BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info

No, I think its the Arcadia lvl. I do know of the Big Daddies without little sisters and I realize thats not a glitch. What I'm talking about is I small a Big daddy with a little sister following him when I already harvested all the little sisters in the level.

I had this happen as early as the third level. During one point my Little Sister count on the pause menu for that level read that I had dealt with 5 out of 3. So it is possible to get more than is listed for the level.

How does the achievment work, then? I assume you just have to deal with what's listed in the pase menu for each level.

Oh, the story keeps getting better and better...

But still,
Atlas was Fontaine? Yeah, I saw that coming from hours away. Still, I like how all this mental conditioning is playing out.

I just finished Arcadia and I'm about to
go see Ryan
. I'm assuming I'm almost done?
This is officially the scariest game I have ever played. I am a huge fan of games that are supposed to creep you out (fear, condemned) but they've never really done much for me. Playing Bioshock... I've had goosebumps 90% of the game. It's just so perfect, from the whispers of the splicers just around the corner to the creepy music playing at the wrong (or right) moments.
Really? Fear and Condemned scared the shit out of me, in fact I can't even bring myself to play Fear; but this isn't scaring me at all. (With the exception of the first few minutes of Arcadia).

You're about 3/4 of the way. You are at the part where the story really picks up.

Good, because at the moment I really have no idea how the different stories are connected. I've kinda already ruined some of it though, I clicked too many "spoiler" things.

Same here. The FEAR demo completely freaked me out and Condemned scared the living crap out of me but this isn't so bad. There are a few moments that make you jump
like when you are searching in the foggy room in the medical facility and there is a splicer right behind you when the smoke clears
, but even then I just capped him with a shotgun to to the grill and said motherfucker (literally ).

I hear ya there, I just clicked the spoiler in Callandors post and the first 3 words kinda spoiled some of it for me, possibly.

I swear at badguys in games too ;)

Taking out enemies has never been so much fun. There's nothing quite like a good plan coming together-- especially when you can manipulate a room full of splicers, a big daddy, and turrets to all kill each other without having to use much ammo :)

Make that +1. I'm playing about a half hour to an hour at night. I just got through the part under the medical ward (where you melt the ice) and when the lights went out I litterally started to panic .... and this was at f***ing LUNCHTIME!!!

Yeah, I played through a couple hours today without being scared in the slightest. Some methinks I'm taking a break until tonight, and finding that good pair of headphones I keep somewhere around here.

That same part had me yelling too. Just wait a few levels, you get to a long hallway
where the lights go out and all the corpses in the area suddenly get up and attack you
.

Count me among those that haven't been scared at all, and underwater stuff normally freaks me out. I have a hard time watching any deep sea documentaries. Creepy atmosphere, but hasn't made me jump yet. Condemned made me jump at parts.

Loving the game so far but I have some issues with it. I don't mind not being able to block with the wrench. I do mind that the game locked up on me to the point of needed a reset and it's not my 360. Lost an hour like than and that's never fun. I've seen a lot of bodies on the ground continue to twich, mostly their hands like they're waving which isn't a big issue, just odd. I hold the A button down while looking through things twice(tonic thing) and it plays the last audiotape over again. I wish that had been mapped differently. I love the powers but almost wish that the game would pause when holding down the left bumper. When I've got 5 powers equiped and the crap hits the fan I'm flipping through powers trying to strategize while my health is dropping. I love the audioclip stories and exploring, but I still don't know anything about the character I'm playing as. I know the story is about Rapture, but so far all I know about the main character is that he has a pair of hands.

Still very minor issues in what is otherwise a great game. It's one of those games that you just want to see what's in the next room, or the room after and end up playing it for a couple hours while barely realizing it.
about how long does it take to beat the game?
Took me about 11-12 hours to get a good bit of the achievements done (765 points..I think) on my first playthrough.
Someone tell me where
Sander cohen's room is,
I want to get the achievement.
Don't kill him the first time you run into him... from there on it should be obvious :)

Actually HOLD the bumpers, it will pause the game and allow you to use the analog sticks to select which weapon/plasmid you would like to use.

As far as finding more out about your character, I don't want to ruin anything, but don't worry about it :).

Heh. I already had a similar experience (as did you) when you first get the shotgun. That actually felt like Doom for about 10 seconds.

The funny part about this game is that during those moments where something jumps out and you should be shocked, I don't because before I even think about it, I've already pulled the trigger and killed the guy (damn ninja reflexes). It isn't until they are dead and it finally occurs to me what just happened that I get freaked out.

D'oh. Thanks, will do.

Is it also possible to go back to different areas? I missed a room in the first area since I didn't have incinerate equiped and I'd like to not miss out on any of the audioclips, both for achievement reasons and because I think they really add to the game.

Yeah, just find a Biosphere (I think that's what they're called)

What the crap? Do Big Daddies respawn?

