Atlanta CAG Thread, v2.0
^ Is this the GS right by the 5 guys Burgers and Fries? I called there with a question about the movie ticket promo yesterday and the guy that answered seemed bothered with my call and unsure of the answer. I mean he was nice enough I guess but now it makes sense if he was one of these two. I just knew that he wasn't one of the usual voices to answer. Kinda' sucks as that GS tended to have better staff members most of the time. Anybody have any advice as to another GS with mostly decent staffing? (I live just inside 285 between S. Atlanta and Paces Ferry but don't mind a bit of driving.)
Yes it is. Is Five Guys any good, by the way?

Yeah, Danny and Thomas are gone. Thomas went to Movie Stop (he was the blonde spaz who always had his sunglasses on his head, and could sell an air conditioner to an eskimo... that isn't a criticism, Thomas is a good kid') I dont know what happened to Danny. The new manager and asm are Mike and Thomas (a different Thomas). I forget which is which, but both are, in my opinion, slightly shady and not terribly competant.

At this point, I'm pretty much resigned to going out to Acworth. Chad and Jennifer are great with Customer Service. I dont get the special treatment I used to get in Hiram, but whatever. Thom in the Avenues on Dallas Highway is only if they have something in stock that I can't find anywhere else.

...I gotta try the stores in Douglasville again soon.

Thanks for the ideas/opinions about GS staff. As for 5 guys, I think they have some good stuff. The fry portions are crazy big, 2 or 3 people can share 1 order without question. The cajun fries are great if you like a bit o' spice. A heads up, the regular hamburger/cheeseburger is a double burger. If you want a single burger, order the little hamburger/cheeseburger, same size patty and bun. If you like to put a bunch of stuff on your burgers 5 guys is great as the only things that cost extra are cheese and bacon. I tend to have at least a half dozen toppings or more per burger. (It helps even us out as my wife is a cheese and ketchup kinda' gal.) Also, they have Strawberry Fanta on the fountain which I never see anywhere else and is delicious mixed with Coke (IMHO).

5 Guys is good stuff in a greasy burger joint that's a little different than the rest kinda way.

I got the last PS3 Buzz at the Lenox TRU. Coupled it with a Blastworks for $15 total (B1G1 1/2 off). They have a PS3 Singstar bundle, a SStar Pop vol 2 (PS2), several SStar PS3 vol 2 game only, a Sstar 80s, a Stoked, a few Head Coach, a few Buzz Hollywood ($5!), Buzz Jungle whatever, a blastworks. Everything was properly marked at this store.

On SATURDAY, the TRU on Pleasant Hill had a PS3 Buzz and some PS2 Buzzes, some PS3 Singstar bundles, a couple SStar Country bundles, Volume 2 bundles, some Pop vol 2s and a few other Sstars. I was scoping out Buzz for PS3 since I was already next door, I have no idea what's there today.

Dang, that PS3 Bluetooth Headset that's packed in with Socom sells for $50 at TRU by itself.

[This is all in reference to a thread in the main Deals section.]

ATL Cags,

Just figured I'd try to contribute for once, instead of just lurk: the FYE at Discover Mills had the "5.00 for Halo 3 after rebate" sign up until I asked about it. The (less than confident) employees scratched their collective heads, then declared it 'must have just been a weekend thing' and took the sign down. The sign said it should ring up at 29.99, but as of Monday afternoon it was back to scanning at 39.99. Presumably the current 20-dollar rebate offer would print out with your receipt. Jumping from 5 to 20 seemed like too much to me, so I walked.

-- Andy

In retrospect, I don't know why I turned up my nose at "Halo 3" for 20 bucks... just felt stiffed for missing the deal I guess.

Five Guys is good, and you should definitely have a Fry Buddy when you go. Regular order = 2 people, Large order = 3 people.

I have realized that I need to return those T2 Bluray/PS3 remote packs that I bought (2x) for $15 a while back. Zhar mentioned interest, but didn't get back to me. If anyone wants one in the Roswell/Midtown corridor this week, speak now.

I won't eat the fries at 5 Guys just because of how awful they are for you but they cook up a really good burger. A regular and a drink is a good meal in itself. I usually go to the one next to the Gamers Trade on 41 in Acworth once a month or so.

I agree, Gwen, Chad and Jennifer are good peeps at the Acworth Gamestop. I don't go often but the couple of times I have, they know their stuff. Last time I was at Douglasville, it was pretty busy a couple of months ago and think things have gone downhill since the first time I was there in 2007. I also like the people at the one on Barrett Pkwy next to CD Warehouse. I also have a friend, Dan, who works as a manager at the Lenox Mall one, never been there though. Last, the one on Roswell Rd in Marietta is also a favorite of mine.

