2009/2010 NFL Thread - Combine Time - Draft 4/22 -
There was some McNabb buzz in the off season last year as well. I'm not too picky if Favre doesn't come back (although i'd prefer if he did as he's been a favorite player of mine since he was the QB for the rival team) but I do want to see at least some type of decent QB as now we've seen what this team can do with a great player in that position.
Yeah, I'd be happy with either of them. I'd also be really happy with McNabb as he can run as well, something with at Brett's age seems like an impossible feat.
If we do get McNabb, that also means we can draft a DT to replace Pat Williams (who is 37, and said hes 50-50 on returning next season) and next year we'll hopefully have a very healthy E.J. Henderson, Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin (who apparently suffered a major injury at the end of the Viking/Saints game) next year.

Can't wait to see what the future brings!
Yep. I HATE NFL overtime. Both offenses need a chance.

Play the full 15 minutes as the other guy suggested. Or use the college system, but start at the 45 or 40 instead of the 25.

Or do a coin toss, but gurantee both teams possession (so you'd want the ball 2nd), and go sudden death after each team has had one possession (if neither scored, or both scored the same etc.).
agreed NFL overtime is fucking terrible

NFL Overtime rules had to have changed over the years. Anyone know what they used to be or what the chances are of them changing again? Petition that shit!

All this overtime talk reminds me of a regular season game I was watching earlier this year. The "Phil"-osopher Phil Sims about had a stroke when the discussion came up during a broadcast. The guy that was in the booth with him (I forget who it was) said that he didn't think it was right that a team could lose the game in overtime without getting at least one possession.

Phil freaked saying something like "They already played 60 minutes! What do you want them to do, play forever and get someone killed!"

Yeah, that's a little too much drama from Phil lol. But in all honesty, I understand the concern he was trying to convey, but did so poorly. The NFL game is so damn physical. It makes college football look like a Pop Warner contest. It might not seem like a big deal for them to play another 15 minutes or exchange positions, but it really is. Then, of course, games go into overtime so infrequently, maybe it wouldn't be a big deal. I don't know. But I do understand the concern he and many others have with making them longer than 60 minutes.

As far as bad officiating (an obvious big topic, as always) goes, it happens. I really don't know what else to say. It has always happened. It will continue to happen as long as humans officiate sporting events. Just like Peyton Manning might occasionally throw a really awful pass into double coverage, even the best official in the world is gonna make an awful, awful call from time-to-time. And obviously, the frequency of really bad calls is gonna go up as the quality of the official goes down. People just seem to freak out more about bad calls nowadays, because we seem them a million times from a million different angles. You see it on SportsCenter, you see it on ESPNews, you see it on the NFL Network, you see it all over the web, everyone it talking about...so on and so forth.

In the end, I have always felt like the team that deserves to win the game generally does. Or, in the case of the Viking/Saint game, the team that didn't deserve to win didn't. The Vikings played a really terrible, undisciplined game. The Saints didn't exactly blow me away, but was anyone actually watching that going, "Wow, the Vikings are going to win this!" Granted, they played "well" enough to get the game into overtime, but still. They played a bad game. The Saints were the better team on the field that day. And they won.

Overtime is fine the way it is. It isn't like the coin toss automatically determines the winner. Sure, if you win the toss, you have an advantage but it is far from the free win that some people make it out to be. I don't recall the exact stats given on Sunday but this season, the team that won the coin toss won the game around 60% of the time. It might be flawed but I prefer it much more than the college, change the whole way the game is played style of handling overtime.

just filled up my super bowl pool at work, $1000 up for grabs, but i got some shitty squares. i bought 4 and got saints/colts, 0/8, 8/0, 4/5 & 1/2... guess im rooting for a shootout.

Overtime is fine as it is during the regular season but not for the postseason. The players are so gassed out that whoever wins the coin toss has a huge advantage going down the field and scoring. You need to play the entire 15 mins to see which team can actually last that long and up their game to win.

I hope Kurt Warner flip flops like Brett Farve but deep down I know he won't.

