To clear up any confusion, front row games are the games that are displayed at the checkout counters in large blue boxes. All the games have big white stickers with their prices on them. They range in price from 4.99-14.99. These are NOT normal stocked items, nor are they the yellow stickered items found in the normal game section. Some stores are now moving these games into their normal stock sections, but they will still have the white stickers on them. If they do not have a white sticker, they are NOT a front row game.

********
Etymology of the phrase "Front Row" *******************
********************************************************

The term front row game stems from the name on a receipt for these items. They will all show up with the generic title Front Row instead of their actual names. The term does not specifically have to do with the fact that these games are found in the front row of a store, although that was where they originally were found. If you find a game without a sticker in the front row of a store, IT IS NOT A FRONT ROW GAME. It is only a Front Row game if it has a white sticker with a price tag along with a white upc sticker covering the original sticker.

**********************************************************

**PLEASE READ THIS FIRST ***
Ratchet & Clank for 9.99 is a Frontrow Game ONLY. We all know it's 40 on the website. All frontrow games are NOT normal stock games and will not show up online. These prices are good IN STORE only.

I just got 3 copies of Crackdown for 5.00 each.
I couldnt believe it. The tag behind the game said 5.00. So I grabbed a few and went to the checkout. They rang up for 59.99 so I told the girl to go check the tag and it clearly stated 5.00. It wasnt the pre-order tag. It was a new tag. She didnt want to it...but I was clearly about to argue it out. Im sure she noticed that.

I usually dont have luck like that. Not even close.
Thoae coupons print out big and get chopped off around the gamecube area of the form any way to scale them down??
Copy and paste the one you want onto a new file and print out. It's actually better to have a big enough coupon so that it is easier to scan or punch in the code.

Gah, I've been to Best Buy a few times since this clearance started, and I haven't seen any "clearance bins". Where are they supposed to be? In the back near the videogames, or closer to the front of the store?

I have never seen a "clearance bin" in Best Buy in the 5+ years I've been going there ;). What we are talking about is front lane games. They aren't really clearance (that part of the thread title should be removed IMO since this is different from the other Best Buy clearance sale). These are usually set up somewhere near the cash registers. They have 5 things up there: 1) Candy 2) Gift cards 3) Cheap DVD's 4) Cheap games 5) Misc cheap electronics. The layout is a bit different in every store I've been to, but they are always up there somewhere. In addition, some of the frontlane games might be mixed in with the regular games. Perhaps some Best Buys have removed the frontlane game display entirely (it is just shelving).

I can confirm atleast half the stores I've been to have already removed them. I mentioned it in my last update, but I don't think it's very noticeable. The games are now mixed in with the normal games section. I'll be editing the OP alittle to make it clearer.

Castlevania isn't a Front Row game, plus there is already a thread made specially for it.
i saw death Jr. for the PSP for 9.99, im gonna pick up a copy this weekend
Saw that as well. I also saw Exit for PSP restocked in one store in the frontlane area. I went to 3 Best Buys tonight and all still had frontlane displays. And OP, you can add Triggerman for PS2 at $4.99 as well.

I had my first coupon rejection in a long time though. I grabbed 2 Castlevania DoS and 2 $4.99 PS2 games. They allowed the $5 off DoS but said they weren't going to give me the other ones for free. They didn't use the "No Copies" clause or anything, just flat out said I couldn't have them for free. Oh well, it worked just fine at the other two stores later ;). I knew I should have avoided the guy and gone to the girl's line - but his customer finished first and he called me over. D'oh!

I also picked up Chromehounds and Gun for 360 for $15 (each) after coupons. I also picked up Exit, a One Piece Grand Adventure for GC, a few more $4.99 PS2 games, and even found 3 penny guides. I used a ton of coupons tonight ;). if Best Buy ever reviews my purchase history they will probably file a restraining order against me.

Oh, also I checked the GC Madden 05 (tagged $9.99) and it has the exact same UPC sticker that Simpsons Hit & Run has - it is the GC frontlane sticker. So whoever said they got it for $1.99 with the sticker over the UPC must have had the price overridden (either that or both it and Simpsons H&R are actually $1.99, which I doubt).

Here's my experience at Best Buy today. Really shows the value of just being calm, to appear like an 'angel' customer. I picked up Shamen King for the GBA it was priced $9.99 but it also had a sticker over the UPC. I kinda hoped this might be one of those that rang up for less than $9.99 so I discretly picked at the sticker over the upc as I walked around the store. I also picked up Motocross Mania 3 for $4.99. (It looks like crap but hey, $4.99)
Anyway. When I got up front my Shamen King rang up for $14.99, not the $9.99 as priced. (Because I had removed best buy's sticker, hoping to get a better deal d'oh! my mistake).
Manager called over for a override. (Override #1)
Rang up my motocross crap for $4.99 and I also presented my $5.00 off coupon. Coupon scanned in, but gave no discount. Cashier spent about 5 minutes trying to adjust the $5 off himself, to no avail. Another cashier came over to help but no luck. I remain calm and friendly. Finally a manager comes over for yet another override. (Override #2) They ended up having to take $2.50 off each game for some reason.

