Details on the release of the UFC 2010 Undisputed demo have been presented by THQ. The demo will be out on Thursday (April 29) on both PSN and XBL. However, exclusive early access to the demo will be granted via download codes. Those codes will be distributed to members of the UFC 2010 community website.

In order to be eligible to receive a code you must be signed up at the community site by Thursday. It is also stated that the “Country” and “State” fields must be entered in order to qualify. The exact details on how then to obtain the code on Thursday will be laid out soon.

The demo features four light heavyweight fighters in Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. It will include exhibition mode and a tournament mode. No word on when the demo will be available for anyone who misses this opportunity, though a week later would seem to be a reasonable expectation.
Well, that's almost the same as the roster I posted.
Yeah, minus Randy Couture, which I kinda expected. Hell of a lineup though. I can't freaking wait for this game. And those legendary fighters BETTER show up as DLC asap. It's BS to give the PS3 exclusive fighters.

Apathy, I'm guessing you took the liberty of adding Wanderlai to the list since for some reason he's not on Gamespot's list, but he appears in the video?

I took the list right off of Gamespot's page. So maybe they edited the page since I copied it.

Really? That's weird. Yeah, he's not on the list now, but he's clearly pictured in the video around 2:23, and they even talk about him, lol. WTF, Gamespot?

Yeah I remember seeing him in the video now that you mentioned it. I didn't really go through the list but it looks like they forgot to put him in. Hopefully they left some other people off that list too.

Wow, they had to shut down the forums on the official site because they decided to be cheap with the bandwidth. Hopefully this means the codes will be going out soon.

Latest word on the demo codes:

Thanks for your interest in the demo. We haven’t started distributing the demo keys just yet. The key giveaways will begin on Thursday evening. (Pacific Time) We will officially announce it on Facebook and Twitter once the codes become available.

I never really kept up with 2009, but were there any exclusive fighters and if so did they show up on every system eventually?

Demo codes are up on the website, be sure to pick the right system you want the code for, as you can only get one per account.

Ah, WTF!? They didn't update their Twitter like they said they would! I've been watching that thing for like the past 3 hours. Son of a bitch!

For anybody unaware, you have to register for the Undisputed Community (free of course) at www.ufcundisputed.com. You'll see the "Community" tab on the lower right side of the page. After you sign up and activate your account, click on "Rewards" up at the top of the site, and you can get your code to download the demo. As AK said, you have to choose your system, so pay attention, lol.

Considering some of the changes they made, it would've been nice if they had unlocked the Tutorial for the demo as well.

They made some interesting changes. I like the Sway system a lot. Makes stand up fights much better. Cagework was really needed, but when playing the computer on the highest difficulty they can bull you into the cage and destroy you. Maybe I just need to work on the standing clinch transitions. Speaking of, the standing clinch game now is a lot like grappling on the ground. There seem to be more 'escape to standing' transitions on the ground. Transitions on the ground in general feel off to me, especially the upper mount position. I end up transitioning to the side mount 50% of the time even though I'm sure I'm doing the proper minor transition. Dislike that I can no longer seem to button mash for blocking takedowns or submissions.

Much better animations, the refs and Buffer's heads are now don't seem to be so huge.

Yeah, I agree about the tutorial. I guess maybe they were thinking people could play last year's game/demo to brush up, but there's SO much new stuff this year. Honestly, that's a positive. How many other sports games add so much to an already extensive gameplay mechanic in one year? It was funny having to discover how to just get up though (click left stick). A bunch of us in the party were like "WTF, I can't get up!" The sway system was also a discovery we had to make on our own. I do think it was kind of neat stumbling upon this stuff on your own, but it's going to be difficult to really "learn" the game until it's officially out.

For one, the game is without question harder this year. The AI gets a lot better a lot quicker as the difficulty level changes. By the end of the night, I was able to beat Machida 3 times in a row on expert with Rampage...but only by keeping the fight standing. The AI is ridiculous at swaying though. I could hardly ever hit Machida in the face on expert. I had to just punish the body. He got slower and slower as the fight went on (really cool and different from last year), and eventually I rocked him. He kept recovering as I stood over top of him trying to finish though. It took me like 3-4 knock downs before I could put him away.

On the ground though, the AI is no joke. Transitions are definitely harder, and do seemed to get blocked simply because you're trying to spam them. It seems like you're going to have to actually eat some punches and wait for an opening to transition. As for mount and posturing up, the only way I was able to do it was by transitioning away from my opponents head (ie. if his head is on the right, do an up and to the left transition). Then I could pull back and start raining down bombs.

