Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!
Sounds like the description he gave was that of KareKano too. Of course, that's another amazing anime.
No, the description was definitely of Marmalade Boy. My friend and I once mapped out all the love triangles in the series. It's pretty insane.

I think he just got the name confused and probably meant Ginta.

Oh! Since you said the whole fuck Yuu thing, I assumed you were talking about one of Miki's other love interests. Not one of the other girls interested in Yuu.

man 20 year old me had a lot of empathy for the whole ginta and arimi thing. i might have to introduce my wife to marmelade boy someday.

For months I've been telling myself I need to rewatch Marmalade Boy, but it's so hard to get the motivation for a 70+ episode series. I originally watched it on VHS fansubs, bought the DVDs and have yet to watch them.

What have I done....

That $60 on eBay is pretty good though, but over 70 episodes? The longest anime I've seen so far is FullMetal Alchemist, and that just flew by.

The longest anime I've seen all of is One Piece. I caught up last night at ep 460.
You're probably not going to see anything longer unless you're into Doraemon or Sanae-san...

Or Urusei Yatsura... I'd watch this show just to see how it got popular enough to go that long... EDIT: apparently it's only under 200 episodes... @_@ And I thought that was long.

As a side note, I kinda want to watch this, simply because the cover art is awesome.

Pani Poni Dash is pretty damn funny, but forewarning, its an azumanga daioh clone (like best student council, only funny).

Hey, hey, hey! Watch it, bub! Best Student Council is awesome!

it's a very funny show, but yes, VERY similar to Azu Daioh, eerily so.

Pani Poni Dash, to me, was- take Azumanga Daioh, add 20 CCs of Excel Saga. I remember not being sure if I should buy it, so I looked it up on Youtube. I saw a Planet of the Apes spoof, a very sad rabbit with no digits, and a cat living in a soda machine calling himself God. When the hyper girl crashed into the 'camera' and broke it, I turned the clip off- and immedately bought the DVD. I'm very happy with my decision.

Finished Soul Eater last night, and it was awesome! Add it to the list of good series that came out in the past 3 years. I'll have to check out the rest of the manga (read the first two volumes before starting the anime) too see if it goes in a different direction.

-Edit-
Started Kenichi to replace the Soul Eater timeslot. Only two episodes in but so far it seems like it will be a fun series.

Pretty sure I know where Razzuel has been working lately. Just got this email:

I finally watched Death Note fully for once. I really liked it and found it quite interesting (and different). Can't say its my #1 favorite, but definitely a top 10.

Next up I will try to finish up Code Geass LTR (not R2 one).

As for Soul Eater, I will get into it more in the near future.

You're pretty forgiving. I found the end of SE to be a disappointment.
I would watch more if it came out and hope things get better.

Kenichi was one of the only mangas I've read in recent years, and I just got bored. I appreciate it has some real martial arts (Muy Thai) in it, but it also portrays a lot of terrible stuff like Kung-Fu as effective. Also the near hentai-esque levels of fan service turned me off completely. I haven't watched much of the show so maybe its better.

More episodes would have been great, but given the amount of episodes they made I think they wrapped things up as much as they could. The manga is still ongoing so I will make sure to check it out for a more fully flushed out story. I guess that's the usual case though... the anime always cuts short the story from the manga, so it's a matter of getting in as much of the story as possible given as many episodes as they are budgeted to create.

Yeah, the fan service is a bit much in Kenichi, but I'm still enjoying it. The focus on how the fighting works and how Kenichi progresses keeps me coming back.

Speaking of hentai-ish levels of fan service, I started Hanaukyo. I keep buying series without checking them out first. This series is basically shota-con (did I say that right?) about a 12 year old boy who inherits a mansion and all of its beautiful maids, and like half of the maids are always trying to rape him.

That anime is the quintessential example of a harem show to me.
I find that sort of thing aggravating as hell.

It's not a shota-con because it's not a showcase for portraying 14 year old boys as sex objects, but rather a 14 year old boy and a showcase for sexy girls.
I'm almost done with School Rumble. I don't want it to end :(
I remember that feeling like it was yesterday...

Good call. It's just kinda creepy to see adult maids lusting over a 12yo (well, if I were him I wouldn't mind, but from the third person it's weird).
I got past the first 2 episodes and they've dialed down the nudity. I'm going to finish the series since I already bought it.

The anime leaves off the story at a good stopping point, but there should be plenty more story in the manga (which has already finished in Japan, but still not fully released in the US). I wish they had gone ahead with the third anime season, but for whatever reason they only made the final two episodes and then stopped. I don't want to see them cause I rather get the full story from the manga then skip through the majority of the third season.

I've rewatched Schoorum probably more than any other anime... I'll probably start it up again once I finish rewatching Lucky Star :)
Full Metal Alchemist. Worth watching? Do I watch the original or Brotherhood?
Definitely, and watch both. Original first, since Brotherhood takes some of the early parts of the original series and blows through them without regard for proper pacing.
Is the School Rumble manga vastly different from the anime? Or is basically the same give or take a little bit?
I have only read the first 2 volumes (I watch multiple anime series at a time, but only one manga, currently Negima) and from what I've read the anime follows the manga pretty well. The humor is delivered better in the manga since there are footnotes that help bridge the subtleties lost from the Jap-to-Eng translation. And from what I have read there is more content in the manga (like the stuff from the ova's is integrated correctly in the manga). Also, since the manga is already done, you can eventually find out the real ending since the anime doesn't finish the story.

