2009/2010 NFL Thread - Combine Time - Draft 4/22 -

And then throw and INT. For fucks sake Favre, throw the ball away! Don't throw across your body!

He had enough room to run and be in FG range!

Farve is like a hundred years old....he wasnt going to run it anywhere. You have AP and a kicker that can boot it 52 yards, they should have ran the ball.

AP has been terrible the last several months, he's actually harmed the Vikings' offense the last half of the season. Bad play by Favre, but AP wouldn't have been able to do anything. He's probably hiding an injury or something.

And the Vikings drop and INT that was literally flipped up right into the defenders hands.

They really don't want to win this game.

Imo the Vikings had this game and they blew it with the 7 or so fumbles. Farve did throw 2 bad passes but it was the 3 red zone fumbles that cost them the game.

Oh well, was pulling for the Vikings for Favre (and because my brother is a fan) but they gave the game away.

I'll pull for the Saints in the Super Bowl, but I'm not optimistic. Eeeking out a 3 point win at home in a game where the other team repeatedly gave the game away doesn't inspire confidence that they'll be able to win on a neutral field against Manning and the Colts.

It does suck that many will pin the loss on Favre, and that last INT was a terrible play since he could have ran for a few more yards, slid and had a chance for a game winning FG. But it was really all the fumbles that killed their chances.
And with that kick...let the Favre retirement talk commence!...
IMO unless he's been hiding injuries he should come back with as well as he played this year.
After a season like this Favre ain't retiring.
Farve will start for the Browns in a few years you heard it here first.

He did play better than anyone could ever expect. But I suspect he might be done. Anywho, I'll pull for the Saints in the SB, but I expect Manning will eat them up. They'll be a much better matchup than the Vikings would've been though IMO.

Disagree. The Vikings defense is MUCH better than the Saints, and that would have given them a better chance and slowing down Manning and winning than the Saints have.

For the Saints to win they have to:

1. Hope Manning and the Colts offense has a bad game and turns the ball over which they don't do often.

2. Absolutely explode on offense themselves. Brees to have a killer game. The Reggie Bush for the divisional round (rather than the no show today) show up etc.

So will anybody on the Saints or Colts play in the Pro Bowl? I'd think their coaches would not want to risk any chance of key players getting hurt, especially the "Play It Safe" Colts.

Super Bowl players will not play in the Pro Bowl.
That pass interference call that gave the Saints field goal position was bull. Plain and simple.
I'll give you "questionable." I won't give you "bull." I've seen lighter hits get called, and heavier hits slide by.

I think the NFL has their own version of Tim Donaghy.

I do not mind sudden death OT during the regular season but the Post Season shouldn't be the first to make a FG wins. The two teams were so even for 60 minutes and it turns out to the first team to gain 30 yards, kick a fg wins. It's beyond BS. I am a Giants fan so I had no interest in todays game.

OT should/could be changed to complete 15 minute quarter and then SD if still tied. Or how about the first team to 6 points wins. So that means the first team to score a td or get 2 fg's wins the game. Every other sport the offense is given a shot at scoring in OT/Extra Innings. Hockey to a certain extent because teams have scored on a breakaway to start OT.

I'd say the penalty should've been illegal contact (5 yards instead of 15, but still a first down). The kicker still would've made the kick.

It's not the hit, it's the fact the guy would had to have been 10 feet tall to catch that ball. The ball has to be catchable to constitute a pass interference call.

Fair enough, I'll give you that he wasn't even close.

Favre will "retire" until August. He's still got a cannon for an arm and if they bring back basically the same team then he might as well play another year. The games were pretty good yesterday (well at least the first 1/2 of the Jets game) but I missed the OT because I forgot to record the show after the game and my stupid DVR doesn't know anything. At least it wasn't an epic OT - seems pretty standard from what I can tell. Team that wins coin flip goes like 30 yards, kicks a FG and wins... with a debatable PI call thrown in for shits. Oh well. I guess I'd like to see the Saints win their first Super Bowl but Shockey annoys me.

In a way I'm glad I had to work so I didn't watch the entire game, otherwise I would've aged to Favre in one day. I heard lots of yells of disbelief when he threw the INT and I caught the replay, I couldnt believe it. Then I come back for OT and see the PI call, then later on find out how they fumbled their balls all over the place and in essence could have had a 3 TD lead to secure the win. Pretty depressing stuff :/

I really hope Favre comes back, he has enough time in the offseason to recuperate and this team can only get better, you wouldn't sign a two-year contract for absolutely no reason....

My one beef would be with finding some new coaches/coordinators though :)

Pretty sure he signed a two-year contract with the Jets last season.

That PI was bs. I'd wager so was the 4th and 1 play, but I guess they couldn't see it closely enough. Now I'm rooting for Peyton Manning which is crazy. I guess I'll just be happy as long as one of these teams lose the superbowl

I agree but I think it should extend into the regular season as well. One win or loss in the regular season can make a world of difference, hell if the Vikings had gotten one more win they would have had home field advantage and that would have made a HUGE difference in the game.

I know the game is a hard endurance challenge for the players but to have the entire game hinge so much on a coin flip is a little silly in my opinion. If you think about it, it really just depends on the coin toss and whether you have a a stronger offense or defense. You have a strong offense but weak defense, you lose the toss, you're screwed. The Vikings defense were no slouches yesterday but the offense having over 500 yds in regulation time would have all but guaranteed a victory if they had won that coin toss.

Ah well, the Vikings didn't win; everyone who hates 'em can talk shit at me all they want but I wouldn't trade this season for anything. I had a blast watching or listening to every single damn Vikings game I could and even if they didn't win the whole thing, it doesn't change how much fun this season was. I know I'll only look back with fond memories.
Man if the Jets had a real kicker they would have won
Doubt it, if the Colts would have rested their starters again they would have won. Honestly, there is nothing scarier to an opposing team than a determined Peyton Manning.

The Vikes had a great run but its just puzzling that they lost all composure during that game. I guess they were that nervous with all those fumbles. With Favre might not coming back...although he says this every year, the vikes need to start grooming a number 1 soon for them to remain an NFC power house.

Yep. I HATE NFL overtime. Both offenses need a chance.

Play the full 15 minutes as the other guy suggested. Or use the college system, but start at the 45 or 40 instead of the 25.

Or do a coin toss, but gurantee both teams possession (so you'd want the ball 2nd), and go sudden death after each team has had one possession (if neither scored, or both scored the same etc.).

There's a lot of buzz on ESPN.com etc. that if Favre retires the Vikes may get McNabb from the Eagles as he's due a big roster bonus and the Eagles may be wanting to move on to Kolb and/or Vick.

I honestly don't think anything could make me happier.
I've been wanting McNabb for years.

There was some McNabb buzz in the off season last year as well. I'm not too picky if Favre doesn't come back (although i'd prefer if he did as he's been a favorite player of mine since he was the QB for the rival team) but I do want to see at least some type of decent QB as now we've seen what this team can do with a great player in that position.
