50% select Anime Box at Amazon only (dead at BB)
This robotech set is freaking huge. Damn good deal for about $40 with tax.
Yeah, I don't even like anime and I think I may get it just because how much is there for the price! Also, just got another $5 reward zone certificate :)

Also, no one else bought Noein and can confirm if it is in English?
Never noticed that, packaging makes no mention of it. Anyway yes Noein has a dub on the dvds
Awesome thanks! Wife will be able to open it peacefully now :) It is just so weird they didn't label that on the box set (and labeled it to make seem like it doesn't have English) but did on the individual DVDs.

robotech set sounds interesting -- then again, only the macross saga is worth the time investment and the money. latter series were poorly animated and -- well -- storylines are hardly up to par -- even compared to the child-centric macross saga.

just keep in mind that robotech was the FIRST anime brought to US TV, so you have to understand the action sequences and dialogue are no way near what today's animes are capable of.

Bottomline: IMHO, Robotech is ONLY worth it if you grew up on it -- it's mostly a nostalgic purchase. People unfamiliar with it will probably scratch their heads and wonder what all the fuss is about.

Problem is the second part of the Robotech series was based on Southern Cross and that was crap to begin with. By the time the third part rolls around i'm sure many will be struggling not to drop the series. Macross and the third part based on Genesis Climber Mosepeda were well done.

What are the odds of Amazon price matching this? My local store doesn't have Evangelion in-stock, and I'd just as soon save tax & shipping.

It wasn't really the first anime series, there are plenty of older anime series like speed racer. All of robotech was pretty poorly animated, this is after watching this remastered version. That doesn't make it a bad series though. The second half, southern cross/masters, isn't nearly as good, even back when i first saw it years ago i thought so. I always thought Dana was the dumbest girl in the entire robotech series.

There are a few scenes of nudity, which strangely enough all seem to take place in the shower. It's funny actually, the animation is so poor that you can barely make out anything.

I am looking forward to watching the new remastered version of Robotech to see what has been altered..
It was probably my gateway anime, watched much of it during its original runs, and then again when it repeated on my local PBS channel, so i will always have a soft spot for it in my heart.

Picked up Noein today, could not justify skipping out on that one. I mean, Anime based on Quantum Mechanics, sounds like win for me.
The Robotech Protoculture Collection for 38$ it's a steal!!!I mean it's not the original uncut japanese series, but for any Robotech fan, it is a must buy, even if u have all the other Robotech stuff even if u have Macross , Mospeada and Southern Cross......will check my local store!!!
Yeah, that's an absolute steal. I just got that set from Rightstuf for 70 bucks and I'm pretty happy with it even at 70 bucks.

Anyway, I'm in for DBZ Season 4 and Samurai Deeper Kyo. Thanks for OP.

Ordered Tokko, Noein, FMA & DMZ: S4. You guys are attacking my wallet. Infraction system is preventing me from changing my sig. Have 4 in-store pickups.

Thanks OP, I picked up Noein, Already got the others I want...I remember years ago when it cost me $125 to pick up NGE, the original release of course. Anyways, thanks again!!

Is the Evangelion that's on sale missing a lot of special features? I've was looking, I couldn't find any info about what is missing but this one is like $70 cheaper and I can't imagine that the bonuses are worth that.

Picked up the last Robotech box - this thing is a monster. 22 DVD's of an anime I've always wanted to check out for $38 is insane.

Picked up Robotech Protoculture at my secret Best Buy. I was PISSED because it was listed as in stock at every local BB as of Saturday, however when I checked this morning all the stores in LA listed it as out of stock/not available.

No doubt many people bought before Sunday in order to bring it back and pricematch it during this week.

So I decided to give it a shot at my secret Best Buy, which is a new location that not many people know about. They didn't have it on the shelves, but the CSR went to the back and came back with one. SCORE. $40 with tax for the 3 Robotech series plus the extras is a monster deal.

I bought robotech PC at the BB NOHO manhattan. They had 4 left. It seems that this is the only BB in manhattan to carry it. Hurry. Hopefull I can sell my legacy collection for more than 20 bucks.

Does this sale of anime boxsets was advertised at the local ads or it was just instore advertised only, cause here in Puerto Rico's ad, there was no anime boxsets deals advertised. If so can someone hook me up with the protoculture collection PM, please so we can discuss the terms then. Thanks in advance.

Why not buy online?
Why not buy online?
Cause when BB came to PUERTO RICO the first thing they did, was taking out the option of PUERTO RICO from the online store, whenever we try anything on their site we can't order cause we are PUERTO RICO, the same thing did Circuit City and when Compusa came the same thing, note also that I have checked some prices and they raise the local prices here, and it is almost not worth it to buy anything locally instore except sometimes videogames and movies....That is why I am asking about the special. So if any cagster would like to help me with the protoculture collection, help would be apreciated.

Yeah, this is the thinpack that has just the episodes, no inserts and no extras I believe. The original dvd releases had extras like interviews I believe, but the price is totally worth it. This set also includes the director's cuts of episodes 21-24 with extra footage.

For any people new to the anime scene, if you dont pick up Elfen Lied or Neon Genesis: Evangelion for those prices your mad crazy.

