BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

A REAL JOB lets you work about 8 hours a day.

If you can flip for $240/day then all the power to you. But something tells me you're not flipping for 60k a year.

LOL. From all the flipping stories I have read, I wouldn't have ranked velo and iatcg in my top 5 cag Flipzillas. Its all purely speculation though.

Hmm...I like the name Flipzilla. Should be the new El Hoardo

I beat IATCG ;). Oh and by the way, as a 19 year old college kid, I encourage you to find me a job where I can make 500-1000 dollars a month on top of my part time job at the library. Flipping is entertaining as well as profitable if you know what the hell you're doing.
lol, i do 90% of my cag reading and lookn for deals WHILE i am at work getting paid. Best of both worlds ;)
what company do u work for?

Choice Hotels ;) Manage a hotel so except for busy times I'm just chilln at the computer.
I liked running a dry cleaners alot more, but you go where the money is. I did that for 5 years, been doing this for 4.

Flipping is just fun for me, cuz I just try to get the best deals I can. plus it keeps me busy. I used to go to all these puretna fap sites, haha, now im on cag more than any site ;) I'm getting old, haha.

and im just a minor flipper, i just like to post on these threads and interact with people. The major flippers are the ones who never open their mouths. loose lips sink ships and i probly kill more flips by sharing them in the main threads, so they dont like me. I need to just shut my mouth tho and quit posting so much. haha.

peace to my buds tho ;)

n thanks prinny, i will try calling them up.

Is the 50% pre-order bonus still on? Its not advertised on the trade in home page anymore. I don't know if its in their system or if a BB employee checks that page to see all the promotions. Hopefully i can still get 37.50 for BLOPS when i go after work.

I made alot more than you when I was 19 but I ain't telling. It's a secret. :)
I love people always blaming SD for deals falling. CAGs are just as bad if not worst, especially when it comes to Video Game deals.

This discussion is hilarious. You have to be completely stupid to not see what can flip.

My exact stance; though spreadsheets are not needed and you can earn more than $3 per title/flip if done properly. A lot of these guys never factor in Time, Gas, and Effort in their flipping. The overall value isn't as great as people think. People realize this once they get a real job.
Sample of profit. BFBC2 and Uncharted 2 from BB ($8.20 a piece after B1G1 and tax) trades in to GS for around $22.50 each. Multiply $14.30 by how many copies you can get =). SWFU II $8.20 trades in to BB for $19.50. Multiply $11.30. Point is if you do it right you can make more than 100% profit, for like many of you are saying, is a no-brainer with no risk and easy profit.

I was a minor flipper =). I am in a similar situation where my job is flexible and I sit in front of the computer 90% of the time =) (funny I don't even have a smart phone). So this is a hobby and I've gotten close to many of the GS and BB employees who all encourage the trades. I've also let them in on a few secrets. It's very hard to stop flipping when you know there is so much profit involved almost addicting.

nayone ever trade in a LE of a game? thinking i'll be good trading in the mvc3 LE cuz it has a barcode on teh slipcover but i want to trade my fable 3 LE but the barcode is on the slipcover of the box...

they'll look up the game for you if your LE case doesn't have a UPC or the wrong UPC. YMMV of course.

I believe the trade in value is the same as the regular copies from what I've noticed on many games so the UPC doesn't matter much.

then trade in disc only. they'll still accept it
ic thanks for the help guys i'll take my chances and trade in case+disc since id like to keep the book and stuff from the LE
They won't accept books/bundled accessories anyway so you're fine just trading in the case.

Also, I would like to urge people to not be a douche and trade in only the disc if you have both disc and case/artwork if you have it. When it's complete, there's more of a chance that it gets sold. Maybe not to a cag but to someone. And the more used games they sell, the more they will keep TIVs high.

Long term thinking people.

Ive only traded in one disc-only copy and it was MvC3, they cant have my steelbook!

The future doesn't look good when the employee gives me back the cover art and manual and take in the disc only......Half of the games were disc only and the other half where complete or had the cover art. They said that the warehouse will repackage them with their own cover art.... I was thinking maybe like Hollywood Video did with their generic art work.

Locked my 360 BO copy online.
I wish my store accepted no receipt trade ins... FFS

Well $25 is still the best I can get for a disc only trade in with a couple scratches.

bleh now im considering this but with ulimtate mvc3 coming out this year bleh
edit:wait so did they give full value+50% bonus for disc only?
The blame will be on SD/FW because there are an order of magnitude more people/lurkers there then there are here. Granted this is a VIDEOGAME website, where there its a DEAL website.

Spreadsheets come in handy, especially when calculating 20+ games, and have options on where to trade them to optimize profits. I have run spreadsheets before, and it is really simple. $3-$5 per game is normal ($10-$20 is occasional), but when you trade in 20-30 games, now you are talking about real money. And with time and gas, if you can flip for $30/hour factored in, then it is a REAL job (better than most people's hourly wage slave job). Time is money, so either one is spending his time wisely or sitting on his ass bitching about NOT making money by wasting time.
The people on SD/FW most likely don't even play video games.

