BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.
Also I can confirm when you combine gift cards and put the code from the receipt in on your RZ account online you receive full points.

WHOEVER BROUGHT THIS IDEA UP. I LOVE YOU.
I seriously do not understand how BB works, I have all of the following in my account right now:

1. Several GC buying GC purchases that are not giving me any points - others (you) have reported getting points for this.
2. Some Visa GC used to buy MS Points cards that are giving me points - others have reported not getting points for this.
3. Lots of purchases made with GC that DO NOT give points; and some that give random amounts of points (i.e., I got 9.36 worth of points for each of 3 copies of Driver I bought -- which were doubled to getting 18 for each -- or an old one where I received 1.37 worth of points for buying MJ: experience on a receipt with that, and 2 halo:reaches).

Like, i get that there could be flaws in the system, but how in the fuck does the system randomly change within my account and award different accounts different amount for different purchases? What the hell?
i just got my $25 e-rewards gift card also. 1st one ;)
fingers crossed this isn't just a rumor...
Most of us can order another one on October 1st, but it may not arrive until after the promo is over. No worry. I have a little credit on my GS PUR card and can also use some (BB) pre-paid VISA money from past flipping. I was lucky the last two quarters. My GS GCs arrived just before or during B2G1 used GS deals.

And then there's my RZ account where I see nothing showing for any period up to the max of 2 years. Gee, I think I've made a few purchases within that time. (And it is the right account - it was showing purchases a few weeks ago). Yet it still shows that I have 2 $10 RZ certs unused and it correctly removed the 3 that I did use a few days ago. And it shows my points and progress towards silver status for next year. But yet, no transaction history whatsoever. Very odd...

For #1, are you buying GCs or getting them combined? I had one "zero out" when I bought a $50 GC from the regular checkout for a wedding present. Every time I had them combined at the CS desk I've received points. Maybe it's something they do different at the register.

Everytime I've asked in the past they say they can't like put the value from one onto another, they only know how to do it where I buy gift card C and use Gift card A and Gift Card B to pay for it.

Are you saying that you are able to get them to take gift card A and put the value from gift card B onto gift card A? Every clerk I've asked has said that's not possible (granted I've only asked like 5 times, though).

No, you've got it right. New GC with the total gets paid down with old cards. I guess the word combined really doesn't describe it then. Sorry to confuse you.

BTW, the gray Trade-In GCs can be reloaded with other GCs. I think they may be the only GC that has that feature

So if I buy gift card C with gift cards A and B, I can get points by adding them online?

If that's the case, they must have the system that adds points online setup to give points automatically if purchasing a gift card. Weird but cool at the same time. I might have to start asking if I can split my trade ins using some lame excuse.

Isn't using BB GC's A and B to pay for BB GC's D the same as using them to buy Kindle or prepaid Visa?

I screwed myself hardcore this weekend. One of the reasons I hate ordering on the weekends, I ordered 2 Portal 2's and 3 homefronts for about 80 total, was planning on flipping them to bestbuy for like 145 and it turns out they dropped the TIV's while I waited for my package >_

+1.

And same goes for DerClaw.

Helpful: TitleA is $10 at StoreA and trades in for $20
Unhelpful: I just flipped $50 worth of games for a big screen TV cause I'm l33t.
Does BB even sell Kindle cards in FL?
They do, the one I frequent the most closest to my work used to now there's none to be found.

Just wanted to be sure since they had some last time I was there but it was a good few months ago.

Maybe they caught on to the scheme and got rid of them, this BB is in a pretty uppity "high class" part of town and gets a lot more business than the others in my part of Jacksonville. Guess I'll have to check the other stores.

I read the last few pages and didn't see an answer to this (sorry if it's there):

Does the 40% only work on new pre-orders, or can I add it to existing?