God I wish I could have gotten them that cheap. Not really interested in the other things since they dont offer the other seasons of DBZ or FMA

Just looked at Robotech,Neon Genesis Evangelion, & Elfen Lied. and only Neon Genesis Evangelion is at a store near me, and its 30 mins away. I'm not sure If I wanna make the trip though. If they had Robotech, it would be a definite because its such a steal. :)

**EDIT** Just looked and Noein & Samurai Deeper are at the one just a few mins away from me, can anyone tell me what those are about? :)

Picked up Noein today using in store pickup. When I selected in store pickup on the bb website, I checked again a day later and it said they were sold out. When I went in though, they had like 3 copies of it on the shelf, so if anybody sees that it's sold out online, you might want to check a store near you anyway.

And for those who've been wondering, it contains both Japanese & English tracks in both 5.1 and 2.0 surround. $18-19 after tax is a great price for this awesome series. I'm kinda glad Righstuf was sold out when they were having their 40% off sale on Manga Video titles, cuz this is cheaper lol.

Noein is very scifi heavy for those who don't like that stuff. It's about some kids trying to save the world(s) from impending interdimensional collapse from other parallel universes/timelines, orchestrated by a single entity who resides in a separate dimension from the kids and the scary lookin guy you see on the cover.

Someone elsewhere (DVDTalk i think) said that if they have only 2 or 3 copies, they mark it as 'not in stock' for instore pickup. The store I did get Elfen Lied from, originally had Robotech as not in stock; when I got there, there were two copies on the shelf, so I went ahead and picked it up and cancelled my online order for the store further away.

wow..a perfectly constructed description :whistle2:D but it's still recommended even to the non-heavy semi-light sci-fi fans :)

Is it like a non-action sci-fi like Lain?

Man, I'm tempted to bite on DBZ. I just don't think I could get over the fact of how badly they messed it up, probably won't even enjoy it...

I picked up Full metal alchemist season 2 part 2 yesterday.

I didnt look for Robotech because online i was told non of the stores had it in stock.
I might double check if people are finding it.

It's uncut, by the by, with the original audio, too. ;)

For the DBZ people:

I like the original cast from waaaaay back in the late 90s (I think it was the Ocean or Funimation group or something?). I can only get those dubs on the individual DVDs they released a long time ago, right?

Just making sure.

Don't start with me on how I should prefer the second dub team. I'm not having it.

I lost count of have many times gohan get choked in disc # 1 & 2...why do they they have to powerup and down so many times? Seems like wrestling after a while.

Simple solution, watch the original original Dub Team the Japanese one. The dialogue is much better, who ever wrote the dub scripts must have not spoke much Japanese.

This was highly irritating for me, as I bought Dragon Ball Z Season 4 for $35 at Walmart thinking that was a great deal, only to find this out a week later (and one reciept missing so no pricematching). Bleh.
Is it like a non-action sci-fi like Lain?
Oh there is plenty of action too. I would definitely bill this as Scifi Action. Their action scenes are kind of interesting though animation wise. Whenever they get into some heavy fighting, it turns into a kind of pencil sketchy style. It's kind of weird, but neat at the same time. I think it's just to show that whenever they fight they can ignore the laws of known physics in the world that they're in...or something. Or it could have just been a way to fall within budget who knows...

what does season 4 of dbz cover?

Just got the Robotech Protoculture, I am so happy, since this is the only version that has the original spanish track in 5.1, happy cause that was the way I saw it when I was a kid!!!!Now my kids will enjoy it also!!!!

I liked that dub cast a lot too, and yes that is your only solution.
what does season 4 of dbz cover?
Garlic Jr., Trunks, and Android Sagas according to Amazon
For those that don't believe how bad the cropping is, here is a pic stolen from amazon.
I don't have the screencap of this in the original, but do you really need one to see how bad it is cropped?
Then the second is showing what you loose, and gain

Even still, who really cares about some of what you lose in the picture? For $20, you're a fool to not pick it up if you're a DBZ fan of some sort, you weeaboos complain way too much about losing a little bit of the picture that doesn't even matter. Taking a still like that may annoy you, but watching it, it really doesn't matter.

I think there has been one scene in the 4 Seasons that I have watched that actually bugged me.

And I'm not calling the box sets perfect, it has some flaws, but getting DBZ at this price is fantastic no matter what, and having it upscaled and not stretched, I'm completely cool with how they're doing it.
this is classic ADV tactics only now it's funimation. This is the reason why anime has gone belly up and pioneer geneon have all folded. this triple dipping is death. They will release DBZ in widescreen and when it's all bought out will release a remastered "ORIGINAL UNCUT" edition. ALthough, I did buy the Broly saga on blu-ray and it is AMAZING!!! it's like actual anime cels brought to life even though I hate broly and DBZ in general. Once you see actual anime that was originally on film remastered onto blu-ray you will be floored. I'm still in awe of it.
I was afraid someone was going to say this.

I'm partial to dragonball (z or otherwise... even GT) and bought a few episodes but the grotesque pricing (18 bucks a dvd, and there's what, 200 of them for all the episodes? Assuming it's been released) that abortion known as the saga of goku, and now the revamping of the seasons only to learn that everything is chopped up? Nevermind what they did to the US dub of GT.

I went ahead and bought season 4. Do the dragonball seasons suffer the same problems or is that just limited to DBZ? I think I'll probably forgo the rest of DBZ except for Saiyaman saga & World Tournament (which were my favorite parts of dbz anyway). Then I'll wait for it to come out on bluray and watch it there.
