Battlefield: Bad Company - Gen. Discussion & Info

This beta's a bit of alright! Definitely love the guns and the vehicles are pretty exciting. It's not taking me more than 2 tries to get in a room and I'm winning each time we play a match. Specialist class is where it's at with the fast firing SMGs and silencer attachments. Also, this Goldrush mode is awesome (more so for the Attackers). I love how destroying the crates opens up a totally different part of the map.

After about 30 minutes of playing, overall I think:

Pros
Goldrush mode is awesome and very refreshing.
Destructible environments change the pace/decisions of your individual game.
The option to spawn with teammates or at the base is a great feature.
So many vehicles, guns, and mounted weapons - literally 100 different ways to kill someone.
Button configuration is easy to get used to (but different from every other shooter).
Smiley faces on the grenade pins!

Cons
No friend invites (at least yet - I don't know if they can/will be able to change that).
Not hearing a lot of the action in the respawn screen.
Not enough notification/feedback that you are getting hurt/shot. (My main complain about Battlefield games)
Needs a spawn shield (like 5 seconds of invulnerability).

***I really don't get the hate against this beta so far. Is it because this game isn't Call of Duty 4? Is it the buttons, the gameplay...what? I only see general statements like "This game sucks!" but not like a reason why.
I don't like the game because its not any fun.
;)

The game feels like a war more so then any other game I have played(or so I would imagine I havent been in one)but my biggest con of the whole Battlefield series is the way the game gives away your position. I know where people are because the game tells me where they are, not because I saw them. I would probably love this game without having red dots over all of my enemies heads

Anyway its a fun beta though wont buy it but may rent it

I don't like the game because it's not fun. That's not a general statement. The controls suck, gold rush isn't really any fun. The vehicle controls are pathetic. It's hard to see what you're shooting at. The weapons aren't really useful, not to mention the whole XBLM weapon thing. The weapons are all pretty much the same. There's no more parachutes. The game in general is a big step back from Battlefield Modern Combat.

My pros/cons are the same as Tha Xecutioner's.

Vehicle controls are kinda weird, but once you get used to them they are fun. Weapon accuracy doesnt seem to change if you are shooting full auto or short controlled bursts.

Gold Rush is pretty nice change from standard TDM/DM. You can move when planting charges on gold crates if you're the attacking team.

I wouldnt buy the game, but would rent it if you can invite friends to games.

When you start up a custom game if you read the note at the bottom it mentions inviting friends, so I think that will be implemented later. In general I find the game to be quite fun, but this ain't battlefield. This is Enemy Territory and Battlefield combined in many ways. The game doesn't even compare to the awesomeness of the PC versions, but if you can get your peeps together to play this game should be a blast. Also the beta should get better once people stop playing so shitty. Granted I have a ton of Battlefield experience, but there is no way I should have won the last 8 games in a row while practically imposing my will on the opposition.
I concur, the beta blows. COD4 beta didn't blow.
I agree. Bad Company seems like Soliders of Fortunes graphics mixed with Fuels of War gameplay. If COD5 has tanks/vehicles, more online players per mode, & etc it would be one of the best FPS games ever.

Atleast I still have Far Cry 2 to look forward to.

Yea that game already exists. It is called Battlefield 2. Go check it out provided you have a decent enough PC.

Also Bad Company shares similarities with Frontlines because it was made by people who originally made the very popular Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942 and contributed to the development of Battlefield 2 before striking out on their own.

The Melee needs fixed really bad. Going from COD4's Knife to Battlefields laggy knife of never killing.

Edit: Way too much hate for this game. Its not suppose to be COD4 with vehicles.

battlefield 2 is one of the greatest multiplayer games ever. This is pretty fun though. I hate dual joystick aiming though, give me a mouse and keyboard. Im loving the sound fx though. Makes it seem like a real battle going on. Very awesome game.

