Borderlands discussion - Is Moxxi hot or not?

if anyone would like to help me out this weekend, I need to do the "It's Like Christmas" mission on Gen. Knoxx. Shouldn't take us more than 15 minutes or so.
I died my first time in the armory, got too greedy and forgot about the countdown, and so now it's glitched.

I could still use a couple (maybe atleast one?) people to run Armory or Crawmerax. My Hunter's up to 58 (52 Soldier as well), still on the main story mission for the armory (though I've run the armory a few times now...). Legit, non-modders, please. I have no patience for someone who thinks making a gun instead of finding it is 'fun' (outside of messing around in SP atleast). GT in sig/left side panel.

Actually just lost an 800 damage Defiler with a scope on it, among a few other notably awesome drops, because our power went out for about a minute. Ugh. I guess that's what I get for trying to milk every single chest. :p

I've been testing a few things, too. I've seen all kinds of rumors about Knoxx's Gold (the gun Knoxx drops) having an effect that is similar to Magic Find (or Team Find Rare Items). Not sure if I believe it YET, but I found quite a few orange items in chests while doing the following:

Knoxx's Gold
equipped (sometimes not out, just equipped)
+2 Team Find Rare Items (equipped mod)
Opening red/Crimson chests when the light is most brightest green

I have no clue, but it seemed like drops were almost constantly Purple or Orange if I opened chests while they were bright green. I managed to open one Crimson chest with 3 orange pistols and one purple pistol, and another with 4 purple shotguns. I definitely saw more purples than blues/greens. At least 5-6 chests with more than one Orange.

Though, it's all chance, so I have no idea. I'm all for reducing the amount of runs I'll inevitably have to make though, since it's a pain in the ass getting to those chests.

finally got the final cheevo's for Knoxx and Moxxi. Great game, loved every second of it, and looking forward to the sequel. But for now, I'm done with this game, at least until the last 1 or 2 DLC's drop. Although they really need to raise the level cap to 70 with the next one.

It wouldn't make sense to raise it to 70, we could have almost every skill (if not all of them) at a level 70 cap.

They could always just raise the level cap without awarding further skill points. I think it might have been a good idea to do that with General Knoxx, or maybe only give a skill point every other level-- because you're right, the game becomes less interesting when you don't have to make choices about what skills to acquire.

yeah, or do like Moxxi where you earn 2-3 extra skill points for finishing big missions

or they could always add a 4th branch to each skill tree :)

I'm hoping for more fleshed out characters in BL2, with more differences. Maybe don't make the Siren so damn powerful in comparison.

And the trees need less generic talents. =/

I went to Craw to solo him lastnight..spent an hour on several attempts. Got all of his front every time, but using a 360 controller makes it difficult to turn to take care of worms, run one direction, and keep kiting Craw at the same time...

Having a second character helps tremendously. Not sure if you can do it split screen. My wife and I play together but when she's not around I just control both of the characters myself. I just have the second character sitting at the bottom of the elevator until I clear off his front. Then I just alternate shooting between the characters. The one coming up the elevator will go down, but I can usually revive him before he is dead.

I've done >60 Craw runs and have yet to see a pearlescent. I leveled a hunter all the way up to level 61 just by using it as bait. I haven't started using a + rare items yet, so that might help. I've moved onto RDR though and probably won't come back for awhile.

Funny that you mentioned split screen, since I just started using it (I have nobody to farm with). I actually managed to kill him twice out of 3 tries. I used a Siren as bait (phasewalk behind craw and sit there after shooting at him to get him to turn around).

Much to my surprise, I also got a pearlescent on my second kill! A Hyperion Nemesis (repeater). Very sexy gun, and handy for killing Craw I imagine. Also awesome since I focused on Gunslinger for my Hunter.

