True, but when I worked there employees got games at 5% over cost and most $59.99 games came out to around $51. So at $47.99 a pop I'm just assuming that they aren't making much on each sale. True they will sell a shit ton and maybe that's all that matters, but actual profit for new game sales can't be that great.
if $51 is cost + 5%, that puts cost at $48.57, so $47.99 is actually losing a few cents per unit. OTOH, they may have an arrangement with the publishers to split the cost of the discount (So instead of Best Buy taking the full $12 hit, maybe the publisher reimburses them $6 for each copy sold with GCU, or something similar).

There's no benefits with GCU when buying a new console, correct?

Thinking about selling my 3DS XL to upgrade to the new model and want to make sure I don't miss out on some sort of GCU promo.

Thanks!

No, GCU gives you no benefits when buying any hardware.

Question for everyone: has anyone successfully paid for a GCU membership with certificates? I just got a "we miss you, here's $5" certificate and was thinking I might extend my GCU just because I have nothing else to spend that $5 on before the cert expires... Thanks in advance.

Wait so you can only sign up for GC in store and not online, correct?
Correct. Easiest way is to already have a BB rewards account, give them that information at the register, then give them one of the cards, they scan, you get welcome emails in about 24 hours.

I have some questions regarding gift cards and certificates.

1. Can you purchase GCU with gift cards?

2. Once you have GCU how do purchases with gift cards work? I've heard you don't get reward points when you buy with gift cards but do you still get the $10 reward certificate preorder promos, or are you screwed out of them also?

Sorry if either of these has already been brought up and answered but I didn't feel like slogging through 200+ posts and a quick search resulted in no helpful posts.

Yes, you can purchase GCU with giftcards certs.

If you use gift cards to buy things at best buy you will not get any points but you still receive and promo points.

So your point is that some Final Fantasy games are good and some aren't? So he should know what he's in for unless he shouldn't.
No, my point was that there hasn't been a good one in over a decade, so why would this one be different? Hell, in the series' history of who knows how many games, there are like... 4 good ones, a couple of passable ones, and then it's just a sea of bullshit.

I'm still gameflying it to Czech it out, but the FF name does not inspire confidence.

Question about the $5 off $29.99 welcome coupon. Does it have to be $29.99+ after GCU? Say a game is $29.99 but $23.99 after GCU. Can I use my $5 code on that?

Now that everyone and their mom has gcu, and even bestbuy themselves are beginning to advertise gcu vs standard pricing, im really thinking gcu will not last at its current state.  idk, i might just be paranoid but b/c i'm good until 2022, i'm just abit concern.

It's almost as though people warned you that could happen.

I highly doubt they are going to get a bunch of people to sign up and then change it. The backlash would be huge.

Remember, the last time gcu changed it was for the better. Even if they do change it in sure they will grand father in.

If they wanted to change it they would do it before lowering the price to 30 not after

Is GCU not supposed to work on "clearance" games? Lightning Returns PS3 was marked on the shelf as $19.99 but that was a "clearance" price & I wasn't getting the 20% off. Made a mention of it & got an override with no issue, but wanted to ask the experts. Thanks.

It works on every new game, maybe your GCU isn't synced correctly to your MyBestBuy account.

I believe it is supposed to work on clearance, but it never did on its own. I believe that was one of the things that people were upset about years ago. I'm not sure if it was ever fixed though.

Any New game you get 20% off on, so yes it should have worked. If you just got GCU it may take 48 hours to be added to the account, unless you are buying a game in the same transaction as the sign up.

I got my GCU with the phone deal at the end of October. I had successfully used it 3 previous times, including just last Monday on Sleeping Dogs PS4. This was the first time it didn't work.

I was able to get the $4 off without much issue but I just found that strange it wasn't automatic.

The main question is did it ring up at a clearance price or did they need to adjust it to the advertised price in store?

For example is the game normally $20, but a sign in store says $10. When the ring it up it showed $20 and they had to adjust it to $10? If so that negates the GCU automatically applying, because that is the same way they do price matches to a competitor. So it would require an additional override to add GCU to the clearance price.

