Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Depends...do you want to cry, laugh, or get revved up? lol

Cry: Clannad

Laugh/Entertaining: Skip Beat or Great Teacher Onizuka

Action: Full Metal Panic! (note that Fumoffu is all filler, but entertaining)

Also, your MAL vanished...wanted to check it to see what you've watched and it says it doesn't exist?
I updated my username on a number of sites: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/MySynpai

Cry: Clannad - seen it, liked it, watched After Story as well.
Laugh/Entertaining: Skip Beat or Great Teacher Onizuka - I've thought about giving Skip Beat a try, and I've heard of GTO but that's about it...
Action: Full Metal Panic! (note that Fumoffu is all filler, but entertaining) - Seen it, thought it was great, really enjoyed Fumoffu :D

I'm thinking about sticking with the musical theme and check out Nodame Cantabile since it appears to only be 23 episodes.

do skip beat since there is a kickstarter going for it to be localized still thus you could help bring it over if you like it :p

as for GTO. It's a hoot, but only if you can handle very wrong themes lol. If you watch it in english the main character is spike from cowboy bebop.

Only downside of the english dub for GTO is all the girls sound super fake and terrible. MC is done well though.
yeah... a couple of them are alright on both the male and female side of the non MC, but a couple of them are also very bad.

that being said, given how over the top the comedy is in GTO I find most of the voices to be fine because cheesy badly delivered lines from a lot of the characters actually kind of fit the show lol.

Very good point. Loved GTO <3. Also because I know you read it, latest chapter of Skip Beat! manga....totally predicted the end of that chapter.

So the Skip Beat! kickstarter opened up more slots in the higher pledge tiers and added a $300 one. I can't ever see myself owning a bright pink jacket though, so I'll let the serious anime convention people grab that. It's too bad the timing on the $5k one is horrible for me because of work, somewhat tempted to do that one if just to network.

actually I stalled out about 5 chapters ago.

I have been letting it sit for a bit to let the whole mother arc end as I have been having issues remembering the details month to month with so much background info being dropped.

I plan on reading it soon though as I figure the mother stuff is mostly done by now.

It just wrapped up! Back to the usual.

Now, on to Erased! I totally loved the last episode!!! Was perfect, especially the very end. This is definitely getting a place on my shelf when it comes out in blu. Didn't think it'd be so philosophical.

Erased won't get a place on my self unless I can import it, since as far as I am concerned it won't be released in north america.

Erased Finale - I got a little teary eyed when Satoru meets grown up Kayo. Great show, even got my wife to watch it.

Girls Beyond the Wasteland Finale - This ended pretty much the way I expected. Not a bad show, just very generic.

I'll finished up Gundam and Rakugo tonight.

I've also been watching Dagashi Kashi. It's wrapping up this week too. It's been okay but I thought I was getting a different show at first. In the first episode they mention the MC aspires to become a manga artist but this is something that is never touched on again. There really is little to no plot going on. It's kind of a hard to recommend. I guess if you really like Japanese snacks.

Still one more episode of Rakugo and Iron-Blooded Orphans left! This last episode of Rakugo though was gold. I was hoping the last couple would make the earlier episodes worthwhile and it totally does. Things are tying together so well.

Is that Erased thing a spoiler? I've been waiting for it to finish before I started it...

i think you missed the part "as far as I am concerned" in my post.

aniplex has the rights and will release it in NA. (they snag rights to most of their produced titles, aside from very unpopular ones, erased is popular so they no doubt have the rights)

I will never buy an aniplex release unless it gets a crazy discount (given their normal prices it would need like an 85% discount for me to bite thus I likely won't) thus I don't consider it to be released physically in north america.

my comment about importing was because the EU versions tend to be a lot cheaper. if it ends up like sword art online which isn't that much cheaper I likely still won't buy it. but it if ends up more like Durarara did then I will likely just import it because Erased at $40 to import is much better than Erased in 3 separate $100 parts.

edit: actually looking at aniplex's annoucements today it would likely only be $80 per part for 2 parts (or $60 on rightstuf for a total of $120) thus i would only need a 50-60% discount that will never happen instead.

Not sure how I feel about the season finale of Iron-Blooded Orphans.

On one hand, I like that there are actual consequences such as Mika's bum arm and eye, and Gaelio's death (as much as it pissed me off), but then with Shino, Lafter, and Azee all surviving relatively unharmed it kinda cancels it out, though I wonder if that was always the plan or if Executive Meddling stepped in, given how much parental outrage IBO has gotten in Japan.

