Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Powered through several episodes of NHK and I like it. Around episode 18 right now. My only concern is the ending. I really don't want it to end without having a clear conclusion or some sense of closure. Like so many anime similar to this that just kind of fizzle out leaving me unsatisfied.
It has an ending that you should be satisfied with. I would've enjoyed the show more if Gonzo was able to keep the damn characters from going off model so much.

Well that's good to hear. As long as it's not like Watamote were the main character has almost no growth and is essentially the same character she was at the beginning. It was kind of a downer.

After hearing some buzz I gave Parasyte and Terra Formers a try. I like both. Parasyte reminds me of a diet Tokyo Ghoul.

That was kinda the point of Watamote tho, somebody trying to change but ultimately being unable to.

yeah, i am watching parasyte and terra formers too, plus Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis as well. the heavy censoring for terraformers is really bad tho, worst than tokyo ghoul. because the main appeal for terra formers is the gore, blood. i like that parasyte did not censor all the gore and blood.

One of my favorite moments in anime. If you haven't seen Kids on the Slope maybe spoilers.

Can't wait until Evangelion comes out.

Anyone watch the Captain Harlock CG movie yet?

edit: Harlock...duh!

Yeah, I still have a pre-order for Eva on Amazon. It needs a new release date first! And I think I have Harlock in my Netflix queue.

What's on everyone's que for this season? And let's not get all haughty. Just talk.

In no particular order I got:

Log Horizon - Not into it as much as last season. The harem love crap is killing it. Just show me Shiore being a badass.

Sword Art Online 2 - We're back to Elf land, yippee. I liked the guns more. I'll still watch it and probably like it (much to the dissmay of the snobbish anime community.)

Yowapeda - My favorite anime to watch. Look forward to it ever week. I haven't seen much sports anime but so far this is my favorite.

Ace of Diamond - It's in the big game now so things are getting heated. My wife has the same name as one of the characters so I get a kick every time someone says Wakana-chan

Akame ga Kill - I love the no mercy of this anime. More anime should kill main characters more often. One piece should kill off Nami. That'd be awesome. Kill em... kill em all.

One Piece - Catching up from a one year hiatus. The show is like a bag of chips, can't eat/watch one. Been steamrolling this for a week now and I'm around the Lucy arena part. 650+ episodes.... wow

Parasyte - It's gross, funny and has it's good fill of sex jokes. Migi turned into a penis and they censored it. I giggled like school girl. I love it... so far.

Terror in Resonance - Only watched the first 3 episodes. Hasn't grabbed me yet but I'll keep with it.

Detective Connan - So glad Crunchyroll added this to it's simulcast. I really hope they add some back episodes later. Watched this when Cartoon Networke aired like 10 years ago.

Terraformers - Human vs la cucaracha on Mars. It's super violent but the censorship killed it for me. I wanna see the gore. Thinking about dropping this one.

Finished haruhi. Fun show :D
Been about four years since I watched S1 of Haruhi. For what it is, it's not bad. I kind of wish S2 never existed but it had a few good episodes and I enjoyed the movie.

TiR - Watched 3 episodes too, lol. Yeah, something about this anime didn't stick to me either. The characters aren't very interesting and while it looks good, I feel like the anime doesn't even want to draw you in. I heard it doesn't get much better either. =/

Terraformers - My friend explained to me the premise while we were waiting in lines during Otakon. I remember him mentioning to me that an anime version would probably suck if it was made and behold, it happened and it's censored to death. I might check it out sooner or later. If it's on CR (I haven't checked) then they might put up a uncensored version once the blus hit. They did it with Jojo although that wasn't censored to death.

Detective Conan - It blows my mind on how long this anime has been on. I knew Funimation wouldn't finish it back when they licensed it so I'm glad CR at least grabbed it. I think I might drop in my queue but it will probably be like Gintama to me. I will never finish it but I'll watch when I'm bored or whatever.

Gintama is on my que as well but I only got to 12 episodes. It was okay but a bit too goofy

But I think Detective Connan will be different. I can watch it in short bursts. It's seems a case takes about 2-3 episodes (not sure about that) so it's perfect for an evening of mystery.

yeah, you two should just drop terror in resonance if you watched 3 episodes, and you still don't like it. when i watched the first episode for terror of resoance. i was interested in it, because it is going to stay that same style for the whole series

Every time I start playing a Dynasty  Warrior Gundam game I want to go and watch the source material.

