Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

I need something new. Now that I'm done with Gintama I need a anime to binge on. I'm thinking either Clannad or Fairy Tail. Any suggestions?

I tried getting back into Ace of Dimoand last night and got bored. That show always had pacing issues.
Fairy Tail is great, assuming you like shonen. Clannad is good, but has a mix of comedy and sadness. Second season is a lot more serious and so the sad parts hit harder. You can always browse my list and see if anything catches your eye.

Oh and I've been watching Yowamushi Pedal, another one you recommended I think. Pretty solid so far. Their pants though? So....freaking....ugly! Bright yellow with hatches + green jacket?? Look like clowns! In Japan I never saw a school outfit that bad

I like Shonen is doses. I'll try one episode of each show and see with one sticks.

Enjoy Yowa Pedal. It's one of the better sports anime of recent years. It gets pretty intense, especially the second season. But yeah, those school uniforms were strange looking. How far along are you?

it's much like gintama and only good if you can get past the first 20 or so episodes.

until the guild wars arc the show is very meh. from there on though it's a solid shonen watch.

it doesn't help that there is a horrible mushroom filler episode at like episode 8.

Ep 7 I think?

I really wish the staff of Naruto Shippuden made these Kaguya and Hagoromo backstories as specials or DVD-only extras instead of episodes of the main series.

watch ep 22 of Assassination Classroom, dang cant believe its almost over
It was a good series. I caught up last night and I'm going to miss it.

Finished Kids on the Slope last night. Did not like the ending. Enjoyed the youthful drama, but that last episode really rubbed me the wrong way.

If you don't like the ending you can try the manga and see if you like that better as the anime series didn't adapt most of the last volume of manga if I recall right.

Really? I freakin' loved the ending. If you're interested the manga's ending is a little more elaborated on and not as rushed.

Have you seen Usagi Drop? It's another really charming slice of life anime.

I'll have to check out the last manga volume. Without spoilers, I really didn't like how Kaoru acted early in the last episode and from there they lost me.

^^will check out the last volume. As for Usagi Drop, I think you may have been the one to suggest that earlier this year. I watched it and loved it. Wish there was another season!

Uh yeah, let's not go where the manga does...
Shit, I didn't even know there was a manga for this. So basically just stop now and live forever with the charming-ness of the anime?

Can someone link me to the post that had like 20 rom-com suggestions? I can't find it and I need something new to watch.

If Fairy Tail doesn't annoy the fuck out of you by 5 episodes in, you can binge watch it. You have to watch through collection 4 (95 episodes) to get a satisfying ending to a meta storyline. There are several arcs that are good, but by the end of collection 4 they wrap up/explain things to a point where you could stop watching and still be satisfied (without feeling you wasted your time watching it).

I did the same thing with Yu Yu Hakusho after the Dark Tourney arc and Kenshin after Kyoto arc. They both seem to have hit their high points so I really don't mind dropping something before it over stays it's welcome.

I started watching it. I got a few episodes in and felt I had enough of the show. I figured I come back to it later, but I never did.

Yeah I wasn't a fan either. Also, the Usagi Drop manga ending isn't bad at all. They actually cleared up something that apparently Daikichi knew from the very beginning. As long as that gets cleared up, there's nothing really wrong w/ how it ended. Just unusual and weird.

I guess I'm the only one who liked Kid's on the Slope's ending. A little rushed but nice & feel good. Then again it's been several years.

And don't encourage the Usuagi Drop manga ending. It's not weird, it's disturbing & wrong. Just wrong.

Growing more concerned with the ending with each new post. I think I'm going to avoid like the plague. Already getting chills...

Started Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!. Entertaining so far (3 episodes in).

We should probably stop mentioning it then. Besides it's something that's been discussed in this thread before.

At least One Piece picked up the pace and we're finally done with the 100 episode long Dressrosa arc. That was looooong.

it made me drop the anime after watching the anime for oh 11 years :p

I don' blame you. That was rough. I may take a break from it for a year then binge it. It's a difficult show to watch episode by episode.

