Apple WWDC 2008 - 3G iPhones - 8GB = $199 16GB = $299 (AKA iPhone Thread)
k im planning on heading out tomm to finally get my phone.. question is that using the store locator.. there doesnt seem to be 8gb at my closest store..

is the 16gb worth it? or should i hold out for thr 8gb? these things seem to hold their value so id imagine i could always get close or more than what i pay for it a year from now
I'd say the 16 GB model is the way to go. I love the fact that I have plenty of space to store my 8 MP images AND my music AND my apps AND whatever else I damn well please on my phone. I would have bought a 32GB model if I could have.

I'm hoping they come out with 32GB versions next year, that's when I'll upgrade.

I'd LIKE to upgrade my iBook g4 though. No widescreen, camera, slow as balls, no battery life, and gets REALLY hot.

Now a good time to invest in a new apple laptop, or wait it out? I know I can get a free iPod touch now (which I could sell to coup some of the cost)

a new macbook is due, the current one has been out for a few years now.

3 weeks until my verizon contract ends. can't wait for my 16gb black 3g
Also, only unlocks Gen1 iPhones. Boooo!
Yeah, right now you can only jailbreak 3G iPhones. They're working on the unlock.

Well, the only thing I am really interested in is unlocking my phone. I travel abroad and I don't want to use AT&T's ghetto ass international services for something that should only cost me pennies in the local currency.

thanks..ill keep that in mind. I woke up late saturday so no luck.

I think ill wait till all this line madness wears down..ill prob check again friday night to see if any stores will have it and "try" to wake up early on sat..
Done.

I now have a 1st gen phone with unlocked/jailbroken 2.0FW.
Gratz. Does it allow you to download apps from the iTunes store?
Gratz. Does it allow you to download apps from the iTunes store?
Yup, got tons of stuff on it already.
Dang, I wonder if they'll be able to port over Mobile Scrobbler to 2.0.
I'm hoping that comes soon.
I don't think they'll ever an official app for that on the iTunes store because of the background processing.

This and the superior iFlicker app are the ones I'm missing most.

i guess it depends on location but it seems like whenever they are in stock.. theres always lines. I hate that this is always the case. By the time i can get an iphone I will probably lost interest.

I checked apple store availabilty and all stores had nothing. I guess thats normal though because no shipments on sundays.

I wonder how att stores are doing with stock
Are iPhones still hard to come by? I was hoping to stop by a ATT store after work and score one.
i would like to know also...plan on dropping by tomorrow to pick one up. anyone buy an iphone last week?

From what I've heard, stock availability is down to nil. Finding an iPhone 3G is about the same as finding a Wii, even at the Apple store.

EDIT: Check here after 9 pm daily to get a feel for stock availability.
You shoulda got in line bro. It's going to be months before you'll be able to simply walk in and buy one.
Meh...screw that...I'll just wait it out.

Have fun waiting until October!!!

Seriously, Apple Stores are the best bet to score an Iphone

Also, the 16GB black version is the hardest to come by
Also, the 16GB black version is the hardest to come by
Getting in line at 5 am was the best decision (of this kind) I've ever made. I felt like I'd won the superbowl when I walked out of AT&T. All those people still in line looked like the losing team. :)

Called the local Apple store...in stock but currently have a 2hour wait and they have a very limited supply...bah!

With the old iPhone...was there ever a time where you could just walk in and get one on the spot?

Well, I didn't keep up with iPhone news back then, mostly because I was out of the country. That being said, my company picked up two Gen1 phones from Apple back in April. The managers just walked in and bought two.

Something tells me things will be different this time around however. The subsidized cost of the iPhone is making it possible for more people to own one, hence higher demand. If you really want an iPhone then you'll likely have to put some effort into obtaining one.

Well I'm in no rush...It just sucks that its this bad, but I can wait.

What kind of corporate discount is anyone getting? Anything? I signed up for AT&T's website through my company, and it says I'm eligible for a company discount but when I look for specifics it really just says go talk to a rep at your local AT&T store.

Discount applies to airtime...data is excluded, no discount on phone obviously. It's better than nothing.

most likely you will have to talk to the corporate liason between your company and at&t....your human resources should have that info....most likely you will need a code #, and email from your corporate addr and they will apply the discount.

I remember shortly after the price drop I did.

I'm talking like a couple days after.

I think I'll pre-order it...weird how no other store I've called has offered me this except for a local ATT store...makes me wonder if there are shady practices.

It's because AT&T wants payment upfront for the Iphone.

So you'll end up giving AT&T $200-$600 for the promise of a Iphone.

This is how it was explained the first weekend at the AT&T stores, with an estimated delivery date of Early August

What do you mean $200-$600?

I mean whatever the Iphone will cost you.

If you are a new customer, the Iphones cost $199 [8GB] or $299 [16GB]

Existing customers are being charged either $199, $399, or $599 for an 8GB model. It all depends on your existing ATT account.

Dallow, be skeptical.

You could buy an Iphone and cancel the contract right away

But in the terms and agreements, it states you have to return the Iphone if you cancel service within the first 30 days.

You would have to be a customer for 30 days, THEN cancel the line and pay the ETF.

But that does end up being cheaper than buying an as of now, unavialable Unlocked Iphone for $600/$700

Using the 8GB model and cheapest rate plan:

$215 for the phone+sales tax; $75 for the one month of service+taxes/fees; $175 ETF

Oh...you scared me there for a min...thought you meant I had to may more at time of pickup.

I'll be a new ATT customer so hopefully just the $199 + Taxes for me.

Some new customers were having to pay deposits for their new accounts on the first day.

Well, ATT will tell you if you'd need anything like that when you set up an account, which I think you'd need to do in order to preorder an Iphone anyway
Whoops, you gotta add the $36 activation fee there too
Do they really charge the activation fee? Every other company I've been with, Sprint and Verizon always advertised an activation fee but I never really got charged for it.

I was charged an activation fee when I switched although the service rep said he'd reverse the charge later. I still have to call him to have that done.

Well, I didn't have to pay the activation the day I picked up my phone. It will be on my first bill.
