Animal Crossing: City Folk - Gen. Discussion and info

Is there an easier way to get a Golden Axe from the Fountain Fairy? I mean, if I throw a Silver Axe in, can I get a Golden Axe back? Or do I have throw in a Regular Axe?

I'm watching movies but I thought i'd open my gate for a while so that some of these new faces could raid my fossil collection.

Anything by the gate is fair game, and I think I might have an extra Dynamic Painting (blathers won't tell me if it's fake since i already have one).

Do what you want in town, but don't trample my hybrids.

WHAT THE fuck!?

So Nook's closed for remodeling for the 2nd time on Tuesday. FINE.

Wednesday I had to work 4 different jobs between 10AM and 10PM so I didn't get home until 10:30PM.
Lo and behold, Nook's had been "upgraded" into some bullshit that closes at TEN PM again! Why the HELL would Nintendo do that?!? So I say screw it and just grab some fossils and water my red turnip.

Today I'm playing again and I decide to read the town message board:

"1/7 [YESTERDAY] Today we have a special item in: THE MASTER SWORD! -Nooks"

So I decide to try time-travelling. Not only could I NOT get the Master Sword, but all of my turnips spoiled! God DAMMIT!

ouch, that really sucks.

i do have to admit though, i think it's at least a little cool how the game does what it can to keep people from time traveling.

as for the 10pm thing. it is kind of an odd thing. i don't really get it. but, if it doesn't bug you, you can always set your town time 1 hour in the future.

I found Wisp tonight and if you pick the option where you say you don't want anything, he goes back into his lamp because he says he can't go home until he grants a wish. So it looks like you can keep the lamp as long as you want to until you're ready for him to grant a wish.

Speak of the devil. I time traveled 1 hour so I could see turnip prices (Nooks was closed) and found out about this turnip spoiling thing. I can understand spoiling if you're TT'ing days, but an hour? Oh well, lesson learned. I do wonder - if my kids time travel while I have turnips will it spoil my turnips?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure your turnips will spoil if someone else in your town TT's. I doubt you'll be able to set the clock back to the second the game thinks it should be on either; so regardless, when you start your game up it'll think you TT'd.

I'm also pretty sure the Nook turnip price is randomly generated the first time you ask for it. In other words, when you talked to Nook for the price, and then went back in time, and then you talked to him again in the correct time on the same day, did he give you the same price?

Turnips spoiling through TTing isn't new to the series. Although it is a bit picky. As far as Turnip Prices go, who knows, but most of the time it is 100% bullshit. Going from 63 bells to 47 bells in a 1 minute span is crazy. It should never drop below 60 bells, ever. Joan never sells for less than 80, and they should really limit your losses.

No - I went back an hour in time because Nook's was closed when I tried to check the price. I don't know what the price was. I didn't realize that TTing would spoil the turnips. Better to learn the lesson when I had 120 turnips then to learn it when I had 1000, I suppose. Oh well. I'll have to talk to my kids about time traveling - got to make sure they don't do it any more either!

By the way, if anyone looked for me between 8:30 and 9:30 last night like I said I'd be on... sorry about that... I feel asleep. Oops. I woke up late and checked in and found romeo online and paid him a short visit. Saw Angela there as well. Thanks for the axe and the construction hat romeo! Awesome house too. With the axe I planted the rest of the fruits finally.

To all who added me to their friend lists, thank you! And please don't delete me. I ended up having to go to the hospital for two days because I had a severe viral infection, so that's why I haven't been on. My fiance laughed because the only thing I was concerned about was making sure my red turnip got watered.

It's amazing how concerned we get over the red turnip when alternatively we can just shake a few non-native fruit trees and get just as much.

I had OVER 1000 AND a Red Turnip I had watered everyday this week until today (THURSDAY).

There's a discussion about the grass/snow on Nintendo's Tech Support boards:

http://techforums.nintendo.com/nins/board/message?board.id=gamehelp_accf&thread.id=271

NOA_TECH_ZEKE responded with this:

Hello,

The previous users are correct, it's the running that causes the grass to wear away. That being said, what we've found is that turning the game off, back on, and then running over that same patch of grass makes it wear away even more quickly. For a lot of players, they might play one or two rounds of Animal Crossing a day and never see any paths form. Players who switch characters often or play multiple rounds a day may notice their grass disappearing much more quickly.

The good news is that the grass will grow back, albeit slowly. To expedite this process, players will want to plant trees and flowers around their town. Also, as other users have suggested, players will also want to avoid running on the bare spots, which will prevent regrowth. We understand that this can be tricky in commonly traveled areas (near Tom Nook's, ramps, or the player's house for example).

As always, you can contact us at 1-800-255-3700 between the hours of 6am and 7pm PST any day of the week to discuss the situation with one of our representatives. Thank you.

Planting trees & flowers hasn't helped my game at all when I load it multiple times a day between my 3 characters.

turnips 332, gate's open :)

edit - i'll close my gates at 9pm (pacific), since that's when nook's is closed.