The ATL S. Target has 2-3 copies of Afro Samurai for 360 at 14.98 (75% off).

Also, has anyone seen at Price of Persia (360), The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (360), Saints Row 2 (360), or Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe (360) at the 75% mark yet?

I'm really interested in LotR: Conquest (despite the reviews).

Thanks!

----
Sorry El Gray, I got really busy and didn't have a chance to get back with you about those blu-ray packs and it slipped from my radar. I actually found a blu-ray copy of T2 on "as-is" clearance for ~$2! :)

I really don't frequent GS's much but if I do need to go to one it's the one on Barrett Pkwy. in Kennesaw between B&N and CD Warehouse. Chris is the store manager there and is far and away the best GS employee I've ever dealt with (no, I'm not Chris :)).

mitch and neo: Thanks for adding opinions on GS staffers, so far Acworth and Barrett lead with 2 votes each.

Cochese: Why retire from gaming? When burned out just take a short or extended sabbatical!;)

Agreed, the store itself is ridiculously cramped. The other GS right down the street in the Wal-Mart center is nice and spacious though.

True. Related, I went to the Kennesaw mall the other day (malls aren't really my thing, but i'm making myself go out a bit to different places) and the hole in the wall EB that used to be there was moved and is a pretty nice store. The girl there was... not terribly intelligent, but she was nice enough.

Pennied guides are available at the BBs in Snellville (even marked with .01 tags except Haze) and the one on Pleasant Hill. Both still had several will post titles I remember when I get more time later. Oh, and I got CoD:MW guide pennied, but it's not listed in the penny guide thread.

Really- that's a drive for me though.

Edit: If someone wants to get me a COD:MW; Endwar and if possible a MGS4 LE (lol) I will gladly subsidize your gas there and pay shipping.

Yesterday PH had 1 Endwar, a few GoW2LE, a few SR2, two Res2, several Mario Brawl, a few Madworld, a few Haze, a few CoDMW, 1 GTAL&D, 2 GTA CW, no MG4LE or SMGLE.

Snellville this morning had 1 GoW2LE, a few Res2, several Brawl and Haze and Madden, 1 GTA L&D a few GTA CW, a few Madworld, no MG4LE or SMGLEand I got the last Endwar and CoD. Feel free to ask about others I may have forgotten to take note of.

HB, I'll see if I can stop by (I usually go right by there on my way to work) and snag those for you, but it'll tomorrow at the earliest since I'm at work till midnight now.

Wow, some Gears 2 LE's . . . I'll take one of those if you get lucky. Also, if you're looking for any guides from the previous few drops CML. At least some of the ATL BBy had some guides, just not mine.

Thanks for the effort as well.

I thought about picking up an extra couple of GoW2LEs for CAGs, but didn't want to take them all and others not find any and then not find anyone who wanted them as I have no room for extras. I was surprised to find any let alone both stores I checked and when I did I thought there was no way they would be pennied as they are pretty frickin sweet. I'll look for one of those for you, too.

BTW, I accidentally picked up a second Saint's Row 2 guide if anyone wants it as I don't think I'll take it back for a penny refund.

If no one else wants it I'll take that as well, it's in my backlog and I got zilch for guides yesterday.

Nothing has gone wrong. I think I've had time to play about ten times this year. I have very little time to do gaming, or even movie watching.
Yesterday PH had
What's PH? I'm sure I'll recognize it when someone tells me. But at the moment i'm drawing a blank.

Just came in from Edgewood Target and saw a few things:
Xbox 360 Prince of Persia $30 (had 15+)
Xbox 360 Need for Speed Undercovere ($25) (had around 10)
Xbox 360 Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts ($20) (had around 5)

They had a few others, but there were only 1 or 2 left of the others.

I've had that damnable "real life in the way" problem before myself!
Stupid real life! Sometimes it doesn't seem worth the trouble!:bomb:

Last time I bought some games in that Gamestop the girl actually looked through all their copies to find me the best condition ones, without me having to ask. Other stores always act like it is a hassle to check for you, so it was a nice surprise.

