Battlefield Bad Company 2; Vietnam (1200 points) out; plus 4 new free maps
Do I need to dl the 1.6GB Vietnam update just to start playing online again? I don't plan on buying the Vietnam expansion, so I'd rather not use up all that space. It keeps telling me I can't find any matches.
Yes -- because it's also a balance update.

Are games still pretty full for this game? I noticed it's dropped really far down on the XBL games played list (#17). I really want to get Nam. I'm hoping the new maps and the Nam expansion bring ppl back.

Depends on the type of game. Everytime I have played Rush the games are still 10+ on 10+. Conquest on the other hand it was a little hit or miss on a few games. IMO None of the multiplayer matches on any other FPS (i.e. Black Ops, Reach, etc) have come anywhat close to the greatness of Bad Company 2.

When do you get the g3? I really want it OR some sort of gun close to the FAL. I like the guns that shoot one bullet at a time unlike the snipers. I guess I'm just use to the FAL from MW2 and what not.
I'm a sucker for deals on points, but I won't even deal with Fingerhut.
Yeah, I have read a lot of people who have a great displeasure about Fingerhut. What convinced me was that some people here on CAG and SD's said they have been around for a while so I went ahead and purchased 2.

I agree, it does vary. Hydro has caught me playing in Conquest with 2v2 or 3v2 in the old maps. I noticed that when I choose to start playing in Oasis, and after the 2 rounds are up, it goes to an old map (I think Laguna Alta). I look at the players list and several people have dropped out. I'm assuming it is to play the new maps.

M-14...meet your new favorite gun. I think its unlocked at 19.

I can't remember and I don't know if they have a page where you can see the unlock tree. Here is a page that will let you see all weapons/gadgets for each class (link).

And this guy analyzed the shit out of the weapons (link).

Since we can't seem to get something hard-set, I'll propose:

Thursday. 10 PM EST. Going to work on Onslaught Hardcore. I know lolwut is in if he's available at that time, we'll need two more. More than two are definitely welcome, we'll just split into groups of 4.

Let me know if you are in. Please be able to fly a helicopter because I sure as hell can't.

Yeah, I'll definitely be on for that. Also, please don't ask to join if A) you're garbage or B) you don't have a mic.

I dunno how Kane feels about this, but I know some of the guys on the forum are in the "who carez about being gud; i play 4 fun lolz" camp, and that's great, play the game how you want, but I don't find getting raped by the AI to be "fun;" if you know you won't really be able to help us out in beating the missions, don't ask for an invite.

That said, let's get 'em CAGs

I just bought this game to play online with my new xbox. I bought the ultimate edition. Are you guys saying that there is hardly anyone playing this? I get my 1yr live card in a few days. I really enjoy the battlefield franchise but if hardly anyone plays I might as well return it.

Yeah. I don't ask much, just don't be a moron...don't jump in the chopper if you're going to crash it into the sea 5 seconds later. Don't hang around near a bunch of enemies if you're the last man standing, etc. Run like a bitch and find some cover until we get respawns, then SPREAD OUT to more cover until we have a full squad again. I don't even mind some fucking around if we're playing regular multiplayer, but Onslaught Hardcore is pretty unrelenting so you need to have at least a little method to your plan of attack.

lolwut and I were in a game just now with one guy who seemed fairly competent, but the other dude basically dragged the whole team down. That's not going to cut it.

I never have trouble finding a game. If you're playing at like 5 am, then yeah, you'll probably wind up in some 4 on 4 matches or whatever, but during normal hours it seems fine to me.

anyone know of any promos for the expansion, be it deals or any avatar stuff, etc? still debating whether I should drop 1200 msp on this, haven't played in months.

off topic, but can you leave me feedback for our trade :D
Please be able to fly a helicopter because I sure as hell can't.
lmao .. if I had Onslaught I would definitely run pilot for you.
To date, I still can't fly the helicopters; though I never really took the time to learn since the people I normally play with can.
Yeah, same here. I just haven't really done it much and at this point if I try to learn I pretty much become a liability on my team, so I stick to what I'm ok at. I guess I could start a private match and work on it, but this game really could have used some kind of free-form "training mode."

