Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!
Ah I see, thanks for the responses. I like opening/closings based on how well the animation represents the series; of course good animation is almost always tied to good music.

I listen to a lot of anime ost's (while programming), my favs are:
FLCL
GiTS SAC
Eureka Seven
Cowboy Bebop
Evangelion
Samurai Champloo
R.O.D. -The TV-
random singles from various series
Excellent taste in music. Those are most of my favorite OST's as well.

Played up to the first decision in Kira Kira so far, and it's not bad. Definitely feels like an anime/manga, except reading it in a story/dialogue format. I guess that's the point.
I also appreciate the music aspect of it. Some of the lines made me laugh. Like when they refer to RnB as
"black music,"
for example. I lol'd.
I just got Lucky Star - my wife watched 5 minutes of it, and I'm pretty sure it's going to become one of her favorite shows.

I really like the animation style.
I just watched Lucky Star (all episodes). I like the animation, but I wasn't a huge fan. Doesn't really suit my anime liking.

Right now I'm trying to finish up the last few DVD boxsets before moving to all my blu-rays I've gotten. I still got both Ghost in the Shell: SAC anime legends boxsets, RahXephon, and Noein left.

I did preorder K-On Vol. 1 and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time on blu-ray from Rightstuf.

Recently I finished watching Summer Wars, Evangelion 2.22, and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.

Summer Wars was absolutely amazing. It's easily one of my favorite movies. I really enjoyed the technological slant, and I was able to relate to Kenji, the main character, since he's computer savvy like me. Also, there are a ton of characters and they're all fantastic. The English dub was really good too.

I was expecting to love Evangelion 2.22, but I didn't; I was expecting the same fervor that I felt after watching Summer Wars, but the movie never reached that height for me. I was expecting more Asuka and an explanation of the new child, Mari, but neither of those are provided. I also didn't like some of the changes from the TV series. Other than that, it was a pretty awesome movie.

It's entirely a coincidence that I just watched Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, but that's beside the point. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is now one of my favorite series. I had heard it was good, and I even had something extremely significant spoiled accidentally, but it was phenomenal. The situation and the characters felt very real. I was even able to relate to Mirai, the main character. It's a very touching story, and I was even sobbing at the end. I'm surprised it hasn't been licensed yet.
anything new good (violent) this season?
Good? Yes, this has actually been the best anime season in years for quality shows. Violent? No, not a thing.

Anyone else following Madoka Magica? It's been the gem of the winter season imo. Hoping the last two episodes come out soon and that the ending doesn't suck.

Umm.... I was told about a new magical girl anime, and its super violent from what I understand.
One girl lost her fight and lost her head.

Really? It doesn't seem like this season has more quality shows than the seasons last year or the year before. I've been following Beelzebub, Dragon Crisis, Fairy Tail, Fractale, Hourou Musuko, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka, Level E, Madoka Magica, and Mitsudomoe 2.

I was following Gosick, but it's too painful to watch. I read the first two novels — the only ones that have been released here so far — and they were really good, especially the first book. The anime butchered the first book, which is the first three episodes of the anime, and that's also where I stopped. There are too many changes to source material that it's an extremely weaker story, and I don't like how they're cramming all the novels into one season. Hopefully Tokyopop releases the rest of the novels over here because I'd hate to have to watch the inferior version of the story to know how it continues and ultimately ends.

I heard Freezing and Infinite Stratos were pretty awful, so I never tried them; I might give them a try one day though just to see. Also, since Yumekui Merry got licensed, I'm waiting for it to get released over here.
What shows this season are amazing then?
I'd say Level E is the best show this season. Almost all of the episodes have been amazing, except for episode 11 — it was pretty boring.
Anyone else following Madoka Magica? It's been the gem of the winter season imo. Hoping the last two episodes come out soon and that the ending doesn't suck.
I've been watching it, though I have yet to see episode 10, since I'm just gonna wait until the rest of the show is released. Hopefully it's not suspended for too long. It's a good show, but I'm not enamored with it. I find it very interesting and unique with its dark themes, but I feel disconnected from it.
Umm.... I was told about a new magical girl anime, and its super violent from what I understand. Spoiler spoiler spoiler.
Uhhhhhh, that's a pretty big spoiler. Anyway, it's not super violent. Madoka Magica is incredibly dark and depressing though.

