Thought this was worthy of a new thread. Its back! And with a vengeance. As of this writing its at [see title]. Link

And for those that dont know, the amount of uses for this promotion seems to be doubling at a steady rate, now at 40 uses per account, and the maximum amount you can get back PER A SINGLE TRANSACTION was reduced from $250 to $200. The total culmulative cashback allowance is capped at $2,500.00 per calendar year.

How this works:

If you dont already know about this, its a very simple promotion offered by Microsoft in order to promote usage of their search engine live.com. All you have to do is go to www.live.com and search for something common, like "Wii" as in nintendo wii. In the Sponsored sites at the top you will see a link to Wii's on ebay with a small logo next to it that says Live Search Cash Back and below that "You may get xx% off paypal eligible". When you click on the cash back logo it takes you to ebay and BIN (Buy It Now) auctions for Wiis. From there you simply use the ebay search function to find the BIN auction for the item you desire and purchase it. When you click the BIN button prior to clicking on Commit to buy you should see a message below with the Cash Back you are eligible to recieve. Once you buy the auction pay for it with paypal and give it an hour. Eventually you'll get a message in your ebay account saying "You've earned cashback" simply click on it and follow the instructions. If you dont have one you'll be asked to create a live account. I believe most people will already have an existing live acct due to their Xbox, MSN, or Hotmail associations so feel free to use that if you like. This is quick, and thus far i havent gotten any spam due to it, nor have i read of anyone getting any spam. And thats it, 60 + 15 days later [they allow a buffer period incase you return what you bought] you can redeem the money.

So to summarize

1. use live.com search engine to find any product on ebay. Any keyword is as good as another, hence i used "wii" as an example.

2. Once activating the link use ebay.com to browse for the Buy It Now auction you desire and purchase and pay with paypal. Wait until you get a message from ebay and get your cash back with your live account. This can take a few hours.

3. ~75 days later its in your pocket. [60 days before you can redeem and then an additional 2 weeks before it actually transfers into your paypal account]

Again this is just a promotion by MS to promote use of their search engine, theres no catch. You dont have to promise your first born nor random legs or limbs. Its as simple as it sounds.

Some things to note

-This promotion is limited to only US residents.

-You must pay with paypal and it must be a BIN auction.

-It takes about 75 days to recieve the actual money which will be in the form of a FEE FREE deposit into your paypal account. From there you can spend it or transfer it into your checking or simply request a check.

-If you return the item you purchased and used the promotion on you LOSE the refund.

-This is only valid for Ebay user/store auctions on Ebay.com. No live auction or ebay motors etc.. Though i think you can get away with buying international auctions you're watching on ebay.com. I also noticed that this works if you're offered a "Second chance" on an item you bid on since it turns the auction into a BIN.

-You may only use this a maximum of 40 times per ebay account per person. A few people are reporting success using different ebay accounts with the same cashback account in order to achieve more than 20 uses. YMMV.

-Maximum of $200 back PER AUCTION [$2,500 Cap per account] and the percent savings does vary and can change without notice.

Rest of the terms are here:
http://pages.ebay.com/cashbackoffer/terms.html

I recommend at least skimming them. Enjoy.

Couple additions

"Instant" Cashback is now available. However, to quote "Instant cashback will be eligible for some, but not all users." Its unknown what the criteria is to be "eligible". I would not suggest you make a purchase unless you dont mind waiting.

Ebay/Paypal Coupons WILL stack with this. The amount is deducted off the full auction value. IE 10% Coupon applied to $100 purchase will save you $10. If the Cashback percent is 25% you will still get $25 additional back for a total savings of $35. Usually the Ebay/Paypal coupons have a maximum savings of $100 for a maximum total of $300 saved on any single purchase. This also stacks with other promotions run by Bigcrumb/ebates where you can earn some more money back based on an items selling fees.

Just a heads up to those people with 9-10 uses waiting on a big purchase. I only used mine 11 times, but it still tells me I'm maxed out.