I had one guy at BBY tell me I could add credit whenever and get the 40% (as long as the promo was active), but the next day when I tried to do it, the clerk (previous guy's boss) said I couldn't really do that and that clerk #1 was an idiot. He gave me the credit, but then told me I needed to go to customer service and pay off the games I had on pre-order with the giftcard he gave me or he'd get in trouble. I didn't do it though, because he forgot to give me my extra 10% credit.

Also- I traded $112 worth of games that ended up being something like $168 with the 50% towards Rage. Should that extra 50% have been on the whole thing or just just up to $60 on Rage?

Most of this has been covered literally hundreds of times, but I'm feeling nice. The bonus is supposed to be for new pre-orders only but you can sometimes get employees to let it slide and re-use the same pre-order.

The manager was just as dumb, Best Buy doesn't even let you pay for a pre-order in full, only $5 down. (They actually aren't supposed to do more) As for the latter, the bonus is based on your trade in and nothing else, so if you have $100 in trade in with a 40% bonus you'll get $140, regardless of what game you pre-order.

I take back what I said before, can we go back to fantasizing about how much money we are all going to make by trading in 4 PS2 games at a time next week?

I've found if the bonus is a pre-order for a specific game, they just allow it. If it's a "pre-order any game and get ..." they make you do a new preorder.

I actually just do the trade 3 get 30% now. (expired i think) because I don't want the hassle of returning preorders.

Although if the extra bump is worth >$5 then just preorder something and never pick it up. or I guess return it.

Dear nbballard,

If you have read even 10 posts in this thread, you will see that everything at BB is YMMV. So, you will have to see what kind of mileage you get at your BB. Nobody can say for sure unless they are in line in BB in front of you making the exact same trade-in that you are. Even then you might not get the same deal.

In the future, please remember that everything at BB depends on whether or not your blueshirt is feeling nice/mean/smart/happy/dumb.

Yours Forever,

DerClaw

^I understand YMMV- i would just rather play by the rules than try to work the system everytime I walk in there. (and the last 10 posts have been about the 4 for $20 deal).

Hey Ballard,
When you have your games scanned in at BB, there are check boxes that the employee can click on, for things such as the 50% trade bonus (or other trade bonus available at the time) and also for 10% unlocked bonus. They do this before ringing anything up you are buying such as the preorder for $5. Once all the bonuses are added up, they get a giftcard and put the credit on it. Then they ring up the preorder/purchases and you can pay any way you want (either cash/credit or use the giftcard). Now here is the YMMV part: sometimes they don't even ring up a preorder. If you can convince them you already have the game preordered they may let you slide, or in the case of my last trade, I was told only 1 bonus per game/offer, ever! (which is BS, so if they pull this line on you, just make a new preorder and cancel the old one, & the new one too. Just make sure your trades are settled and you have your giftcard first). And you get the bonus on EVERYTHING you trade in during that session, and all it costs is a refundable $5 deposit.
Does Best Buy have any bonuses for buying Rage from them that would make me want to keep the preorder?
All of BBs current video game promos end on this Saturday. So you're probably gonna have to wait till Sunday at the earliest to find out.

SO how do you get the extra 10% TIV? I want to pre-order Rage only for the 50%. I got some good games with good TIV and with 60% instead of 50 I would make a good difference between the two.

Ive been a rewards member for a few months and got an email earlier in the month, welcoming me and telling me I get $2 for dollar spent on electronic items.

You have to pay for their Reward Zone "Unlock" program for $14.95 plus tax. It gives you a year's subscription to @Gamer and 10% extra on trade-ins and 10% off pre-owned games.

:wall:oh yeah I forgot all about that. Thanks man for the reponse. Well Ill do the 50% here and get 60% at GS since i bought their $15 service. Is there a period as to when you can get your money back on a pre-order. For example I will pre-order Rage for the 50% but I want to cancel it. The next time I go to the store would be when Batman comes out the 18th it would be over 2 weeks then, so is it possible for me to get my $5 back?

