wow office max sends out cease and desist orders for people trying to advertise early for them? not that I was shopping there much, but I'll definitely avoid them now. sicking lawyers on little sites like this is ridiculous. screw that.
The worst part about it is, the only way one could possibly know a BF deal a month in advance is if someone in Marketing or Advertising for the company leaked the information (so the problem is an internal one and not an external one). The actual newspapers who get the ads early are also suspects (but a newspaper would not get a BF ad a month early).

They send out C & D orders like candy, but never prosecute their own. Websites get scared when C & D come through, but the thing is, it's never really goes any further than that because Companies even know it's an internal problem (and almost impossible to prosecute in a court of law without finding out who of the 3 million employees leaked it and "said persons" stating "Yes, I gave XXX.com our BF deals").

I think alot of the BF sites are run by people who don't have proper representation, so they do not want to go through the hassle and take them down.

Alot of retailers now come up with 2 to 3 different version of their BF ads (not to confuse you, but based on sales before, during and after BF). It's different variations of the same ad (their main BF items are usually the same), but with added (or taken out) sales. I know for a fact retailers have until 2:00 on the Tuesday before BF to change/revise ads and send them to the newspapers. However, most ads (BF or not) are sent 5 days in advance to give newspapers time to layout (place) the ads.

WOW, Crazy how the Wii and the xbox are the same price now.. I wish the PS3 would drop to $149.99 as well.. I want one.. :)
LOL just noticed the consoles were used.. I new that 360 looked way to cheap! :)
$249 is still a great price on the PS3, not sure about for a used one though..
I can't wait for this years Blackfriday to roll around! I plan on loading up on a lot of 360 games!! :bouncy:
Some good ones I recall:

-Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for $15
-No More Heroes for $15
-Animal Crossing for $30
-Animal Crossing w/Wii Speak for $40
-Shadow of the Colossus for $10
-Katamari Damacy for $5

And what turned out to be the greatest deal, IMO: Persona 3 FES with artbook and soundtrack CD for $20.

Many of the deals lasted through the whole weekend, and one or two of them may have been on other days around that time but not specifically Black Friday. It's hard to remember, there was a lot of good stuff.
I loved getting :pc: Fallout 3 at $30 a couple of weeks after it came out last year :)

I also picked up the following:
:ds: N+ for $12
:wii: Boom Blox for $20
:wii: Resident Evil 4 for $10

I was on vacation and I only went to Walmart for BF last year. I always miss out on the Amazon deals because hotels charge a fuck load to use the internet. I don't have much of a choice but to turn to local stores. It's still fun to see what stores are offering around this time of year though.
wow office max sends out cease and desist orders for people trying to advertise early for them?
Having your sales leaked early lets the competition know what you're planning, allowing them to get a 1up on you. That's why they don't like it.

I am planning on getting a lot of stuff online. I remember last year, having all the deals mapped out and getting the squads ready to hit the stores, but then I ended up getting about 75% of the stuff from Amazon because the PMed just about all the really good deals.

That said, I still went out last year and I will still be going out this year. If anything its more fun because it takes all the pressure off the line experience. I was able to just get drunk and hang out in line because I had already bought my major stuff. At this point its more of a ritual than a necessity.

I've got some gamestop credit and going to make some more monday on this tiered trade thing coming up. I'm going to hold my credit and hope they have a deal on a used PSP for black friday.

so do most people think games like ratchet and uncharted 2 (roughly $40 with the B2G1 free) WONT be cheaper during black friday??
so do most people think games like ratchet and uncharted 2 (roughly $40 with the B2G1 free) WONT be cheaper during black friday??
Thats what I'm hoping for. My lack of funds at the moments helps to...but just another reason why I'm waiting.

I can't remember anything great on games the past couple of years, but my memory isn't too great.

So yeah, I don't expect anything much better, plus Sony tend to keep their prices up for a while.

i dont expect any of these new releases to be discounted on BF. your going to see a lot of Shovelware and some games that are cheap that you cant pass them up. Like last BF Infinite undiscovery from Amazon was 18 with the pre order bonus still being offered. dont get me wrong, there could be some amazing games at amazing prices..but i dont expect games like Tekken 6 and Ratchet to already go on BF sale in about a month.