On trees, I have noticed that a tiny bit of snow accumulates around the trunk, and because of the tree you can't destroy that. So if you chop down the tree and dig up the stump you're left with a tiny circle of snow. I thought that tiny bit of snow might magically appear around the trunk as soon as the tree was mature, but no, you have to wait for the snow to accumulate. But if you're patient enough, you could wait for the snow/grass to be there and then chop down and move every tree slightly to the side. Rinse and repeat

And I run through trees  I have patches of trees that are surrounded by dirt. There's no way I'd stop running in my town unless I know there are flowers nearby. To me, it's just not worth walking so painfully slow all the time. And I can't imagine it's much fun for visitors to stress over ruining a friend's town either. My town will be dirt for the rest of its life but I've stopped caring. I have every piece of snowman furniture, and my flowers and myself will make it pretty enough

Estimated delivery is Monday. I'll try to make room for all of the recent contributors to this thread and I'll send you a pm when I add you.

Sigh. I wish I hadn't TT'd and spoiled my turnips. If you've got the gate open later tonight, though, I will stop in anyway. Also, I'll check my turnip prices in case it's any good at my town.

Here's to hoping they actually fixed it and haven't sent you a refurb with your town gone *poof*. Or can they transfer the memory from one Wii to another? If that's possible, I'd really like to know how to do that, but I suppose it would be uber secret....

Thanks, I've been told they have ways of doing it. I'm not 100% sure, but at least I've only put in 2 months of play time with Animal Crossing.

I'm over the grass thing. It looks like crap but as long as I have enough snow to make snowmen I am fine with it.

Nook spotlight in my store today is a throne for 800,000 Bells! Nice! Now I can get a bunch of Nook points just for buying it. :) Too bad he doesn't sell it in the catalog.
I was just happy yesterday that our Nooks finally had an axe for sale! We've got a long way to go....
I just got upgraded to the Nook N' Go. I still have no axe and slingshot (which pisses me off since I have seen about 4 balloons).

BTW, thanks buttle for leaving you gate open last night. I managed to steal some fruits so I could plant some new trees.

Yesterday was my first AC-free day since two days after release (the day i got it). Basically I played it every day I owned it until the day I traded it away. That last few weeks were really feeling chore-ish, but I couldn't stop playing because I wanted to finish my perfect town status.

That's always been a problem with the game...you don't want to stop playing out of fear for the penalties, even though you might not be having a fun time. That's why I've always felt "cold turkey" is the best way to stop.

Oddly enough though, I'm having just as much fun reading and posting in this thread.

I added:

Add me when you get a chance. I'll have an open gate most nights.

PM me if you're not listed above and want me to add you.

Thanks
How the hell do you throw an axe into your fountain?
Go in front of it, and try to chop it like a tree. He should fling it into the fountain then. Only works once per day i think. I havent tried to do it the same day with different axes.
Yeah its now become a chore for me to turn it out and go through the town.
That is why I take it extremely slow when playing this game. I only play with my wife (usually at night) and we aren't going insane planting a million fruit trees to harvest for an hour to sell to Nook or buying a zillion turnips on Sunday to try to make a huge profit. Trying to get everything in the first month of play is what makes the game unfun, IMO.

We just cash in extra fossils, rare fish, etc., when we have them but generally we just talk to our townspeople, design clothes, etc. When it becomes all about getting your house/Nook's/whatever fully upgraded as fast as possible, it doesn't become a game anymore, it becomes work.

Heyy, i'm Nikki and i got AC for christmas. Anyone want to i guess be my friend on there, and add me to it, i'll add you as well. Me and my brother who play figure itd be nice seeing as we'd be able to trade stuff and get stuff, visit other towns, etc. :)

I'm on right now, so just msg me if you want to add me and i'll add you.

i threw my axe in the fountain for the first time today.
he asked what kind of axe it was,
i told him it was a normal axe,
and he gave it back.

i'm not sure what i'll try tomorrow.

i agree with you about trying to beat the game in a month. but i think buying and selling turnips is a ton of fun. and i do tend to buy a lot of turnips.

it's crazy to lose interest after getting some bells. bells are only a small part of the game.

Applecrisp I just added you and my info is below. I'm playing for a bit now and if anyone is online I've got my gate open. ProfWho - if you stop in I can give you an axe and my Nooks has a slingshot for sale.

Im going to feel bad for the people buying the game in 6 months and they cant find the thread. Then they will make their own thread and I will yell at them 'sigh'

I got my fountain today. I have enough to donate for the windmill/lighthouse, but I'm not sure that I want either of them. They kind of get in the way since they build them right at the edge (so you can't fish in front of them). And I don't think that rumor about the lighthouse attracting rare fish is true. I fished in another town that had a lighthouse and just caught a bunch of dabs.

gate is open- Nook is having his point sale today. Don't know how that works in other peoples towns.

Oh yea- Who ended up with my extra Dynamic Painting earlier this week? Was it real?

Well I sent my info to the OP.
Anyone ever visit www.zombo.com
That's where I got my inspiration for my town.

I got the painting since Romeo was too slow in picking it up.

Yes, it was real. THANK YOU! If I have any extra styraco tails, I'll give it to you. I only need one more fossil myself. A styraco torso.

if anyone got any extra fossils i'm looking for a seismo chest & icthyo skull

All grandpa jokes aside I was not slow in picking it up & I was just being nice & letting you have it :nottalking:

Miranda I just dug up your styraco torso yesterday

when is the best time to sell turinps or when are the prices the highest?
also is it true that if i put them on a box or table they will not spoil?