My daughter is watching One Piece and she's about to hit Water 7. Watching it with her makes me miss early One Piece. I'm watching episodes I don't remember at all.

I just cannot get back into One Piece. I loved the Captain Kuro arc and most of the Arlong arc (until Luffy stupidly got stuck in the rock and the arc started to suck), but Alabasta started to wear on me really quick. Never finished Skypeia and only read the manga via Shonen Jump, so I've only seen the Impel Down and Dressrosa arcs. Pretty much none of the arc-specific characters have stuck with me (aside from Traffy and Jimbei) and Dressrosa was terrible. It doesn't help that I'm not a big Luffy fan.

I'll give it this, I'm more into One Piece than I am Hunter x Hunter or Toriko.

I am hoping they release the soundtrack used in the more recent episodes so One Pace can get back to fixing the desarosa arc >.>

heh.... you missed the best arcs ><

water 7 to enies lobby arcs

water 7 by itself isn't great, but it is needed to set up enies lobby arc.

and then enies lobby is the best arc in one piece :p

Well, I did watch Team Four Star's playthough of Pirate Warriors 3. Does that count? :p

Enies Lobby was a lot of fun. You finally get to see the Straw Hats unload their full strength. Up to that point I always thought Robin was just tagging along, but this arc solidified her as part of the group. Not to mention we get Sokeking, Chopper using his rumble ball, Luffy going Gear 2nd the first time, and of course Franky joining the team. Plus this arc puts the Strawhats on the map, going against the World Government and upping their bounties considerably. It's a pretty important arc.

I liked Water 7, especially the conflict between Luffy & Ussop. That was some emotional stuff.

Wow, Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans is boring. Even during the latest fight sequence, these people don't shut up. It's nothing but constant dialogue.

HunterxHunter, meanwhile, is pretty entertaining.

That sounds like your typical Gundam show.

It took me a while to get into Hunter x Hunter but when it picks up it never slows down. One of my favorite shows.

My Hero Academia Season 2 has been confirmed. Also, though I can't find any articles right now, but apparently Saban has announced a dub for Digimon Adventure Tri.

I'm glad we got something like Gundam Iron-blooded Orphans. I rather have that than Gundam Reconguista and Gundam AGE.

I wouldn't mind a Gundam Build Fighters Season 3. Wish the Build Fighter OVAs would come out already. Been forever since they announced them lol

I'm in Tokyo right now, arrived a day ago. About take my daughter to Jump World in Subshine 60 Ikebukuru. Probably head over to ANimate right across the street too. I have no idea what to get. Maybe a few impulse purchases. If I get anything unique or cool I'll post pics.

I was also able to set up a U.S. IP address so I can watch my anime and some HBO GO. My in-laws like their dumb variety shows which I can't stand.

I also went on Japanese Netflix just to see what they have and there's a bunch of shows I'd like to watch but alas no subtitles.....

Netflix is actively bringing some of its foreign shows to the US, so you could always check US Netflix. They have Atelier, which was a fun show.

Didn't get anything cool. Just a little Chopper figure for my daughter. I did see a bunch cool Gintama stuff, but it's all stuff I don't need. The important thing is we had fun. It was kinda difficult playing some of the games with my poor and limited Japanese. This is my 6th trip to Japan, I really should be better. But when my wife serves as translator it makes me lazy.

Funny thing is there where more girls than guys. We were waiting in line to play some Kuroko basketball game and I was the only dude in line. Otaku chicks were everywhere. At least I was there with daughter because I would've felt like a foreign creeper by myself.

lol...too funny. Hey if you were tall and blond with blue eyes, they'd be the creepers.

Chibi Franziska is so kawaii!

So I just realized today I never watched last week's RE: Zero because I was too busy with work. Same deal today, but going to make time for it. Two episodes in a row makes me happy though haha.

Decent episode of DB Super. Lots of little things, like Trunks' Buu Saga and Whis & Beerus' reactions to the events going on, were great, even if the visuals sucked yet again.

My Hero Academia had a great season finale, even if it was mostly wrap-up. Given the Season 2 teaser, it looks like they will include not just the School Festival but the Hero Killer arc as well.