Following most of the same shows as you. Most of them are pretty decent but like you said I don't think there's any more quality shows than other seasons. Hoping Fractale finishes strong as it started out interesting but fell kind of flat for me after awhile.

Oh, episode 10 was the best episode yet. Hope you manage to avoid the spoilers as it created a bit of buzz. I think it was done really well. Anyway, yeah, the show isn't for everyone but I just love the darker themes. I have a friend who refuses to even watch it because it's an all girl cast.

I agree, I would hardly call Madoka super violent or even violent. The manga looks a little gruesome though.

Isn't Level E kind of an old manga by the same guy that made Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter? It should go without saying that that would be awesome.

It can't be that big of a spoiler if it didn't even say who it happened to.

Well, I started Madoka Magica since Darker than Black's 2nd season blows so far -- and yeah, it seems super depressing.

My question is though (no spoilers), if the little dude is offering any wish you can imagine and that one girl is considering helping that boy in the hospital -- why not just ask for a power that would heal anyone she touches? Hell, anyone she even thought about.

I guess I'm bothered because they haven't gone over the limitations of what you can wish for, and I suppose I shouldn't be bothered by that and just accept the show. But a premise like this is something I feel like any kid could day dream up in class, the only problem is it's bound to be full of loop holes

Yeah, I've been pretty disappointed with Fractale. The writing is very poor. There's not enough exposition and whoever wrote the script doesn't know how to transition between story scenes/elements, which results in the everything feeling rushed. Nessa is really cute, but that alone isn't enough to care about what's happening.

Really now? Hmm, maybe I'll have to watch episode 10 now rather than later.
It can't be that big of a spoiler if it didn't even say who it happened to.
Well, I consider it a spoiler, since I was utterly shocked when it happened in the show. It's definitely not something you're expecting when watching the show — or at least I wasn't expecting it.

Don't know about anyone else, but the winter season had some pretty mediocre shows. I dropped most of them 1-2 episodes in(Freezing was the worst one) and only stuck with Dragon Crisis & Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka.

I don't know why I stuck with Dragon Crisis, as it fell apart a few episodes in. It completely rushed the ending and ends with a typical harem ending. Kore wa Zombie was actually entertaining, even though it jumped around halfway through. It had some unique comedy to it and wasn't too serious. Not too thrilled on the final episode(it's already aired in japan & is on youtube). But it's nice that it ends hinting at another season.

As for the next season, it seems to be more harem shows than anything coming out. There's only one that I'm looking forward to, which is Maria+Holic Alive. Between now & then, hopefully I'll be able to finish Full Metal Panic & FMP: TSR.

Well, I decided to watch episode 10 of Madoka, and you're absolutely right. It is the best episode thus far; it was absolutely stunning. I'm definitely excited for the final two episodes now.

Yeah, Dragon Crisis is not good. I mean, I enjoyed the Maruga arc, the Ai arc, and the horror-movie-esque episode a fair amount, but everything else just sucks. It's not well-written, the story and its characters are trite, and Rose is awful. I was cringing during episode 10 when Rose was
in heat
, and I wanted to vomit during the
kiss between Ryuuji and Rose that was followed by a heart-shaped love explosion which managed to disintegrate Onyx
in the final episode.

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka is good. It has its moments where it's funny, and the action can be pretty exciting, but some inconsistencies, some of the writing, and the fanservice prevents it from becoming something more than just good.

I plan to start Evangelion 2.22 sometime soon. I just got it yesterday, but need to wtach 1.11 first.

This could be a taboo question so set me strait if it is. Anyways I'm trying to find torrents of One Piece episodes past #425 but not having any luck. Any idea where I can get them?

Hmm, searching around it seems an easy way to do it is search by episode so start with 426, find torrent then so on and so on. Tedious but I can't find any batch files

Nevermind here is the big one http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=192750

Thanks, I'm new and fairly ignorant when it comes to torrents. This helps a lot. I tried doing a search for single episodes but every single one I found had been taken down for a violation or something.

Caught up on Kiss x Sis manga (currently 46 chapters). (spoiler since this is an adult series)
It is a pretty funny series with great character design. The level of adult content is the middle ground between to-LOVE-ru and My Balls, definitely not something for kids. The bulk of the comedy is based on the male protagonist trying to resist the advances of his non-blood-related twin stepsisters, whom he tries to see as just sisters but over time the that line wears thin. It's not just pervy humor though, there is real love between the main characters which keeps me reading.

