Spotted a couple of new additions today:

Area 51 (can't remember if it was $4 or $6)
Luxor $4

I'm always on the lookout for cheap PC puzzle games and recently picked up from Big lots:

Collapse Crunch $4
Chainz 2: Relinked $4 - both from the makers of Luxor.

Looked like there had been a restock of Psychonauts, still $6. And for some reason I was thinking that Armed and Dangerous was starforced but it's not on the starforce list so I picked it up for $4. Really enjoyed that one on the xbox.
Psychonauts is a pretty sweet game, I liked Area 51 also...

Luxor, old school type game...SWEET

Just picked up:

Indigo Prophecy ($6) - I don't think this one has been mentioned on this thread before.

Also got Neighbors from Hell: On Vacation and Paraworld for $4 each.

I found Psychonauts and Desperado's II the other day, $4 each. I enjoyed the first Desperado's (til I somehow lost the game disc) and I've heard a lot about Psychonauts.

No, it hasn't yet been mentioned, and I think you're the first person to discover it.

Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit for our European friends) is truly a great game. And for $6, there is simply no excuse to at least play the first level...

I dont know if you mean the same indigo prophecy that I played, in which i was this super awesome main character, involved in an intriguing, suspense-filled plot that was constantly working against me, since i could control my opposition, when all of the sudden the plot decides to take huge leaps of logic, yes, jumping across the plot-holes that it unapologetically left behind like the bottomless pits in the super mario games.

And just like in the mario games, the ending was in another castle.

Indigo Prophecy for $6? I'd definitely buy it if I didn't already have it.

I really enjoyed that game (I have the Euro version, Fahrenheit), even with the rushed plot towards the end. It did seem like they made a lot of plot jumps to try to tie it all together, most likely to meet a deadline for release. Still, it was one of the best games I had played in a while and is well worth your $6.

I saw El Matador for $4 along with Bad Day LA (I think $3). Also, Path of Neo, Spellforce 2, Monopoly Platinum and Shadow Ops: Red Mercury. There were a couple of other types of "war FPS" ones, but I don't remember their names --- something about DMZ Korea and another one with a guy in a jungle.

great find today!

I got Act of War, and Act of War: High Treason (expansion pack) shrinkwrapped together for 6 bucks... full retail boxes, not jewelcase.

i wish i had seen more than one, that's a great deal.

nothing else new jumped out at me, other than maybe a few more generic shooters/wargames that i'd never heard of.

if anybody is having trouble finding psychonauts or tribes: vengeance, send me a PM... the stores near me are thick with them right now... i've already bought all I needed for me and my friends. I'll stop and get more if anyone is having trouble. (anything else you want me to check for, just ask... it gives me an excuse to stop.)
I found two copies of Psychonauts at my Big Lots, one was marked 6, the other 4.
"Price check please" You missed your opportunity to drive a BL employee insane.

same here, not only is their pricing inconsistant throughout the chain, but even in the same store.

Yeah, but mine had a broken scanner so it already took them 10 minutes to get me checked out as it was. I think the problem comes from using 20 year old checkout scanners, but the barcodes are 1/4 the size of a regular one.

I got from my local Big Lots:

Indigo Prophecy ($6)
Still Life ($6)
Bad Day L.A. ($4)
PsychoNauts ($4)

Awesome deals, thanks C.A.G. for the heads up!!!

My Big Lots nearby didn't have Indigo Prophecy -- bleh! :(

Though, I did pick up, all for $4 per game
--Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars
--Boiling Point: Road To Hell
--El Matador

Finished El Matador in around 7-8 hours. Decent, but definitely is no Max Payne -- when it comes to story depth and character depth. Still, Matador's action itself was worth the $4 admission.

Currently playing Boiling Point.

And if you do play Boiling Point, regardless of if you have UK or USA version, just make sure you go grab Euro Patch 2.0.

The game's pretty good and it actually runs very well, w/ that patch 2.0 installed. Over 30 FPS all the time w/ most graphical bells and whistles on, regardless of what is happening on-screen (even if there's big shootouts w/ cars driving around and lots of people having a big shootout -- even w/ Dynamic Shadows on.

(For those curious, the PC I am running it on -- Win XP, P4 clocked at 3.2 Ghz w/ HT Tech, 2 GB RAM, 128 MB GF 6600 GT vid card with newest WHQL drivers, DVD-ROM driver, DVD-Burner drive).

