Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!
This is what I have sitting in my collection now left:
.Hack//SIGN Collection (I've seen a bunch of episodes, but never the whole thing)
Fate/Stay Night
Full Metal Alchemist Season 1 Boxset
Full Metal Alchemist Season 2 Boxset
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 1 (Blu-ray) Boxset
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 2 (Blu-ray) Boxset (Arriving this week)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season 1 (seen a bunch of episodes, never the whole thing)
Gundam Seed Destiny Collection 1 (I'm a huge Gundam Seed/Gundam fanboy, so I need to see it)
Gundam Seed Destiny Collection 2
Gundam Seed Destiny Final Mix+
Gundam Wing Collection 1 (seen most all episodes, but missed a few)
Gurren Lagann Complete Season

All the rest I have I went through completely. I still need to pick up more such as finding Code Geass Lelouch The Rebellion Part III (already have part I and II boxsets)

I should be getting Soul Eater boxsets, Lucky Star, HunterXHunter, Kenshin, and a bunch of others I haven't completely seen (I want Naruto and Bleach boxsets, but there's so many to buy/watch which is why I'm holding back).

The reason for me not seeing every episode of some animes is due to limited funds in college early on/high school (when I was heavy into watching anime), I watched what I could on TV, but some episodes got missed. I just got back into anime again, and there's a lot I would like to go through.
I'd recommend running through Fullmetal Alchemist next. Then run one or two other shows before getting into Brotherhood.

I've finished the first 26 episodes of Sgt Frog. I really like the show, and the voice acting in Funimation's English dub is perfect, though their is a slight problem with Funimation's version of the script. It doesn't seem like the people at Funimation know how to effectively write a comedy, so there are some jokes that feel forced or fall flat. However, the show is pretty funny most of the time, so it doesn't ruin anything.

Now.
I'd recommend running through Fullmetal Alchemist next. However, I didn't get to see all episodes. I'll probably just go ahead and see it next, but one reason I put it off is because I know it will take a while to go through it all, lol.
Finished Hanaukyou. It wasn't the worst anime I've seen, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The series starts out ecchi, then turns to harem, then ends with drama... it's like the devs couldn't pick a genre and stick with it. I might start Niea Under 7 next.

Half way through Kenichi and enjoying it. They throw in just the right amount of new characters to keep the story entertaining.
Ugh I'm sorry you had to finish it...and to go to a terrible show like Niea next...props to you for not dropping the whole anime thing after doing this.

Finally finished all of School Rumble after delaying it a bit (damn you, Eternal Sonata!) and I really loved it. I wish a third semester would happen in the future, but who knows. It's now time to watch Pumpkin Scissors.

Once I start an anime I usually finish, even if it is awful. I didn't start Niea... damn, is that one bad too? I went with Dears instead, and so far it kinda feels like a bad version of Chobits.

Yeah I regretfully finished Niea...it has lots of potential but goes NOWHERE and does NOTHING. Then it just ends.....almost as if the maker realized what a waste of time it was.

I think Dears is bad too, but I haven't watched it to confirm that 100%.
Go watch Baccano! or something...I worry for your health and safety.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Don't listen to Kuroi or Kirin when it comes to NieA Under 7. They don't know what they're talking about. It's a hilarious slice-of-life show with amazing characters; I loved it.

I have Baccano and a whole lot of other good series in my backlog, but atm I like to watch light-hearted / fun / non-serious series. Unfortunately this genre is few hit (for example: School Rumble, Lucky Star, Ichigo Mashimaro) and many miss.

I bought it a while ago so I'll definitely give it a go. Probably after I finish Dears.

NieA_7 is pretty bad, but DearS is worse. My god, you're a glutton for punishment...

Niea isn't even a slice of life really since it's chock full of tons of unresolved sci-fi questions.....it's like you keep watching and waiting for THE JUMPOFF when shows usually get going but it NEVER COMES....NEVER. Niea under 7 is apty named because it takes under 7 minutes to want to turn it off.......

Yeah I know. It's hard to find good series of the genre I'm interested in that have an English dub. I got Kannagi recently which should be right up my alley, but I haven't watched it because it's Eng sub, I watch anime at night, but I avoid reading at night. Oh well, this is a good lesson in researching before buying :)

I finished up Hidamari Sketch today. It was an OK show, but not really my cup of tea.

It basically shows little snippets (one episode will take place during one day, like July 18th) out of the lives of the main characters, showing how they interact and grow. It also shows the growing friendship amongst the 4 girls.

The show also has a lot of trippy moments since the show has a lot of art elements.

See? I warned you that this would happen. Again: don't listen to them. It's fantastic, and it is a slice-of-life show.