Does anybody know if it's kosher to make a second account on eBay but feed it to the same Paypal? I know some other's have talked about this and I've seen conflicting answers.

How would that work?

The Cashback email you use has to be the one you use for PayPal.

So in order to use a new Cashback account, wouldn't you need a new PayPal account also?

You may get away with it, but if they do find out, they can cancel the refunds. If you already managed to get the refunds, they can work with PayPal to take the money without your content, either from your PayPal balance or bank account. (It's in the TOS.)

Hey I'm with you, but I've seen people discuss this.

Maybe I'm reading you wrong, but I think you're slightly off regarding emails. My cashback acount is different from my paypal that is linked to my eBay. You link your eBay to your cashback after the first eligible purchase. I've gotten several hundred in refunds, with only a couple left pending (per the max uses).

I forgot that I had set up my CashBack account long before I used my first refund.

(Mine just happens to be the same for both.)

I don't think it has anything to do with your EBay account though. They most likely don't care under what account the items were purchased under.

What I see them caring about is how you pay for the items.

Under the CashBack settings you can add the PayPal account you use.

I think that's what they use to track it.

Roger that. Since they only allowed me 11 uses, I emailed them (microsoft's side) asking why. Their response was basically "who knows, ask eBay." It's been 1 month since I emailed eBay. eBay's live help told me to ask Paypal. I called Paypal, and they said they have nothing to do with anything called "Live Search Cashback."

I love Indians.
So has anyone else been successful in activating the 25% link?
I sure haven't. I've tried clearing my cache, opening it up in IE, and anything else I could think of, but nothing seems to work. It doesn't even work for me on the AppleCare protection plans.

Ah well, I'm going to bed. Hopefully everything will be working by morning.
Anybody know the 12 uses count for everything?
The 12 use limitation is for purchases made on ebay only. Outside of ebay on live cashback you can use it as many times as you like, provided of course you dont earn more than $2500.

Hmm...

One of my cashback is supposed to be available today, but it says available in 0 days. I can't seem to request it, Is that normal? Hopefully it will be available tomorrow.

The person who got rejected for his cashback got me worried.
Showing 25% for me.
...but has it worked for you is the question. It's showing for me, but I'm maxed out. Does anybody have a verified use yet?

I'd say the 25% "applecare" search is a glitch. It doesn't work in any capacity...even when intending to use it on an actual applecare warranty. I also went back to see if the 8% links are working, and they are.

But after clicking on an 8% link, and then going back to click the 25% link, eBay still only shows 8%. Seems pretty clear that it's just a mistake. It COULD be a sign of something in the works, but I wouldn't hold my breath just yet.

^Agreed. Also, what's with cashbackr's emails? I've gotten at least 5 of the same email informing me that "applecare" works for the 25%. I just want the emails to stop.

edit...after I typed this I got 2 more. I unsubscribed to the bastards and their redundant teasing.

Awesome Thanks.
My guess is Microsoft is setting one to 25% as a "glitch" to mine data and see how many people are using cashbackr.

Just a hunch.
They probably got SLAMMED with people using the 30%, so like you suggested they are probably testing the waters before they raise it back up.
I have $2.40 coming tomorrow and $83 coming Thursday. I hope everything works fine.
Don't forget, you need at least $5 in the account to receive money back.

$5 in what account? paypal?
$5 in what account? paypal?
Your cashback balance must be $5 or more. It says that on the cashback page:

Your current cashback:
$0.00
You need at least $5 to get your cashback.

So you'll need to wait until your second cashback comes in to claim the first.

I now have $25 (of $175) marked on Live.com as "Awarded". Unfortunately it's not yet showing up in my paypal account. I guess I probably have to wait another day or so for another email confirmation.

YES
The money from the cashback waaay back in October 17 is ready to be activated!
But when I went through the final process, it said they'll start in 7 days.
=(
This is taking too long...