And if you read Patch 2.0's ReadMe Notes, you'll be staggered by the number of bug fixes, performance fixes, physics additions, and other junk they changed to help fix the game up.

Thanks for the tip on the Boiling Point patch. I might have to try that thing out just for grins. It sounds a lot like Just Cause. My problem is that I have a lot less time these days for games like this, so I tend to run through the intro and the first few levels, then shelve them. Games like this are still fun for a few bucks jsut to check out the art design and atmosphere.

I have yet to play Just Cause, actually.

To me, Boiling Point feels like a cross b/t two big games -- STALKER (first person shooter w/ a huge open-ended world w/ missions to do for factions) and GTA (car-driving and car-jacking elements).

With BP feeling STALKER at times, it does make sense, since some of the guys at Deep Shadows did some work on STALKER, when they worked for GSC Game World. Though, Boiling Point game takes place in a Columbian-like South American territory (titled Realia) -- whereas STALKER took place in Chernobyl. Of course, BP don't have the horror elements STALKER had; BP's more reality based.

BP even reminds me of STALKER in the sense that when you're just going about your business, moving around and all, suddenly there'll be a huge shootout b/t two important factions in the game. And of course, you can sit back and loot the spoils of the dead AND/OR get involved in this firefight.

BP does have a some weak points -- namely, in just the voice acting. Like most open-ended games w/ loads of NPC's, such as Gothic 3 and Two Worlds, the voice-acting in the game will often be repetitive (from not-important NPC's) and most of the good voice-acting is uniquely found in the MAIN QUEST. With the not-so-important NPC's, your voice-acting will range from poor to good.

Though, the cell-phone conversations b/t Saul Myers (played by Arnold Vosloo, who was the mummy in both of the Mummy movies) and his wife Julia are the best voice-acting moments in Boiling Point, fueled w/ a good deal of emotion.

Deep Shadows is working on the spiritual successor to BP, which is known as White Gold -- which basically looks like "Boiling Point Goes To The Carribean."

Just make sure, if you do get Boiling Point (US or UK Edition), you just make sure you do install Euro Patch 2.0.

Thanks for sharing! I think I'm going to drop by BL today to use it. Heck, I may even return my previously purchased games so I can rebuy them with this coupon.

Only part that sucks is that I can't use it on any fireplaces. (sarcasm) :hot:
I found Darwinia, which looks pretty bad, but is actually pretty cool once you download the patch.
Which patch is that? The copy I got from BL had the latest version on the disc.

EDIT: Nvm, I just checked, looks like a patch was released after I bought it (I think). I'll check my installed version. Honestly, I thought it looked just fine. But then I'm one of those gameplay > graphics types... ;)
I found Darwinia, which looks pretty bad, but is actually pretty cool once you download the patch.
Looked bad? as in performance, or art style?

I thought the visual concept was mighty brave, trippy and fullfilling.
Try DLing their DefCon Demo. The way their games come off the screen is very mind-altering.

Darwinia won't work on my PC :( It loads and is either really laggy or frames jump around all odd, or it just gives me black screens :( I applied the patch too. This bites. (BTW if anyone knows how to fix it I accept helps in pm!)

Anyways my Big Lots had a TON of Darwinia with a keychain with it for 4.00, (I got the 2.50 disc only at Target, regretting it, keychain looks cool.) but I nabbed The Guild gold edition for 6 and Bad Day LA for 4.

I'm loving Darwina too. The version I got from BL was a patched version that has all the major problems fixed. I think there was a newer patch, but it just updated small stuff.

"Looked bad" was when I first saw it and didn't know what it was all about. But after I played it I get the concept and it is a very good game.

I had problems getting it to run. My pc is not a powerhouse by any means but far exceeded the minimum requirements, and it would barely run. FPS was 1-2. Mine came updated with 1.42 or similar, but I after I downloaded 1.5? it ran smooth.

I tried Defcon, now that won't run well. Similar to Darwinia before the patch. Not 1-2 fps bad, but still pretty slow. I am trying updated drivers and what not to try to remedy the problem. I enjoy Darwinia but I have been really wanting to play Defcon.

Managed to find three copies of Darwinia.

Now I'm glad I couldn't find it at Target.

If anyone needs a copy CML or PM with an offer.

Went to Biglots for the first time ever today and made out very well.

Darwinia $4
Space Rangers 2 $4
Master of Orion 3 $4
Indigo Prophecy $6
Psychonauts $6

I'll have to check the local stores every now and then.

