Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Is Strike Witches the show where the 3 sister live in a trailer or something and they hire a guy to be their cook and then shit happens? Cuz I saw an episode or two of that. It wasn't bad at all...
it has to be quite cold without pants, but this issue never arises.
I know you didn't do this on purpose, but
So I've finished the first Semester/Season of School Rumble as well as the Extra Class/OVAs and wow. I love this series. It's the first anime that's actually made me laugh out loud since I first watched Azumanga Diaoh.

Imadori and Harima ftw!
Finally watching it :)

Yes, it's one of the only LOL anime's I've seen. Go watch Season 2, it gets even better, and the first OP of the second season (Sentimental Generation) is one of my favorites from any series.

I'll probably write a Blog from everything at Otakon, but it was a very fun weekend, saw a lot. Also saw some things that no man should really ever see, but it comes with the territory I guess...

No, that's Burst Angel. Strike Witches is about pantless teenage catgirls with jet-engine legs who fight aliens. ;)

See, on paper, it sounds like the best thing ever made.
Looking forward to your blog too (I already posted mine, but should have explained more, haha). :D

I did purchase Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood on blu-ray recently (preordered the next boxset along with it). Looking forward to watching it.

holy shit...that is the most ridiculous thing i've seen that isn't just supposed to be some kinda joke.

So close! You almost had it! When the witches use their Striker units, each witch uniquely gains features from a specific animal, such as Mio gains the features of a Doberman, Perrine gains the features of a Chartreux, and Lynette gains the features of a Scottish Fold.

I know, I know- but 'anthramorphic' just didn't seem like the right term to use for my over-simplified explaination, so I went for the basic visual effect- after all, they mostly all look like cat ears at least.

Pretty random topic change- anybody besides me like to go real old-school on their anime? I ask becuase, on a whim, I thought I'd see if I could find a copy of Magic Boy, the US dub of Shonen Sarutobi Sasuke (circa 1961)... but it's never been on DVD or VHS. I guess it aired on TCM back in 2003, but that's about it. Anybody else out there like this ancient stuff and know where I can download/bootleg/otherwise get a copy? (Not gonna hold my breath, but, y'know.)

Tokyopop why must you play games with me? I know you will never release the fourth FMP novel...
Yup, and it was *terrible*, too.
I never bothered to check it out.
and Evangelion if Viz ever releases the next fucking volume.
Maybe I'm wrong but isn't the NGE manga still going on in Japan? at least it was the last time I checked.
Anyone after one of those Code Geass LE boxset that Best Buy has for $10? There are two available locally. Be warned, they're heavy suckers. Shipping would not be cheap (unless it were media, I suppose).
Yeah I saw on of these at my Best Buy yesterday. Even though I'm not a fan, I was tempted to buy it just cuz it felt like they jammed a lot of stuff in there.

It is (currently on hiatus), but Viz is still a volume behind, and they're apparently releasing it in October.
Did you really not get the sarcasm?
I got yours but the vid seemed serious about their fighter jet legged schoolgirls with no pants. I just can't believe it exists.

DuelLady gets bigs up for being another WA person in the anime thread.

I don't really dig old school anime too much. I think stuff like Macross II and Robot Carnival are the oldest things I enjoyed, partly due to nostalgia.

So I'm almost caught up on One Piece. Man OP has a penchant for mayhem unlike any other shonen.

New to the thread. Any good Highschool of the Dead discussion? Lovin the show. Ep 5 was much better than the recap-like ep 4.
New to the thread. Any good Highschool of the Dead discussion? Lovin the show. Ep 5 was much better than the recap-like ep 4.
There isn't really much discussion going on. Probably because no one brings it up.

I've been enjoying the series a lot, but I feel like the episodes go by really quick and not too much gets accomplished. I'm really annoyed that the ending isn't at the end.

Also, the opening song is really awesome up until the singing starts.

