 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Movies-TV-Anime/zgbs/movies-tv/2959100011/ref=zg_bs_nav_mov_2_2958934011 (DVD)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

But, then there's also the English version *shudder* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4JUZhF9Kx8

Which still isn't as bad as the english magic knight rayearth openings.
Im not gonna lie.....I kinda love that song, I got the MP3 back when Toonami was still airing it.....

And before you ask, yes I also love the first ending to Spice and Wolf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo_wVKQMSBc

Those old Toonami promos were the best. The original promo they ran for Gundam Wing is still one of the best "trailers" I've ever seen for a show, anime or otherwise. It makes me want to go back and watch the series every time I see it. The Endless Waltz promo was equally amazing.

So what's the difference with funimation getting the trilogy? I already have all 3 on steelbook when they came out. Is it just a reprint licensed by funimation?

I love spice & wolf's closing, problem with the kenshin and MKR op dubs were they were sung by someone who couldn't carry a tune in a bathtub, well she would have a little bit of difficulty, and her voice is SO ANNOYING.  I've heard the english kenshin opening sung by someone who COULD sing and it's actually good. This isn't the best example, but she is at least pleasant to listen to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWM7D5Xxlyo

To outer space, every one of us! ;P

no joke, I enjoyed the Eng OP of Rurouni Kenshin.

On the topic of Eng OPs

Still like it after all these years.

I wish FUNimation was allowed to dub more openings. Their early dubbed opening were great.

Speaking of English openings I actually liked the Tenchi Universe opening:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXm-Mf37Yno

I've also got to admit that I have a fondness for the original Ocean English Dragon Ball theme:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHIv69nbTfI

I always love how that opening makes it seem like Oolong and Puar are major contributors to the show.

As for Tenchi, I'm more partial to the 2nd OAV theme, myself. Ah, the days when they released the English themes on CD...

We love I am a Pioneer in this house.  I played it for my wife when she hadn't seen the show, and when it ended she said "I don't care that that was almost 7 minutes, I LOVE THAT SONG".  I also loved the Negima?! english opening (even if the show isn't that great in a lot of people's opinions). Also, let's now talk about anime openings that desperately needed to be dubbed, but weren't.  My biggest candidate is Spiral, when Funi licensed it, I though "oh please, god, please let them dub it!"  For those of you who haven't had the *AHEM* pleasure of hearing the song, here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54Zg1DFyY7o

Of course, then you have the fandubs that you wish actually were the official English openings.

Agreed, I love that song. There are some artists on Youtube who have great English covers.

Just out of curiosity, how many people were first introduced to anime via Toonami? I remember Toonami was where I was introduced to anime.

I wasn't introduced to anime via Toonami, but it was relatively close. I watched DBZ in syndication and Sailor Moon on USA's Cartoon Express.

Technically the first anime I watched was an old kids' cartoon called Maya the Bee. The first one I knowingly watched was Pokemon.

Also just noticed there was talk of Conan, so I am compelled to jump in. All of Case Closed's English songs were great. I even liked the one from the second movie, and that one had a very high bar for me since ZARD is my favorite artist.

But what about

first anime I saw was Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland in 1990 or so

http://myanimelist.net/anime/2286/Little_Nemo?q=little%20nemo

granted I didn't know it was an anime until like 5-10 years ago lol.
There's an anime for Little Nemo?! I loved that game on NES.

[Outlaw Star Opening]
You can't mention Outlaw Star opening and not the ending. Still my favorite to this day:

And the dub isn't terrible. My kids love this film.

And Outlaw Star had two ending themes. ;)

I really got into anime bigtime because of Toonami, but I wasn't introduced to it that way. As a kid, I used to watch VHS tapes of Speed Racer, Gigantor, and Astro Boy. Also, the Noozles was on TV, which I found out later was from Japan (that was that weird Koala bear show).

I became even more interested in anime a bit more when I was 7 or 8 after watching my uncle's VHS copy of Golgo 13: The Professional.

