Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Woah woah woah....I read an article for RE: Zero on Crunchyroll that said that

The giant furry monster at the end of the last RE: Zero episode was Puck?!?! Did anyone else figure that out or did I just miss it because the scene was so WTF?
Nope, did not see that coming. That was one creepy ending too.

So I'm watching Twin Star Exorcists and the show is terrible. Why do I do this to myself? Why does the MC have shark teeth? Why so much exposition? I'm 11 episodes in thinking it might get better but nope, it's still shit. Someone please recommend me a good sappy rom/com.

It started off with a standard plot that may have been interesting, but then recently has devolved into garbage. I'm still watching it to, but realize that it's crap and just want to see if the crap improves. I just checked what I've been watching and nothing qualifies as a sappy rom/com. Amanchu is a light slice-of-life show that just started. Easy to watch and relaxing, but nothing special so far. Maybe try that?

that show is apparently going to go on for 40 something episodes,so you might as well bail now if your not enjoying it. 91 Days making it's Godfather inspirations even more obvious with this episode

I'm dropping Twin Star Exorcists. I honestly can't see it getting any better. Only reason why I even bothered with it was because it's popular on CR. I figured it couldn't be too bad, but I was wrong.

I forgot about 91 Days. It's been out for a couple weeks so I'll watch that sometime as well. But some of these more serious, adult anime have been disappointing recently namely Joker Game and Gangsta.

I'll give Amanchu a try also. It looks like something I might enjoy.

I saw Attack on Titan on bluray at the library, so I picked it up. I didn't think I would like it since it looked like human godzilla meets steampunk Germany, but I am enjoying it. It drags on a couple episodes, but it is entertaining. I think I already figured out the story, so I am hoping there is a twist.

I'm not sure how far you're in but yes there's some pretty big twists. And yes, I also thought it dragged, especially in the beginning. I really enjoyed the show so if you're cool with it at this point I think you're good for the long haul.

As for Twin Star I just saw it is indeed getting 50 episodes pushed out.

Watched 2 episodes of Handa-Kun. It starts off a little pretentious but by the second episode I was digging it. I often hate the "popular kid" as a MC but Handa isn't trying to be cool or popular. It just happens by accident. But still i want more Barakmon.

Watched some of Rewrite. I didn't get through the first episode. Not to say I hated it but from the 20 minutes I watched I found it a bit too childish for my tastes. I don't mind the random fan-service or middle-school setting, but they're not even trying to hide the fact this is for the kiddies. It's obvious this was adapted from a visual novel since the first episode is just MC meeting his harem and establishing himself as this series' pussy magnet.

And I watched just a few minutes of Amanchu! but I lost track of time and had to get ready for work. I liked what I saw. It seems simple and laid back enough, and I can always use more of those shows. Just curious if this is going to be yuri bait.

And DBZ Super continues to be fun. No complaints here.

Oh good, I forgot to come here and complain about Rewrite. Thanks for the reminder. The entire plot is a confusing clusterf*ck. It's like they are trying to squeeze in three major plot types into one story and they all fail miserably. I'm going to drop it from now on personally. It's just garbage.

I ended up rewatching Food Wars S1, Overlord, and Gate.

Lol. Really want a 2nd season for the last two. ><
Overlord I hope gets more. I think it has a manga or light novel associated with it, can't recall if the anime covered most of it and needs to wait for them to write more or what. Gate seems like it will get more given it's popularity.

Overlord was originally a web novel before being adapted into a light novel and then into a manga and a light novel. The Manga is barely past the end of Season 1. The Light Novel is more far along and provides enough material for more seasons. It just gets more interesting past S1.

It is a great thing that we're both getting localized versions of the manga and light novel.

I am waiting for the dubs to rewatch food wars and gate.

I need to finish overlord and gate season 2 sometime though.
Gate doesn't have a Season 2. It is merely the 2nd cour (block of Season 1), meaning Season 1 was just split into 2 parts. Crunchyroll made the mistake of calling it Season 2 when it should just be Second Cour.

sorta true, but it's not just crunchy MAL also has it listed as season 2 and anidb has it broken into two parts, and in general shows that have a break between the two parts are called season 1 and 2.

thus it is gate season 2 as no doubt it will also be sold as season 1 and 2 :p

I know full well about the split cour though, as it wasn't announced until like 24 hours before the then final episode of the first half was aired -_- until then it was announced as a 24 episode single run.

Gunna be real annoying to see that happen. I rather see Sentai do GATE Part/Collection I and GATE Part/Collection II

They probably decided to split it last minute for some random reason. It would take at least a year for a show to get another season. Not just a gap of few months.