I'm looking forward to reading the Schoorum manga. I think vol 14-16 were recently released in the US. There are a total of 22 volumes, so we still have a ways to go to finish the series here.
Schoorum
Is that an accepted abbreviation or did you make that up? Because it might be the worst thing ever.

Abbreviation used within the Schoorum anime, maybe the manga too.

Whoo! Waiting paid off! 5 Centimeters per Second is getting another US DVD release! (Crunchyroll actually licensed it for DVD release)

Awesome, it's a good film. I'm more than satisfied with my ADV release, but it's nice that other people will have the chance to pick this up.

Yay, been wanting to see this.

I got to watch Berserk over the weekend. It was pretty awesome.

Also, will crunchy be releasing 5 Centimeters per Second on Blu-Ray? I have the original ADV release, but would love to see it in high def.
Started watching Honey and Clover this weekend. I'm not sure how I feel about it. The adult romance situations are compelling but right in the middle of that is this loli that I'm supposed to buy is 18 years old. I can't buy her as the target of an adult's romantic notions at all.
Hagu was my one problem with Honey and Clover as well. I don't understand how anybody would be attracted to such a pathetic woman. It's less love and more "Oh, let's protect the wounded deer!" But that aside, Honey and Clover is *really* good.

Right and why I can maybe buy the main character as a "White Knight" type, I just don't understand why the author drew her 3.5 feet tall.
Full Metal Alchemist. Worth watching? Do I watch the original or Brotherhood?
One of the best anime ever, in fact. Both should definitely be watched.

I saw, definitely picking it up since the ADV release is a little too hard to get ahold of. Great movie, and I'm not a fan of most anime movies. Probably my favorite.

Berserk was a great anime, strange ending though. Wish I had the patience to read the manga, but at this point I don't think I'll ever read it.

Berserk really disappointed me at the end...and since I started on ep 2 I had no idea the entire series was a flashback so I was super-surprised. I would much rather watch the show it was for the whole first arc rather than the show it became.

I once checked into the manga and read some synopsis and it seems like the author is all out of quality ideas.

I finished watching the second Gurren Lagann movie, The Lights in the Sky are Stars, a couple days ago. The first Gurren Lagann movie should have got the same treatment that the second movie got; there are meaningful changes to the story and the pacing that makes the second half of the Gurren Lagann story work as a movie. The Lights in the Sky are Stars actually has transitions between scenes, which helps a lot. My favorite part of the movie was the last fight; the final battle is changed and extended compared to the TV show's final battle, and they are changes for the better — I actually think all of the changes in the movie are for the better, but
Nia still dies at the end, which still pisses me off. It feels like everything that Simon did was in vain because Nia dies. Dammit, she should of lived!

I definitely liked the movie version of the second half of Gurren Lagann's story more than the TV show version, which is why I recommend the movie to anyone who likes Gurren Lagann. The Lights in the Sky are Stars is worth a purchase, or at the very least, you should rent it.

im currently watcihing burst angel. Really good so far (watched first 2 eps) and just ordered the second volume from amazon.

Finished Hanaukyou. It wasn't the worst anime I've seen, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The series starts out ecchi, then turns to harem, then ends with drama... it's like the devs couldn't pick a genre and stick with it. I might start Niea Under 7 next.

Half way through Kenichi and enjoying it. They throw in just the right amount of new characters to keep the story entertaining.

I finally watched all episodes of Eureka SeveN. So good, easily my favorite anime of all time. I ended up crying when I saw
Renton getting the chance to talk to his Dad and sis in episode 48)
and other scenes.

I have yet to see the movie, but I'm going to go ahead and buy it despite mixed reactions. Now I gotta decide which anime I'll watch next in my collection. I'm going through one box set per week.

What do you have left?
What do you have left?
This is what I have sitting in my collection now left:
.Hack//SIGN Collection (I've seen a bunch of episodes, but never the whole thing)
Fate/Stay Night
Full Metal Alchemist Season 1 Boxset
Full Metal Alchemist Season 2 Boxset
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 1 (Blu-ray) Boxset
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 2 (Blu-ray) Boxset (Arriving this week)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season 1 (seen a bunch of episodes, never the whole thing)
Gundam Seed Destiny Collection 1 (I'm a huge Gundam Seed/Gundam fanboy, so I need to see it)
Gundam Seed Destiny Collection 2
Gundam Seed Destiny Final Mix+
Gundam Wing Collection 1 (seen most all episodes, but missed a few)
Gurren Lagann Complete Season

All the rest I have I went through completely. I still need to pick up more such as finding Code Geass Lelouch The Rebellion Part III (already have part I and II boxsets)

I should be getting Soul Eater boxsets, Lucky Star, HunterXHunter, Kenshin, and a bunch of others I haven't completely seen (I want Naruto and Bleach boxsets, but there's so many to buy/watch which is why I'm holding back).

The reason for me not seeing every episode of some animes is due to limited funds in college early on/high school (when I was heavy into watching anime), I watched what I could on TV, but some episodes got missed. I just got back into anime again, and there's a lot I would like to go through.

I finished Pumpkin Scissors yesterday. I enjoyed the setting of the show (very much like Valkyria Chronicles), and the characters were good, too.

The only big time negative against the show is the fact that the ending isn't really the end. There was still a lot left to be resolved, and the show could definitely use another season, although I doubt that is going to happen.

Even without a true ending it's still worth watching.

I'll most likely be watching Negima! next. Anyone know if I should watch the Spring and Summer OVAs before I watch the show itself?