But I can never find it anywhere. I know most of it never got released in the US.

Is there anywhere that has Turn A Gundam or Zeta Gundam streaming to watch? (legally?)

Yeah, I've been wanting to watch Turn A Gundam for a while now. But actually the perfect show for you would be Gundam Build Fighters which can be viewed on Youtube legally under the Gundaminfo channel. I'm in the same boat where I played all the DW Gundam games so I essentially know the stories without having watched the anime. Gundam Build Fighters takes all the Gundams you know and love then smashes them into a tournament style anime. Just pure fun.

I found that on youtube and was hoping to find more....but nada. I could have sworn I saw Bandai or Suncoast (?) legal episodes on Youtube from a year ago....

I've got Netflix, and AmazonPrime. Nothing there. What about CrunchyRoll or Hulu?

There's no legal source right now, because no one in the US had the rights to any Gundam for awhile. Rightstuf just got the distribution rights, including Turn A.

GundamInfo does have SEED, SEED Destiny, 00, AGE, Build Fighters, and Build Fighters Try on their YouTube channel, though all are subbed. They also have Zeta and Char's Counterattack, but the former is not in a Playlist and was uploaded in random order.

Watching Sailor Moon again. I have gotten used to Usagi and Ami's dub voices, but I just can't get into Rei's. Not only was Katie Griffin great in the role, this new voice sounds far too old.

To be fair, Christina Vee is 5 years older now than Katie Griffin was then. Even trained voices will sound older at 27 than at 22 :)

Finished Dragonball Z and I was sad to the point of tears. I know GT and movies are available but knowing it's not canon just makes me feel empty.

I thought I was prepared for it but it's still sad to see Naruto go today. Have lots of great memories that came from being a fan from it. The NarutoFan forum, Mangahelpers, learning how to typeset on PhotoShop, waiting every month for the new Shonen Jump to read the newest chapters until I got smart and used the internet lol, lots more. I kinda want to see Kishimoto come back to the series again sometime one day since I want more but at the same time I realize it will end too if so as everything good comes to an end.

yeah i really cant believe its over aswell :whistle2:( , hope part 3 is just as good

Finally caught up to One Piece (anime). The Dressrosa arc has been very solid so far. Much better than the previous two. Punk Hazard was't bad but Fishman Island was so boring.

Parasyte episode 5 was a shocker.

And I finished Ping Pong the Animation. I digged the animation style.

Watched the first episodes of SHIROBAKO, Your Lie in April and Flowers of Evil. Just wanted to give something new a shot.

SHIROBAKO is an anime about making anime. But after the first episode I didn't care for it. So many characters, I was getting confused by jumping around from scene to scene. Overall I didn't find it as interesting as I thought.

Flowers of Evil I was mixed about. Sloooooow pace but I didn't mind it. It had a creepy vibe to it with little to no music that had me intrigued. The rotoscope animation seems to have limitations were faces are blank if they're far off but suddenly pop up once they're closer. I still welcomed it since it was different. After the creepy ending I didn't know what to think, so I read up on it more. I'll probably drop it since the story doesn't really go anywhere and sounded like something I would find boring.

Your Lie in April was good, in fact I caught up with all the episodes already. Every once in a while I enjoy these sappy teenage slice of life romances. I guess I like anime romance centered around music. So yeah, I'm keeping this one.

I've been kind of flip flopping between animes but here's what I've been watching

Gintama (around episode 70ish now) - Gintama is really weird at times but its humor is what makes it worth watching. Some episodes are better than others then sometimes you will randomly have these action arcs out of nowhere. Makes you wish the series would progress with the story more often but I'm pretty sure it's intentional.

Shakugan no Shana - The dub felt sloppy at first but I noticed a lot of these voices from when I was a kid with Inuyasha. The anime kind of reminds of the original Fate/Stay Night anime where the protagonist is completely useless and unlikeable while all the other characters are more interesting. I'm already half way through it so I hope it gets better. It does really give me the Inuyasha vibe though... especially with Naraku's English VA being the voice of Shana's necklace. gahhh

Fairy Tail - The new filler arc is pretty silly so far. The previous one in the last series started out this way too but then improved as it went along. So far it's all about fan service and I never knew on how many angles they could put Yukino in. Not to mention the jiggle fest between Lucy (who seriously needs to change that 3 arc old outfit) and Virgo.