Saw Swat 4 for $6 and True CrimeNY for $4 but passed. =)

OK, what's the trick to making the 2.0 patch think i have the Euro version? I'm getting "invalid patch file" when I try to install it.

Must not have fully downloaded -- file somehow got corrupted. Try DLing again. I got the patch from there and it was fine. Shouldn't matter if you have the USA or Euro version; patch should install no problem. Many people have have had no problems w/ the patch.

For games, I picked up today from Big Lots...
--Indigo Prophecy for $6
--Act of War: DVD-ROM Double Pack for $6
(comes w/ Act of War: High Treason & Act of War: Direct Action, both on separate DVD-ROM's)
--Still Life for $6
--Area 51 for $6
--True Crime: NYC for $4

Boiling Point was just way too dull and poorly conceived for my tastes.

My favorite part was how the guerilla's shot and killed me while I was bringing them the truck they asked for on the mission I was doing to restore favor with them.

Plus, the game punishes you far too much cash-wise. I can't do anything without pissing off half the country, and I can't get enough money to do anything... doing anything...

Thanks. I finally got Boiling Point set up. Turned out the UK Atari 2.0 patch is the correct one (maybe the one you used too), while the other euro 2.0 patch is incompatible. I wrote up a "fix" sequence that worked for me and posted it in the PC section, if anybody else is having trouble. It's kind of a system hog, so I may wait to get into it until I get a tougher video card.

which big lots are you guys going to?
theres alot in the area and so far the two ive been to have almost no games. like i found armed and dangerous at the huntington beach one but it was mixed in with the videocassettes(yes i was surprised they still had cassettes).
maybe try the fullerton next week.

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems like the faster the games sell here in Richmond, the quicker they re-order. Kind of like Just-In-Time inventory systems. Buy more games, and they get more re-stocks. At least that's been my experience.

I've been checking out the one in Newark, ca --- i'll have to travel down to Milpitas. They usually have most of the stuff you guys talk about.

Just went to the Big Lots in Milpitas ... found Indigo Prophecy as well as Area 51. They also had Bloodrayne 2 --- which I already have, but hadn't seen at BL before. They also had some weird Alien Disco action game.

I've been to Big Lots in Martinsville, Ronoake, Danville and Vinton. The one in Martinsville seem to re-stock a bit faster but the other are slow.

Has it been pretty dead on the BL front for you guys? I'm wondering if they'll get a flood of new games once all the holiday clearance games get offloaded on them!

yeah no new games have came in for at least a few weeks at the location i work at. we did receive a huge shipment of dvds though. their all tagged $3 and will be $2 during one of the after thanksgiving ads. the only dvd i remember seeing is the An Evening With Kevin Smith 2 (2 disc).

Hey a few months ago I got Auto Assault, which for 6 bucks was well worth it. Its a online MMORPG though and recently closed down. Also my Big Lots still has copies of City of Villains which I love as well.

I spoke with the assistant manager at my local Big Lots, and she metioned that next week's ad will feature computer games. And she was expecting a decent sized shipment of new titles along with that ad. So give the BL one more try around the middle of next week. It could be the last shot at computer games at Big Lots for a while.

Over the past few weeks I've seen:

Elf Bowling ($4)
Hoyle's Complete Game Collection ($6)
Super Granny 3 ($6)
Westward ($4)
Inspector Parker ($4)
Phantasy Star Universe ($6)

and a bunch of other Encore casual game titles. I picked up a few of these and they are a lot of fun for the price.

On my last trip to Big Lots I picked up Indigo Prophecy for the PC. The PC controls take some getting use to, but it plays a WHOLE hell of a lot better than the PS2 version I also own (which is just riddled with slowdown and low frame rates.) The PC version is very smooth, and looks a little better too. I picked up Psychonauts also, even though I'm very satisfied with my Xbox version of the game, but I figure if my Xbox ever craps out I can at least still enjoy one of my favorite games. :D

That's great news!!! :) That's for the update. I'm going to keep an eye out. YEAH!

The local Big Lots has two copies of a double pack featuring Civilization III and Chris Sawyer's Locomotion (Transport Tycoon-type game) for a cool $4.99. If I didn't already own CivIII, I would've picked one up myself.

Other than that, the software selection was uncharacteristically poor; the rack was instead overflowing with shitty bargain DVDs and antivirus software. When I was actively trolling Big Lots back in May/June, there were at least 15-20 games available at a time. Has anyone else noticed anything similar?
