Anime and Manga Thread Vol. 1: Visions of a God
Have you at least watched the TV series and End of Evangelion? There's no reason to hold off on those.
I stopped halfway through cuz i really didn't like it all that much. I do want to try to pick it back up and finish it sometime soon, though.

I ended up watching He is my Master and Jubei Chan recently.

He is my Master is definitely a show that doesn't take itself seriously. It clearly takes shots at the genre it's in and the people who love said genre, but at the same time the show shamelessly panders to the audience. I got a chuckle here and there, but it's a pretty mediocre show with the same gag over and over again, with lots of panty shots thrown in for good measure. It's also obviously trying to make all of the loli lovers out there VERY happy.

Watching Jubei Chan was very nice. It washed the taste of mediocrity left behind by He is my Master. Plenty of laughs to be had in this one. Some nice, albeit short, samurai type fight scenes in almost every episode, too. Definitely one of the better shows I've seen in a while. Can't wait to watch season 2.

Just got done watching Angel Cop. Wasn't too terrible considering it is part of Anime World Order's "Holy Trinity of Suck" (along with Violence Jack & Mad Bull 34)

So, what to watch next. I'm split between finishing up the Holy Trinity w/ Mad Bull 34, or taking a turn for the worse with "Legend of the Overfiend"
Jubei-chan 1 and 2 are excellent series.
I wouldn't say excellent, but it's a great pallet cleanser.

I need to get the rest of the series, as I just have the first three volumes of the first series.

Finished Baccano last night. Man why can't all series be this badass?

Since I already have Jubei-chan lined up, everyone's positive comments will probably get me watching it next.

Also which is better Air Gear or Tenjo Tenge?

Finally watched the Cowboy Bebop movie last night. I really enjoyed it, since it was nothing more than just a really long episode.

Now, I will be moving on to Jubei Chan 2.

Yeah, the Cowboy Bebop Movie is cool. My sister is a very casual anime fan at best (she is hardcore DCAU like me thought so all is good) and she enjoyed it.

Got to see Jubei Chan 2 today. It retained what was great from the first series and added more epic fight scenes. Jiu herself frustrated me a bit during the middle of the show
with her absolute reluctance to accept the eye patch.
Both series were very enjoyable, and it was nice to see them greatly increase the production values for the second one.

Now it's time to go back and polish off Kiba after a long break.

I didn't really like the CB movie. Watched it like a week after I finished the series and just thought it was alright. I liked the show a lot better.

Finally got to see Kiba all the way through. Fortunately, I remembered most of what was going on, so I didn't have to go back and watch it from the beginning. It was a good series, one that I had shrugged off after seeing a bit of it on nick.com (I think it was nick.com).

The only crappy part is that the DVDs came in a lame ass stack pack. I really hate these things, and hope that it doesn't become the norm for packaging.

kiba was surprisingly full of twists and turns that kept it interesting. it's like a grown-up pokemon with actual good writing.

Kiba was fucking terrible, and you're absolutely crazy.

Speaking of crazy, am i crazy or does the dub for Ghost Hunt suck beyond belief?
kiba ... it's like a grown-up pokemon with actual good writing.
Thanks, now I know to stay away from kiba (first time hearing of it).
Kiba was fucking terrible, and you're absolutely crazy.
i dunno. i didn't watch THE DUB OF IT. LAWLS.

seriously, i hate "magic animals"/stands/robots or whatever doing your fighting for you, but kiba seriously won me (and my friends) over with its increasingly bold writing style.

it's surprisingly violent, mature, and filled with human drama rather than promo tie-ins like most digimon/pokemon/animals-fighting series.
Speaking of crazy, am i crazy or does the dub for Ghost Hunt suck beyond belief?
You are crazy.

Here's what I said about the English dub when I finished watching the show:

Ghost Hunt's English dub is masterful. If I didn't know better, then I would assume that when it was originally animated that it was intended to be dubbed in English instead of Japanese. The English voice actors perform spectacularly, and their voices always matched the mouths of the characters. The English writers did an amazing job in adapting the Japanese script; the dialog is slick and clever at all times, and it never feels stilted nor unnatural. Todd Haberkorn plays the voice of Naru, and this is his best performance that I have seen; at first I couldn't even believe that this was the same voice actor who played Yamato in Suzuka. Cherami Leigh plays the voice of the main character, Mai. I adored her voice. I loved Mai as a character, but Cherami completely brings Mai to life. Oh, and everyone else's voices are fantastic as well.

I'm watching the 2nd Gurren Lagann movie... All I can say is that I can't believe they made that final battle even crazier. Also.... Missile boobs
Oh, and everyone else's voices are fantastic as well.
nothing like the amazingly neutral and objective views of RAZZZZZZZZZZZ!!
razz just has so much love to give, he must give it to everyone and everything!