They looked kinda stupid because their coupon wouldn't work, and thankfully they didn't point out how I was being sort of 'jerkish' by presenting a $5 off coupon for a $4.99 game. (Do I expect them to give me a penny?)

^^^^ Yeah, but the thing is, had it been me I would have presented TWO coupons and tried to get both for $4.99 total ;). It doesn't give you a penny, by the way, it just discounts $4.99. Were they in the wrong mode on the register? Nearly every time I use these coupons they have moved on to "tender mode" and the register complains (the coupon needs to be scanned like any normal item). But they almost always figure it out (sometimes with the manager's help). One guy tonight did it in a wierd way though - instead of scanning the 3 coupons I gave him he just discounted $15 at the end. Meh, whatever, with that I ended up getting 2 of my 3 penny guides for free (since he did, in effect, take off $10 for the 2 $4.99 games I was buying).

Yeah. An overwrite doesn't work well with a coupon. I took a $4.99 game to the checkout but it rang up for $9.99. I pointed out the big price sticker on the cover and she called for an overwrite. After she scanned the coupon, the register either reverted the price back to $9.99 and took $5 off, or simply didn't do anything (couldn't really tell). She had to read the coupon again and call for another overwrite. Finally they just overwrote the price to $0 and gave it to me. Lots of work and waiting.

See, I could have totally avoid one and possible both manager overrides and the angry glares from the customers behind me if I hadnt bothered to take off the best buy sticker over the game's original UPC. Thought I was going to save. Game actually went up.

Oh man... FREE Game apply when you purchase 2 games or more. Example. You buy $10 game - $5 off coupon = $5 + $5 game - $5 off coupon = $0. You endup pay $5 for 2 games. If you buy $5 game and use $5 off coupon is NO GO.
can you use 2 coupons at once?
I've used upwards of 5 at once  (5 different games of course - they don't stack on one game if that's what you are asking).

The best way to approach the free games is to get something a bit more expensive, whether it is a game item or not, and then slip in a $4.99 PS2 game or two and a couple of coupons for those. Then the total won't raise flags. Though that didn't help me with one cashier yesterday as he noticed the $4.99 games and asked his manager about using the coupon - no go that time, but that has been my only rejection in about 5 tries on free games.

The only coupon problem I've had so far has been by using multiple coupons. A cashier half read the coupon and saw that it says 1 per customer, so she only let me use 1 of each(PS2, GC, GBA) I've probably used upwards of 20 coupons and this is the only time anyone has given me trouble.

I was going to ask the more then one coupon question at once alos..but not RZ coupons but the 5$ off varity, I have a stack waiting for me in my windshield visor.

I guess you can walk out..put your purchase in your car and come back in for another transaction?

I saw tons copies Marvel Rise of the Imperfects? (GC) for $10 at my local BB. I don't think it worth $5 on my list. 1st i thought is GREAT but after i rented it & beated it .........is average game & it getting boring very quick.

You can probably do that, but if you get the same cashier they're probably going to give you more trouble then it's worth. I've only had 1 cashier ever even read the coupon, and that's the time they refused multiples. If you give them more time to read it they might not let you use it at all since the coupon specifically says no copies. Considering how easy it is to find these games, if you have problem at one store just go to another.

Here are a few more frontlane games that haven't been mentioned yet:

Reel Fishing (PSP) - $9.99 (normal game UPC is $29.99 at BB)

Ultimate Martial Arts Simulator (GBA) - $9.99
The Amazing Virtual Sea Monkeys (GBA) - $9.99
Spy Muppets: License to Croak (GBA) - $9.99

Please note that I've only seen those GBA games at one of the 4 Best Buys I've been to so they may not be widely available at all Best Buys.

I went back to the Best Buy that I got One Piece Grand Adventure at, and they were nearly wiped clean of any half-decent $9.99 and $4.99 frontlane games. Note that Puzzle Challenge for PS2 is $9.99 if it does NOT have the frontlane sticker and $4.99 if it does. That's the first time I wished I found a BB game with a UPC sticker on it .

I ended up getting a Duel Masters for my free game. Not too exciting as I had been getting those for free last year with the $5 coupons. The frontlane display was pretty pathetic at this store though. It consisted of about 10 Xbox games and a couple PS2 games, most of which were the crappy $9.99 ones (that I wouldn't even want for $5). I'm not sure if these are winding down or not, but the recent appearance (and then disappearance) of One Piece Grand Adventure keeps me hopeful that these will continue and aren't just holiday leftovers.

You can add these to the list:

PS2 - Hunter: Wayward - 9.99
GC - Tony Hawk's Underground 2 - 9.99

I picked up those two along with One Piece Grand Adventure for $15 total :)

I couldn't get that to work. The cashier was nice and said I had to make the total over $5 for it to work, so I bought some gum for $0.69 with the $4.99 game and only had to pay for the gum. :)

Oh alright, I'll try the game by itself first and if that situation comes up, I'll try buying gum, that's a good idea.

