Figured I should give this community a heads up on something that's started corrupting saves for BL2 players recently, myself included.
This BL2 forum thread gives a way better explanation of the mechanics of what's going on than I can.

Didn't think anything of last night when I died and the camera went wonky and started floating around without respawning me. It booted me from the game, and I said "

it, I'm taking a break", turned off my 360, studied a bit and went to sleep. Logged on today to find my character disappeared.
Looked in my harddrive to see if my character was hiding in there somewhere and didn't see anything but did find a graveyard.sav file. Googled that, and find out I was "infected" by some random player, most likely the guy I traded with yesterday from the Borderland 2 forums, seeing that I play solo 98% of the time because my co-workers and buddies haven't caught up yet.
Pretty lame.
Holy cow, that's frightening. Something similar but not exactly the same happened to me the other night. I was in a game where every time someone died, the FFYL counter would run out but then nothing would happen. You'd just be looking at your character on the ground with an empty counter, and when you held X to manually die, you would leave the game. When it happened to me I was able to just rejoin the game and keep playing, but another guy's character save completely disappeared after he left. (He later admitted that he had modded his character's level from 20 to 50 so I wouldn't be surprised if that had something to do with it.)