Razz reviewed Kirin Lemon awhile back:

From the touching Utena avatar with a half-smile that says, "Hey can't we just smile for a bit as long as we're alive?", to the clever revolutionary user text (in flawless Kanji!) we can see KL is alive with quality. Early on when he was merely a cheerleader for Utena, Monster, and Princess Tutu I was really able to delight in every moment and word posted. However later in the series when smarmy one-liners defined to a T the gross inadequacies of everyone else's choices, I knew KL was one of my all time favorite posters along side Punisher, Koggit, Liquid2, and Otaku No Rei. KL's profile pages reveals a guy with glasses (I have a bit of glasses fetish) and fingerless gloves (ok I have a HUGE fetish for those) which shows great character design and detailed touches that make KL shine above others. Of course, even though KL is from Ashiya, Japan, I prefer to read him dubbed in English as the work is brilliant and even superior to the original Japanese, I'd say. Even though KL left me feeling sad and introspective and the fan service can get a bit much at times, I feel confident saying KL is one of the greatest of all time and is fantastic in every way just like everyone else and I can't recommend him enough.

:D
Somebody's jealous!
awwww come on i put a bunch of work into that and this all i get back? :(

dude i impersonated razz doing a review of you! that is EPIC.
also, not sure what i'm supposed to be jealous of?

I enjoyed the first ep of Gundam Unicorn. The animation and music were great. I'm just annoyed that the 2nd ep is coming out in the fall... It ended just as the Gundam was about to fight. Still the only thing I can complain about are the extras. I'm not really sure why they had to use BD Live for some trailers

What is the must see anime for someone that never seen it before? I figure if I'm going to start, I'm going with the best. Also what's the best place to get them?

Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Princess Mononoke are good places to start. I would also recommend the Read or Die OVA, Mushi-shi, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. I don't know what your tastes are, but try looking into all of those and see if any of them interest you. The best place to buy anime is Right Stuf. You could also buy from Best Buy, Amazon, and some other retailers, but their prices are usually higher than Right Stuf's prices.

I heard alot of good stuff about Neon Genesis Evangelion so I just might start there since it seem so similar to Xenogears and Xenogears is my favorite game of all time. Nothing beats giant mechs, martial arts, and the bible rolled all into one.

It sounds like you are already prepared to watch it, haha. If you don't mind, you should let us know what your thoughts are after you watch it.

I agree with Razzuel, Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist are both great starter anime's and among the best series. Other good starter series include Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Death Note (I got my dad who doesn't watch anime addicted to Death Note... he watched the complete series in a week).

Neon Genesis Evengelion is my all time favorite anime series but I wouldn't take that on as a first time anime. Start with one of the series above and then watch Evangelion. When you do watch Evangelion, make sure to also watch the movie afterwards "End of Evangelion".

Will do and thanks for the suggestion. So after I finished the series, am I suppose to watch "Death and Rebirth" than "The End of Evangelion"?

You can skip "Death and Rebirth", it is just a recap of the series. After the series you watch "The End of Evangelion" which is the real ending of the series (the last two episodes of the series do not really end the story... you'll see what I mean when you get there).

I heard alot of good thing about Ghost in the Shell and Death Note as well. I'm just confused on where to start for Ghost in the Shell. I'm not sure what's the difference if any between Stand Alone Complex, 2.0, and the regualr Ghost in the Shell.

I haven't seen Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion yet; I'm still in the process of locating the version that I want. From what I know, Death and Rebirth is a remix of the original TV series, and The End of Evangelion is the sequel to Death and Rebirth. Supposedly, The End of Evangelion takes place after the end of the TV series, and it provides an ending that is more coherent and satisfying than the original TV series' ending.

It is safe to start with Stand Alone Complex. I never saw the first GitS and had no problem following SAC.

Skip Death and Rebirth... it is a waste of time. Go watch End of Evangelion, it is epic! It is also the reason why I wouldn't recommend Evangelion as a first time anime series.

Well, started watching Kurau: Phantom Memory. Was able to watch 8 episodes so far, and I'm liking what I'm seeing. Got a good story so far and some nice action. The only negative thing is "Christmas." Jeebus, what a terrible name.

Cue Razzuel's head exploding because someone else is watching Kurau in 3...2...1

*BOOM*

Hell yes! I'm glad you are enjoying it thus far! Though, you did scare me for a second when you said Christmas was a negative. Christmas is my favorite character from Kurau, and I don't know if you've noticed, but I have had a picture of Christmas as my avatar for a while now. I can understand why you don't like the name, but I like it, and it fits her character and the story.

Hey, I picked up the Noir series for under 20 bucks. Is it any good? The few reviews I skimmed through seem to be in high favor of it. I may pop that in next if that's the case.

He meant like the retail version/packaging :p. (he's a good boy; doesn't download anything). He got the deluxe box set, wouldn't you know.. Hehehe.

I still need to finish Kurau! Only 2 more episodes to go and I can't bring myself to watch any anime lately. >.< Hopefully today (although I keep saying that).