The ending isn't at the end? I'm pretty sure the show ends with a black screen and credits. Oh you mean the song interlude thingy. Yeah I always skip that part.
I kind of like how there are very specific monumental events that happen per episode. At first we get an intro of the big cast and by the time we get to episode 3 we know who is what and we are ready to roll. It's just that ep 4 didn't take us anywhere aside from letting us know Rei and the boy on the bike are strengthening their trust for one another.
I have a hard time remembering names in animes cause I'm not used to Japanese (obviously) and I don't watch anime very often.
Lastly, I hope we run into the bus with the teacher again. I just want him to die a nice slow death.
I didn't even know Highschool of the Dead started...
Where have you been for the past month? We discussed the first two episode at least. How did you miss Raz complaining that large breasts are an insult to women?
Tokyopop why must you play games with me? I know you will never release the fourth FMP novel...
Except they recently announced that they are releasing the fourth and fifth novels together as one book in February.
There isn't really much discussion going on. Probably because no one brings it up.
I haven't discussed it recently, since I stopped watching it after episode two. I don't feel like paying for another online subscription for a service that doesn't offer enough exclusive shows that I want to see. Plus, I have a ton of DVDs that I need to watch.
How did you miss Raz complaining that large breasts are an insult to women?
Man, can't I just get a break already? Spreading misconceptions like that doesn't help anyone.

I should ask now. Is this thread anti stream sites? Cause I don't watch much tv and just go to my trusty anime site where I can pretty much find anything that interests me.

I do give you breaks. There have been at least 2 posts that you made in the righstuf thread in the past 48 hours that I wanted to say something about, but I decided not to. :whistle2:#

Are you talking about a site where you have to pay like crunchyroll? Or a site where you get it for free and it's probably illegal?
I'm pretty anti-streaming in general (although, I'm a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to netflix). But, if it's a site where you get it for free, it's probably against the rules of the site to talk about it.
I'm not even sure what you're referring to. Can you elaborate?
Yeah. I generally am clueless about when animes air and such and aside from sports/documentaries I rarely watch TV. So I go to streaming sites that feature animes at no price. I noticed you stopped watching HOTD because of some subscription issue. So that's why I was curious if the people in this thread will be anti streaming sites.
EDIT: I don't know if the place I visit is legit or not but it looks pretty well done with a forum and chat room being part of the site. They never seemed to have issues of being taken down or anything that would make it seem like companies were out to get them.

I was referring to The Anime Network, which used to be owned by a subsidiary of ADV Films, but they were recently sold to Valkryie Media Partners. The Anime Network offers much of ADV Films and Sentai Filmworks' catalog. The first two episodes of a show are free to watch, and any subsequent episodes are for subscribers only. The only shows right now that I'd watch on The Anime Network are High School of the Dead and Maid-sama, which happen to be The Anime Network's two currently airing shows that they have the streaming rights for, but those aren't enough to justify the subscription price for me.

Condering there's a post on the last page where you complain about girls not wearing pants..... maybe.

Anyway, I was talking with resident CAG TMK yesterday and I got an urge to watch Eva. Now, I have 1.11 on Bluray and haven't watched it yet. So I'm wondering, should I watch that, rewatch the series, or do both together? I mean, i might be interesting to watch the anime and the reboot movies at the same time, and see what has changed. Like how my dear Asuka is now Ms Shikinami. :whistle2:s

I didn't see that. But I saw it listed for it on Rightstuf. All I can say is I'll believe it when I see it. Still I have very little faith in them doing all the novels...

NGE is too depressing for me to watch again. I would say wait to watch 1.11 for when 2.22 comes to theaters (confirmed at Otakon), which is probably what i'll do. That way I'm not left hanging for a couple months waiting for the second movie.
I should ask now. Is this thread anti stream sites? Cause I don't watch much tv and just go to my trusty anime site where I can pretty much find anything that interests me.
I wouldn't say that. I love Crunchyroll and I think getting a couple of shows each season as they air in Japan is worth my $60 a year. But we all know that many people are watching anime illegally (I'm sure you are too).

Generally, I just watched DVD's, but now I'm watching shows on Crunchyroll as well. For the most part, I'd rather not watch fansubs. It doesn't help the industry at all, it's sometimes a pain to find good fansubs, and I've encountered a lot of broken links and hard-to-find episodes (especially for Fairy Tail, which I may or may not be watching illegally).

Also, mostly to Chibi, the odds of me buying & rewatching a series I've already seen for free (which, even though it's not free, includes Crunchyroll) is pretty slim. Unless it's amazing, I probably won't rewach a series, at least not in the near future. A show like High School of the Dead, I'm going to wait for the dubbed DVD release (which is already confirmed), because I know if I watch it now then I'll probably never get the DVD. A show like Giant Killing, which I'm watching now, I'll never buy. It's decent, but not worth watching twice. And who am I kidding, what are the odds it even reaches America?

