Animal Crossing: City Folk - Gen. Discussion and info
i know :grouphug:

I'm just trying to get as many hybrids, and I had them arranged a certain way
I'm getting hybrids, but they're always orange pansies.

7th, they don't ALWAYS hybrid. Make sure they are watered.

Also, to better your chances, put them together diagonally.
For example if you were to do 2 flowers.
X = Space
F = Flower

FXX
XFX

And so on, and so forth. This gives more room for a hybrid to appear. ALSO, they have to be the same breed of flower ;)

Keep in mind, not all the colors mix. Red in all flowers will merge with other 2 colors. Yellow and White, however, don't always go with each other OR 2 yellows or 2 whites. There's a guide online about what colors will make what for each breed of flower.

The roses are whats up.You get a lot of different color and you can even hybrid the hybrids :D

Hey boo, wanna play in 30 or so? I got Nookingtons, and a bunch of crap I dont want at my gate. Just let me finish my fishing tourney...(Missed out so TTd back to have some of the action)

Yay - I won my fishing tourney with a 46.5 inch Sea Basstard. For once when I was ACTUALLY looking for Sea Bass they were hard to find though :bomb:.

One of the animals had a 43 inch one and I kept getting within less than an inch until finally I got one that went way over. I also had a Tuna in reserve that I would have dropped in there at the last minute if I didn't find a big enough Sea Bass. I got the record with about 10 minutes to spare and just kept bugging the guy to make sure no one beat me out ;).

During the fishing, though, I missed a rare fish. I say it is rare because it took the first bite and despite my being pretty quick on the reelin' in, it took off. It was slightly smaller than a sea bass. What could that have been? (It was in the ocean and it was not snowing so for sure it wasn't a Coelacanth).

So I bought a measly 200 Turnips this morning for a little over 20,000 bells (103 each). I could buy more, but I don't want to shake down trees because I'm currently trying to grow some. I'm hoping to get at least 60,000 bells out of this investment, maybe 80,000. I've pretty much figured out that you have a 100% chance of growing a tree in this game as long as you don't step over it at all while on its' first day. After that, you're gold.

I also bought a Red Turnip, but I forgot how long those stay alive for.
Water the red turnip every day and sell it to Nook this Saturday.
Wait, have you guys been able to buy both white and red turnips at the same time? I've tried buying red turnips the last two weeks while getting the white ones and she says she's out of them. What gives? I know no one else in my game (ie, one the kids) is buying them. I thought maybe it was a one-or-the-other type of thing.

It usually means someone else is buying it. I know my brother buys it before I do and after that, thats when Joan says there's no more red turnips. Iunno, you might want to check again with your kids.

Lost the fishing tourney against my brother. For it to be a fair contest, we decided to only use sea bass. Gah. His fish was 46.7 in, my longest was 46.5. Booo.

think i'm going to skip on turnips this week, leaving for my parents extremely early friday morning. don't want to risk only playing the market for 4 days

Mine are 108. I bit on them, wasn't too bad.
Bought 2000 of them and crossing my fingers.

We finally ended up donating enough for a new bridge..
Now that we both voted, how long does it take for the bridge to show up?

My turnips are 102. Boo! I just bought red ones, but I might buy 10 white ones just to let spoil since I haven't caught an ant yet.

I tried that this week, and left them in front of the town hall, but when chip showed up they got moved into the Lost and Found.

I didn't realize what had happened, and took them out and sold them.

You've always been able to buy both every week in every Animal Crossing game. She's clearly lying to you. Time for you to bust out the shovel.

Hm, I should do that. EDIT: haha, I meant the ant thing. Not busting out the shovel.

Turnips are 103 in my town. Bought 6400 turnips... filled the whole basement...

I used to do that with turnips in AC:WW. I'd put 9 bunches of turnips out in front of the town hall where special characters would show up. Then once a special character visited the turnips would be put in the lost & found where they'd never spoil. It was a great way to hold low priced turnips until Nook had a good buying price. Since Redd came to town once a week in WW, I always had a chance to get my turnips in the lost & found.

I don't know if they'll never spoil in AC:CF's lost & found. I haven't had a chance to try it out since it's kind of rare when characters set up their structures in front of the town hall.

In wild world that happened when the DS time and the game time were desynched. Is your Wii set to a different day? It could also result in Nook never buying turnip for a high price.
--
edit:
Maybe it is the result of time traveling? I just tested this, kind of. My AC clock is 13 minutes behind (Wii time was off when I first started the game. I set the game to the correct time then, but when I went back and set the Wii to the correct time, it caused the AC clock to be off by that much). Well I turned on the game and asked Joan for red turnips, she had some. I saved and then set the AC clock ahead 13 minutes to the correct time and talked to her again. She said, "welcome back" but then she said she was sold out of red turnips

They say to always time travel by changing the console's clock and not the in game clock, because then bad things start happening. But I didn't want my Wii and AC clock to be set to different times. That could cause unwanted things to happen too. We'll see if this is permanent #-o

Interesting. My son is playing and found Joan and yeah, no red turnips. My white ones are 104 too... I guess I just missed going to other people's towns, too, unless they have it set up differently.