I've done maybe 8 armory runs at 61, and two craw kills, and I find a pearl... I've heard some real horror stories, too, so this is a complete surprise. I was just about to say 'fuck it, this isn't fun and I don't want to farm this way', when I killed him the second time, too. I doubt I'll kill him many more times, but sorting through all that loot is kinda fun. Also found an Invader (sniper rifle), which I haven't seen until this point. Still haven't seen any loyalty mods (despite them being bugged), either, at all.

This is exactly why a lot of people ended up duping (giving up). I have done well over 100 craw runs either solo or with 2-3 other people and usually at least 3 +rare items mods and still no pearls or even really good oranges. Also farmed the armory a good 50 or so times with the same luck and it just wasn't fun anymore. Running around with my new toys kept me interested in the game for a bit longer and had me trying to build up my proficiencies, but that too eventually got old since the only thing that made them go up much at all was Crawmerax.

Zombie Island is a must, Moxxi a pass and Knoxx is half and half. I saw half and half with Knoxx because it depends on if you have a friend to help as these enemies are all high levels (you can solo it but you'll have more fun with a buddy or two). Moxxi just takes too much time and they didn't allow for proper checkpoint saves within the tournaments.

I really need to get back into this game. I could never find people to play Moxxi with me, and I got Knoxx right around the same time as another big release (Bioshock 2, maybe?) and so never got real into it. Surprised, because I couldn't put the game down for months prior.

started playing and all ready locked in around 6 hours. I haven't even beaten the 2nd boss (Sledge) due to getting the beginning glitch happening twice (the claptrap "dies" before Ned appears), getting lost twice, etc.

I picked the soldier class since I read it is the most straightfoward for solo play. I also only play offline since I read the patch fixes the rare loot when farming.

I've never heard of a dying claptrap...?

And the patch fixes a ludicrous oversight in the next major town you'll come across (Also a central hub for the rest of the game) which has 3 White and 3 Red chests (pre-patch) which all have very high level gear in them. The problem here is that when you get to the point when your only goal is to farm for new gear, those chests were THE BEST option (though there is a place to farm with 6-7 red chests, at that point, though it requires a little fighting.) and made hunting/farming the 'best' weapons simply a game of reloading repeatedly to jump to a few buildings opening some chests.

Patch makes all of the chests white (lower quality) in New Haven, and lowers the quality of the loot there, that's all. Especially since it wasn't intended to be a farming spot. Also, the latest patch makes 5 lines of text appear on items where it was blocking some mods on several items (you'd never see that they existed, but you'd get the bonuses).

The patch also fixes a few skills for some of the classes, which didn't do anything beforehand.

the first claptrap "freezes" as in it stops moving and making noise right in front of the Dr's shop. this is the intro mission "off the bus"

anyway I beat Sledge and finished all the quests in Arid lands and made it to the new area (forgot the name).

also do you guys think it's a good idea that I keep playing unpatched? even if I go ahead and update I guess i can always delete the patch when I start playthrough 2/2.5

also note that I have not downloaded any of the previous patches either.

I figured, but I've never seen that glitch out in my 20+ characters.

The patch is optional, but you may as well patch up once you get to level 25+ or so. It's up to you, though. Some orange items (Legendary) are wrongly colored as well, pre-patch. I think the Cyclops (sniper rifle), Thanatos (repeater pistol), and one other are White rarity (meaning you could easily pass it off as junk without looking at it). They're white instead of orange.

This game is great in coop, even with just one other person. I recommend trying it if you can. Additionally, the Soldier is mostly support/survivability compared to the other classes, so it only gets better.

Yeah, my first character that I'm around lvl 38 with is a soldier since I figured he was the most basic to get started. What has been my strategy most of the game? Snipe and use a pair of badass pistols, one revolver and one autopistol. Guess I shoulda started off with the hunter.

There's a class mod called 'Support Gunner', which can be great with whatever you find or use. I remember using one with a Chimera (Orange masher revolver), making the clip size 4 instead of 2, which was very handy. Just need one with +fire rate, and +magazine size.