My sentiments echo the above, I am really enjoying the game, though it is no BF2. My only real complaints are :
Vehicle Controls (they take some time to get used too)
Destructible environments (It is like the Geo Mod Engine, some barrels explode others don't)

Also, maybe I missed it, but all the servers I joined, had no voice chat, so you had some small groups working together (BF Vets) and then alot of lone gunmen.

Though I want to repeat, for a beta this is nice and I have no seen any crashes yet (another beta bonus), it is shame my ranking and trophies will disappear at the end of the beta though.

I'm having loads of fun with the beta. Granted, this comes from someone who loved and played BF2:MC for the XBox, lol. I don't have much experience with the PC versions. Maybe that's why. Very fun so far!
it is shame my ranking and trophies will disappear at the end of the beta though.
You can rank up and get trophies in the beta?

I only played a 2 rounds and I don't remember seeing any trophies or ranks getting unlocked. I could have easily missed it though.

Yeah, I think I am a sergeant now, and I received trophies for "top dog" tank battle, assist, and something else. They just pop up during battle in some of the dead space on screwn, but like I said, I am assuming these will all disappear at the end of the beta (or be reset while in testing)

Now for those people that got to play for a long period of time today, did you unlock the bonus weapons? (demolition is a mortar I believe)

Check the awards part of the menus before getting into a game and you can see all the badges you've won. You can earn unlock points by playing to unlock the 15 weapons at the bottom half of the weapons page.

this game is the shit, I can't believe some of you guys are not totally in love with this game. I am loving the destruction and it feels very smooth, minus some minor latency issues. I'm really looking forward to CAG battlefield nights!

Just played my first round and it's interesting. I'm a big fan of BF2/2142 but not so much console shooters, so getting used to the controls are going to take a while... plus it'll take some time to get to know the new kits and what their specialties are. It's definitely more disorienting than the jump from BF2 to 2142.

The most disappointing thing so far is when I shot a grenade at a wall and it just popped a big, premade hole out of it, not even close to the dynamic-looking destruction from the trailers. I'm not surprised one bit, but I had a tiny hope they'd pull off something a little closer to truly destructable maps. But I'm also glad that the map I played on had a ton more architecture than I'd seen in maps in the previews. It would take forever to level the whole area.

Does it always supercrash when a round ends?
Ha, amazing it actually worked.

If you didn't get a beta code, it's still possible to play this.

Just download the ISO from ThePirateBay and use MagicISO in mode 2 to burn it to a DVD. Go to game library and it will be listed under Demos.

You don't need a modded Xbox or anything for this to work.
Good job community, way to convince developers to do more betas in the future.

Im up to 8 unlocks and noticed so many changes from the old battlefields ( I own BF 2 and Xpacs + 2142 + Modern combat ). The snipers have a shitty travel time. C4 cant be tossed anymore like it use to so its shit. Most of the guns unlocked are totally shit and im only finding assault class to be overpowered/good and if im another class it just slows my killing down massively.

I was a big Specialist class fan but when you look at the pros and cons between it and the assaults ability to just blow through everything for quicker travel time and owning its just sad. I miss the old 5-10Ft tossable C4.

Im having a fun time with the game overall so thats really what matters but ill be getting my fill from the beta and not touching the full product for now.

Edit: I do realize this is beta and the stuff i have complaints about can be fixed!
Edit #2: Lulz
Edit #2: Sporadic go die in a fire.
Go fuck yourself.

I'd much rather have somebody download the ISO copy of the beta disc instead of being forced to pay money for a code off Ebay or to join Fileplanet.

Ehh. Not feelin' this beta. Maps are ridiculously dark, the guns don't feel very powerful, not everything is destructible like it was billed.

Before people who love this scream at me, "Its a beta you noob" I understand, but c'mon, at least make me want to play it more. Cod4 and H3's betas both rocked and sold me on the game. This? Not at al..

I tend to agree with you. The maps are dark to me, guns feel slow and not powerful. It also seems REALLY REALLY slow. COD4 is fast and just seems so much more fun. I am going to keep playing the beta, but so far I am not in love with it overall, but there are things I do LOVE about the game (The awards, trophies, ect...)

