Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Finally had time to sit down with the wife and finish My Hero Academia. Glad there's more incoming. Had fun with that one.

Anyone check out Kiznaiver? That was probably next on my list.

A reset wouldnt work anymore. His save point is beyond the moment he would want to go back.

As for it being bad for him. Its going to be like Dark Souls for a long while.

Beatrice is not completely Human, which explains the "contract" she made with Subaru in one of the loops.
I was under the impression she wasn't human at all. Thought she was a spirit like Puck.

I still have 2 episodes but I'm not sure I'll finish it. It had some moments. Like a Breakfast Club anime with a bunch of misfits being forced to hang out. Overall I thought it was bland. It was one of those shows that never figured out what it wanted to be. It was all over the place with romance, comedy, drama, sci-fi, thriller, and it had these big dumb looking mascots that would pop out of nowhere. If anything the OP was cool.

Bummer to hear about Kiznaiver. My blind Trigger loyalty was gonna take me there either way, but I'll be sure to keep my expectations in check.
I probably should finish it just to say I watched it to the end. Near the middle it gets into this love triangle hell that really turned me off. It got a little ridiculous.

sweetness & lightning [3-4] I'm probably enjoying this one more than most people. It's the father in me. The girl in the show is a little younger than my daughter so I've experienced a lot of the same challenges in raising a girl. My only problem is Tsumugi seems a little to articulate for a girl her age. I'm not sure if it's the sub but I have difficulty believing half the things she says is coming from a 4 year old. I just hope sensei and student avoid a romantic attraction. I like their platonic relationship and think it's a rather unique one you don't see often.

Orange [3-4] I like this show. Not love, but like. With that said I don't understand why Naho just doesn't read the entire "letter from the future." She's reading it day to day,/episode by episode. I think any normal person would read the shit out of that day 1. But then I have a hypothesis that this is simply a "what if" story.

Lol, I had the exact same thought. I wonder if she did though and what we are seeing are flashbacks. Either way, I'm with you on the "I like it", but not "love it".

Something tells me it's not really a letter from the future. Maybe her sub conscience telling her to do things differently or future Maho imagining it.

Ga-Rei: Zero is messing with my emotions and I am only 4 eps in. It is breaking a lot of Anime rules. I like it.
Yeah, I loved that anime too.

You're introduced to some people and are like, hey, these guys are cool and interesting. Then they die. Then next episode, same thing. You start to wonder hey, are you fucking with me? Is everyone going to die? WTF! This is cool... lol

Should I not be watching Clannad dubbed? I'm a few episodes in and the dialogue is so unnatural & contrived. The voice acting isn't the issue, just these odd "hit n' run" conversations.

It's okay so far. I still hate the art style. Often characters are drawn without a mouth and two dots for a nose. I'm just not a fan.

It's sufferable and I will stick with it for now. Maybe I'm complaining too much and trying to find reasons to dislike it. I really don't have anything else to watch anyways.

I never watched the dub, but the original audio is fantastic. Lots of nuance that probably got butchered in the dub.

Maybe I'll switch to the sub. I like not having to read if I have the option, even if the dub is bad I don't mind so much. But If I'm missing something or the translation isn't working then that's a rule breaker.

Early Sentai dubs were not really that good. Granted, ADV was always hit or miss, but it seemed like after the crash they lost a lot of their good equipment and VAs.

My goodness, that Satoshi vs. Shota fight was freaking EPIC. The double KOs were a bit annoying (but still kinda impressive since Noivern is still the greenest Pokémon on the team and Goodra hasn't battled in 50 episodes), but the Mega Sceptile vs. Ash-Greninja battle was epic as all hell.

It was pretty obvious that they cut corners in the first part so that they could blow their budget in this part.

Next comes Satoshi vs Alain and his first Pokémon League Championship.

EDIT: Makes up for the idiotic Naruto filler episode. Yea, we finally officially saw Kakashi's face, but a Part 1 filler in the middle of the final fight!? Ugh.

When Toei gives the OK. Viz has licensed the manga, so that's a step in the right direction, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get released in the US until most of the Buu Saga Kai (which won't be released until it starts its Toonami run) is finished.

When does Buu Kai start on Toonami or has it already? Didn't see any announcement from Funi regarding Buu being done, so figured it wasn't on TV yet. The interwebs claim August for DB Super, for whatever that's worth.

Edit: Oh and I've been watching Qualidea Code (not a great show in case you were wondering) and at the end of episode 4 I literally LOL'd my head off. Perfect for that gigguk guy to make fun of. They also apparently ran out of budget near the end of the show too cuz things stopped animating. Literally. It was like, animation, scene jerk, a few pictures (with bad art) and then hey let's animate again!

Buu Saga starts when the Cell Saga ends. Last I checked, I believe they're still another 4 or 5 months from there, at least. The dub has been finished for a long, long time now.

I believe that Super start date was for the Southeast Asian dub, which FUNi has no control over.

correct on both accounts.

if you really want an english dub for super there is a fan dub going around, likely is higher quality than the asian dub will be.

