BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info

This is for those who have beat the game.

I just got to the part where you have to make the potion to save the trees. How far am I?

Should be able to beat it today after a marathon session yesterday. Incredible game, but they really lay it on thick as you build towards the end, don't they? This game is just brutal, and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.

You're about half way through the game.

It was funny. I was just playing around to see what would happen if i didnt kill cohen right away and when he finished and was walking over to unlock the things I had to run into a trap bolt because of my previous big daddy fight. Otherwise he would have run into it and started to fight. Is Cohens apartment the area thats locked inside of the theater when you go up the stairs rather than the elevator
Tree person not very far about half wayish.

Question for people in Olympus Heights (or past that)...
I have saved all the little sisters, but wanted to know if you harvest all the little sisters, is there a
different scene a Tenebaums Safe House? Does she still help you? Since I have saved them all, they all are there in the room saying 'He's helping us', etc. What happens for those of you who have harvested them all?

Thanks!

So, in the middle of Olympus Heights...how much more do I have?

Reminds me a bit of using the bee plasmid while fighting splicers, then all of a sudden a big daddy beats the crap out of me. Apparently the bees did their own thing and made him angry :(
Goddamn it. I just finished
the whole bomb level
and my 360 froze when loading

level.
That is why you should always, always take full advantage of the "save anywhere, everywhere" feature.
Just finished Arcadia. This game is awesome. How far through am I?
There are seven levels, if I remember properly.
Best 360 exclusive so far.

I wanty.
So... you're declaring it the best, when you haven't played it yet?
So... you're declaring it the best, when you haven't played it yet?
Lawlz. I have to say the fanboyism on this game is quite rampant now. I'm enjoying the game quite a bit, and most of it is warranted, but the blind love? Not so much.
Huh. So is it just me, or does the Camoflauge Tonic make security cams a non-issue?
It's just you. It seems useful initially, but how often do you simply stand still?
I thought/think the camo is worthless.
It allowed me to sneak up on some splicers once, but I probably could have done the same without it. The only thing it does for me is trick me into "hearing" Big Daddies in a distant room.
It's just you. It seems useful initially, but how often do you simply stand still?
I don't. I just got it a bit ago, and since then whenever a camera spots me I just stop moving, the drones come out to look for me, I find the camera and take aim, and zap it/shoot it the moment the alert is over.
Huh. So is it just me, or does the Camoflauge Tonic make security cams a non-issue?
Sadly I got the tonic too late in the game (endgame spoiler)
So while I was a big daddy all the cameras ignored me anyway. FYI this is a good time to go around exploring things you missed and taking pictures. The only thing that ever really attacks you while in the suit is the hudini splicers

Does anyone agree that Big Daddies are a little too easy? I set up 4 or 5 Tripwires with the crossbow, then fire a grenade or a Heat Seeking RPG at the Big Daddy, and then I just stand back and he gets killed by the tripwires. I guess you could run out of ammo, but other than that, this seems to be an EASY fool-proof way to take out the Big Daddy without ever getting damaged, or wasting hardly any ammunition.

I need to change my tonics. I have the electrical discharge one right now. There have been three seperate occasions where I'll be standing next to a Big Daddy and some dumbass splicer will come up and smack me. Then my electrical discharge goes off, and that doesn't make the Big Daddy very happy.

That happens to me sometimes too, but then I just take out the frag grenades and let him have it. Usually six frags and three shotgun blasts (I've upgraded both) will take him down.

Anyone else having game freezing or studding issues in later levels ? After getting to the level with the Core, the game freezes for about 1-2 seconds with every few steps.

I tought at first maybe it was just my 360 overheating. I left the console off overnight and played again the next morning... same issue. If I go back to earlier levels, everything is fine.

I also get alot of texture popping during that level. Models will be walking around with very basic textures, no detail or bump-mapped textures like they normally have. Switching the framerate switch does not resolve any issues.

mine started freezing in the last level, it froze at least 3 times. but i dunno if it was just my 360 or the game, meh...
I thought/think the camo is worthless.
Found it very useful whenever security cameras came out. Just hid and waited for the time to run out.

Anyways, just beat the game today,
I liked it, but my dissapointment was that the last act seemed a bit tact on. After the little sisters saved me and I got back to there home, I thought it was nearly at an end, with defeating Fontaine to be in the next game. But nope, it kept going from there. Still, I guess its a good thing, more bang for my buck. Anyways, going to try to beat the game now on hard and harvesting the sisters rather than saving them.

I am pretty close to the end of the game. I am only guessing. Good game so far. I don't see myself playing through it again right away. Partly because next week is filled to the brim with games.

What is your difficulty setting? If it isn't "Hard", it's silly to complain about something being too easy!

I am playing on hard, and up until the very end of the game, every encounter with a Big Daddy was an epic experience. The first one took me nearly an hour to kill, and exhausted a full stock of ammunition for every weapon I owned. I died at least 20 times. The difficulty of these beasts is about perfect; Big Daddies are just one notch below being completely invincible, and that's probably what the designer intended for them to be. Every one if challenging enough to be a full-fledged boss!

Once I got to the end, and had a fully upgraded crossbow and access to as many flame bolts as I would ever need as well as full research bonus, the Big Daddies aren't such a problem. I can even kill them without dying, now!

But yeah, you should play the game on Hard. That way you'll need a lot more than a few shotgun blasts. The only way you'll kill one in fewer than thirty shots is with the most powerful weapon in the game.