I just love all the new stuff added to this game: cage work, huge improvements to dirty boxing, stopping the fight to check on a cut, springing off the cage to escape from bottom, all the new submissions, the fact that you can flatten your opponent out while you have his back, the fact that you can escape through your opponents legs when he has your back. I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but how many other sports games give you that many gameplay changes in a one year cycle? I was pretty impressed. Again, this game has a gigantic learning curve, but I'm sure in a couple months time, we'll all be laughing about struggling on beginner/experienced.
I just got flashed sub by Rua.....on beginner. wow
Rua spams submissions like a bitch...on all levels. Didn't he do that in last year's game too though? lol

Yah he did. I hate him. I'm still messing around with it. It's hard for me cause I have the Kickboxing/Wrestling controls stuck in my head. I wish it told me what person had what kind of style. I'm gonna play around a little more with it to try to get use to it.

Just remember for clinching/grappling while standing, you have to do transitions to slam people now. It's not like last year where you could just press the right stick in one direction. It feels like more of a struggle, which I like. The referee seems to have a quick hook at standing people up/breaking people apart though.

I know a lot of new people are probably giving this game a look this year, so for anyone who doesn't know, YES, there is a CAG League for this game. We had an extremely successful CheapAssGamer Fighting Championship (CAGFC) last year which ran for about 4 month with cards every single week (which I ran under my CAGLeagueSports tag). You can check out our illustrious first run here:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=222490

As the summer wore on, there was so much info packed into that first post, we actually ran out of room. So, to get around the limitations of a simple thread/forum format, I created a website for CAGFC. I'm no web designer, but I hope it will be something we can use for the league this year.

I don't want to take the league completely away from CAG though (since it is CAGFC after all), so there will still be a thread here for CAGFC. But I do like the website for giving me a little more freedom in design and setup and things like that. But we'll see how people take to it. You can find it here:

www.cagfc.comxa.com

Stay tuned for more CAGFC info as the game's release approaches.

The movesets are no longer restrained by two specific styles, which makes it more realistic but will be a pain in the ass to learn all the moves for each fighter.

Yeah, an already very in depth game just got a lot more in depth. It almost is like real life in that it's going to take people a LONG ASS time to master every discipline. I couldn't even begin to fathom the submission transitions last night. Just the normal transitions seemed significantly harder. I'll go ahead and say it right now though. There's no way in hell the EA game is going to be anywhere near this in depth. Not on their first try.

I'm with you on that. Every strategy I had from the first game went right out the window. CAGFC folks will be glad to know I can't just get mount and body punch my way to a TKO. Hardly anyone bothered to block it but now body shots from mount don't seem to do much damage. They fixed the thing where people could go for a submission, cancel it and transition right away. If you cancel a sub now you're pretty much giving the opponenent a free transition. Every possible cheap technique appears to have been addressed.

I just hope that the online holds up. I didn't take long for UFC 09 to fill up with people with ridiculous stats, people who quit during submission animations (which the later patch counted those disconnects for you as well), and so on. While I preferred the button mashing technique at least it means that those with turbo controllers wont just instant sub people either.

Yeah, this is my only real concern. But hell, it's really like that for ANY online game these days: Madden, Call of Duty, NHL, Halo, The Show. You just have to pray that there aren't game breaking exploits that assholes will just do over and over again to avoid actually playing the game as it was intended.

In my time with the demo last night, I was actually looking for things that I could spam, haha. I didn't really come across anything, but that could be in part to the fact that half the time I was trying to figure out if I was doing stuff wrong or if the AI was really preventing me from doing things. Time will tell, but so far, I like the direction the game is taking.

I am mixed on the demo so far. I like some of the stuff, but a couple things caught me off guard.

I did a 16 fighter tournament and maybe I selected a setting, but the tournament didn't lock your fighters in so you could change fighters even in the semi-finals and final.

The flash subs are definitely annoying because it feels like there should be a way to fight it. Maybe only certain submissions should be flash subs. Rua subbed me multiple times and nothing seemed to help.

I still need to get used to some of the striking. It might have been my controller though. It just felt off and the commentary didn't always match. They would call a great knee strike and I was out of range. Also I haven't found a way to really defend while throwing strikes. It seems like every fighter drops his hands and then has a delay after a strike before you can defend. As a result every strike I would throw would connect but I would get hit a split second after during the animation.

Lyoto Machida's standing takedown as far as I can tell is unblockable. Even when using him against the computer on Expert they couldn't defend it, and it puts you into half-guard one major transition away from full mount.

Dude, no offense, but you're complaining about such rookie things. Flash subs are the same as flash KO's. They happen because you did something stupid to put yourself in a horrible situation to get finished. The commentary is some of the best sports commentary in existence. Show me a sports game that has better commentary.

As for your gripe with striking...I don't really get it. You want to be able to block WHILE throwing a strike? How does that make sense? Like it or not, you have to be strategic with this game. This isn't Street Fighter or some button masher where you throw 800 punches in a round. Being defensive is just as important as attacking. You have to get your opponent's timing down right. Trust me, it takes practice.

None taken. I didn't spend much time with the game and this was just my initial impressions.

