Assassin's Creed - Gen. Discussion & Info
Just got back from picking it up at TRU. I'll post impressions in a while. I seincerely doubt I'll be dissapointed (especially since it was only $35 bucks).
My TRU still didn't have it, and I don't feel like checking later tonight, so I probably won't have it until tomorrow. Glad to see others are ignoring the reviews and finding out for themselves.

Didn't know that the game was coming to the DS as well...

I actually called ahead, even though I had already convinced myself they would have it. I asked the lady on the phone if they had it, then I heard her turn to another employee and ask if they had any copies of "Assnin's Green" (She was an idiot, btw). She told me not until tomorrow.

I didn't believe her because 1) She was an idiot, 2) I was pretty damn sure it was supposed to be out today. So I called again and got a different lady, only this time she said they had it. So I drove there, and when I got to the counter, the guy said "We have them in stock, but I can't sell them until tomorrow." Normally, I would've accepted the facts and left, but this was the same guy that literally yelled at me when I asked if they had broken the street date for Bioshock. So, since me and this guy weren't exactly "friendly" towards each other, I bitched at him until he gave me a copy. I don't like to be a 'pain in the ass' customer, but my TRU really sucks...

But yeah, that's how I got it.
is the LE worth it?
Depends, if you think the extra stuff is worth $10 to you.

I bought the regular copy since I was able to pricematch it using the Fry's ad and used my $25 SMG Giftcard + $5 RZ Cert. Got AC for ~$13

I thought the LE was worth it but you really don't get all that much. Atleast not as much as I thought you would. Best Buy said you get a small guid for the game and that I was in with the game. From what the case said it was in it but the way things look every place will get the guid so it is not a best buy only thing. To me it was worth it but more should have been added. Atleast the game comes in the normal case and not just put in the tin like most are.

As for the game and the reviews. I have not read any of them and didn't really keep up with the game other then what was on G4 at e3. Something had told me that the game would be like it is. I still said you have to be joking when I started playing it.

***Do not read if you have not played the first 30 minutes of the game or do not want to see some sort of spoiler. I only say this because I have said something that to me changes the game big time. More then any other spoiler for a game and dont want people to bitch. If you have played the first 30 minutes or so then nothing after that has been spoiled. I'm only about that far into the game myself.***

This game could have been so much beter if it was not for the searching dna story line of it. In the e3 videos you could see that the people would glitch and that told me something then. I knew something odd was up with this game because them were not normal glitches and I have never heard of something like that happening in a game. After playing it and in the first minute or so of the game I knew it was some sort of computer program you were in. It would have been so nicer if it was not like that

So....the game is good other than the plot line (which is your opinion) and repetition?

The problem I am running into is this. This game was hyped to be the second coming of Jesus....its not BUT just because its not a 10 out of 10 is it still a pretty good game.

Just because you are not as good as Michael Jordan doesnt mean you are Kwame Brown..you know what I am saying?

Damn...I am so on the fence between this and Kane and Lynch.

Ok, I've been playing it for a while now, and I'm happy to say that I'm enjoying it. It took forever to get started, but once it finally did, it was great.

But I must say, the games "twist" is SO unbelievably lame and pointless. Not only did they not need it, but I think the game would've been a hell of a lot better without it. I've chosen to completely ignore that aspect of the game and act as if it's not even there. It's much more enjoyable that way.
Sofa, how did you get it for 35.00?
I bought Super Mario Galaxy yesterday and got the TRU $25 dollar gift card, which I then used on Assassin's Creed.

Awesome game for $35 bucks.

I like the plot well the one. The other the game could do with out. I don't want to say to much with the game just coming out and the one I don't like being the one that no one really knew about.

I have to say I agree on everything you said SKK. The twist is lame and pointless. If you forget about it this game is great. If I would have kept up with this game and bought into all the hype that was on the net I dont think i would like this game.

The game is great other then the twist but if you forget that I would have to say this game is a 9 from what I have played so far. It starts slow but seems like it picks up quickly.

Fortunately, the "twist" was so poorly inserted into the game that it's actually rather easy to just ignore.

I got a chance to play it for about 90 minutes today.

The graphics are pretty amazing; From the architecture to the draw distance to the character animation, this title wows me. I am a self-admitted framerate whore and have not seen an instance of framerate drop.

The title does seem very linear- go here, do one of five or six mission, now go to the next waypoint. Climbing is fun as hell. Combat is still fun, but I think it will get old soon. It doesn't seem organic enough, instead it's rather binary.

Voice acting is pretty good except for the main character; Some of the accents are fake, but the worst is the voice of the main character, he sounds way too surferish to be in Jerusalem 1200 AD.

Recommendation: Continue on with R&C, COD4 and Super Mario Galaxy and wait for the inevitable price drop on this one. This would have been a stellar title in the dull drums of August, but In November, there are too many compelling games to run out and buy this one.