It took a while to figure out the best way to kill one quickly, but yeah, once you're fully loaded with health, eve, plasmids, guns, and ammo, Big Daddies are easy. The whole last couple hours of the game you just dominate everything, though the splicers' energy gauges scale nicely to that.

Just beat the game on Medium - the final boss was a bit too easy, but it was still an AWESOME boss fight. I'm annoyed that it didn't tell me my completion time, but I'm estimating it took me around 20 hours, and I'll be playing through again on hard so I can kill all of the little sisters this time.

Is anyone trying for the achievement for finding all of the audio diaries? I'm going to go back and get the research achievements, but there have got to be 100+ audio diaries, scattered everywhere.

All in all, holy shit. Bioshock is way, way more than the sum of its parts; there are some issues (texture pop-in - though I experienced no stuttering or freezing, wonky dead body physics, etc), but the atmosphere and your connection to the characters totally transcends all of that. I can't wait to see what Irrational (or 2K Boston or whatever) does next.

...though if they DO construct a BioShock 2, I'd rather it only be thematically similar, not set in Rapture and with none of the same characters. Just another utopian/dystopian epic.

Full research damage bonus + electric gel + gel consumption upgrade = easier. :)

Hey guys,

I'm thinking I'm gonna wait a bit untill I can play more games before I'll pick this up. I was just wondering, is this more of a single player or multiplayer game. Is the multiplayer good? I mean like gears/halo/cod2 good not just fun for a little while. Thanks

You obviously no nothing about this game...there is NO multiplayer. And while i am a bit sad to see that there is no multiplayer, this flatout beats 99% of the games that have come out in god knows how long in terms of story and fun.

IF they do another game, i wouldn't mind seeing a prequel to Bioshock. Start out in a crisp, clean world underwater. A true utopia...but things start to go wrong and fast. This time we could witness the demise of everyone's sanity. Irrational Games could easily build a strong connection to the main character and perhaps the 'little sisters'.

Imagine the game changing over the course of a few days (in-game) as people go crazy, rooms/buildings/levels are destroyed...

Im about 80% into the game and it just started doing the freezing that so many people here have been talking about. I only have 2 saves, so I know that's not the problem. It didn't happen until a few minutes ago, but whenever I'm walking every few seconds the game will freeze for about a second. It's to the point where the game is virtually unplayable.

I assume this is an xbox 360 issue, and not a coding issue with the game.

Holy shit, that would be REALLY cool! You should e-mail that to Irrational.
Holy shit, that would be REALLY cool! You should e-mail that to Irrational.
Actually i did...but i refined the idea(s) a bit;

"My proposed idea for your next project;

I wouldn't mind seeing a prequel to Bioshock. The game starts out in the crisp, clean, new underwater world of Rapture. A true utopia...but things start to go wrong and fast. This time we could witness the demise of everyone's sanity. Irrational Games could easily build a strong connection to the main character and perhaps the 'little sisters'. Or maybe a select group of Rapture citizens who have managed to maintain their sanity when everything else around them including people have begun to break down before complete chaos engulfs the city. The game could change over the course of a few days (in-game) as people go crazy, rooms/buildings/levels are destroyed...

The goal would be to show us just how great life was (or had hoped to be) in Rapture. In terms of gameplay, multiplayer would be a welcomed addition; The select group of citizens (i suggest focusing on 6 for the main story, though 1 main character with 5 supporting (mainly to further the story). For online multiplayer, players could play as one of the six citizens and fight off other players who are controller the splicers/big daddies.

Or scrap online multiplayer in the traditional sense and offer a co-op mode for 2 players. That would drop the focus down to 2 main characters each with a side story of their own. One could be a father trying to get to his family (wife and two daughters?) while the other is a woman trying to find her fiancé who disappeared a short while prior to the two characters meeting up. Players could choose to play the game solo offline (and also have the choice for which character to play and thus which story), or team up with a friend in co-op online where both stories are intertwined. Online co-op would be the obvious choice for the best story, but for those who want to do each separately, the option is there."
so i just realized i beat the game without ever getting the

I thought you only get that if you save instead of harvest little sisters.

I just entered Fort Frolic. I am going to take a break though since I played the game for 3 hours straight before getting there.
so i just realized i beat the game without ever getting the

You get the first one for saving 3 little sisters, and the second level of it for saving (i think) 9 total. So if you did nothing but harvest little sisters, that would be why. Unless an alternative method exists?
Beat the game right now.

Pretty short.

The game was good, but I was sort of disappointed.

Too much hype I suppose.
Definitely too much hype, but I was satisfied. A shame I got the shitty ending though. >:whistle2:O

game is great...im annoyed i couldnt get the all research achievement since i didnt take pics of cameras in time...on my second run i guess i will have to...all i need now are the Hard, full research, and Historian achievements,

Yeah this is exactly the issue I was talking about. It had it fiarly bad in the core level. In the next level, everything was fine for the entire level. Then come the level after that, even worse than the first level I had freezing in. I can't seem to finish the game because everything keeps locking up every few steps. makes it incredibly hard to hit anything.

Well I just amazon'ed my copy for 50ish. I'm glad I supported the game at launch, but it really doesn't have the legs to stay with me any longer. Hopefully the 360 sees more quality titles like this, but perhaps with a bit more playtime.

Actually, I'm starting to feel this game goes for a little bit too long.

You can only cookie-cut "scavenger hunt" missions so many times before you start to tire of it.