He seems like the kind of guy that's fine with walking away with his health and accomplishments and waiting until he gets into the Hall in a few years.

I think it's a good time for Warner to retire. He made it to the Super Bowl with his second NFL team last year and came up short this year. Even if he made it this year, I think he would have probably still retired after this season. He has nothing else to prove in the game. I think the cool thing was he was an amazing story and very humble. Went from bagging groceries one year to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy the next pretty remarkable! Wish him and his family the best in the future.

can't see Peyton losing this game.

I'm ready to eat a ton and enjoy the game. My pre-game beer pong playing begins at 4:30.

Just hope it's not a one-sided drubbing. Most of the bowls have been good the past 10+ years or so.

I will be at my future in-laws home discussing wedding plans so I hope to get home during the first half.

I don't have a favorite so as long as its a good game I'm happy.

Peyton is already the best QB to play the game. Getting one more ring will just prove the naysayers wrong saying he still can't win a big game. Colts pull it out 27-20.

peytons got a ways to go before you can say hes the best all time. but the way he plays itll be hard to argue against it. of course ill die before i admit hes better than montana.

Even if the Colts win, they'll just be another team that won the Super Bowl. I'm still so disappointed that they passed up a chance to be hailed as the best football team of all time by going undefeated. Way to not play with any heart. I have more respect for the '07 Patriots despite their Super Bowl loss and I fucking hate the Patriots.

Go Saints.

It took a down AFC for him to not choke in the playoffs. Peyton only has the ring he wears now because Bob Sanders carried his ass.
pro bowl was such a snooze. i wasnt big on the pro bowl before, but dare i say it was better before...
I looked at the box score afterwards, and I almost fell on the floor after seeing some of the names. What a joke. They seriously need to just drop the Pro Bowl. All-Star Games are generally sad to begin with, but the Pro Bowl is the worst of them all.
peytons got a ways to go before you can say hes the best all time. but the way he plays itll be hard to argue against it. of course ill die before i admit hes better than montana.
The problem with labeling Peyton the greatest is that he plays at a time in which the rules are basically made for teams to score big and score often. Imagine if Montana played in today's "you aren't allowed to touch the QB or receiver" NFL. His football god status would be through the roof.

The problem with Montana is he played in a cap-less league. His team was the best because his team could afford the best.

I'm pulling for the Saints--but not that strongly as I like Peyton and don't mind the Colts.

That said I think the Colts win. The Saints barely won at home with the Vikings doing everything they could to give the game away.

And I think they're more likely to get rattled in the big game than the Colts.

Colts 34, Saints 24.

jerry rice, now theres somebody you can say "all tme great" after, congrats to him.

These commercials suck ass. I guess that's nothing new at this point. Every company is playing it safe I guess because these are not even remotely funny

Christ watching the SB makes me wish there was a video game that even came close to representing the NFL.

Also, the Saints offense better get it together quick or they are screwed.
The Saints better fix their defense quickly if they want to stay in the game.
Or get the offense going. My inclination going in was they could only wen if they score 30+ and win in a shootout as the Colts were going to score on their defense and are unlikely to turn the ball over repeatedly like the Vikes did.

Can we just finish the game with no commercial breaks because these are actually starting to piss me off they are so annoyingly bad. Can someone tell go daddy that no one cares about their stupid non soft core porn commercials?

The Saints need to fix their offense as well. They don't really have much going right now, but its the super bowl. Funny things happen
That Leno and Letterman commercial was funny.
And odd that they got Leno to do a commercial for the Late Show.

Indy has a chance to go up 14 now with a good 2 minute drive across the field.

Edit: Not if they're just going to play it safe and waste the clock.
And odd that they got Leno to do a commercial for the Late Show.
Probably filmed before Leno came back to the Tonight Show.

I think going for it on 4th down was a big mistake for the Saints. You have to take points where you can.

That drop by Garcon was a killer, but I'm hoping the Colts can get their offense going after being off the field for essentially the whole 2nd quarter. They also need to stop blowing plays on defense also.

It was a mistake of them to quickly run the FB into the line on that third down at the end of the half by the Colts.