About 10 episodes into Flame of Recca. Had never seen or read it before. I don't think it aged as well as other 90's anime, personally I think Yu Yu Hakusho which came out years before Flame of Recca stands the test of time much better. I think it's the lack of character attachment, you don't watch the characters develop. They go from weak to awesome without a struggle. Maybe it gets better, I'll watch till the end.

It's taboo depending on the series and where you live. If you live in the US, One Piece anime is licensed here and torrents are easy to track, be careful. I read about some publisher recently going after the torrents of a particular episode of a popular shounen anime series, can't remember the specifics but they were trying to get the tracked ips so they could pursue the people who downloaded it.

You could watch One Piece on http://www.onepieceofficial.com/, since it's, you know, Funimation's official One Piece streaming website.
streaming is ok but a lot of us use media centers and such that aren't compatible with streaming sites.
Is it really that much of an inconvenience that you can't watch it on your computer?

Also, I understand that Funimation is still behind the times with streaming, but what about Crunchyroll though? With media center devices like the Roku and the Boxee, you can watch the latest episodes of Naruto and Bleach on your TV rather than your computer.

Now you can't make the same excuse for those shows.

Really, 10 episodes in and you think they go from weak to awesome without a struggle? This is much worse in Yu Yu Hakusho. Kuwabara is a perfect example of this. He randomly get the power to make an aura sword which later on randomly gets the power to slice trough dimensions. His analog in Flame of Recca is Domon who has no real powers other than his hulking strength.

He didn't get the dimension slicing thing until about episode 70, it wasn't that quick.
i recently finish'd the series. and the ending left me disappointed....
The anime? If so they started making ovas for some of the battles in the manga.

I think he's referring to Kuwabara suddenly going from "RAR I YOOS FIRE SWARD" to "RAR I SPLIT DIMUNSHUNS" in 2 episodes (yes, I mispelled those with internet memes on purpose)
The anime? If so they started making ovas for some of the battles in the manga.
yeah, the anime. Im gonna have to check it out sometime. do they continue where they left off with the series or a whole new side thing?

nah they skip some stuff
Is it really that much of an inconvenience that you can't watch it on your computer?
A little bit, but it's more to do with being comfortable in my case. My wife and I enjoy watching a few episodes during lunch or dinner. Also it's just nicer to relax and lounge on the couch accompanied by my surround system and big screen TV.

At least in Yu Yu Hakusho all the characters train and struggle at some point. (Yu Yu Hakusho spoiler)
Kuwabara almost died in the Genkai tournament, at that time he could barely make a sword and only when using an object to help him focus. He had spiritual abilities from birth, and they progress at a decent speed throughout the series.
The characters in Flame of Recca get strong really quick and the only trigger needed is having a special item and getting pissed off. Maybe they progress better in the manga.

watching shows on a computer isn't something a grown-up does in his home.

If you want to legally watch the latest anime on your living room tv then make your own media center box. I set up one of these:
http://global.shuttle.com/product_detail.jsp?PI=1461
Powerful little bastard, especially at video decoding. I think the total cost was like $350 (barebones hw + ssd + ram + ir remote/receiver). Put whatever os you want, connect it to your tv, and you got yourself full streaming capability in your living room.

I don't use mine for media streaming though, it's my workhorse for research projects. Since all the anime I watch is purchased dvd's I use a samba server + popcorn hour.

Hey Carnage and JimmyJim, how much Air Gear anime has been released? I only have the first season on DVD and always hoped they would release more.

i have a laptop dedicated to my living room rig but he was asking me to watch it on a computer presumably at my desk/lap.

I think it was either 24episodes or 26. Check myanimelist.net
That's where I go to see episode listing and check if eng dub was made.
But if you meant dvd release, not quite sure. I usually stream them since I spend all my money on games...

I am simply advocating official streams when possible because the creators deserve to be supported.

Where did he say if you stream something it has to be on a tiny monitor? I think you're just being a jerk for the sake of it.

The first season is the only one that has been released on DVD here. They have done a sequel in the form of a couple OVAs. Although they haven't been licensed here yet(since there are more OVAs on the way).