Got a pretty awesome one. Carry one which regens health and one which regens ammo as well and switch them out as need be. Kinda eliminates the need to carry health packs except rare emergencies and some of my orange guns which regen ammo since it saves me slots in my backpack.
Mods - is it possible to give someone else access over the OP? I recently traded the game away :(
Sure. I need someone who isn't just willing, but *will* update the OP with any relevant news. Volunteers post in here or PM me.

Lookin' for some people to play with, hoping to do a second play through with my Beserker, and a play through with a different class.

did some New Haven farming! I can easily get the 5 chests plus the one slightly out of town under a green tent in under 10 minutes (usually 7 min if I'm quick deciding what to sell, though I'll end up selling everything that isn't mid 40s+ eventually).

Rhett, what did you mean by
"Additionally, the Soldier is mostly support/survivability compared to the other classes, so it only gets better."
I'm guessing its more fun to play as the others (save for Brick since I heard he's trash).

Skip the one out of town and you can get the rest in about 2 minutes or faster.

I meant that most of the Soldier's class mods, as well as a good portion of his talent skills, relate to survivability (EX: Healing bullets, healing turret, faster shield recharge, shield capacity, team ammo regen). He's only slightly gimped in terms of raw power, but makes up for it with his survivability. Though, the turret is probably the worst action skill of the 4, since it disappears when you're downed.

that chest takes about 30 sec to get to and back...I can probably get all the chest in under 3 minutes if I had more backpack space. selling and comparing items usually takes up a few minutes.

chest 5 is the one I'm referring to. there are also 3 other chest in New Haven, one near the west end of the map near the entrance to some place I haven't been to yet and 2 in the Hidden Basement in the town (blue building).

Its still faster to just skip that chest and reload.

Personally I find just doing Crawmerax and the occasionally Armory run to be more fun, plus with Craw you can get all of your proficiencies to 50.

I know but I don't like thinking what could have been in the chest and it's at most an extra minute.

I'm still new so haven't gotten far yet (pt1 and first time playing), just messing around for now .

Never knew about the basement in NH, will have to go check that out next time I play although I think the weapons will be beneath me now as I'm lvl 38 and even have three lvl 40s in my bank at Moxxi's.

that basement's a good easter egg, I don't remember the loot being that good other than a rare sniper (underpowered, but clever)

Don't go too crazy about hanging on to guns outside of your level. By the time you get there, you'll probably find they aren't that great in comparison to the ones you've picked up in the process.

For the future DLC of Borderlands i think that features like customizable weapons and PVP games e.g. Team Death Match would be a definite winner

Okay first, thank you Happy Panda for the original thread, and for keeping it updated till now. As per his request, we have a new OP to keep it current with any (hopefully) new content information.

Jdawwg, thanks for the back-up offer. Eastx PMed me and is looking forward to managing this one.

It's like having another soldier on the field!

One's a revolver that has high damage and 6x per shot and the damage is much higher than what I have now. I used a lvl 19 one until around lvl 32 when I found a lvl one that was better. The other's a shotty that is much better than what I have now especially since I somehow lost one that was somewhat the best. I'm lvl 37 now so we'll see if they were worth stashing soon. Had alot of room anyway.

why is the font suddenly larger on this page of the thread?

Edit: Nevermind it's all better now.... that was weird

Here you go.

That was easy >_>

Hate to bump up an old thread but anyone heard anything about the next dlc yet? Sold the game off a while back as my 360 died and just got the game on pc today thanks to steam but haven't seen much on the 4th dlc yet.

Man, today you can get the Steam PC version with all DLC for ~ $18. Awesome deal.

No word on the new DLC. I'll believe it when I see it,

My character save got corrupted after me and my friend played the zombie dlc once. Please tell me there's a way to fix this -.- I can't bring myself to play it all over again just to experience the dlc.

seems like you are sol unless you have another save. did you turn off your xbox while it was saving?

anyway, is this it for DLC of this game? seems like the first 3 came out pretty quick and now there is nothing left. are they pretty much done and working on a second game?