For the record, that's not always true, as I will be buying Durarara!! when it comes out with a dub in January, but that's an amazing show so it's fine.

What's your point? I do things my way, you do things your way.I never said your way was wrong. High School of the Dead is the only show I've watched as it's airing in Japan since Denno Coil, I think. That was 2007. Other than that, the only fansubs I've watched are things that aren't available in the US (Streaming or otherwise). And, I prefer to just own the DVDs. There are some series where I own the DVDs and VHS fansubs still. So, paying for streaming doesn't make sense to me because if I did see a show I liked, I'd end up buying the DVDs anyway.

I didn't say it was wrong, we just do it differently.

Really? The first show you want to watch as it's airing in three years is High School of the Dead?

Sorry, I laughed a little bit .

We are just talking about shows in here for the most part. I honestly don't care where anyone watches it. It's not germane to the discussion of a show really. If you can tolerate the collectors discussing such and such DVD deal then you'll be just fine. I'm pretty vocal about how little I care for the American anime market and I'm still here (despite Kirin Lemon's numerous protests).

Name 5 good shows from the past 3 years.

Upon doing more research, I don't think I watched a single show that was made in 2009. I was almost going to say 2008 too, but True Tears aired Jan-March 2008, and I think that's the most recent show I've seen all the way through. Lucky Star and Baccano! came out in 2007, and I just watched them for the first time in the past couple months.
Name 5 good shows from the past 3 years.
Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit
Spice and Wolf
Toradora!

Durarara!!

(Okay fine, I've only seen Durarara!! out of all of those, and it took quite awhile just to get 5. You win?)

I didn't realize a lot of the best shows came out 2003-2007. I guess since I only became an anime fan less than two years ago, it seems like a lot of good shows have "come out" recently even though they haven't.

Oo! I did see that one as it was airing in Japan. Forgot all about it.

I was so excited for it, and it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Maybe I blocked it from my memory.

So, I guess since I actually have watched a show as it aired in Japan more recently, you win?

Actually, a lot of the best shows came out pre-2000.

But, yeah, when I was looking up dates, I thought they came out more recently then they actually had.

Thank you. I knew there had to be a lot of recent-good shows, but I haven't been watching that many yet as I usually wait for a dubbed released, which sometimes takes a few years. In fact, the only two shows I've seen on this list are Eve no Jikan and Heroman, and both of them are good, but I wouldn't really recommend them.

Heroman starts off really badly, and that killed the show for me for awhile. Lately, it's actually gotten really good, but that's also due to the fact that it was so bad in the beginning, so by comparison his looks good (or maybe it really is getting good?).

Eve no Jikan I watched because prarie (who disappeared) loved it. I really didn't think it was that special. It had amazing quality animation, but the overall story was "meh".

CCS is too expensive to get on DVD, so I'll wait for an (unlikely) rerelease. I really do want to watch it, though.

Never even heard of Marmalade Boy before, and other than that I probably couldn't name one of your "dozens of other things" unless they have the word "Gundam" in them.

Thumbs up!

I finally finished "Neon Genesis Evangelion." I always start the series but never seem to find time to finish it, always restarting it. I decided to stick in between episodes of "K-ON!!" to add some drama to my anime viewings. And, of course, EVA was a mindfuck just like everyone said it would be.

Also, I started watching "Ergo Proxy."

And...
I'm at the point where the scouts kill the little boy outside the dome. And Pino complains to his mom that the boy will not talk to her, or give her book back. Not actually realizing he is dead. I feel so bad for Pino. Yes, she isn't human, but I find I feel sympathy for her anyway.

You're probably aware of it because of Tokyopop's release of it. I loved that anime, though. DAMN YOU, now you have me looking up the prices of those on amazon, I would really like to get the prices for 1 & 2 but not too crazy on the 3 & 4 prices. Though, amazon themselves appears to be selling the collections of volumes 1 and 2 together and 3 and 4 together for decent prices. DAMN YOU AMAZON.

I think everyone needs to watch the Wolverine anime trailer just to see how bad it is. Then watch the Iron Man to see how awesome Iron Man is.

Marmelade Boy was like every guy's secret shame. A shoujo so unapologetically about love dodecahedrons, yet it was able to captivate many shonen fans.