I think what's most confusing to me is that the UAV and Helicopters have different controls .. which if you're going to have air vehicles, why not make the controls similar? It took me forever to get the helicopter controls, and I'm still not 100% as a pilot by any means, but I'm better than the majority of the players I've seen.

However, I do find it hilarious when you see low ranks get into the heli and watch it spin out of control, bouncing off trees/buildings or even the giant windmills on Heavy Metal. hahaha

Yeah that drives me crazy, Im still a long way from being good at either.

if i am on on thursday 10pm EST, i can do onslaught. i have them already, and can sit and spawn if you want. some of those last points were most difficult

Reminder - tonight at 10 EST for anyone who can show up.

Hopefully we won't have issues joining each other in a game. I know that has been an issue in the past. We'll have to do what we can.

I'll start a party at 10, just join up when you see me. If you haven't added me yet and want in, send me a FR.

HAHA, I'm glad I'm not the only Bad Company vet who can't fly the choppers. I've logged a lot of hours in both games, and for the life of me, I never got the flying down.

I can't fly a chopper for shit. But I can drive the hell out of a main battle tank.

It makes me nuts when people jump into a tank and use it as a taxi to the next mcom station or flag, and just get it blown up in 30 seconds.

I treat that tank as a precious resource, and approach each battle carefully and tactically. I can often keep the same tank for half the game or more, and destroy multiple mcoms with it.

I'd join you guys but..seeing as you guys hate noobs. I'l wait till I'm a bit better.

Just got my first next gen console a 360 and played BF today for the first time. Big time noob.

I would also like to mention that BF takes Call of Duty, rolls em up and wipes his ass with it.

Which game type are you planning to play?

I'm out for tonight guys..but I'm wide open on Sunday and possibly on Saturday night for anyone else who wants do some some Onslaught and multiplayer.

I also can't fly a Heli for nothing...but I am a mean Wingman. Just call me Goose.

Ive played alittle more than that but Im still only at a 1.0 k/d ratio so I have a way to go too.
Am I the only one who doesn't really care about the k/d ratio in this game?
It does give a good idea of how good a player you are imo. To be fair though I know myself and I think others have gave up alittle to star some weapons they really normally wouldnt use. But for the most part I think it gives a idea of how good a player is. Not the absolute factor but I think it helps.

Actually it doesn't measure how good you are. Battlefield is a TEAM based multiplayer. If I played sniper, I could sit back for hours and rape people but instead I help my TEAM out by going after m-comm stations during rush, going after flags in conquest, repairing tanks, reviving teammates, etc. All which put someone more at risk to death.

K/D = camping. That isn't me...

I just don't think the K/D ratio shows how good you are. I think it shows you can kill people without dying a lot which is good when your attacking, but I mean I always played for the SPM or PPM in 1942. I can be on top of a team a lot with a shitty K/D ratio but with a good 1500+ points. Maybe it's me anymore, but I just think a good player would have a better SPM then a K/D ratio. I guess times are changing and so are the players. Looks Like I'll only play with a selected few from CAG since my K/D ratio is crappy.

More risk for death yes, the better you are the less you will die. No doubt your gonna have the guys that cant do jack but snipe or fly choppers pr camp. But if your good your k/d ratio should somewhat reflect it

Ok, so didn't see anyone show up last night. Hung out for about 30 minutes...wowimsocute did check in with me later on but I had already given up. Will be playing most of the weekend in Onslaught, then will be playing regular next week until I finish my Recon Spectact achievement...if you see me in-game feel free to message me, at this point I'm accepting the fact that I'll be playing with at least one or two randoms.

