn't realize it didn't hit the ground. fucking sucks either way.

And to think that missed connection to Jennings could have won it for them....

Man this game was equally exciting and stressful to watch. Amazing because the offensive show was incredible, but stressful because there was ZERO defense.

There was some facemask on that last play but the ball comes loose before that and maybe there wasn't enough twisting of the facemask for the refs to feel the need to call it. Or the refs just blew it like they did on many of the other plays.

Was waiting for someone to acknowledge that. Guy held the QB's facemask and brought him to the ground.

Must be tough being a Packers fan in the past decade.

1. Owens catching the ball and holding onto it at Candlestick when 2 Packers drill him hard to end the game.

2. Favre throwing 6 int's against the Rams in January of 2002.

3. Michael Vick and the Falcons winning in Green Bay.

4. 4th and 26. The Eagles convert on 4th and 26th to tie the game right after in the 4th quarter. Win it in OT against the Packers.

5. Bret Favre throwing an int in OT against the Giants in the 2008 NFC Championship game. Tynes finally kicks a FG to win the game after 1000 tries.

6. Aaron Rodgers punting the ball to the Cardinals who return it for the GW TD in OT.
The 2008 Patriots with Matt Cassel would easily beat the Pats that played today. Easily.
Did the Patriots play today? I mean I know they had a game scheduled...

I think Faulk showed up. That was about it for the Pats today.

I saw this too and it wasn't incidental, the defender had his hand in the grill all the way to the ground (and maybe a little after). Could have been stuck and I doubt it was on purpose but that was a pretty big thing to miss and definitely game changing.

Oh well, if the Cards can keep lighting up the board like they did last night, they'll roll to Miami. All of the NFC teams have shown that they can be spotty over the last weeks of the season.

Agreed, the TV coverage of it pretty clearly showed it on replay. I mean I thought I had seen Rodgers head kind of twist funny as he was going down as the play was happening, how could they possibly miss it?

The booth obviously reviewed the play but they can't call penalties so the miss falls completely on the field judges.

The facemask occurred almost instantly after the fumble which is where the ref's attention was probably drawn to. I watched it in slow motion about 10 times and it was definitely a facemask (and I am of course the authority on the subject) - especially considering that roughing the QB call from earlier in the game which was insane. Great game even without the defense showing up for either team. When it was like 31-24 or whatever I was thinking someone is going to have to score 50 to win this thing.

The Ref is behind the QB, so he couldn't have seen the facemask either.

Also, as the pointed out on Sportscenter this morning, there was a face mask on Warner on his 2nd TD pass to Fitzgerald that wasn't called either, so it kind of evened out.

a 15 yard penatly tacked on to a kick off is not even with a penalty that would have prevented a team from winning.

I read that the proper protocol is for the ref to focus first on possession of the ball so if it was (blatantly) missed, it wasn't because the ref was staring at cheerleaders. If there was a missed call on Warner then it doesn't do any good to cry foul about inconsistency.

Neither are my home team and I like both Warner and Rodgers as QBs. Truth be told, the only team I don't like in the playoffs are the Cowboys and I'm indifferent on the Ravens now that Modell isn't the owner anymore. Next week is gonna be some damn good football all around.

Yeah, in any case you can't blow the whistile on an incidental face mask that happened AFTER the ball was away.

IMO, if they are going to call those kind of penalties, they should change rules on such plays where something like a face mask that didn't impact the play (fumbled happened before the face mask, pass was away and intercepted before the face mask etc.) gets tacked on after the change of possession and move the other team back 15 yards from the spot of recovery/runback.

In this case, such a rule change would would have been moot as it would have been an enforced on the kick off type of penalty since the runback resulted in a touch down.

Best week of the year, IMO. 4 really great matchups spread out over 2 glorious days. I can't wait even though my team is nowhere to be found. There isn't a better weekend of football during the year even though opening day comes close because of the excitement and this past weekend is set up the same way but with arguably worse games. I already miss Monday Night and Thursday Night football.

opening day is the April 5th right? That means we will probably open up against Josh Johnson and Marlins. gotta get my tix soon for it.

Minny and Dallas should be match of week. The Cowboys are the hottest team right but now they are facing a huge test in the Vikes. hope its as good as the Cards/Pack game.

yeah, plus I'm not looking forward to baseball season AT ALL. 76-80 wins MAX for the Mets, unfortunately (and I'm being generous). Here's an idea... let's see if we can overpay for some more unwanted Red Sox players since that track record has been so good over the years - Pedro, Viola, Cliff Floyd, John Valentin, Doug Mientkiewicz, Jose Offerman, Trot Nixon, etc. I think we are STILL paying Mo Vaughn $20M/year to eat cheeseburgers. Granted, Bobby Ojeda worked out OK but still, Jason Bay is going to be horrible. God dammit.

I was watching the replay of the Cardinals win again and it seems like the ball gets smacked into his helmet, his head gets turned, then the defender actually pulls it back into the correct position as hes bringing Rodgers down.

I'm a huge Packers fan, and I was pissed at what I saw during that game. The defense was simply atrocious. When I saw that facemask against Rodgers at the end I just shut the TV off and went to bed.. I was pissed right off.
fucking cowboys. Now I got to root for Favre, the lesser of two evils, next week.
Yup. But this is WAY better than the Eagles making it to this round. I can't believe I have to root for the Cowboys and then Vikings two weeks in a row. The only team I hate more than the Cowboys is the Eagles and the only teams I hate more than the Vikings are the Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins. What a horrible NFC field.

Bitch Favre is never the lesser of any evil.

You have to feel for Aaron Rodgers and the way that game ended.

To score a TD on every drive in the second half (correct me if I'm wrong, besides the final kneel down) and lose it on a fumble in OT. Having to hear everyone in school complain about how it was Rodgers fault, even though he played flawless in the second half.

Although the season ended tough for the Packers, when they are able to get their defense healthy and get Al Harris back, they will be my pick to make the superbowl next year. Aaron Rodgers is easily a top 5 QB in the league.

I guess the truth is I actually hate anyone who refers to Dallas as Americas team more than the team itself... but they are definitely guilty by association. I hate the Steelers and I hate the Cowboys and everyone else is alright. They wouldn't be so bad except for I can't stand their fans. (No offense fellow CAGs who root for these teams) ;)

Colts over Ravens.
Chargers over Jets.
Cowboys over Vikings.
Saints over Cardinals. Good lord imagine if the Cardinals had their other pro bowl receiver in that Packers game.

Praying that my last one is wrong.
Since the Patriots dynasty is over and probably entering a rebuilding phase, who is your pick for this decade? Mine is the Cowboys.
as long as they have tom brady and randy moss they can contend. a few free agent signings and good draft to improve their defense and they are right back in it.

this.

im not too big on any of the teams left in the play offs, so i think ill be rooting for san diego. a team i neither like nor dislike. i have a lot of friends that live in SD, so at least i can root with them. itd be nice for LT to get a ring before he retires in a few years. seal the deal on his hall of fame career.