I swear every single time I've entered this thread for the last month all I've seen are the same three questions being asked. I truly believe we need an awesome OP, that covers EVERYTHING, and so we can always just say "read the op."

Lol

Anyway, hopeful we all make a shit ton of money next week, still ;)

I was really hoping the BB ad scan for next week would be up, so we could see what the real deal is on this $20 bonus thing, and also to see what, if anything, they're going to do for Rage.

Speaking of not reading...read what he wrote. He said it's not in the OP but it needs to be. Because a lot of people don't read the thread they just post the same question every page.

He was making a valid point, we need a go to spot for all the basic info so that people who don't want to read 10 pages of the thread like you can get a feel of what's going on still.

All b*tchyness aside, here's the answer to your question from Nakanenui:

Just looked over both the receipt and the preorder receipt-like slip.

This is for MW3
1. Present preorder ticket to cashier between 9/12/11 and 11/06/11
2. Pay the $5 deposit toward the purchase price of the item and obtain receipt for verification.
3. Retain your receipt for verifying your paid deposit. To obtain credit for the deposit, your receipt must be presented when picking up the item.
4. Return to store where deposit was made between 11/08/11 and 11/13/11 (Availability date is subject to change. Product will be held 5 days after arrival date.) Proceed to customer service. Present cashier with deposit receipt. Pay existing balance due on the item (plus applicable taxes).
*
*
note: blah blah blah if not redeemed by 11/13/11 , the receipt may be refunded at customer service. blah blah blah.

Basically if you do not pick up your game, you can get your $5 back by turning in your deposit slip (receipt) showing you paid $5 (no need to cancel it, just dont pick it up). Also the way Step 4 is worded is you pay just the difference for the game, instead of them doing a return then full repurchase. Also in the note section it states preorder is only redeemable/cancel at the store initially made.
Actually, we did go over that. What page? I don't know. But it should says on the receipt. A guy even took the time to type out what it should say and explained it.
Im looking at my Batman receipt and I dont see anything. You have 5 days to pick up the game. After that it just says go the CS for a refund but no clear timetable as to when it stops. I thought someone knew thats the only reason I asked .

Edit- I was never planning on gettign Rage btw. Just taking advantage of the promo. Thanks Kouleefoh for the response. Ill take it as there no timetable

Just wondering why do you want to know the specific time frame? Do you live really far from a bestbuy and might not make it there within the month?

I think you misunderstood; I understand it's not in the OP. Our OP is kind of weak in this thread, and a overhaul/revamp could do wonders. But instead of taking the time for a new OP, everyone just answers the same three or so questions within the thread. A waste of time and it dilutes the good stuff.

That said, your particular question has been asked at least a few times within this thread. You're right, you shouldn't have to dig through ten pages to find it... but it should definitely be in the OP because it has been answered a few times.

Other questions, like "Do I have to put the whole value down or just $5" and "do the bonus percentages stack past the initial $60" are asked on almost every.single.page. Sometimes a few times on a single page. C'mon. I understand not wanting to dig through a huge thread; but it's common courtesy to at least read the previous page or two before asking a question.

I ain't even mad. It's really no sweat off my back. It's just silly more than anything.

It's actually the Anarchy Edition, which comes with 4 DLC, I think 2 guns, a car, and some other thing. I don't remember exactly.

Hey so I bought the TigerWoods Move bundle and I pre-ordered NBA 2k12. I traded in the TigerWoods game and got 50% extra trade-in credit cause of the pre-order of 2k12. As it is with pre-orders I had to put down $5.00. How do I go about cancelling the pre-order and getting my $5.00 back?

You could say that. Im going on vacation for 2 weeks starting Monday and waited a bit too long to jump on this promo so thats the only reason Im asking so much today about this.

As for Mattcube I got you. Im not really on this thread that much so I hadn't really seen those type of questions.

AS for ^ D_Icon, dude -

The DLC includes:

 • Rat Rod Buggy