Maybe if we were playing Squad-deathmatch, then yes. However, just because someone had a 1337 K/DR doesn't mean they are "skillful" in an objective based gametype. I've seen plenty of people who have borderline 3.0 K/D's but their most used weapons/equipment are the Apache and the M24. I'm not saying Sniping doesn't have its purpose. Every team should have 2-3 snipers, but no more. Someone needs to be there to pick off certain enemies at variable points. But when people are just sitting back being bush wookies, going for kills to boost their K/DR, they aren't being good at the game.

Not to mention how BORING it makes the game. I've been playing BF since 1942 and it's my favorite MP franchise, but I absolutely HATE when I'm on defense and nearly an entire team is sitting back trying to get SiCKxSniipezxx v2. Half of the damn time they don't even succeed. I just sit around hopelessly waiting for something to shoot in an FPS.

I just got my replacement copy of BFBC2 and I don't mind doing some Hardcore Onslaught. And the best thing is.. I know how to fly choppers. I'll shoot you guys friend requests and we will do it tonight if there's time. Also I'm not good for early Saturday night - Spike VGAs will be on.

Yes to a degree. But again it is all about being a team player. K/D means crap in this game. I say this and I have a better k/d than you, playing countless more games. Anyone can hide in Squad Deathmatch or Conquest and kill tons of people without dying.

People that work in squads rape all the time. It's why my tank normally last the entire round in rush. It's why myself and my teammates normally are at the top of the leaderboard per round. It's because we actually work as a team supporting each other, spotting for each other, and going after objectives. I leave it like this... the best players in this game use communication and listen. As long as they do that, they are a good player in my eyes. This game is all about packs.

That's unfortunate, I need to finish my OnSlaught on Hardcore too. I'll sent a FR, I'm game :D

More gameplay footage released today for BF:BC2 Vietnam :D
^ What he said.
Agreed, not to mention the fact that even a little bit of teamwork makes a LOT of difference - I can get in a game with randoms, but if we communicate a bit and help each other, you can STILL take over a match filled with people just going off and doing whatever.

If you get a good squad of friends together that are used to teaming together, forget it. Most of the time you'll clean house.

'Nam vid looks good...Hill 137 is visually pretty amazing. Can't wait.

Got this in from Gamefly with VIP code intact yesterday. Been playing it a lot the last few days and find it to be a much more satisfying mutliplayer experience than either COD Black Cops or Halo Reach. I'll probably be playing this for a good while, especially with the Vietnam expansion coming out soon! If anyone needs a good, active teammate for their squad, just let me know or hit me up with a friend request. I'd always like to play with a group!

I bought the ultamite edition so I have the codes for vip onslaught and 1943 but haven't used them yet till I upgrade the 4gb.

I'll be on in a couple of hours if anyone want s to play with this noob.

The Live handle I was issued is Behavingwharf73

You do realize that you can make your own Live "handle", right? If it's taken they give you choices of premade crap -- but you don't HAVE to take their suggestions.

Yes, they issued me that one and allow me one free tag change. I'm still thinking about what tag to use.
Where the fuck is the music?
Lol, from Vietnam Hardware #7: The Sounds of the 60's:
Hi Magnus! As Senior Sound Designer, what was your gut reaction to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam?
-- I remember thinking "Let's make this an homage to our original Battlefield: Vietnam game!" Then I started thinking about NVA propaganda, 60's music blasting from vehicles, and flame-throwers. The Vietnam War is most likely the war in history that has the strongest link to a specific soundscape. So when we looked at all the possibilities this gave us, we kind of felt like kids in a candy store.
I'm assuming you'll only hear it in tanks, light vehicles, etc.

Yea but they showed boats and it didn't have any music. That's what he was probably referring to. All the previews said the boats and helo's have music.

I have a (maybe) unused vip code if anyone wants it:
6LJWZE59NRB8PMPK

I got the game from gamefly again and i dont need the code so feel free to take it.
