Batman Arkham Asylum - Gen. Discussion & Info
Definitely not difficulty, I flew threw it on Easy.

Perhaps a certain number of riddles found? Maybe how many times you died playing that boss?

How many times did you die at Killer Croc? I think he killed me like three times.
Didn't die at Croc or Bane, but Scarecrow spotted me a few times. Maybe it's just random, setting up all the villains for a return in the sequel or DLC.
Hey, anyone doing well on the combat challenges. I suck at it. What strategies work the best to get the longest combos? I think my problem is button mashing and timing my attacks.

Does anyone have any advice to give me to help me out? God! This is frustrating!
Try to work in as many different moves as you can. This includes X, countering, the batarang, the batclaw, and the ground takedown (RT+Y).

In addition to using as many different moves as you can, of course try to keep the combo going as far as you can. Don't button mash. If you punch the air instead of an enemy, you'll lose your combo. Time your button presses. Remember to double tap A to avoid enemies, you won't lose your combo.

Traken, what's the trick? I mean, how do you move around using the left stick? When is the right time to hit the X button? I think I just have bad habits.

That's pretty cool about the multiple endings. I definitely saw Banes arm on mine. I was playing on normal difficulty and only died to Scarecrow once and Joker once. Didnt die to either Croc or Bane though. I'm very curious to see what the criteria is for each different ending. I'd assume its riddles solved or something like that, or what percentage you had the game completed when you ended story mode (I had 74%).
Just look on the bottom right hand side of the screen. There's a swirling white thing that comes up when its saving. Basically as was said, whenever the game loads up a new area it'll save
Thanks so much for this info. I had not noticed the swirl thing until you mentioned it. It's nice to know I can just go into another room and it will save.

I was really planning on finding faults with the game and trying to combat the fanboy overexcitement and point out the flaws they were blinded to, but dammit if it isn't just a fucking awesome game. ;) I'm about 3/4 of the way through storywise and I just can't believe how much stuff they got right. Amazing.
For the people that has beat it. Around how many hours did you put in it?
Also I just beat the Scarecrow part 2. How much do I have left?
I'd say it took me around 15-17 hours. I didn't completely rush through, but I also didn't try to find every single hidden thing either.

I'm actually not sure how long it took me, I think it was 12 or under, getting 75% complete (going to go back and get the missing riddles soon). Does the game really have a timer anywhere, that says time played? I'm interested to know myself, but I'm assuming it was about 12 or so.

Either way, this game is absolutely amazing.

Same here, I really thought it was just going to be a Fanboys game. But It really is quite a good game. I recently just beat it, Sorta rushing through but then also solving riddles and what not. I'd say I spent a good maybe 12 hours on it. But I beat it and Thought it was good. The one thing I didn't like was Scarecrow's appearance for some reason. But I can't wait for another one to come out with more villians.

You mean the way they made Scarecrow look, or his actual parts in the game? I very much enjoyed his sections of the game, especially the second one I believe it was. I thought his look was great too, really creepy.

I think the set-up for the scarecrow stuff (not necessarily the platforming parts themselves) are what really elevate this to a great Batman game.
This thread is so full of spoilers, it's crazy! I am so tempted to look!
Just go to the PS3 Batman thread since those fuckers refuse to use spoiler tags.

I meant his actual costume. I did like the Scarecrow levels as well. Hell the whole game was really good. But
I was so damn CONFUSED trying to find Dr. Youngs Office till I looked up at the vent, that took me a good hour
I already know too much!
Don't yell stuff like that! That stuff will get you killed in some circles. ;)

Yeah I noticed this early on when people first got the game. I have it for PS3 but I only browse/post in here .

I am about 1/2 way done with the game right now. Today was the first time I almost smashed my controller in frustration. The game has been pretty easy for the most part but a certain room today about made me kill myself. It's the room where
the Joker plants mines on the gargoyles and you have to deal with the SEVEN armed guards and get out of the room by deactivating the force fields on the doors. I seriously think I played that part for an hour before I was able to do it.

Well,
Take your time. Try not to swing around and if you do. Make it fast and where they can't see you. I pretty much took out one guy at a time and then hid in the vent. Then slowly one after another, take them out.

That section was probably one of my only complaints so far (minor though). I like what they were going for, trying to change things up a little and maybe add more strategy, but in practice all I ended up doing was hiding in that same vent and waiting for the AI loop to bring guys back underneath. More tedious than anything

cgarb84;6233251 It's the room where [SPOILER said:

For this I
took out the initial guy then quickly sprayed the explosive gel around the body. Found a safe hiding place on the level below and waited for the others to check on the body. When they got near I detonated the bomb stuning 3 of them. I quickly went up and finished them off. This made it very easy to pick off the remaining 3 thugs.

Gotta remember, it's called freeflow combat for a reason. I do so much better in the challenges when I remember to zip from guy to guy. I also need to learn how to work in these special combos, I keep seeing the prompt for the quick takedown (B + Y) but I just stun the guy then counter the air which gets me nothing except a combo counter reset.

PS: I want to buy the freaking soundtrack and pretty please an artbook too! I wonder if we'll ever see either.

Just finished up finding all the riddles and then I solved the mystery of Arkham Asylum. I did'nt use any guide and found it incredibly satisfying and fun!