GATE is still 1 Season to me. A comparable example would be Agents of Shield when they took a couple month break before resuming airing.

agents of shield isn't really comparable american seasons aren't like japanese ones :p

beyond that though seraph of the end, snow white with the red hair, aldnoah, all were split cours and all are considered season 1 and 2 on most places. though funimation is actually selling seraph as just one season. and aldnoah is being sold as sets 1-4 instead of season 1 and 2.

either way I don't think i matters much in regards to gate. the anime adapted a large chunk of the novels and likely won't get a new season for years if it ever does. Last I checked it wasn't all that popular.

Psycho Mob 100 1-2 - Visually the best show this season. I love the gritty animation and water colors. Reminds me of Ping Pong the Animation. Cant wait to see where this goes.

91 Days 1-2 - Boardwalk Empire the anime. I've always enjoyed stories set in the prohibition era so I really liked this. Just PLEEEEASE don't fall apart. Stay concise and on point. These shows tend to lose their shit the last few episodes. And it's tied with Psycho Mob for best OP this season.

Amanchu 1 - It was good but one thing that bugs me is the overused Muppet face. More than half the show they had that dumb blank expression almost like the animators got lazy. It was annoying. Beside that I enjoyed it but I may put this one on hold till the season is over. It seems like a show I'd enjoy more if I binged it over a few days.

Yeah the muppet face annoyed me too

Generally agree. I haven't seen some of these shows. I knew from the start from reading the brief description that Highschool Life of Fudnashi was garbage. I'm not sure what I think about Mob Psycho. I need to watch the first episode again, but it didn't really do it for me like OPM did.

Fudnashi is bad but it's a short so I can take the absurdity in small doses. Mod Psycho's story is okay but the visuals is what puts it on top for me. I love it because you can tell the animators are having fun.

Ok, Attack on Titan gets my approval. I still don't like 3d/2d mixed, but I need to accept that is how Anime is made now. I had pretty much everything figured out as I watched, but at least it wasn't too obvious. The identity of one character was one of the two options I had considered.

The thing I don't understand is why didn't anyone make it a priority to get back to the cellar? -Or are only the MPs allowed to do something like that, since it isn't the Scouts jurisdiction. (I mean I know they did it for the sake of storytelling, but was it justified in the story line?)

Well, they kind of did right? That's why they made their initial expedition and everything got jacked up. I expect it to be a focus of the next season (which I thought was coming this year).

I thought they were outside the all the walls on the expedition. But the cellar was within the outermost wall wasn't it?

Anyone keep up with the Bleach manga? Man, loving it! There's a bit of the usual nonsense crap, but it's so awesome to read. I hope they turn the final arcs into an anime. A NO FILLER ANIME YOU EVIL BASTAGE STUDIOS!

I imagine AoT is like many comics starting out.  The writer started off with a nice simple, straightforward goal; the secret is in the cellar, let's take back Wall Maria and go there.  Then when the popularity took off, they realized (or were told by the publisher) that they could sell many more volumes than they initially thought.  That means they either need to come up with a new goals for after their plans, or they need to delay the current one to future volumes.

That's when we start asking things like, "When are they going to get to the Fireworks Factory?"

I'm not saying Hajime Isayama is making it up as he goes along, just that his initial idea for how long a "long-term" series would be probably wasn't the same as his editor.

I thought Attack on Titan started off amazing and then it went downhill fast. Like off a cliff fast, particularly when
Eren gets superpowers. IMO they should have let him die and made Mikasa the main character. After that point Eren became a terrible character. He seemed to have a complete 180 on his personality where went from gotta do what I need to do to being a nice little obedient pet for the corps. Maybe someday I'll go back to see if it got better, but somehow I doubt it did.

Urgh. Y'know, I could understand the backstory arcs in Naruto because they were great world building arcs. The biggest problem was them airing during the final fight instead of before the Shinobi World War arc. And now that they're done with they're going back to the Kaguya fight like the manga, right? Nope! More Part 1 filler!

In better news, GundamInfo is posting the original Gundam Movie Trilogy on YouTube for a limited time.

I'm really just waiting for it to end. I mean none of this fan service at the end has any meaning because every power up/returning character gets immediately blow away by the next power up/returning character. It probably doesn't help that I don't remember like half of the people that are being reintroduced. I'm sure it will read much better collected, or animated without filler, but on a weekly basis ugh.

I mean literally the last month was "I broke your blade," "no I fixed it," "look again it's broken."

On a Shonen jump weekly tangent, I'm in a similar spot with Toriko and Nisekoi which are both winding down but taking too long to do it.

Yea, Bleach has been kind of annoying since the 2nd invasion began. It was a bit interesting with Hitsugaya becoming a zombie, but the Kurosutchi fight was terrible. And now you have the two most overpowered bad guys in the series facing off and we still can't see Ichigo's Bankai yet.