It will be Amazon and Best Buy online for me again this year. Again....ill be in food coma hell trying to get myself out of bed 3 am in the morning.

Yeah I don't see much better deals then the B2G1 at Best Buy...still not sure if I want to take advantage of that deal since I have such a large back log.
wow office max sends out cease and desist orders for people trying to advertise early for them? not that I was shopping there much, but I'll definitely avoid them now. sicking lawyers on little sites like this is ridiculous. screw that.
Wal-Mart had their legal team send letters to sites last month I believe letting them know the "official release date" of their ad, and if they got any of it early and posted it, Wal-Mart WOULD proceed with legal action.

The official release date this year is: 11/23.
Having your sales leaked early lets the competition know what you're planning, allowing them to get a 1up on you. That's why they don't like it.
True, but if the retailers were thinking along those lines, they'd just send out a "fake" ad in hopes that their competition would react to that. Then when the time came to release their ad, they'd come up with something completely different.

The one thing I can say that is good about a cease and desist is that it means the ad was in fact legitimate! Once you've got the information, they can't take that away from you. I just wish I'd made a copy of the Office Max ad like I did all the ads last year. Even though they were taken down, I had a copy (pdf) that I could refer to and compare with others.

*nods head* I have learned a lot from this post

I can't really recall last years GS BF ad. I have around $250 in credit this year and was wondering if GS BF ads are any good?

Based on previous years, does GameStop have good sales on BF. If so, is it new or used items?

I can't ever recall GS having good deals on BF, but that may be because they always pale in comparison to everywhere else. In fact, the only time I've ever found great deals at GS in general is when I'm making money off them to somewhere else.

Also, say you want to buy a lego game.

If you hadn't seen the ad, you'd probably buy it at full price.

If you had seen the ad, you'd think "Hell, I'll just wait a few more weeks for it."

Honestly, GS has jack for sales on Black Friday. Their flyers will highlight new games and consoles at MSRP prices, and pre-packaged useless accessory bundles for $20- $30 that they sell to ill-informed (game-wise) parents and grandparents to accompany the consoles they're buying.

The best deal they could have would be their Buy 2, Get 1 free used game sale.

Yeah I agree GS's deals usually revolve around their used games stuff

and rarely do they have good sales.

you usually can get their "black friday" sales prices on like sales at other retailers

The only thing that was interesting last year was their PSP memory cards. It was low to compete with other companies BF prices but you could get them for cheaper elsewhere if you searched.

I'm really hoping for limited edition DSi bundles from Sears again. Maybe a Mario & Luigi: BIS bundle with a red / green / orange DSi, or a brown one bundled with Professor Layton 2, or a red one with Fossil Fighters, or a yellow one with Starfy, or...

I'd be happy to see a DSi that isn't so ugly, color-wise. I don't care if it's limited edition or not, so far I really don't like any of the color choices.

But that's not really on topic. Sorry. Back to Black Friday talk.

They are not nearly as good as other retailers but they do put a bunch of older games (new) on sale as well as some preown titles that they have a bunch of copies for. Also, they normally run their B2G1 preown sale during that weekend.

Lining up with my buds for black friday has become more or less a tradition now. It's a good way to kick back for a bit and watch some live drama between people in the line. So depending on which store we decide to line up this year I hope to make the best of it.
For what? Still need time to think of something awesome to say?
:applause:

Seriously, subscribe. No one gives a crap what you have to say 700 pages back

Anyway, hoping for a PSP 3000 or DSi deal(new colors please!)

Amazon's deals last year were damned good, and they basically matched anything anyone else was offering. Snagged Fallout, L4D, RE4 and Dead Space last year. Looking for deals on Borderlands, L4D2, ODST this year.

Maybe some more old ladies will get trampled this year...Down with the old ladies!

Last year the line at target started at 7PM...The first guy bought 3 HDTV and a shitload of video games.

I'm waiting on the ads before deciding about lining up but if I do, its going to be early.