It rang up on the receipt automatically as:

39.99
-20.00 clearance

I then asked about & got the additional $4 off. It shows up underneath the clearance discount as a price adjustment.

So I am probably right? That best buy never fixed it for clearance items? I think the excuse in the past was that clearance was a separate "offer" and it can only be one "offer" per item.

Gonna bump this because I spent 30 minutes trying to get this thing activated this morning. Apparently, some stores still have older cards with an old sku that shows up as activated. Had to get a card with the current sku(same as the one in the wiki) and new $30 price in order for it to work.

What was the price printed on the card? I know some say $99.99, some say $119.99, and I think there is a 3rd one too.

so they drop the membership to $30 now, if they change it to 10% off new games instead of 20% then all the CAGs here should initiate a class action lawsuit against Best Buy to refund our money + damages. theres no way in hell they can get away with scamming so many gamers.
I hope this is a joke.

I think so; I guess someone should try adding one the CE that just went on clearance on the site to double check.

I added BioShock Infinite Premium and my GCU worked no problem. I've never had an issue with GCU not working online or in-store UNLESS it was in store and it required an override to get a store specific clearance. For example they had a rack of games for 50% off, I picked a few up and they had to change them from $20 to $10, and then from $10 to $8. Which made sense since a manual override disabled any promotions.

Do i have to order this online? or can i go in store and buy it? Because the link to it says in-store not available.

You can grab a card instore and they can add it to your account. Even if you purchase it online, you still need to activate it in store. They just recently put the card online for purchase.

What sense would that make?

That's exactly what they would do and are probably doing

Sucker in as many people as they can thinking they are getting a good deal and then make the program worth the thirty dollars they now charge

If they thought 20 percent of was worth 120 dollars before do you really think they think they are making the program profitable enough for themselves at this point?

Anybody who thinks this 20 percent off is going to last even another six months is deluding themselves

I have a feeling some changes are going to be made. Curious how they are going to spin these changes (downgraded membership).

Probably the 20% discount becomes 10% after buying $200 worth of games and then 10% drops to 5% after $300 worth of stuff. And so on...

I don't know if this works for me... I got this when I want to buy something online

Online ordering is not available to or from Puerto Rico. Please visit the Puerto Rico store for additional information.
and also there is this:

Currently, membership enrollment is available in store only. Gamers Club membership is free and is valid in the 50 U.S./D.C. and Puerto Rico. Please see a Customer Specialist for details on becoming a member
So if I want to really want something....I need to be on store, or tell my bro who lives on NY, then he sent me the item...but I got fucked on ship prices..... hehehe..... :cold: :cold: :bomb:

Or limit 1 of each title per system.

Or completely dump the program/build it into whatever they call reward zone now.

--

If they were to make a change, I would guess a flat 10% off new and used games. Limit 1 of each title per system.

Very frustrated right now... I got my membership card in the mail, went to the store to activate it, and they couldn't figure out what to do. Called customer service and they told me to go back to the store and have them try again. Asked to speak to a supervisor and waited on hold for 10 minutes before giving up. I don't understand why they can't just enroll me over the phone, and I'm not sure what to do now.

Don't mind me, I'm just here to read the comments.

What's up CAG? I see our price change on GCU has stirred some conversation.

The 20% isn't going away folks... would be kind of silly to have a press release go out calling out that benefit and then take it right away, don't you think?

And if you're worried about the company being around, might want to do a quick search on the latest earnings release.

To all of the current GCU members, thank you for your support. For all the new members who come in at the new price, welcome to the club!
for those talking out your ass about the discount going away, remember, we have a best buy rep here on cag that helps with question...including this post.

Who is the best buy rep? Have they confirmed with cheapyD?
I have had many interactions with him and I can say without a doubt 100% he is legit.

Now just because I admit this is a drastic change to the program I am not saying I 100% believe him with 100% certainty. I am sure they have no plans on changing it right now, but that doesn't mean they won't in the future. How long will it stay at 20% I do not know, but I do know I got my monies worth so I am not upset, I just hope it stays around as long as possible.

(Yes I know I said 100% a lot in this post)