Anyone watching Alderamin? I saw the first few episodes last night. This might be the sleeper hit of the season. I was surprised how much I liked it. Can't wait to watch some more tonight.

Yep, I'm watching Alderamin, been pretty good so far! Also watching The Outcast, 91 days, Orange, and Berserk - I'll probably catch up on all the new eps tomorrow...

Lol, stop trolling me!! I said those exact same words in a post some time back :p It's a great show so far.

RE: Zero is finally turning a corner. Excited to see the next 8? episodes til the end. I will guess we will get an anime ending...

No troll seriously, I must have missed your post. Next time I'll pay more attention since we seem to share the same affinity toward anime. I just watched ep 4 and it was great. I just hope they don't kill the chubby guy. They always kill the endearing chubby guy near the end.

As for ReZero I'm a little sad we wont get a real ending. From what I understand the anime is the most updated translation of the story. So once it's over we probably wont see it again for a while.

As for tonight I have DB Super, ReZero & Food Porn. Maybe some Clannad which I'm 5 episodes in.

Haha no I know you weren't trolling me ;) What do you think of Clannad w/ original audio?

Oh and also consider checking out New Game! when you have time Rodimus. Very light show.
I may check it out today since I'm caught up with my current shows. It looked interesting. I'm always up for something light.

Haven't got back to Clannad yet but I'm 5 episodes in. I like it but I wait for my wife to fall asleep before I watch it. She always makes fun of me for watching high school drama/comedy anime.

ReZero ep18 (aka Subaru can't catch a break) Boy, that was a lot of dialogue. I don't think we needed all of that. This episode has me conflicted. Some good things and bad things. We got more of a glimpse into Puck. Sub finally realized he's a selfish asshole but Rem pulling him back and encouraging him was cute. But finally it looks like Sub is back. Hopefully he uses his return from death to his advantage and all the stuff he's learned up to this point. I'd love to see him stick it to all those bitchy princesses.

I think next episode he'll be doing exactly that. He'll give Rem his FutureVision(tm) and then figure out how to play each one to get them to help or maybe ignore them (like that one bitchy woman). That's why it'll be fun to watch the next several episodes....lots of good stuff!

S2 of Re:Zero will happen when S2 of No Game No Life happens.

Subaru needs to get over his pride. It's usually his pride that fks him over as seen previously.

uh... re:zero is gonna be way later than that.

A. No game no life already has a movie coming that adapts book 6.

B. Re:zero is gonna burn through all of the books while no game no life only adapted half of them from the start.

C. No game no life aired two years ago, aka it has a head start anyways.

NGNL is getting a movie? bleh. Gimme another series run! Show is great. At least the movie isn't a rehash of the series....unless it's like Accel World.

Finally got around to watching Mask of Zeguy (somewhat rare central park DVD) and I could barely sit through it. I love cel animation, but the voice acting was pretty bad. I miss ultraviolent cel Anime.

Did you wish there was more Sword Art Online? Well, Skydance Productions has your back, because they're making a live-action SAO series!

Yeah I finally caught up on a couple month's worth of ANN news and learned about a lot of goodies. Gundam IB this winter, Haikyu! this winter, AoT S2 in Spring of 2017 and there was another good one in Spring of 17, oh the SAO movie.

I haven't watched a live action anime adaptation I liked. I tried watching both AoT and Ass Class on my flight to Japan. I couldn't stomach more than 10 minutes of them. I was never a fan of Japanese acting anyways. It always seems like they're over acting or trying to hard to play a character.

But then again Rurouni Kenshin was okay.

More Haikyu & Gundam this winter is great news.

Yeah the live action versions of most anime are more miss than hit. I did enjoy the Death Note one though and Gantz wasn't terrible.

Pretty much this. People get up in arms when a live action anime adaption is announced by the west and act like Japan makes good ones which is a joke. Most of them are awful with hilariously bad CG.

Action based anime just doesn't translate well into live action. When they try to mimic action scenes they end up looking goofy. Like when you see someone run like Naruto with their arms behind their back it looks stupid as fuck.

With that said I'm actually looking forward to the Netflix live action version of Death Note now that I learned Willem Dafoe is voicing Ryuk. It seems like something that could be good if done right. Also considering Netflix has been doing a great job with their shows.

nope not a rehash, it's supposedly adapting book 6 which is a prequel to the series apparently.
Tet barges in Novel 6 and decides to tell the story of how everything came to be in No Game No Life

Good thing it's a prequel.

Thanks for the recommendation. I watched the first 5 episodes last night. It reminds me of Shirobako (which I loved) but a little less stressful. And I noticed there's no dudes in the show, only girls. I can relate to Ko who walks around in her underwear. I do the same at home, but with boxers of course.

I need to go to Japan. I have the money, no job, no gf, no pets. I just don't want to go alone and I am worried about where I will sleep. Does that air B&B exist for Japan? I am seriously considering staying at a manga cafe, since it is cheaper than hostels and capsule hotels.

Just go to contiki.com and book a tour. You'll be in a group of young people and they handle lodging, travel arrangements, everything. Stress free and fun experience. Though if you have no job....might want to prioritize that ;)