I don't have an issue with flask KOs since they seemed to dial them down some though I have knocked out the CPU twice on the first punch. My issue with flash submissions is you can watch them happening and not fight it. They almost seem to happen in slow motion versus a quick shot. For example, Rampage was on the ground with Rua in his guard. From the guard Rua flash subbed Rampage who was laying flat on his back with a Kimura. The submission took 5-10 seconds in game time which should be something you can fight especially when the game has to sit Rampage up so his arm could go behind his back.

I don't play the other sports games. The commentary for the most part was fine, but when they are calling nice knee and the guy is out of range it makes me wonder if they game is counting it as a hit.

I would like to be able to keep my hands up for example while throwing a leg kick instead of dropping my hands every time a strike is thrown just like they do in real fights. I guess I am just approaching it from how they really fight versus how they fight in the game.

Brennok - Have you turned the stamina meter on? If you're out of stamina there's nothing you can really do to fight back against someone with full stamina in a submission.

I don't think the commentary is the best, it mostly consists of Ohhhh nice hit! Nice knee! Good counter punch there! Etc. It was repetitive in my first fight.

Flash KO's to me seem dialed up over the last game. I've had way more flash KOs than ones from rocking an opponent.

Well, my opinion on the commentary is that it's more relevant than what you get in 99% of other sports games. A lot of times they don't even talk about what's happening. They'll talk about the player's history, or what happened on the play before. With the full game not being out yet, I can't really say how great this year's commentary is, but I thought last year's was awesome. And I'd be surprised if they went in and made it worse this year. I'd also guess that it seeming repetitive is because of the demo. They probably don't have the full range of comments to pull from considering last year they did talk about previous fights, a fighter's nickname, etc.

I agree somewhat about flash KO's. They do seem to happen a lot, but I think that also has to do with who you're playing as and what difficulty you're playing on. I was getting them pretty easily with Rampage...but not as much on Expert as I was on Experienced. They probably could tone them down a little though...and they had to do this last year as well. It's a tough call because the KO's look insanely good, and I never get tired of seeing a guy drop like a sack of potatos. But they do happen more than they should.

Well, that's gay how PS3 is actually getting more stuff then the 360.

Legendary Fighters

Dan Severn
Royce Gracie
Jens Pulver

Legendary Fights

• UFN 18 (April 1, 2009) – Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann
• UFC 60 (May 27, 2006) – Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie
• UFC 66 (Dec. 30, 2006) – Keith Jardine vs. Forrest Griffin
• UFC 68 (March 3, 2007) – Martin Kampmann vs. Drew McFredries
• UFC 102 (Aug. 29, 2009) – Nate Marquardt vs. Demian Maia

I would have liked to have Dan Severn and Royce Gracie. :(

Yeah, I really hope those legendary fighters become at least paid DLC on the 360. Of all the freaking things to pay for in sports games...5 star athletes, player boosts, etc, extra fighters is something that would actually be worth it.

Sadly enough, I'd drop 400 for those two fighters lol. I'd love to see another Severn vs Shamrock

You make it seem like my Awesome skates I bought weren't worth it or my awesome goalie pads......oh, wait a second :p

lol
Funny. I ran into a glitch where the AI charged in at me, and my guy went into like a takedown sprawl...and he just got stuck there. I couldn't move, and my opponent couldn't hit me. I was just frozen until the round ended. Obviously with a demo, I'd expect those kinds of things. I just hope they get it cleaned up before the game ships.

Also, Darktower and I spent a good two hours the other night trying to duplicate something I stumbled upon in my first hour of playing the demo. I think I was Rampage fighting against Machida, and we were trading strikes. And all of a sudden, the ref stepped in and broke us up. At first I was like "WTF??? Why did he stop us? We were in the middle of punching." But then I realized that he called the doctor in to look at a cut I had given Machida. The doctor checked the cut, and Machida was allowed to continue. It was freaking awesome to see that kind of thing in the game.

But ever since then, I can't get it to happen. I've had Mike Goldberg talk about how bad the cut is, but the ref won't stop the fight. Darktower and I even tried taking our opponent down after cutting him, and just throwing a million weak punches to work on the cut. The guy's eye will be basically swollen shut and the damn ref still won't step in. I have no idea how I just got it to happen without even trying.

I've had this happen once to me so far and thought it was neat.

Right after I knocked Machida out last night there was a cut scene of him laying on the ground with trainers attending to him. Then Goldberg/Rogan said that it looks like he doesn't know where he is. Then it cut to just Shogun getting his hand raised for the win with no Machida in the picture.

Yeah, I've had that happen a couple times too...usually from brutal KO's. It tends to happen for me when I throw stepping uppercuts and catch the guy as he is also coming in. He drops like a ton of bricks and Rogan says something like "Wow, he is really hurt, Mike!"

I think Gamesharing would be a great idea in this situation for people who don't want to sign up for the UFC/UFC Undisputed site.

Also, sounds great. I think the actual stand up looked kinda weird though, maybe a bit tooo fast?