Yeah, in AC:WW I would set the DS clock. In this one I'm setting the AC clock. I'm not really time travelling, just keeping it a few hours behind so Nook isn't always closed when I play at night. I suppose I could just change the Wii clock and sync them up. I mean, who the heck cares if the Wii clock is off by 2 hours .

I'll try that before I play and see if that makes Joan sell the red turnips after my son was denied.

Rookie question... when me and my girl take pictures in the game and save it on the SD card, how do you see it? Or where does it go? It seems to disappear... we checked the data from the wii menu and didn't see anything on the SD card. Thank you... that snowman looks crazy, how in the world do you do that?

i cheated for the first time today. i worked till noon and i really wanted turnips. i checked online to see if anyone had their gates open with a later time, but my online was having trouble.

so i just went back in time and bought my turnips. there were at 107, so not a great deal. but i'd be really sad if i didn't get to check turnips prices all next week. so i spent everything i had on them. 150K i think.

Go to the photo channel, you can see them in there.

If you want to upload them, they get saved in a folder on the card that any PC could read via an SD card reader. Then you'd transfer them to a service like Photobucket or whatever to have them hosted online.

7th is correct also - I just wasn't sure what you wanted to do exactly with your pics.

If anyone remembers my last fishing tournament, it was a smashing success. Everyone came home with prizes (winner getting rainbow feather and 75k), and I decided I wanted to do it again. I'm scheduling this baby on the 31st at an unspecified time EST. Ive wanted to do something for the CAGcrossing holidays, and I think I've finally found something that everyone will enjoy:

CAGxing Mega Million New Years Fishing Tournament

The thing about this tournament (fish catching) is that you actually have to win your way into being a part of this tournament. But why do you even want to be a part of it? It will probably have 1 stupid prize, an Ok prize, and a slightly-above-average prize. Right? Wrong. You see, the thing about this one is that this one has prizes that you actually want, with my third place prize actually surpassing my 1st place cash prize of my last tourney. You see, the prizes are:

3rd Place: 150,000 bells
2nd Place: Midna's Mask

And it wouldn't be a "Mega Million" tourney without a first prize of:
1,000,000 bells. That's right. 1,000,000 bells.

But how can you get such a prize? You have to enter by December 26th at 11:59pm EST And it only applies to people in the OP by December 20th at 11:59pm EST (If you sent me an add since then, and haven't been added, you are eligible as well). "Winner's" will be announced December 29th and the tournament takes place December 31st at an unspecified time (for now) EST. I will select randomly, and there is no entry fee. You enter by PMing me that you wish to be entered, and you will be entered.

edit: In OP now
Hey Filler, are TTing around? Any good turnip prices
Haven't started yet. For the axes, Im rotating between a thursday and friday, the two best days, so there is bound to be something good coming up.

Well, I set my Wii clock and AC clock to be the same (just 2 hours less than real time). I'll leave it there for the week and see what happens. But after I got back in the game Joan still said she was sold out of red turnips. Maybe it is because she first appeared when the clocks were out of sync - so I'll have to see what happens next Sunday.

Can someone explain the golden axe thing to me? What is this with fountains and time travelling and Thurs/Fri being good days? I guess it isn't like the DS game where you had to trade a red turnip to someone and trade what they gave you to someone else, etc, etc...

Fountain: Unlocked after you donate 500,000 after getting the bridge (750,000 total)

Gold/Silver axe: Throw an axe in (once a day), and you have a small chance of getting one of these axes.

TT: Time traveling-used to get axe speedily

Thursday and Friday being good days: Refers to turnip selling. These days are almost always the turnip high point and if I rotate the axe chances to some chances CAGs can get great selling points, everyone wins

If you throw an axe in and it doesnt turn it silver or gold, do you at least get it back?

PS i tried to throw it into i think Tom from Memphis' fountain and it wouldnt let me.

She can take the axe away too. It all depends on luck, how you answer her questions, and some sort of karma thing I don't quite understand yet.

Ah, thanks - you had me confused there with all the axe/turnip discussion mixed up ;). It will be a while before I get a fountain, unless someone comes through with 500 bell turnips this week. Even so, I only bought 800 or so, so I won't make that much - will pay off my upstairs. I want to do the house first before donating to the town fund.

In other news, my kids made a snowman today. Oh yeah, not in the game, but in real life ;). Around here they only get to do this once every 3 years or so.

Strell - that's the noisy one there ("The Beatles rock! The Who rock!", etc...)