Spreadsheets definitely come in handy when you have many games with multiple copies.

Yes full value (with preorder). They are seriously doing damage to GS at this moment.

Just trade in game only. Cuts down on the hassle.

damn that insane guess i'll keep my mvc3 steelbook as well

I completely forgot most LE's dont have the UPC on the game case, just got my KZ3 helghast edition and this is the case.

They'll still take it if I take the cover art out, it says where the UPC would be Not for resale?

Disc only is indeed acceptable by policy. If your store is ill-informed or ill-trained and gives you lip, remind them to reread their rules on trades. One of the managers I complained about went back and read them and was stupefied. Tell them your read it on the Best Buy message board if you have to. It sounds like trades have been straightened out in most places, but I was in for a shocker when I had issues at a store that does trades with receipts and one that does without receipts. (All I've been told is that things will be handled internally. I guess no apologies or compensation for the time I wasted.) Just a little caution.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll do disc only then.

I'm looking on the trade in website but can't find it, where does it say they take disc only trades?

Well, we know they don't do this because you can see plenty of games with artwork and manual in the used section. The employee was just stupid.

You can trade it in with the NOT FOR RESALE thing where the UPC should be. I did it last week. They just look up the name of the game.

I literally posted this a few pages back, but they took Killzone 3: Helghast Edition disc and case without issue. As long as it doesn't say "Not For Resale" on the disc itself, which it doesn't, they should take it.

They just manually enter the title into their computer and register it that way.

Sorry I didn't feel like going through 130 pages to see if someone posted it so I didn't bother looking.

All my games are usually in pristine condition and complete so it was never an issue till now, I appreciate all the input though.

Not a bad deal. If you haven't taken advantage of this already, might wanna get on it.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 ($17.00) With Bonus: $25.50
Bulletstorm ($17.00) With Bonus: $25.50
Homefront ($18.00) With Bonus: $27.00
Child of Eden ($18.00) With Bonus: $27.00
NBA Jam ($13.00) With Bonus: $19.50
Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions ($13.00) With Bonus: $19.50

Total TIV: $144.00

question, Im lookin into gettin Forza 4 pre order from BB, and i have alot of credit at GS. what is a good way to transfer over? Plus if i buy the game on the day come out. is it pre-order? do i still get bonus pre order DLC?

Since all the old sport game trade in for $1 with BB. is it a good idea to trade them in?

You have to preorder the Friday before the game comes out. If you buy on release and don't preorder then no it isn't a preorder. You may still get the preorder bonus IF the preorder bonus is in the game itself (whether a code on a cardboard inside or on the disc itself). BB is known to just email out the bonuses (NCAA football 12 got an email). If it is in the package then it is YMMV On if you get it, just bought fallout NV that came out last year and I got one with the preorder bonus. Just depends on how many they order for the first shipment for store purchases on release day.

I would buy games from Gamestop that have high value at Best Buy (You can check to see the TIV on their website). Then trade them in to Best Buy immediately. Make sure the games you get are complete and the discs don't have rings/excessive scratches.

I refuse to trade in any game that has a value less than $5. I rather keep those old (sports) games and play them later when i get bored enough.
Thinking about trading in Black Ops, Reach, NFSHP, Shift 2 (Sealed), Fable 3 (sealed), should be $135 TIV
Sounds about right. I don't know their policy on sealed games though. Someone with experience might wanna chime in on that one.
Thinking about trading in Black Ops, Reach, NFSHP, Shift 2 (Sealed), Fable 3 (sealed), should be $135 TIV
You won't get additional value for sealed games so I'd just open them if I were you; play it and trade it in
You won't get additional value for sealed games so I'd just open them if I were you; play it and trade it in
You also get the bonus of the non-trivial possibilities that you will get a csr that doesn't want to take the games and/or calls the police because they are stupid. Just open the games before you go in (plus, if there is random DLC inside you can put that on ebay or something and make a couple more pennies).

Sorry but didnt feel like rummaging through the past pages, but how do i get in on the 50% bonus trade in, I have 3 games that i would like to use on this deal.

@ dapu...pre-order any game ($5 down) and go to the trade in center show them the slip and tell them you want the 50% tiv promo. they should already know though. If I were you, I'd trade in all the games I want to trade in in one go

@102...don't know, but I'd say yeah
does this work with the preorder 5 games for 300$ get a 100$ gc?
Yes, I did this this Sunday and plan to go back again with those five preorder receipt.

Thanks.

I was just wondering, what does BB or for that matter any company gain by offering these bonus TIV's with a pre-order given that pre-orders can be and will most likely be cancelled. I'm unsure what benefit is it to BB. They might as well just advertise a 50% bonus TIV offer.

you put down $5 for every pre-order so even if people cancel BB still gets the $5
