Third Man that good of a movie? it's not widescreen so as good as it may be, a netflix viewing might be enough for me.
I'll let you know sometime after Oct. 31-Nov.7 (estimated arrival date).

So movies that pre-date or aren't in widescreen/CinemaScope/panavision . . . etc. don't warrant a purchase for you? Be warned, it's also in black and white.

...seriously?

Well I just finished "watching" Transformers 2 (more like skimmed through it). The audio as a whole seemed a bit underwhelming to me, but it was still a quality disc; the IMAX scenes vs. the regular footage was like night and day, but fuck that was some sporadic AR switching going on.

Movie was much worse than I remembered, but I bought it with a giftcard + coupon, so I don't feel so bad.

Just want to throw this out there to the few reviewers we have here, if one of you gets the new Marylin Manson Blu-ray and wants to unload it on someone I'm your man! Please!
I thought it might have to be the first pressing. I don't remember seeing anything online about it so if it isn't on the site they need to put that or take the movies down. Hell atleast do something.

Also with this disc it says on the back that it has the one in theaters and an uncut version. Most that are like that I see an option to play the uncut or the one from theaters yet friday the 13th I see no option.
IIRC, it automatically plays the Uncut version. The Theatrical version is available through the Special Features menu.
Word on the 'net is The Third Man Criterion Blu Ray is now out of print. I'm not normally one of the types to get hyped about the OOP and/or criterion craze but as I was reading about The Third Man I saw a lot of comparisons to Casablanca and I just had to know if those comparisons were valid so I went ahead a placed an order for it.
It's nothing like CASABLANCA. It is a classic movie, but it's one of those films that scholars and hard-core old-time movie buffs are going to enjoy more than, say, "casual" viewers. If you don't like B&W film noir, character-driven movies I'm not sure how much you'd like it -- but give it a chance, and you can always sell it when it's more collectible.

I picked it up when Amazon had it on Blu for $14 earlier this summer, and did enjoy it, but then again, I like a lot of '40s noir movies.

I will have to double check the special features menu. I don't remember seeing it on there but I could be wrong. Warner still has not sent me an email about the code yet.

The one and only review I saw so far confirmed some light DNR/EE, but nothing I couldn't probably overlook myself.

I have to admit, when I netflix'd Gladiator it was not nearly as bad as the Internet cried about.

No dude... I usually never blind buy and that's a factor thrown in.

I thought the motion comics were separate from the film. My understanding was that the Ultimate version of the film is just the Director's Cut with Tales of the Black Freighter intertwined with it.

There is a theatrical version included with the package, but it is Digital Copy only.

well this is now getting old. I just got a copy of trick r treat in today from amazon. Like the Friday the 13th Killer cut I bought a few weeks ago it too does not have a code for warner rewards. What is worse is it is a new release. So if anyone is buying warner titles that are on the list to have the code chances are new or old it may not have it now.

what up with the lack of bd live extras on the latest paramount titles?

gi joe- nothing
transformers 2- nothing

I find this odd especially when they were one of the first ones to do it right. (transformers hd dvd)

Are they on the official list to have the warner rewards codes?

Yeah only firday the 13th is listed different on the list but the cover art on the site and preview of the movie are for the killer cut version.
I wouldn't watch movies in 3D if I were given the player for free.
If it is shot in 3D and made to be in 3D (of a pixar flick) that's fine. That simulated 3D is terrible though.

Thanks, guys. A purchase has been made, BB, $20. One of my favorite Michael Mann movies and the shootout in the street is still hold-your-breath intense.

Ah frack, Heat jumped up to $17.99 since I saw it this morning. Now I wish I had picked it up. :p

Edit: one odd thing I noticed is that Amazon is offerring The Third Man BR for $19.99, but as "Temporarily Out of Stock". I wonder if this placeholdering a different, non-Criterion version, or if Amazon is confident they'll find another allocation somewhere? I might order it for giggles.

Currently watching Star Trek - the picture quality on this is INCREDIBLE. This is definite demo material for sure. It may be the best looking live action Blu-Ray I have seen so far.

I love that scene.

Gad to hear it. [Edit: It] was one of the free movies I selected with my new :br: player.

Also,
The newest Harry Potter:
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy & BD-Live)
Is $16.49 @ amazon for the pre-order.

Heat is $16.77 at Fry's through 11/19.
What's the word on Fight Club next week? Any reviews out there?
C'mon, you know we can't talk about it.

So is Wal-Mart now selling newly released Blu-rays at the same price as regular DVDs? So far Transformers 2, G.I. Joe, and Up have been $19.99. I hope so, I'd love to see Star Trek, Inglourious Basterds, and District 9 have the price.

Hm, Wizard of Oz 70th Anniv Blu Amazon set is now $42.99. I wonder if I should bite? Leon the Professional is down to $14.99.

All those mentioned are $19.99 at Amazon or less.
Agreed. We're well past the release of LinkinPrime's film of the year.
I like LP so I'm not saying a word. :whistle2:#
Major thumbs down to Disney for DNRing Chasing Amy to hell and back. Looks like I'll be sticking with my Criterion DVD. Epic fail Disney. EPIC FAIL!
After reading the Clerks BD review I have decided not to upgrade any of Smith's titles to BD... I like the fact I'll only have the on DVD anyway, they are Kevin Smith movies for crying out loud.

Clerks wouldn't be much to upgrade on for Blu-Ray given it was shot on very poor film to begin with. Chasing Amy outside of the DNR certainly is a upgrade. Its too bad Disney decided it needed the DNR since the film's grainy look only adds to the look of the film.

My film of the year is Star Trek. Easily best movie I've seen all year.

I am hoping TS is the "Director's Cut" with uh...more...of Moon Bloodgood. I did end up pre-ordering since it was $16.49 on amazon. I dunno why a couple of dollars makes a difference, but I'm going to hold off on Galaxy Quest since I feel it's more like a $15 or less title as well.
Some reviews for recently released and newly released items:

Thanks for those, TS is "a most own." Hrmm, I was probably going to get it anyway to finish out the series. Wal-Mart or Amazon?

Yeah, I know. I'd rather just get them day 1 at Wal-Mart rather than wait a week just to save a few cents. I've just started to see a pattern since WM's BD prices used to be pretty steep. From what I've seen so far, the titles I listed are all $19.99 on Amazon (I already preordered Terminator Salvation from Amazon).
