Yankees going out in the first round takes a tiny bit of the sting out of the Braves choke job! Hope the Phillies follow suit tomorrow.
I'd rather choke in the playoffs than choke in the last 3 games of the regular season and not even make the playoffs.

Having lived through the former in 2003 and the latter this year, I'm not sure I'd agree with that. :cold:

Dont forget a 8 game lead squandered away padres style

Oh me too for sure! But my team choked so all that's left is to root against the teams I loathe!

insane game tonight. Can't believe the Yanks lost. yankee bats real silent tonight and where is the clutch hitting. Reminds me of the Mets tonight.

Well this off season should be very interesting now.

Another disappointment in a long string of them in my life recently. I'd be lying if I didn't say this hurts like hell because the Yankees were a way to forget about some other crap going on for me. *sigh*
Good job Rob Thompson not sending A-Rod home on the basehit to center. That worked out really well. Should have let him just railroad Avila into the next county.
I'm not an A-Rod hater, but I don't think A-Rod has ever run over a catcher before.

No. I never had any delusions about them winning the World Series. There are some definite changes that need to be made and some attic cleaning that should be done for that to happen. But the constant need to rip on an underachieving team only reveals your own insecurities. Plus, all I ever see you do on CAG is talk shit. NBA thread, NFL thread. Let me know when you have something intelligent to say.

I've never seen a Yankee fan talk about the Mets so much.

Blasphemy, calling me a Yankee fan.

You must be new to the thread.

Its cool, I'm not a Yankee Fan. I am a stereo typical die hard Mets fan who bleeds orange and blue. Everyone can pretty much back me up here because I have been posting in this thread for pretty much forever and its the only team i post about here unless there is a tight discussion going on.

I made that comparison because the Mets have a tremendously hard time hitting RISP and tonight, the Yankees looked like that comparison. They would put RISP but after that, the rest of their batters become auto outs.Just like when the Mets set up Wright or Beltran(when he was here) with the bases loaded and all we get are either So or Infield pop flys.

If you click on my profile you will see that there is a picture of David Wright and My avatar is wearing a Mets Hat. that should tell you more than enough.

Detroit needs the Tigers to win so fucking bad. The Red Wings must feel like shit having to shoulder all the burden for Michigan sports. Yeah, Michigan is winning but all we care about is that they fucking beat Ohio State. If Michigan State can beat them and Michigan can't, that's just sad as hell.

But as much hope is riding on the Tigers, if the Lions make it to the Super Bowl it'll TRULY be a fucking miracle. There's actually a chance this year, so far they've either come from behind to win or stomped the other team, but if they win it'll be monunmental. My dad keeps saying "The last time the Lions won I wan't even alive."...shit, they didn't even have a Super Bowl back then.

So please, Tigers and Lions (I would be a smartass and say Bears too...but the Lions still need to beat them) win something so the Red Wings can lose a season and for once not feel so bad about it. The Pistons manage to step up once in a great while, it's your turn.

I am a Wings fan myself and I can never fathom the city of Detroit ever be disappointed with the Wings. that to me would be true blasphemy.

I picture the ALCS to be an absolute slug fest.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Wings...not as much since Yzerman retired, but enough still. It just sucks that our state's winning team is a hockey team and hockey still manages to be considered a "lesser sport" to football, basketball, and baseball. Reminds me of when Kobe Bryant said "Those hockey guys are tough, but us basketball players are pretty tough too!" I swear, everytime an American rags on a Canadian, I'm like "Dude, they appreciate hockey, leave them alone."

Baseball and football have been Michigan's sore spots, it's time we won a title in those sports. It's not like I'm just pro-Michigan though, I feel bad for Cubs/Bears fans in the same way since Chicago is kind of a sister city to Detroit. They need some wins too. It was awesome as hell that their Blackhawks won one...but again, it's like people still don't respect hockey. So, like Michigan with the Tigers and Lions, Chicago needs the Cubs and Bears to win a title too.

I'm so drunk right now, sorry for all this $$$gy brotherly love talk. I need a hug.

The hound needing a hug is really weird.

My apologies. You seemed pretty happy about the Red Sox collapse and kept mentioning the Mets, I assumed you were a Yankee fan. I've not posted in any of CAGs MLB threads since 2009 was the first season I was a member here and I gave up on that season pretty quickly.
Swisher is such a bum. How many postseasons of zero production will it take for Cashman to finally go out and get someone else?
He's garbage. Seriously, if ever I felt someone didn't deserve their ring it's him.

I must admit I was wrong about Detroit. I really didn't think they had it in them since they just coasted into first place without any competition. Now I just hope they get crushed by Rangers, because I really want to see them in the WS for a change.