Well I went into the GS on the EW connector today as I was in the area. There were 3 people working. Griff, a new girl in her first few days of training, and some guy named Jeff I hadn't seen before. It was good that Griff was there as the Jeff guy was a total toolbox claiming that a current promotion wasn't going on rudely and repeatedly and not even bothering to check. When Griff got out his marketing book and indicated that lo and behold I was correct and it was a current one Jeff acted as if he hadn't been acting foolish about it, walking away and ignoring me for the rest of my time there. If Griff wasn't there I would've walked for sure. Here's to hoping he trains the new girl and not this Jeff character!

Consequently, GS doesn't want my old 360 X-plorer guitar controller (the wired, white one) and neither do I. So I'm making it free to a good home. It's a little old now and I think the whammy bar is about to go. It also has some stickers on it due to my boredom and disdain for a plain white look. If anyone is interested and can pick it up (near Vinnings) let me know and we'll make it happen. I'd just rather it went to a gamer instead of a dumpster.
Why not practice with some customization and a new whammy bar? Vinyl spray is your friend.
Haha, you're like the Martha Stewart of gaming. And Uncharted 2 looks great!

ca. 1983 maybe.

And now that you mention it, when I asked a question, she did her best to give the most informed answer she could (checked the floor, the backroom, and then the stores inventory). So she gets a gold star for customer service.

Acworth Target is out of NFS: Underground. grrr. But they do have about twenty :360: copies of some wwf wrestling game on an endcap (sorry, I didn't pay attention to the title or the price). And one copy of Samba Di Amigo for 7.48 on that same endcap.

Best I can suggest for an arcade is Dave & Busters.

I remember one that sounds very much like that that was at the Cobb Galleria, right across from the (now closed) movie theater. I had several birthday parties there in the 80s (usually in combo with a movie across the way). Marathon quarter pumping punctuated by chili cheese fries. Miss that place.

Was that where it was? I was living in Dalton at the time and got to go about 2x a year so I am really foggy on the local. I just remember that the whole presentation of the place with the lighting, air-lock with count-down timer, chrome . . etc. was just an overwhelming experience- especially for a young kid.

If you have any pics I would love to see any.

Alas no, only in my head. But it featured a lot of blue and purple neon, if I recall, and I vaguely remember the chrome timer thing, so I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same place. And it was in a mall environment that a kid from OTP could easily mistake for Lenox. It was split level, with booth seating where you could eat, and I think video games around the top and sides. Large windows faced the movie theater on the opposite side with the walkway running between.

Yea, I am pretty sure that was it now. I was in arcade gamer heaven there. Good times.

I wasn't in Georgia during the 80s. I moved here from Dallas in '89. Oh man, we had some EPIC HUGE arcades back in Texas. There was an enormous one at the Galleria, and Redbird Mall near where I used to live in Duncanville had a really, really huge one. Man I miss the 80s. HS and college (the 90s) were fun, but if I had a Delorean with a flux capacitor i'd go back and relive the 80s all over again.

My favorite wasn't one of the best for games, nor was it strictly just an arcade, but I had great memories from there. Pipe Organ Pizza in the Promenade, which I think was in Richardson. I loved that place. And those times.

Ah, the Galleria... I was probably skating in the rink while you were at the arcade, Enron. Remember watching the people jog on the roof?

If you get the Delorean working, take me with you.

Man, when I was a kid, I thought that indoor skating rink was the most asskickingest thing ever. The Galleria was like an amusement park to me. Where did you live? Like I said, I was a Duncanvillan 1981-1989 (before Duncanville turned into mini-Oak Cliff). We had a pizza joint in duncanville right on the main strip called Brother's Pizza, and they had a mini-arcade in there. I used to PUMP quarters into 1942, Bad Dudes, Sidearms, and Heavy Barrel.

The Redbird Mall arcade at one point had FOUR of those Afterburner sit-down cabs that tilted up/down and banked along with the movement of your plane. Now Redbird Mall is a giant empty shell that sits in a now crime-ridden area off I20. I miss arcades.

Choose the regional forums, atlantic south. There's an ATL thread. We have a big scene, some guys are bitches, but me and my friends are doing our best to grow it as big as we can and we've steadly increasing the scene the best ways we can for
You just missed Final Round in March. Final Round is the biggest fighting game tournament in the south. We had 254 people for street fighter IV alone. We also have stuff like Super Turbo, CvS2, Marvel Cs. capcom 2, couple of SNK games, Tekken, etc.

Check out the forums, just don't mind the dumbasses. They talk a good game and then come in last for most tournaments.

Wasn't the one in Lenox tucked in the bottom corner of the food court? I didn't go there very often but I remember it was pretty big for an arcade back then. The Goldmine at Northlake Mall was my fav :D Showing my age on this post.