Fate/Stay Night (2014) - Since I just finished Fate/Zero, I figured why not start on the new Fate anime. I'm loving it so far, the top notch animation is great too. I can see why people are calling it "Unlimited Budget Works" as it's absolutely nuts. The new pace of the story (compared to the previous anime) seems to fit more with the Fate/Zero story and better explanations on wtf is going on helps too. The original anime cut so many corners that it was hard to tell what was going on.

Mushi-Shi (2014?) - I randomly came across this on CR and had no idea a new series was started. I watched the original one last year when I got it on sale and loved on how mellow yet interesting it was. The new series follows the same pace and is a continuation of the last series. Not much to say about it but it's still the same series.

Gatchaman Crowds - I might have to rename this ADHD Crowds due to the crazy hyperactive protagonist who makes Naruto look tame. Granted I only watched the first 2 or 3 episodes but I kind of like it. I tend to stray away from CG heavy series but it seems anything involving mechs or robots makes it mandatory to have now. Not sure if I'll come back to this one but it's not bad.

I totally forgot about Mushi-Shi. Thanks for bringing that one up. I need to check it out soon. Maybe tonight during my break I'll check out the first episode.

Also watched the first episode of One Week Friends. I liked it so I'll keep with it when there's nothing else to watch.

Yeah, it's a bit slow as always but I kind of have be in the right mood for Mushi-Shi. I'm not sure if the original series is on CR since that was from Funimation (the new one is Aniplex USA) so if you're on CR, you might have switch to Hulu for that one.

I don't what it is with the Ocean guys. Their voices fit the roles but the acting is usually really bad. They get better as the series progresses but they never really clicked with me. It's still not the worst dub I've heard but I'm glad they got replaced later on. I'm usually not a crazy purist but I have no idea why I didn't switch to the sub.

I only have up to S2 of Shana since it was on the SAVE line but I'll probably switch to something else once I'm done S1. I personally think it's kind of stupid on how it takes 2 seasons for Yuji to become useful but I guess its to keep the spotlight on Shana. =/

Well, much of Season 2 focuses on Yuji learning more about the various forces vying for control. He doesn't fight in Season 2, but he is the center of attention.

EDIT: Viz posted a Sailor Moon clip showing off the new voice of Sailor Jupiter.

Not a teenage romance, but I'm assuming you've seen Nodame Cantabile? I got pretty far into the series, but never quite finished it. I LOVED it though.

Any idea if it still follows the manga content like the original series did? It jumped around a bit, but it stayed true to the story. Man, I wish the manga had continued and not just randomly end. It's a fine ending, but it's hard to say goodbye to such a good character and world.

I never read manga at all so I wouldn't know, sorry. :(

I found it on Hulu so I'm good. Thanks buddy
If you are interested in Dubs the first season of Nodame was dubbed and released through Crackle. The other seasons are not dubbed though and the series doesn't have a dvd release to buy (at least not in NA), which is a shame because it's one of my favorite romance series.

Anyone watch the "I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying" shorts? I've personally been laughing my ass off.
I watched the first two episodes, but I was a little buzzed at the time and it was super late. I couldn't keep up with it since it was sooo fast. Maybe I'll give it another try since I do like these shorts like Seki Kun Master of Killing time and Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories. The other one about a guy with a mermaid in his bathtub looks stupid.

Love it. Wish it was a full series. The ending of the last episode. Hot damn.
You should stop smoking for the baby.
.....
Just kidding.
You had me worried
Is that what you expected me to say?

To edit my wrong thread post... I have heard good things about Tiger & Bunny but it just seemed like a really silly series so it never appealed to me. I could be wrong but if it's on sale on BF or on RS's Christmas sale, I might try it for the hell of it.

Tiger & Bunny is a great concept with a mediocre execution.

The premise is silly, but the show doesn't revel in it. You got a main character(not a kid for once) who is easy to relate too. Some good comedy, along with some very well done action scenes. The show isn't perfect
(some poor characterizations),but if you enjoy the superhero genres then give it a buy when it's on sale.