Um...do you not remember last year?
He's garbage. Seriously, if ever I felt someone didn't deserve their ring it's him.
Exactly. He's awful. He's something like 1-30 with runners in scoring position in his playoff careeer! 1-30! How is that even possible? He's had ONE good playoff series as a Yankee. One. He makes A-Rod look like the most clutch player in the universe.

He also makes millions of dollars a year and has a smoking hot wife. Some guys have all the luck...

FixT.
One playoff win in their history before last year still makes it a change in my opinion.
I agree, and I'm pulling for Texas now because I like a lot of the players on their team. I just thought the comment was a bit odd. When I started reading that sentence, I was expecting "Now I just hope they get crushed by Rangers, because I really want to see them in the WS to avenge last year's loss to an overrated Giants team." lol.

As for the Yankees, next year's team could look VERY different. Posada is all but guaranteed to be gone, especially since there's no way Montero doesn't make the club out of ST. Swisher could (should) be gone. Hell, Sabathia could be gone. I almost think I'd let CC walk if not for the complete lack of pitching on the market. He didn't perform that much better than Nova when all things are considered. Still, he kinda has the Yankees over a barrel with the uncertainty of the rest of the rotation.

AJ Burnett's return to Mr Hyde at the end of the season is truly mind boggling (his last 3-4 starts almost looked...dare I say it, competent), but of course it means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully Hughes can get back on track in the rotation. I feel like one more setback and he can permanently reserve his seat in the bullpen next to Joba.

Speaking of Joba, hopefully he can rebound from his injury because he actually looked strong and confident early in the year. Overall though, it's dumb to worry about the pitching (especially bullpen wise, where they are stacked) because once again, the bats completely failed them. Even though the Yanks outscored Detroit 28-17 in the series, it basically all came in two games.

It blows my mind that somehow this team is back to waiting on the three run homer AGAIN...and it appears Cano has caught the disease as well. There were so many times last night where just a single would tie the game, but everybody comes up swinging for the fences. Maybe that's an ego thing, but SOMEBODY (manager, hitting coach, captain, etc) has to keep it in check.

Brett Gardner was one of the most effective players in the series because he just hit the ball where it was pitched, and wasn't trying to pull everything. It's ridiculous that fans can see it, but coaches and players getting paid millions of dollars because they "know the game" can't. The fact that Posada and Jeter were two of the best hitters says a lot.

Umm... I'm not a Yankees fan at all, but here's a comparison:

Pitcher A: 237 IP, 8.72 K/9, 2.31 BB/9, 2.88 FIP, 3.02 xFIP
Pitcher B: 251 IP, 8.96 K/9, 2.04 BB/9, 2.99 FIP, 3.12 xFIP

Pitcher B is Justin Verlander, Pitcher A is C.C. To say that Sabathia was hardly better than Ivan Nova is... uh, well, it's something, but it certainly isn't accurate.

Well, given his .254 lifetime batting average, the probability of him getting 1 hit over 30 at bats (in this case, 30 at bats with RISP) would be .155%. Which is still pretty low odds, of course.

Of course, you weren't looking for actual numbers. You were looking to vent. But I just love using binomial probability.
More than anything, I just want to see Nolan Ryan get his ring before he kicks it. ;)
He has a ring from the 69 Mets.

Can you give me those number last 2 months?

I think CC faded down the stretch and he's not been a beast in the playoffs. Plus he'll want 5 y ears 100+.

Does he? Wow, I'm retarded then because my childhood memory was him getting close but denied every time.

I know how you feel. The Phillies fall into this category, as they did last year.

August:

42 IP, 9.57 K/9, 1.06 BB/9, 4.09 FIP, 2.49 xFIP

Sept/Oct:

26 IP, 9.91 K/9, 3.76 BB/9, 3.18 FIP, 3.14 xFIP

He gave up a few homers in August, that's the cause behind the bloated FIP. There wasn't any corresponding velocity drop, so I'm willing to guess a few balls just got squared up. BABIP was pretty high during those months, as well. His velocity increased as the season wore on, too, so I wouldn't worry about him falling apart for at least a few years.

I don't know about 5 years, but 4 years and 100 mil would be fair value, and something he'd probably live up to. Anything past three years for a pitcher is asking for trouble, though.

this home plate ump in the mil/ari game is just awful, gallardo has thrown prob 15 pitches more than he should have had to because of awful calls

i dunno, but he's killing me, dude is in love with kennedy

The home plate umps have been TERRIBLE in the Phillies/Cardinals series. They're not favoring one team over the other, they're just blind.