Yeah that surprised me too. I'm still quite happy with the show. Let's see what the 2nd season brings, but it's shaping up to be pretty awesome potentially.

So Dimension W stopped with the "coils" talk (down to single digits) and turned its focus on fanservice.

And the show continues to get worse, especially with the latest episode where every female character was degraded physically, verbally, and physically again. It's not even "so bad it's funny" like MD Geist was.

Oh,and it had robot ghosts.

And alternate dimensions.

Dimension WTF continues on.

Gundam IBO [END] - Solid ending and a great Gundam anime. Looking forward to the next season.
Mcgillis is obviously the Char counterpart in this Gundam.

I thought Rakugo ended. But it looks like there's one more episode.

One Piece

FINALLY Mingo got his ticket punched. What a long arc, maybe the longest in OP history I'd bet. How many episodes has it been since we've seen Sanji and his group?

Started Grimgar last night and 4 episodes in. Really good show. I'm a sucker for "being trapped in a fantasy JRPG anime." It just finished so I'll probably binge this the next few days. I totally recommend it to anyone who wants a good fantasy/action anime similar to Log Horizon or Overlord.

With that said the animation gets lazy at times. Too many still frames, but when a fight scene starts up the animation gets bumped up 200%

Started Erased today and am really enjoying it. Already 7 episodes in and looking to finish it up tomorrow. Can't wait to see where the story is going!

Hmmm....they don't imply they are trapped in a game do they? It seems more like they are brought over to a fantasy realm from their own realm. That being said, I'm glad you like it. I'm hoping for a 2nd season. It's a lot slower paced than either Log Horizon or Overlord though...

BTW - Just finished Haikyu season 1. That show is great. Really enjoyed it and can't wait to start up season 2. Laughed a lot more than I expected and there's a lot of depth in the show. It's not just about 1 uber guy. Good rec!

Glad you liked Haikyu. Enjoy season 2. It just gets better. Even the junior members get their chance to shine. Those were my favorites. You'll love it when you see those moments.

As for Grimgar they might not be in a game but it's obvious the world and it's rules are that of a typical RPG. "Is it Okay to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon" did the same thing. But I do see what you mean with the slow pace. I find it odd for this type of show but it doesn't annoy me for some reason.

And all that Yume butt fan service is laughable.

Lol yea, that's a good way to put it, butt service. Reminds me of Prison School and the one conversation about butt fetishes. All-in-all it's pretty equal in terms of fan service for the women and men I think and it doesn't really focus on that much in the show (except for that ridiculous thief guild master). If a season 2 comes out that has a quicker pace to it that completes the story I can see myself giving Grimgar a higher rating and wanting to own it.

Oh and I got indirect confirmation that someone has licensed Erased for distribution here. It could be AoA, but who knows. Either way, we'll have it for sale here at either reasonable prices or soul crushing prices :D

Nice. So did you notice how most of the people in Haikyu have freaking elf ears?? I think the artist doesn't know how to draw ears >.< lol

I just finished re-watching Samurai Champloo. It was entertaining, but I don't like the fact that the timeline isn't consistent for the characters even if it isn't historically accurate. I think that is why I got frustrated the first watch trough. Once they hit the mushrooms episode it is pretty much off the rails. Slightly disappointed with the ending, but 95% of Anime endings are disappointing.

Whoa whoa whoa. You mean a show that takes place in 1800's Japan yet has frequent rapping, a character who uses breakdancing as a fighting style, and the most stereotypical Americans ever might not be historically accurate?

Hell, the beginning of the show makes fun of it.

I know that. I was saying I knew that, but it bothers me that the timeline for the characters themselves isn't consistent. The narrorator/cop/borderguard says it took place 100 years ago when he tells a story about the group, then in another episode he says 30 years ago and everyone is the same age. It bothers me that they acknowledge the passage of time for everyone else in the story except for the "heroes".

Welp, Rakugo will have a season 2, which is awesome. A little shocked by some of the things in this episode as it transitions poorly from the past to the current. Either way, let's see what season 2 brings to the table. Hopefully something good!

Finished Erased. Really enjoyed it. Was pretty sure/obvious who the killer it was interesting to see how they got there. It left me wanting to see how everyone is doing now instead of just a brief wrap up.

I feel like that's how all the good anime end up. I do feel like this did a good job of doing it though. I was really happy with the ending.

Speaking of Erased, I started it recently. I've only seen 2 episodes but I'm already pretty sure the killer is
the teacher
Hopefully it's not that obvious...

What comes first? Bakemonogatari or Nisemonogatari. Or is there another one that pre-dates both of these? Tried wiki-ing it but I confused myself even more.