I just finished watching Berserk and the first volume of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I am planning on starting a new anime today but I'm not quite sure which one.
give me some series that have "good" endings as in main plot point is resolved with majority of loose ends tied up. why is this so rare in anime?
Ahem, you just described Kurau's ending. I also suggest Erin the Beast Player.
give me some series that have "good" endings as in main plot point is resolved with majority of loose ends tied up. why is this so rare in anime?
Most anime are based on ongoing manga, and the studio doesn't want to deviate too much from the manga's currently non-existent ending... partly to escape the ire of the fanbase, but mostly to leave things open for a sequel. Gotta be ready to put out more if it gets popular!

"Good" endings : Baccano, Code Geass, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, Monster, Gankutsuo, Fushigi Yuugi, GTO, Trigun, Blood+, Onegai Teacher, Outlaw Star, Escaflowne, DNA2, Hellsing, Chobits, Houshin Engi, Black Cat, Flame of Rekka, Samurai 7, Black Lagoon, Welcome to NHK!, Busou Renkin, Record of Lodoss War

I think all of those series resolve at least the arc they're on at the end of the series...

Berserk, Hunter X Hunter, and D. Grayman all come to mind as unfinished properties.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Outlaw Star boxsets? There appear to be at least 2, if not 3.

Also, do I want to watch Angel Links?
This is terrible: Satoshi Kon has passed away.
I just read that, and froze up for a minute when I did.

If anyone out there has not seem a Satoshi Kon movie, go rent one now. The man was a genius, and the world of anime will suffer without him.
This is terrible: Satoshi Kon has passed away.
I'm very sorry to hear this happened and I agree that the world of anime has just lost a great artist. I hope this doesn't effect The Dream Machine, I was anticipating that for a while.

On a side note, I've been watching Gundam 00

I absolutely agree. I'm gonna re-watch Tokyo Godfathers tonight, and I just bought Perfect Blue, Memories, and Paprika, since I'd like to watch them again as well. I'll have to wait on Millennium Actress, though, since its price has inflated quite a lot, and hopefully Funimation rescues Paranoia Agent, since that's Kon's only work that I haven't seen.

In celebration of him I am going to watch either Perfect Blue or Tokyo Godfathers tonight. Do you have a favorite movie by him Razzuel?

I really, really liked Magnetic Rose from Memories, and I loved Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers. I would place Paprika next, and Millennium Actress would be last, but I need to re-watch Millennium Actress, since I made the mistake of watching it really late at night when I was very tired.

So my favorite work of his would be between Magnetic Rose, Perfect Blue, and Tokyo Godfathers, though I'm not sure if I could just pick one, haha.

I have yet to see Magnetic Rose, I will definitely need to check that out.

Very sad, Kon was my favorite director. I know some people are wary about it, but I thought Paranoia Agent was genius. I'd been looking forward to his new movie as well. Hopefully they give it to someone like Urasawa to complete in his memory.

I started watching Highschool of the Dead. I'm only up to episode 4 but it seems like a Romero movie, minus all the panty shots and jiggly boob shots. I'll most likely keep watching. It kinda makes me want to start reading Dragon Head again.

Wow, I'm surprised Kon died at such a young age. The only film of his that I've seen is Tokyo Godfathers, and I thought it was very good. I guess I'll have to check out some of his other stuff, too.

I often point out Perfect Blue as evidence anime isn't all giant robots and panty shots.

Kon was pretty brilliant and deserved 100x the credit of hacks like Miyazaki.

Jeez, I come home from my camping trip and see that Satoshi Kon passed away. Incredibly sad, everything he touched turned to gold.

I'll be surprised if you don't get "disciplined" for this post. I've gotten in trouble for less. Kon is the most talented film maker in Japan as far as I'm concerned. Miyazaki is just an over-budgeted hippy.

Yeah, I admit I overreacted to your (unfathomably retarded) statement, sorry about that. Still, calling Miyazaki a "hack" shows your complete absence of appreciation for film. I'm sad for you.

might have had this discussion before, but what is the "best" animated work. as in, quality of the animation itself. fluid with great detail without going into a rotoscoped look. opinions obviously. anything goes (series, movies, etc.)

burst angel is really good animation. ive only seen a couple of anime so it may not be in the top of the real anime fans. haha
I had a friend who used to say the FLCL was the most amazing animation ever.
I agree, FLCL has great animation. I think GiTS SAC is also among the best animated of series (that grammar sounds off, but I didn't want to say "best animated series" when talking trying to highlight its animation).

Probably the best animation is in a movie though, kind of like how hollywood movies look better than tv shows.

Posts have been deleted....BUT THE SOUL STILL BURNS

So nearly done with Honey & Clover. It's weird how completely unbelievable everything regarding Morita is. It really comes outta nowhere.

I know this is an Anime thread, but did anyone read the latest Bleach chapter? Finally the battle they've been leading up to for years is about to take place. Bad ass.

I'm still wondering what's going on with Byakuya and Kenpachi. Are they still fighting each other/Yammy or are we skipping over that like the inner hollow fight that just went down?

It's actually the anime & manga thread.

Personally I thought the latest Reborn! chapter was a preview of some sweet bad assery to come, but no one read Reborn! but me.
