Alan Wake General Discussion - Out May 18, 2010!
I'm on the fence about canceling my Amazon preorder for Alan Wake.

I like the faux book packaging but not sure that this is something so cool that the LE wont' drop in price along with regular game.

Anyone have thoughts on this LE?

Is it gonna be Halo Legendary or Bioshock LE?
Not sure. I can't imagine it'll be either, more like somewhere in the middle.

Personally, I pre-ordered at Gamestop with the 25% off coupon from April, so I got it for $60. And I'll have 30 days after it ships to return it to a Gamestop store for my money back.

Although I really, really would like to play it when it comes, I'm probably going to spend a ton of time with Red Dead Redemption, so that'll give me the time to see whether the Alan Wake LE is at least somewhat rare. Assuming it's not massively overproduced, I'll probably keep my copy.
When is that? I have them both falling in my lap the same day already (probably like a lot of you)... but I'm popping Alan's cherry first. That might not have been said as I intend... oh well.
I'm not quite sure. And I'm in the same boat, I have both of these coming on May 18th from Amazon. Can't wait!

Really cool half hour quick look from GiantBomb. Brad seems to really love it. (Word to the weary: no major spoilers)

Edit: Just reailzed DukeEdward already linked the QL a few posts up. My bad

Hmmm.. maybe I should order from GS instead because I can return it in store if I change my mind. I don't see how this is a miss though. I love video games and books... duh.

But in the back of my mind, I know I got Bioshock 2 LE for $50 at BB.

any decent GS coupons this month?

I had hoped to hold off on buying any new games for awhile. But this looks very interesting. Oh, and Prince of Persia the same week? My wallet weeps.

Just watched the GB QL and I never read up about the game, and now I want to place a pre-order for it. Not sure if I should choose this over RDR, or I might get both for the hell of it.

I have no friggin clue why I didn't order it with the GS coupon.

Just cancelled my Amazon LE preorder and preordered from BB instead. Easier to return if I change my mind.

It was probably the shock you experienced from seeing good deals coming from Gamestop. My shock wore off after about a week, at which point I pre-ordered pretty much everything I have an interest in buying up through Gears of War 3. At worst, I'll end up canceling the pre-orders or returning them in-store if the games don't get good media reviews and other pre-order bonuses from Gamestop.

Game looks good but I'm going to hold off on this for a sale.
Sorry but almost $70 (after tax) for a 10hr game is too much for me.

Maybe I'll rent it to give it a shot though...

Almost a week away. Been hearing mostly good stuff about the game. Seems to have an average of 8.5+, so that's always good. I didn't expect it to be an epic or innovative title that was long, so I'm not getting disappointed by some of the reviews and their negative comments about that.
I really like the way Remedy creates their games and love the narrative part. Also, game looks beautfiul and looks like a lot of fun.

My question is what is the main difference between the regular and limited editions? You get the Bright Falls Theme and I am Awake Avatar T-Shirt with ever preorder, and it was announced by GameSpot that every new copy comes with the 1st set of DLC for free. So what is left for the limited edition? It seems you are better off buying the regular edition and getting a $10 video game credit off amazon. Correct me if I am wrong...
I think its the book, soundtrack and an extra theme...
yeah
The Alan Wake Files” – a 144pg book that includes a short story written by Alan Wake and compiles the FBI dossiers investigating the events in Bright Falls

I was just wondering if the DLC in the limited edition was the same as the free DLC to all new purchases and if the theme was the same? If it is the same then the book, art, and music arn't worth the $20 extra to me...

^The DLC is the same. It's essentially a voucher to get the first DLC episode for free. Going to be in every new copy of the game. But I'm unsure as to whether or not the theme is the same. Something tells me Remedy (or Xbox Live I guess) didn't take the time to whip up two seperate themes, but I could be totally wrong.

Oh and I've heard the avatar clothing is different. Standard gets the I Am Awake shirt and the LE gets Alan Wake's jacket. Or something like that.

I'm just a sucker for limited editions, so that's what I went with. For me, the $20 is justified by the soundtrack CD and the exclusive theme and avatar stuff (I'm assuming this ISN'T the same as the preorder Bright Falls pack). I love game music and I hear that the music in this game is pretty good, so I'm sold.

