Blu-ray Discussion Thread - The One and Only
Ahhh...you are right. Thought Friday for Bolt for some reason. Twilight is the 21st actually.
Wierd, I think Bolt was on the shelf with the BR new releases Tuesday when I went to Fry's. I was picking up R. Balboa for $13.
My wife is absolutely dying for that movie. Ughh. Although she made me watch True Blood, which has been damn entertaining. We'll see.
True Blood = from the creator of Six Feet Under & American Beauty
Twilight = based on the oh so shitty book....from the creator of Lords of Dogtown

I loved the book, thank you very much.

True Blood was also based on a series of books. However, much less emo and much more Southern Gothic.

What books did u write again?

Twilight isn't my thing, but I certainly wouldn't be bashing it.

I saw Let the Right One In last night and to me it seems like the anti-Twilight.

True Blood is just fucking awesome.
I feel bad for anyone buying QOS next week.

Its just gonna get rereleased again soon enough.. :(
This is true, however, not all of us care for bonus features.

007 movies are always getting rereleased every few years so, by that logic, you should never buy 007 movies.;)

Who cares about a rerelease with more extras? I couldn't give a fuck about how they make the movie, I just want the movie. I am going to get it and Goldfinger. I have a ten dollar coupon and if that promotion works, I should be able to get both movies for like 30 bucks.

Gizmo, Waiting was not direct to DVD, as i saw it on opening day a few years back, and made quite a bit of loot. It just had an extremely short run in the theaters. ;)

True. I think there were three different iterations released ON LASERDISC EVEN!

So I'm lost. Blu-Ray.com and Amazon don't show Twilight on Blu-Ray until May 5th. But according to this thread it's day and date with the DVD release tomorrow. Which is right?

America
Blu-ray at Target and Best Buy ONLY
And it's a Blu-ray book. That boxset is officially out of the question, now.
Yup, this is awesome. :applause:

Good news about the Batman coming out as a stand-alone release. I am glad I did not fork out the cash for the Anthology set. I really only wanted the first and second movie.

On another note, I just finished watching Punisher Warzone, and I have to say that movie was bad ass. Pure action all the way through.

Thanks for the info. :)

can't wait to pick up Venture Bros... too bad they can't release Blu-Rays of the first two seasons.

35 bucks at best buy and 31 on amazon... not cheap

As a huge 007 nerd I'll be picking up:

Quantum of Solace
Goldfinger
The World is Not Enough
Moonraker
Never Say Never Again
Licence to Kill (from the Best Buy release)
The Man with the Golden Gun (from the Best Buy release)
The Fast and the Furious Collection
Watchmen: Tales from Black Freighter/Under the Hood

When you pick up the LTK/TMWTGG/QOS set, can you post to let us know if the films are in their individual cases or if its a crappy cardboard packaging set.

Edit - oh never mind, I just read the Best Buy thread, apparently they are individually packaged. But confirmation from somebody who actually buys it and opens it would be nice :)

I actually bought it a few hours ago and can confirm that they come in three individual cases in a cardboard box that all three slide into sideways. I can confirm there are no slip covers on any of the three discs (and I have no knowledge as to if the May releases will have slip covers). The TWINE, Moonraker and Goldfinger releases do have cardboard slip covers.
Oh hell yeah, man, I'm psyched. I pre-ordered that back in January when Amazon first listed it. This will be my first time seeing the extended/re-cut version. Any thoughts on the re-cut vs. original version?
I thought the Extended Version was a complete waste of time and only good for the pocket sized Sin City TPB you got with it. But keep in mind I didn't care for the original version, so take that as you will.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be picking that set up then. BTW did you get Never say never again there? How much was it? Actually if you bought all the new Bond Blus there, how much did everything end up costing, with the $10 off bonuses?

I bought Quantum, TWINE, Goldfinger and Moonraker from Amazon with the QUANTUMS discount for $77.88. I got Never Say Never Again for $23.99 from Amazon. I also purchased the Quantum giftset with Licence to Kill and Man with the Golden Gun for $65.01 at Best Buy (after NYC tax) and will be giving the 2nd copy of Quantum to my sister. So $166.88 total (incl. tax and shipping) for all 7 new releases (and 2 copies of Quantum).

It seems like to be a wise BR consumer you spend a lot of time sifting through posts/reviews about defective/crappy blu-rays. It's a downer. Whether its poor transfer, lackluster extras, or the company opted to not even pay for the theatrical release subtitles (Let the Right One In).

What I want to know is:
Anyone care to share a few of your BR titles that you consider to be exemplary or of the highest standard for the format? You know: good quality pic/sound, good extras, (e.g. this sucker was made for BluRay).

I feel like I am squeezing a pretty broad question into an already cramped thread...but here goes. I haven't spent a lot of time watching on this format and have only seen fluff titles like Hancock (jesus, I know), Silent Hill, Pineapple Express, and one other [insert crap here].
I guess everyone forgot Kung Fu Panda for amazing PQ examples. I've heard Bolt is another one for amazing PQ.
Great call, Kung Fu Panda is nearly as great as Wall-E and a probably a bit better than the other two Pixar Blus