I love the Plot, its definetally interesting and makes me curious on what the hell is going on. And it's a nice break after running around killing people for hours straight.

The game is really great and acctually is better then what I thought it would be. I just love how you have to ride to each city.

My only complaints are that the Glowing Enemies STILL annoy me, ergh, why'd they have to do that!? It takes away from the game, instead of having a human guard chasing you, you have a glowing robot chasing you...

And at first the Side missions were lots of fun and were really cool... but they are all the same and once you get to the 2nd city you'll be like, "Uhm... the same side missions still? Really?"

I just hope it changes up eventually.

And how do you assassinate a target while jumping on top of him from a ledge? I cant do it...

How are the load times? I know the PS3 version initially takes about 3 mins for it to install on the HDD, and after that, there's hardly any load times. Does the 360 version suffer from any long load times, specifically on start up?

I got the limited edition last night, they drove up a bunch of copies from Chicago, only for those who reserved them.
Does anyone else think that the sound that you hear when you collect each of the twenty flags for the assassin sound exackly like the sound that you hear when you collect one of those gold stone things (I forget what they're called) in the first Turok for N64?

Game is pretty good.
But the tin for the limited edition is just HUGE, it has so much space still left in it when everything is in there.

The load times seem pretty normal to me.

what kind of side missions are there?
Are they kind of like Spiderman 2 where random people on the street ask you to do the same things over and over again? .....Cuz I found that to be pretty fun actually. After awhile you start figuring out different ways to jack around in the game lol
Did you get the LE? I'm heading out to pick mine up and was wondering what you thought of the figure that came with it.
I just got the regular edition, but GS was giving out little hardback (Art of Creed) books. Rather worthless.

Game is pretty damn good so far, the one thing I HATE is the voice acting for Altair, the actor sounds like they just pulled some jackass off the street to do it, whereas everyone else seems to fit. He sounds like a dumbass.

I'm obviously in a minority here but I don't mind the Twist at all, I think it was ballsy and kind of cool.

Without it, this game would have had to be named "Prince of Persia: The Crusades". And no, that wouldn't have been a good thing.

The twist/timeline fits if they ever want to do Assassin's Creed in another setting/time period. I don't mind that aspect at all, the gameplay is what matters and while I'm only shortly in (I just got to Damascus) I really like it so far.

Altair's voice actor should be shot and whoever hired him should never be allowed to cast a game actor again, he's probably banging Jade, only way I can see the idiot getting cast.

It's going to sell through the roof because of the hype (its already Gold) so a sequel is inevitable.

Here I uploaded pics of the front and back of the Limited edition for 360. Inside is just a tin can with the figure and a comic and the game. Nothin special.

The figurine is 6 inches tall, so you can see how big the Limited Edition box is in scale.

And here it is in my collection... displayed... =P

That's a pretty disappointing LE, but then again I bought the CoD4 CE and that was just an art book and behind the scenes DVD. Couldnt help it though since I got it for $55 anyway.

The nice thing about getting the game a day early was that the worker at gamestop didn't ask me if I wanted the strategy guide for another twenty bucks, since they didn't have it.

 I had Kane and Lynch pre-ordered when I went to pick up Assassins today, but I had decided to cancel it as Im getting it from Yourfree360games instead, so I used the (thought) surefire excuse of "I cant afford it right now, just gimme Assassins" to stop him from asking if I wanted to wait, but the guy still tried to upsell me to the LE AND the strat guide. Maybe he knew I was lying, but their upselling is really annoying.

Strategy guides are the biggest load of crap the gaming industry has ever created. I have never bought one/nor used one, as Id rather learn on my own, and shit they're free on the net anyway lol.

Yeah, it looks nice but they went overboard with the space.

GT review is up now.

Score 9.1 for anyone who has not seen it yet.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/27616.html

I am will be picking this up.

Oh by the way...here is a good read.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/

Some insight to all the bad reviews about AC. I am sure it wont change anyone minds entirely but at least it gives you another aspect.

EDIT:

By the fucking way. Notice how in the GT review he immediately starts talking about how FPS are the low risk and generally hight scoring, while original games are treated as "going out on a limb" titles.

I believe I was trying to make that very same comparison. Though it might not have been in the best of phrasing but it was the topic I was speaking about.

I am not saying I was 100% right in my assessment...but I was sure as damn hell wasnt wrong.

Initial load times are about 20 sec. In game load between regions are 'disguised'. You have control of your character in an empty realm (no location nor enemies). They are about 10 seconds or so.

This looks great but I have a backlog of games for the 360 as well as Mass Effect on the way. So, maybe a good rental for me?

Just put about 4 hours into it.

The reviewers are insane. This is a great game. Very much worth the purchase price of $60. In a sea of never ending FPS's (albeit good ones) this is a huge breath of fresh air.