How do you destroy the walls that are elevated? And how do you get into air vents that are elevated also? Can you backtrack at all? Because I know I missed a riddle that was behind a breakable wall before I had the tool that would do it.

You can backtrack to anywhere on the island. Don't worry, you'll find a way to get anywhere and destroy every breakable wall.

Beat the game about 5 hours ago, and took another 3 hours to get all the riddles. I had to look up how to get one of the Spirit of Arkham,
the Botanical Gardens one in Abandoned Chamber, because I spent an hour hopping up and down that room and couldn't find it.

As for the combat,
Poison Ivy was probably the most fun, but probably the easiest to me too. A few of the rooms I died a few times, like the bird cage and the rigged gargoyles, till I was like, screw sneaking around waiting for the best time, and instead went and killed half the room as fast as I could, which by luck worked better for me).

Total, I think I spent about 15 hours on the game, and that's getting 239 riddles without outside help, and the first challenge map a few times to practice fighting. Would probably have been a lot faster if I had just ignored the riddles till the end, because I'm sure I took a lot of time looking for stuff and then finding out I didn't have the tool for it. I didn't find anything in the game that repetitive (it would be if every room had gargoyles, because inverted takedown is uber), except for most of the boss fights.

I beat the game last night. It was a great game.
Am I the only one that did not like the final boss battle? It reminded me of the pointless last fight in Bioshock, tacked on just to have a final boss battle.

ok I just beat the game.......

This is quite possibly THE BEST Batman game I have ever played. I originally thought this was going to be a beat 'em up all the way but it just about even amount of that and detective work plus ? hunting.

beat it at 71% complete with 133/240 riddles, 17/20 upgrades and 21/42 bios

whatever you do, DO NOT SKIP THE CREDITS!!! a little surprise is in store at the end!

can't wait for a sequel!

Bah, I'm really stuck on that titan fight with the waves of henchmen. I can't keep track of the titan and henchmen at the same time. I also can't figure out this damn quick takedown move, I always get my combo meter up then I try the B + Y and all I get is a stun.

...What are the other contenders?

Its a certain gadget you get later in the game that allows you to rip off the vents. Then later you get a upgrade to it that allows you to break those walls. Don't worry about those for now. You can always backtrack.

Batman: Vengeance was a pretty good Batman game. Even had Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill doing the voices.

That said, I love this game.. can't get enough of it, everything is just so polished, and it shows. Best superhero game I've ever played bar none.

I've solved every riddle except the greatest mystery and the puzzles with many sides but only some are visible. And the remaining teeth in the mansion. How I wish I had the map for Intensive Treatment.

Loving this game. Just beat Harley Quinn. Goddam is Poison Ivy hot. This is the first game to completely freeze my 360 since Fallout 3. Froze up on me right as I was about to scan Scarface's tommy gun.

You can skip the credits, the video plays afterwards.

I just 1000'd the game earlier today. Great game. The combat challenges frustrated me a ton, but otherwise very A+ game.

just got my last achievement

ending spoiler
i've seen both endings with Bane [ beat it on hard ] and Scarecrow [ beat it on medium ], are there any others or just those 2?

There's one more, and I dont think it has to do with difficulty because I got the third one (the one you dont have listed) and I beat it on hard.

Please help me settle an argument my co-host (who hasn't played the game yet) and I had on our new episode of the podcast that will come out in a few days.

I said the Riddler challenges break down to finding the Riddler trophies and interview tapes, scanning items in the enviroment to either answer his riddles or scanning the spider statues to hear the ghost of Armadeus Arkham explain his version of the history of Arkham, and killing Joker teeth.

He says there are Riddler challenges that require you to find question marks either painted in the environment or carved into the environment (bricks in a floor arranged in a ? when looking above them for example.)

Which one of us is right? If I'm wrong I feel like an idiot as I have all but 3 of the story achievements completed.
Only have Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, and whatever the end with Joker is left.

I talk about the 2 flaws I can find in the game on my podcast coming out later this week, but otherwise like you said it's amazing.

I'm just one riddle away from 240!!!! Can't seem to find it though, every building and every section of Arkham are clear. Even the caves. This is going to drive me nuts!!

I think it's the last Spirit of Arkham story...guess I've got to figure that one out...must not...use internet....

It's fairly obvious who it is if you listen to all the chronicles over again.

Now having finished it, I actually wasn't too hot on the last 1/4 or so of the game. Still good, but I thought it kind of just devolved from what it had built up for the first 3/4.

You're right and I got that riddle but I'm still showing 239/240, I'm not sure what I'm missing. There aren't any question marks on any of my maps and each section is cleared in my start menu but still no Crack The E Nigma achievement.

Just bought this today and played it for 4ish hours. Man, this is a fantastic game! Its incredibly fun and not at all as repetitive as I thought it looked. The voice acting is some of the best I've seen in a game, very engaging. The riddles are a nice touch that'll keep me coming back. I can't wait to play more tomorrow!

Yeah, the final Spirit of Arkham bit isn't required for that achievement.

Do you have all the maps? They won't ever show up on the game map for obvious reasons. Neither will Joker Teeth, for that matter, so you may want to check those.

Also, there are a few trophies on the rocks out in the water in the Caves, you may have missed one of those.