Doesn't seem to be any eBay cashback offers at the moment. Maybe they are getting ready to raise it back up to a high percentage again. *crosses fingers*

I agree, there is one though.

So how long does it normally take to show up in your paypal account, once money is showing as "rewarded" in your live.com cashback status.
$25 showed as rewarded yesterda (12/16). But as of today my paypal account still shows a $0 balance.

if it shows rewarded, you have to transfer it to your paypal account, i think you have to click a link on the live cashback website. it will not transfer to paypal automatically. i also heard that it takes 3-4 business days for the money to go from live to paypal

Or maybe they've suddenly realized what a stupid idea this live cashback thing was for them and they are pulling the plug? I hope not, but it's a possibility. I prefer to think that they'll bump the limit up to 24 uses and continue to doll out the cash....

DONT click on it!

This is a theory: M$ is probably trying to gauge how many people are using cashbkr. The less times we click through, the higher the percentage they will (likely) offer.

My own tracker emailed me 13 minutes before Cashbackr noticed the keyword.

I do agree that you could be right with them tracking clicks though.

Actually, according to the Live.com FAQ, the reward is the last step in the process. The step where you have to claim it and chose to have it sent to your account is the "in process" step.
According to the site:
Rewarded We have deposited or sent the requested cashback reward.

So I guess my question is, has anybody got their money yet, and if so how long does it take from the time it was "rewarded".

Once you've gone through the claim steps and it becomes rewarded, it takes approximately 7-days to show up in your Paypal account. Live.com tells you this once you've gone through the request stage.

Yes, I know the 7 days you are talking about. But I think it actually takes 7 days to go from "In process" to "rewarded". Not 7 days to go from "rewarded - (Rewarded We have deposited or sent the requested cashback reward) to actually showing up in your paypal account.
Don't get me wrong. I hope you are correct and not me.

I may be late, but LOL @ the thought of your funcoland picture, not the banning but just the picture. and then it being sent to all funcolands with that pose is just icing on the cake.
thanks for that

I think you're right. I think MS is playing "cry wolf" with the cashbkr site. Meaning that users will try several of the codes given by the site, see that they don't work, and get conditioned into thinking the site is no longer relevant, and ignore the new code words.

MS isn't dropping their cashback rewards. They're in a partnership with Ebay, and this benefits Ebay greatly. And if it benefits Ebay, then it benefits MS, too.

EBay isn't dying and neither is Microsoft; neither need the benefit from each other to survive.

In my eyes, Microsoft is trying to boost the economy a little by offering extra sales to EBay (and now other retailers). Of course they have methods of recouping some of that money (clicks to EBay/etc. and holding your money for 60 days), but I can't see them giving such big amounts of money out forever.

Just because EBay went into a partnership while Microsoft released it's Cash Back program doesn't mean that partnership is permanent like you are suggesting.

Realistically, a big % off deal cannot remain constant on a user-controlled website like EBay. Giving 8/15/20/25/30 percent off only allows sellers to inflate their prices, getting more than they paid for while they can tell the buyers that it's okay, because the cash back will make the price normal again.

Of course, this won't work in all markets (in all items), but for those that don't have a constant massive stock with competition, this will be what happens.

Sellers are taking advantage of the cash back and screwing over buyer. This is why my opinion is that Microsoft will eventually pull the plug on the EBay Cash Back.

Right now may be them phasing out EBay, but even if it isn't, I don't see it lasting forever.

A constant discount on a user-controlled site is not a good thing, it may help boost sales for the holiday, but the long term affects aren't as positive.

I see EBay Cash Back as a nice 'grand opening' to their program, but now that it is well known, I would not be surprised if it became something for normal retailers only in the future. EBay may eventually be phased out.

Of course, the above is solely just opinion and speculation on my part.

I don't see anything returned for ebay. Searched for halo, xbox, 360, elite, final fantasy, etc. I saw results for general stores like circuit city, but never anything for ebay. Dead?