If I get really into the game, the book and commentary will be something I'm glad I have too. Actually, having a running commentary in the game is a great idea. That way I won't feel all alone while the game is scaring the heebie jeebies out of me!

If you need to pre-order a couple things, using the GS 25% off code is the way to go because Alan Wake LE comes out to $60. That's the only reason I got the LE. I planned on spending $60, so I used the code to get the LE for the same price. Good deal.
so the regular edition will include the dlc voucher as well?
Yes sir.

And yeah, I thought the 25 off coupon didn't work for pre-orders. I would have used that for this and Red Dead Redemption :whistle2:(
Yes sir.
Looks like I'll stick with the regular edition. I'm hoping that the $10 off from Amazon will continue after release since I want to apply my $20 from RDR but they come out on the same day.

I used the code 25OFF when StarCraft 2 was first became available for pre-order. I guess that deal is over. Sorry about that.

Oh my god. I just watched the final episode of the Bright Falls series. Incredibly good. Creepy, surreal and simply brilliant. Can't wait 'till Tuesday.

For anyone that hasn't seen it yet, DO IT! Machinima has all six episodes up on YouTube in HD.

Oh, thanks for the reminder! I watched the first 3 episodes then totally forgot about it because it was weird and kinda stupid. But I'll at least finish it out.

I'm with you. It was filmed really well, better than most TV B.S. thats on right now. The acting was kinda empty as the episodes went on but it would be a cool long-shot to see this go somewhere in the future.

Yeah, some of the actors were less than stellar. I thought Jake and the Doctor were good. And something about the cop's performance in the last episode was quite good.

Also, is it just me, or does Jake remind anyone else of Cliffy B with some facial hair?

agree with some, this is a rental. i am sure it is a great game, done well, but a SP game with no viable MP or other experience enhancing content after the main story resolve is not way worth $60 to me. a weekend rental and a good single playthrough is fine.

Rental for me as well. I am getting RDR on Tuesday. I will probably just gamefly the game this week for 10 bucks for the month.

There will be 2 DLC's so far. 1 free if purchased new. Also the game has to be beat on Normal or Hard then on nightmare to get the full story.

I can understand why some would rather buy a game with MP, Hope it doesnt effect the game so much that it bombs and no one buys it.

What is going to greatly affect sales is that Red Dead Redemption comes out the same day, along with Prince of Persia and Split / Second.

This week is too packed with releases - MS should have done Alan Wake either last week, or the week after, but above all else they should have moved it out of the way of RDR - imo, that is going to cannibalize sales.

I'll be getting both on Tuesday, but I wager most people won't and will probably go with RDR, unfortunately for Remedy.

This game has missed so many release windows, they did the right thing by not moving it. I think this game has already found its audience and will have good enough sales
Yeah, I feel the game will do fine. And I feel sorry for those who buy their games for 60 still.
While i agree, I got the LE for 60 and thats far to good to pass up.

Im such a whore for commentary modes! best extra for games ever IMO. screw soundtracks ect..

LE for 60 is a great deal. I'm not into having all that extra shit though, but alan wake's extras looked pretty cool.

I have till tomorrow to figure out if I should cancel my preorder or not. The only reason I would keep it is because I got the LE for $60 but the extras don't seem that appealing to me any more and this probably isn't a game I'll keep in my collection. I'm thinking maybe I need to cancel.

I've kinda been on the fence as well, but I'm leaning towards keeping my preorder. The game looks cool, I like the LE extras, $60 plus $10 coupon is a fair price, and I want to support the game. However, Red Dead Redemption will probably suck my life away, so I don't even know when I'll get to playing Alan Wake.

At the very least, I'll have 30 days from the date on the packing slip to return it. That'll at least let me see how much time RDR will suck from me.
Got my confirmation from Gamefly that Alan Wake has shipped! Takes about 3-5 days for it to get here though...
I just cancelled my preorder and got a month to gamefly instead for 2 games for 15. I still haven't had a confirmation yet about Alan Wake.

Well I usually have the games that are coming out soon at the very top of my queue. It also probably helps that I've had it in my queue for about a year now. You might not be as high on the waiting list.

Yeah, it's already low now. I have been pretty successful in the past getting new AAA titles by joining up on the release date.

Minor update, they just shipped it. Not bad for being a member for the first time in a year.