I disliked how the game seems to constantly freeze after a round is over. Once I turned my 360 off and on again after one freeze, I loaded the beta back up and it put me into a game that was nearly over, so 30 seconds later it froze again.

Seems like a decent game but not something I'd pay full price for. I wish this beta had regular team deathmatch in addition to the Gold Rush mode.

I liked the destruction a lot though, on one map by the end of the game the buildings were practically leveled.

Sounds like your 360 is dieing, Ive never once had the game freeze on me. Only had a few laggy games when servers first went up.

I played like 10 games yesterday, and it never frooze.. It sounds like its your 360 on the brink of death :)
what is with all these complaints with the game being dark. Am I the only person who knows how to tweak there settings...
They have no brightness settings.... Only a diamgram to adjust my TVs brightness (which is properly calibrated)... Walk into a room, and you cant see crap.. Atleast I cant

Except I'm not the only one with this issue and my 360 doesn't lock up on anything else.

Other than locking up when it says Defenders/Attackers Win! the few games I played were amazingly lag free considering the amount of effects going on at once.

I have no problems with darkness issues.
If you didn't get into the beta, you can download it off of a torrent, burn it, and play it on an UNMODDED 360.
Awesome, help overload the servers so that the lag is worse for those who got into the Beta, and even better there's no way for people who pirate the game to leave feedback on any issues they encounter!

I tried the Beta for about 10min while I was waiting for someone to play Halo 3 with, and I wans't impressed...I know I didn't give it much chance but the way I was just "thrown into a battle" was really confusing...It took me a while to figure out who were the enemies and what I was supposed to do. The hit detection is horrible. I emptied out almost 2 clips onto a guy until he finally died...then as I turned around an enemy appeared right in front of me, like a couple inches away, I shot away at the head...and nothing...I was already injured so it didn't take much more for me so I lost the battle, but I shot him in the face and he shot me in the chest...

I'll try to give it another go tonight.

That's the way all battlefield games have been with spawning at capture points or in your squad (If that battlefield game had squads). Except the difference in this beta is that this gold whatever gametype is new and most people don't seem to click that it's basically a multi-point permanent capture system.

I only played about 15 or 20 minutes and I didn't notice any bad hit detection. Is it possible you were lagging or were very far away from that enemy? Battlefield is pretty big about the gun accuracy stat and the further away you are, the harder it is to hit the target. This is probably why FriskyTanuki likes the specialist (and I do too) since they have higher accuracy per bullet and allows me to kill targets from farther away without much trouble. Normally though they die from half a clip close range and up to double that from long range while using specialist equipment. (I also don't believe battlefield, at least on console, is a headshot type game like Halo is. I don't remember if the PC Battlefield games were like that off hand.)

As for the whole appearing in front of you thing. It's possible that the spawn by squad had him appear in front of you but I find that pretty unlikely. Chances are they rounded a corner or something to that effect (Plus with people who are suffering from bad brightness levels may not notice enemies very well until they're close). Who knows though as in Modern Combat I remember having people spawn not far away from where I was located if I was by a spawn point in the other teams territory.

Well, I tried both available spawn options and I was always alone...I ran into a teamate once.

I didn't see where you could select class...I was playing the Gold Rush gametype I think...I had to destroy their gold and they had to protect it.

Oh, no he didn't spawn in front of me, he rounded the corner took me by surprise.

Like I said I didn't give it too much of a chance, but I will later.

No problems with lag or darkness here. It's been pretty fun so far. My only criticisms extend from the fact that when you're trying to join there's no way to cancel out until the game can't find you a match or you go back to the dashboard.

I'm also having issues with just a stupid little colored square over player heads to detect if they are friend or foe. Are there any in game settings to change this? I'd be happy with just seeing your allies names and nothing over your enemies.

The menu music is pretty aswesome as well!

To select class you have to press the X button between spawn times or when you first jump into the game.