Don't read Toriko, but Nisekoi has dragged to a crawl this final bit. However, I'm not as annoyed. Even at the glacial pace it's moving, it is still an enjoyable read. Maybe it's because the ending is within driving distance whereas Bleach still has miles to go.

Then again, I keep up with US Shonen Jump, which is 1 week behind the scantalations, so my mind may change.

Yeah, that's the problem with all this stuff being wrapped up within a business focus. Instead of letting the stories play out as the author would like, they say, well, we really want you to do 20 extra chapters! Then the author is like uhhhh ok, let me see what I can bullshit. I bet if there was a new publisher with low overhead, like a digital-only publisher, they could let the authors end things when they want and we'd get better stories as a result. Still, I'm used to shounen tropes and I like Bleach still despite the weirdness.

Been watching Alderamin on the Sky and it might be a stealth hit this season. Not enough episodes to be sure, but I dig it. It's familiar territory and not unique, but solid so far.

So this latest episode of RE: Zero I found annoying. It's like they are delaying the inevitable, just to prolong things. There were a few interesting tidbits we got to learn this episode at least.

I guess the anime will cover the story in all the released light novels according to the interwebs. Hopefully end of next year we'll get season 2 when maybe they finish it? That's being hopeful, but I think this show is pretty popular, so it should get an encore to finish or at least if there's enough content to make a season 2 by then. Ahhhh I'm bummed it won't all be done in 26 episodes.

I didn't realize until someone mentioned it that this "final" Bleach arc has been going on for over four years. No wonder I can't remember the characters from previous arcs.

The last handful of chapters had been pretty boring. At least the last chapter was interesting.

Enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

Naruto pretty much did that too.

What are some good manga sites that allow me to buy and read manga on my iPad? I downloaded Kindle on my iPad but I can't seem to get any of the manga to read on it.

Also, if you bought the physical copy of a manga from Amazon, could you also read it through Kindle?

the series doesn't come out at a super fast rate, any sequel would likely be 2-3 years off.

most likely they will do what they did with girls in a dungeon. Re:zero also has a few spin off books, it's most likely if we get a new Re:zero series next year it would be based off those.

You have to buy digital versions separately.

Viz has an app, which is what I use for their stuff, but their manga is also available on comixology, and purchasing in one place doesn't cross over. It's just that I've bought so much via Viz directly already. You can also subscribe to Shonen Jump weekly if you like Shonen jump stuff. They currently run One Piece, Black Clover, Hunter X Hunter (when it comes out), World Trigger, Nisekoi, Bleach, Food Wars, and Toriko weekly and monthly installments of Blue Exorcist, Seraph of the End, Boruto, and whatever Yugioh is currently running, all the week (or week after) Japanese release. You can get a years subscription for 25 bucks regular price. They also have a separate Shonen Jump app just for that, but you can read it through the Viz app fine.

Comixology is the app that most comic companies use, including DC and Marvel and Image, but also Viz, Kodansha and others. They were bought by Amazon and are slowly integrating Kindle to it, so usually if you bought something digitally for Kindle it will also show up in Comixology. Unfortunately there is no cross buy, so if you buy physical you don't get digital. They also just recently started a subscription service, but only some things are included and it rotates.

Crunchyroll has a manga app which is probably the worst of them all. They simul publish a bunch of series, though, and you can read the most recent chapters for free, with ads, via the app. If you have a Crunchyroll premium subscription you can read the archives, though they don't have, for instance, the early chapters of Attack on Titan and Fairy Tail.

Caught up with ReZero. Poor ol' Subaru. The last several episodes have just been him getting his dick kicked in dirt. The dude can't catch a break. It's a little grating to watch him struggle so much and you can't help but feel bad for him. But thing I like most about the show is the lack of exposition. It' doesn't explain every single little thing and just lets the world breath on it's own. Good show but a little hard to watch at times.

Food Wars/Porn continues to be entertaining, but it's been a while since season 1 so I'm trying to remember some characters.

His pride backfired on him. Lol.
It sure did. Would a reset even help much at this point? Subaru is broken beyond repair.

I wonder whats up with Beatrice? My guess is she is cursed too but something different. Maybe immortality hence her young appearance with so much knowledge of the world.

I have a feeling this show is going to end on a not so positive note.

Beatrix or whatever her name is has always been an anomaly. In one episode they implied that she was aware of his past visits to her, but then it gets ignored later. I think she's going to be a very interesting character ultimately. I always thought she was under-developed/not enough about her. I also agree I don't think it'll end on a positive note.

A reset wouldnt work anymore. His save point is beyond the moment he would want to go back.

As for it being bad for him. Its going to be like Dark Souls for a long while.

Beatrice is not completely Human, which explains the "contract" she made with Subaru in one of the loops.