Thanks.

how do people get away with using these coupons? it says no copies accepted. do you guys just wait for right haphazardous employee or what?

As long as you aren't greedy and try picking up nothing but a free game, the cashiers won't give you any hastle. Pick up a few $10 games with a couple free ones and you won't have any problems.

what's the most you guys have used at once? I only tried using 2 coupons at once, at one time they raised an eyebrow, and the girl asked me where I got these? I said from e-mail. She answered oh no problem and went ahead anyway.

I've used upwards of 5 at once ;).

I've only had 2 problems with them. The latest was just the other day when I was getting Castlevania DoS after it had gone back up to $19.99. The shelf tag said $9.99, though, so the manager did an override. Of course, at that point the coupon wouldn't work, so she had to call him back AGAIN to do another override to $5. He looked at the coupon for a while and said after this I can't use any more because it says "No Copies". No big deal since I'm pretty much done using them anyway, and even if I do it will be on stuff that is automatic and doesn't need any price adjustments.

The other time was when the cashier noticed I was getting 2 $4.99 games for free after coupon (and other stuff as well, so it wasn't a completely 'free' transaction). He asked his supervisor and they told me no. But I've done it other times, even at the same store ;).

Getting a higher-up involved is always risky, of course, but I didn't have much choice on the DoS if I wanted it cheap. As for free games - I always buy something else. You are way more likely to get rejected for trying to get something completely free, though in one case (out of about 8 or so) I had trouble anyway.

I've used eight or nine at one time. This was along with the purchase of nine DVDs. The cashier didn't blink. Another time, I picked up nothing but two 4.99 games, which became free.

The second time, I went to a cashier with whom I had already built a very low-key, but positive, rapport. It always helps to go in clean, friendly, and smiling. Naturally, it helps to camoflage your discount with a regular purchase.

BIG tip: Do NOT cut the coupons in the store. I guess someone saw me doing that on a video camera one time and notified the manager. He got downright nasty.

Good luck.

Does the coupon still work automatically on a $4.99 game? Couple of weeks ago it took $4.99 off automatically without any overwrite, of course, the cashier had no problem giving me the freebie and the receipt.

From the recent posts, it sounds like the coupon won't take the $ off automatically.

I went to go pick up some cheap Digital Audio cables & picked up Simpson's Hit & Run for $5 with coupon. My local store had it for both GC and Xbox.

I also spotted a couple of copies of Xenosaga II marked for $9.99 as an FYI

It works automatically - I just don't know if it works on one single game by itself (so that your total is $0.00). I've never tried that but it sounds like it worked for you before and not for someone else. I dunno... But I know the $4.99 games are free if you buy other games (like $9.99) ones as well. I've done a few transactions with 2 $9.99 games and 2 $4.99 games + 4 coupons and paid $9.98 total.

Nanostray is up there for $14.99 now? Sweet, I'll pick that up for $10!

Potential bad news - and maybe this occurred a few days back as eau noted: it appears the coupons no longer work on $4.99 games. I had 4 games to ring up - 3 $9.99 ones and 1 $4.99 one. She scanned all four coupons, and then when she totalled it only the 3 promos came up, and my total was $19.96. I just had her remove the $4.99 game. On my receipt it still shows the coupon for it. So, looks like maybe they closed that loophole/glitch down . Oh well, there wasn't much left at that price point anyway - just Puzzle Challenge, Future Tactics, Duel Masters and a few of the budget racing titles.

On the plus side, this store seemed to have a restock of the frontlane games as I saw many more One Piece Grand Adventure and Pirate's Carnival that weren't there just a few days ago. No Nanostray though, and that was what I went for. Note that Scurge Hive is one of the frontlane DS games if you can't find it on clearance at CC (though it may be $19.99 so still $15 AC).

Yeah, I noticed the coupon not working on my Katamari Damacy (which was $4.99). They just manually overrided it and gave it to me for free.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Maybe Friday, March 31, was the last day for the $4.99 freebie with coupon?

Friday night, I was able to get 3 free games (GBA - Ant Bully, PS2 - Katamari Damacy, PS2 - OP: Pirates Carnival) on Friday. The receipt showed that the games are 0.00 and the coupon discount applied without the need for override.

I ran into the same thing today. Just thought it was a fluke, since it worked fine earlier in the day. Looking at the receipts, though, it looks like the time it worked the cashier just applied a generic MFG Coupon instead of scanning.

Bummer.

I see a lot of people saying OP Pirate's Carnival for PS2 is $4.99. I've never seen it for that - it has always been $9.99 here, with the frontlane $9.99 stickers. I'm positive, too, as I've bought several ;). That would have been a GREAT game to get for free (trades for $11 at Gamecrazy).

Also - WTF!?!? with people still finding $4.99 Katamari Damacy's! Hell, I'd be glad to pay $4.99 for that, I wouldn't expect it to be free! And I've already beaten it - I'd pay $4.99 just for a sealed copy to keep for posterity ;).