I watched Toonami a ton, but actually The Sci-Fi channel introduced me, about four or five years before Toonami they ran some anime, so at the young age of 8 I saw Akira (even though its my first I just think its ok at this point, a classic, but not my favorite.) Then they ran Galaxy Express 999, and Battle Angel Attila. That got me started.

And Project A-Ko and Iria. The Sci-Fi block was awesome. :)

Catching up:

- I own the Ocean Dub Dragonball/Z soundtracks.

- Freckles kicks the butt of that Spice and Wolf theme.

- First anime movie I saw was Ghost in The Shell. Second anime movie that got me hooked on seeing more was Princess Mononoke.

- First anime show I saw was Bubblegum Crisis 2040. From there I  watched Adult Swim anime with Gundam 0083, Tenchi Muyo, and YYH. It wasn't until months (years?) later when I caught DBZ on Toonami in 2001-2002 that I was hooked.

-  I like all the other OPs and EDs people have posted. I seem to recall there were some English versions of Inuyasha themes that were good.

- Toonami promos. I have some on my Big O DVD's - even one on a Playstation 2 demo disc:

As a Big O fan, it should come as no surprise that I love this promo:

And let's not forget this gem:

Not sure if anyone follows WTK on Twitter but he highlighted that Robert from RACS said that an "insider" at FUNi told him that the Haruhi UCE will be limited in production quantity. That was enough for me to panic and put in my pre-order at Rightstuf while I have my Got Anime membership still active. And here I was willing to pay for the R2 Blu a couple months back. *shrugs*

I'll be honest in saying this - Haruhi hasn't exactly been a hot thing in a long time. It had it's time in the sun but for the almighty RACS to declare it to be potentially rare is as "true" as his statement with the Toradora fiasco.

Meanwhile every PE Funimation has put out has been in stock for months after it's initial release. You're fine.

Fact: Haruhi is the best girl throughout all time and space. I only vaguely remember the Toradora thing, can you refresh my memory.

For those that might not know about it, the Kodomo no Jikan KS has 10 days remaining and needs to make an additional $45k. They have updated their rewards and pledges so be sure to check them out.

TL;DR of the story was he refused to honor a coupon for the PE of Toradora then he openly fired shots at us (CAG) for being upset about it. Said the stock was so "limited" and he personally was rude to me via e-mail for wanting to cancel it due to all of this. The set continued to be stock after this. But who knows? Maybe he got his "limited stock" back because we all cancelled our orders.

Since then he's stalked this thread and occasionally makes random replies in this thread then returns to lurking. And on that note - Hi, Bob!

The only big thing that I didn't see mentioned about RACS and Toradora was that he was going to charge the higher amount and ship them out without getting approval to do so.

THAT is why I'll never do business with them again.

And there's evidence that he holds back stock on limited releases, then puts them up on Amazon above MSRP.

Hmm, If it's limited in "quality" why would you want to buy it? :whistle2:k
Oops, I meant quantity. I was typing my post at like 2 in the morning.

Granted that RACS is by far a reliable source, I'm wondering just how low the set can go. I remember paying an exorbitant price for the X TV DVDs over a decade ago from them because they were the only website to guarantee slipcases for the series -- whereas RS couldn't even after e-mailing them inquiring -- so this scare could be a ploy for people to pay a possible extra $20-30 for a set there will be plenty of. But a semi-limited production does make some sense to me considering all the Haruhi series are going to have their individual releases and bundling them doesn't bring in as much profit. Not saying Robert is truthful in any way after the Toradora fiasco, but I don't want to get screwed over later for just wanting to save $20. I'm still kicking myself for not getting a new copy the Gurren Lagann Blu LE when I could have at $480. Insane price, yes, but after buying series released by AoA, a complete release of four shows seems cheap. (Now I'm trying to justify. X_X)

If you've got a MovieStop near you, stop by NOW. They've gone down to 70% for Used DVDs and all of them are Buy 3, Get 2 Free. My local shop had mostly random singles, but I picked up a bunch of Pokemon DVDs.

The New boxsets are also 30% off, so I managed to get Free! Eternal Summer Season 1 Premium Edition for $60.