It has it's problems, and it isn't perfect. But this game very much is a high 8 or 9.

I would agree with that.

I just put about 3 solid hours + 2 from this afternoon. I finally decided to start the assassinations and completed the first, and am now in Acre.

I definitely am enjoying it. There are flaws that can't be denied, I can tell the repetition is going to get boring as the game goes on, there is not going to be much variety in terms of the leadup to kills, however, I can tell I am going to have a lot of fun planning the kills and replay is there for trying them again.

It's got some genius to it. The control scheme is AWESOME. Once you get it down (5 minute learning curve) its almost second nature.

The biggest flaw to me as of now is still that damn voice actor for Altair. He just doesnt fit with the great voice acting that is present. The lack of music is a bit eh as well.

I'd say a solid 8 right now. Depending on how it plays out I could see it going to a 9 or down to as low as 6-7 though.

I do find the game very cute for how politically correct it is.

I love how they had to replace Saladin with some other dude. Of course you could argue that you belong to a different group of assassins than Saladin, but the parallels are erie, such as calling him 'old man' as in old man of the mountain, and the fact that he lives in a huge fortress carved into a mountain.

They can't say "praise alah" they have to say "praise somerandomname".

They also can talk a lot about the evil christian crusaders, but you never once hear any mention of Mohomed, Islam itself or any islamic docterine.... It's left incredibly vague. I think it's safe to say Ubisoft was afraid of one religion and not of another :)

Anyway, just some random observations. Liking the game a lot though.

You mean "Praise God"? That's what I've been hearing, and that's the same thing. Plus they said
They made everything into more modern english

Started with the training yesterday, wow I've been staying away from everything related to this game, didn't expect it to start off like that. Looks pretty interesting so far.

On another note, Best Buy has a stupid "Best Buy Exclusive Mini Strategy Guide" logo on the art cover itself...why couldn't they have a sticker on the outside, now my cover looks cheapened. I'll check out the Cover Art Project to see if I can find and print a new cover.

That sucks linkin. It's funny though, I got a mini strategy guide to... and I got it at Gamestop.

I would agree with that.

You know what the game is like to me? It's like the Control's team and the Art (and all its aspects) and the sound team go together and made this game great, they worked really hard and made the TRIPLE A title they wanted to, made it the game of the year.

Then the Quest team and HUD team came in late laughing not taking it serious and slapped together some side quests and hud. "Hmmm, how can we tell what Atliar is looking at? I know, why dont we make everything glow really brightly?" "Great idea! And lets just make a side quest where you have to save a peasant repeatedly. Nothing else. Just saving Peasants." "GENIOUS!"

They really couldnt think of any other side quests to help peasants? Why not a quest where you have to distract the guards (either by killing them, fighting them, or making them run away) while they try to steal something from behind them. Or help a group of civilians start a revolt against another group of guards. Or help some civilians fight another group of civilians. Or a civilian asks for his money back so you have to go interrogate someone. Or a civilian needs you to tell some news to another civilian across the city without the guards knowing.

They could really only think of Saving a Civilian from 3 guards for no random reason?

The voice acting is still annoying, its kinda like Kevin Costner's Robin Hood in a sense, a bunch of actors of a certain nationality (aside from Christian Slater and the chick, but throw them out) and Zack Morris as the lead guy.

Im on the 4th assasination, and the repetition is starting to grate a little as well. I fear the replay value will be low on this one.

Well I think I've put in enough time with it to be happy with my purchase. Sure there are the little repetative side-quests that don't really have substance, but the combat is just really fun. It's definately a collection-fan's game, with all those damn flags.

I really don't get how people can find the controls complicated. I love how simple free running is.

The controls are arguably one of the best things about the game, and its far more than sidequests that are repetitive ALL the investigations are repetitive, its the same thing every kill --- choose 2-3 of informer, pickpocket, eavesdrop, interrogate etc.

and Im sick of saving citizens but I do it to shut up the repetitive banter "Help me!!" "Die Thief!"

The combat is fun though, its very realistic swordplay but there is a lot of repetition with every kill, it also seems to lack a challenge, all of my deaths have been falls lol.

I am not getting tired of leaps of faith or climbing though.

I thought Desmonds voice isn't to bad.

But you're right, Altair sounds really crappy. Sam Fisher had a sweet voice, why can't Altair?!

The voice fits with Desmond, but you'd think that an ancestor of his wouldnt sound like he graduated from Bayside High especially with the damn story taking place in the middle east

Im not hating on the game -- Im enjoying it, but there are aspects of the game that the negative reviewers got right, namely the repetition and Altairs voice acting

I don't have a problem with his voice acting...guess I've just heard worse.

Actually I played Umbrella Chronicles before starting AC so maybe that's why his voice seems fine with me