I was in the Wharft in Neptune's Bay, killed one there, resuced the sister. Then I headed upstairs farther, found another one with a sister up in the room with a drone thing that shoots explosives after you. Killed it, didn't see the sister. Went down to look for her, got back to the wharf, and found....another Big Daddy, though the corpse of the one I killed is in the water. Went back upstairs....there's another one there too. ???

I think so. at that very first part in Neptune's Bay, I killed 3 big daddies and rescued 3 little sisters. killed the first one, rescued the sister, then another big daddy came out, got another little sister out of the hole, repeat. Then I went upstairs and found a 4th little sister even though it said there were only 3 in the level. I dunno wtf happened :)

:(

I feel bad for the Big Daddies. They're just doing their job and looking out for the Little Sisters, and here we are just fucking them up and stealing their little girl.

Now where you able to harvest/rescue the little sister, because I had the same thing happen in Neptune's Bay, but it was there because of a scripted thing and not just a random little sister wandering around. No spoilers but if she was standing near a teddy bear, then that was intentional.

Hehe.

Question for you guys I just started the game and after playing the demo a couple of times i remember that when you walk into the lighthouse to get into the submersible(sp?) there was old time music playing as well as background audio when the shade goes down to reveal rapture to you. Now in the full game there was no music or audio at all just quiet. I just wanted to know if you guys experienced that or if there is a problem on my end. I dont want to get tooo far in if my disc might be bad.

thanks,
bill123

Hmmm, you're supposed to hear old music along with Ryan talking, then the shade goes down and epic music plays....

I have heard theres a "good" ending if you save them. Im playing my second time through and killing them all now so I will see. Oh by the way. I have played the game a total of 24:10. Im currently on the level after the medical facility on my second run through on hard so I think I am getting plenty of play time
So, does the ending of the game change if you kill all the sisters or save them all?
Based on the ending I saw, I'd say that there would have to be a different ending if you kill all the little sisters.
Aren't you guys happy we have the 360 version after all the bullshit with the PC version?!
What bullshit?

Graphics card problems?

Ok, having just beaten it, a question:

Is there a reward/achievement for not having any sisters die on that escort mission right before you pwn Atlas?
EDIT: there isn't...
But, you do get one for
not killing Cohan, so that you can get into the otherwise sealed room in his apartment later.

Now I just need to hunt down the rest of the weapon upgrade stations and audio tapes... this might take a while.
What bullshit?

The bullshit activation thing saying you can only activate the game twice. Which is completely retarded.

But if you work around that nonsense, I still vastly prefer the PC version. But yeah, people playing the 360 version are lucky they don't have to deal with that kind of crap.

Okay, I went back through all of the audio logs, but STILL need to know
Why did I collect Roses for that lady? Why did I even meet her - who the hell is she? And now why do I have to go on a fetchquest for a bunch of items to make something to revive the plants? Who cares? What's the point? Does this have any relevance to the game, at all?

Don't read if you haven't gotten fairly far in Arcadia!

For those of you wondering what happens if you don't choose to rescue all of the Little Sisters in terms of the ending this is what it says on Wiki:

On the other hand, if during the game the player killed any Little Sisters, Jack is overcome with his lust for Adam and snatches the nearest Little Sister when Fontaine is dead. The first person view ends and Tenenbaum begins a monologue in which she discusses how disgusted she is with Jack for his cruelty and lack of control, implying that he killed the Little Sisters. At the same time, a silent cut scene takes place in which a naval submarine surveying the downed plane's crash site is surrounded with bathysphere pods from below. The sailors on the submarine's deck gawk as the dozens of bathyspheres pop open and splicers jump out. The splicers slaughter the submarine crew, and the camera shows what appears to be a nuclear warhead on board before the game ends.

The trees are the only source of oxygen in all of Rapture. Ryan tried to kill them all with some sort of gas, you're collecting ingrediants to counteract the gas.

There are 2 videos. I heard a rumor of a 3rd, but I think that was a lie.
Both video can be found on You Tube.

No, there isn't.

Is it just me or is the game's default electro plasmid/wrench "1-2-punch" combo a little too powerful? I just reached Fort Frolic and I feel like I'm not taking enough advantage of the designer's creativity with all the other nifty plasmids. I mean I'll occasionally use the pyro one if there's oil in the area, and telekinesis is great for acquiring hard to reach items, but beyond that I don't feel like the other ones are that useful except in really specific circumstances. I was curious if others felt that way, or is there a whole world of splicer slaying that I'm missing out on?

fighting a big daddy while not dieing, while completely wasted as your friend cheers you on had to be one of the best video game moments i've had ever

I think you're not taking advantage of all the plasmids.
Me? I love going for the 1-2 punch thing, but you can evolve from that.
I.E. Using the security plasmid somewhere with numerous cameras/ turrets with the bee plasmid was fun for me. Especially combined with the target dummy and numerous Splicers.
I also used that for the 2nd round of the fight with Atlas, and he went down pretty fast. :bouncy:
