Borderlands discussion - Is Moxxi hot or not?
Tip of the day: You're doing it wrong if you're playing Borderlands alone. Find some people to play with. Honestly, it will make the game that much more enjoyable.

For anyone who has purchased and played through the new DLC (Robolution), is it worth the $10?
Yeah....Not gonna happen. My online multiplayer experience amounts to an hour of Halo 3 (hated it), thirty minutes of GTA4 (hated it), and hours and hours of Transformers WFC (hated it but had to get that Prime achievement). Just not a fan of playing games online with other people, or with someone in the same room.

Even if I were into it, I know no one in RL that would do it. I have one friend that owns a 360, and he will only use the silver membership, refuses to spend any money otehr than when he buys a new single player game. I have one younger cousin who owns a PS3, but it's never connected to the internet. His house is still, I think, using AOL and a 56k modem. Other than that none of my friends game, nor have any interest in gaming.

I wanted to like this game, I've been itching to get it for six months. I couldn't wait to get home and pop it in, and the install seemed to take hours as I waited for it to finish. It's just not what i was expecting. I forget what level I am, over 10 I'd think, and just started Headstone Mine. But still not having any real fun. I've tried enjoying it, it's just not fun, for me.

Anyway, it's going back Saturday morning when we get out for groceries. Thinking of getting Gears2 and Earth Defense Force, or maybe Batman, not sure which. Any other $27 games suggestions?

The new DLC is just one big jizz splash of collectathons. Ok, grab 5 parts. Easy enough. Wait you want me to grab 42 parts now and I'm only 2 missions in?

Think I'll jump back into New Vegas for now...

looooooooool

Just beat 90% of the Robo Revolution DLC tonight, and while it's not as good as Zombie Island, it's definitely the second best add-on for the game by far. Tons of jokes, new enemies, and areas, all great. There is a lot of fetch quest and re-visiting, but I don't mind that, because I fucking love this game.

If anyone is on the fence, I'd would wholeheartedly recommend getting it; it's a great step up from Knoxxx, and you will get your money's worth with all the item drop achievements.

Borderlands is just as fun solo as it is multiplayer.

You just rattled off three competitive multiplayer games. I imagine that's why you hated it. Borderlands is a cooperative experience. Sharing loot and showing off new guns... working together. That's completely different. Even so, it'd be better if you actually knew people to play with. Why don't you ask for people to play with you on here or on some other gaming forum?
Borderlands is just as fun solo as it is multiplayer.
People say this, but it's really not the case for most people. Keep in mind that I love Borderlands' single player experience, but the majority will tell you that the multiplayer makes it an entirely different experience. For the better.

I spent a few hours yesterday farming claptraps for drops, got like 5 fishbowls, 6 oil cans, 7 panties, 2 pizzas, and 3 bobbleheads. This is gonna take forever.
Borderlands is just as fun solo as it is multiplayer.
Yeah, come on now. 90% of players would disagree with you. I enjoy it solo too, but like most people I prefer multiplayer.

Right, you prefer it multi, but that doesn't make it any less fun single player. For just screwing around or taking down the big bosses, yeah multi-is the way to go, but for doing monotonous missions or fetch quests, single player is where it's at.

Nobody here (except Praxus) is saying that the single player experience is a bad one. In fact, we all agree it's a good one. The multiplayer component is simply that much better for most people. They may be equal in your eyes, but most people find it more fun in multiplayer.

Frankly, multi is also great for questing and collect-a-thons (everyone gets the collectible picked up by a single person). It's not isolated to boss running or fooling around. I find it kinda funny that you say monotonous missions should be done alone. Why wouldn't you do monotonous missions with other people so you have someone to talk to while you do them?

borderlands is fun solo, more fun multiplayer (w/friends w/mics). not sure what it is, but apparently we like seeing hundreds of colored numbers pour out of anything we're shooting at and lewts. hee hee.

It's not really a high number once you start fighting claptraps a lot. I'm already up to 35 or something and I played for about 2.5 hours last night.

I picked up an oil can, is this an item you have to have the quest for before like the dang zombie brains?

The best thing to do is to leave your xbox on for a few hours while fighting Minac. Apparently the drop rate for these items is still shit after the patch. I finished but it took about 8 hours. Now that I'm done, fuck this game

I looked into it, I can't keep my controller on. I don't have a wired or play and charge kit. So I'm just doing a little farming of a few areas until my buddy finally gets the dlc.

I tried Moxxi again, I give up. I'm gonna just cheat with a low level 2nd controller. It physically bothers me that this DLC exists. I get zits on my ass just thinking of it.

NM, I see the oil can achievement.

In that case, yeah you're pretty much stuck with farming. Btw, if your friend isn't going for the achievement don't let him pick up any items, his pickups doesn't count towards your achievement.

There's always the Moxxi level glitch ;). Imo this the most boring and tedious dlc solo or with friends.

Woohoo, I've been waiting til the patch came out to play the DLC. Time to experience ze rebolution.

BTW, something I made out of boredom at 2am:

I played the majority of Borderlands on solo. I still say it's one of the best games of the generation.

The problem is you need to play with people at a similar level, or the game becomes way too easy to level up.

Though I guess the solution is to have lots of different characters at different levels.
I tried Moxxi again, I give up. I'm gonna just cheat with a low level 2nd controller. It physically bothers me that this DLC exists. I get zits on my ass just thinking of it.
How about we just co-op it? Or even get a group of four and tear thru it quicker.
It takes like 4 hours to do the larger arenas each or something. It takes me almost an hour just to do the smaller ones.
Yeah, I just tried it a few weeks ago and found the same deal. If I remember correctly and it was posted here not that long ago, but it seems that enemies scale to the host, so someone hosts with a lvl 10 or so and three others use lvl 40+ and it'll be a bloodbath which should go much faster. It's not like much loot gets dropped anyway.

Is anyone having issues with enemies and quests scaling to your level during playthrough 2? I'm at 67 and every time I create a game in playthrough 2, the enemies/quests are always around the mid 40s or so. It also ruins the exp gain/items received for turning in quests.

Has anyone else ran into this same problem, or know of a workaround to this?

::EDIT::

I found the answer: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Find_Steele

Find Steele serves as the playthrough switch that allows characters to access the next difficulty setting. When the mission is turned in characters in Playthrough 2 will gain access to elevated difficulty Playthrough 2 content. It also serves as the switch for elevated difficulty in DLC4 in both Playthrough 1 and Playthrough 2.

It's definitely easier, but I wouldn't say it goes much faster.

Hmm that's interesting, I actually just got to that quest again last night.

I still need to take on Crawmerax but I want to take on the lower difficulty Crawmerax haha so I don't want to do Find Steele yet. ;)

nnthomas, what lvl were you then?

I only played this @ launch on ps3 so i'm still learning the game but if anyone needs a player for online on xbl PM me, I have all the dlc as well (all map packs). Gs had the game used for $26.99 so I just bought it from the marketplace for $29.99 aka 2400 ms points since I had alot left over. Hope the game lives up to the game and i'm glad it's gotten continuous support.
68
Yeah I believe I'm around lvl 64 so I'll get some more quests under my belt before I attempt to go after him.

I beat the DLC yesterday. It looks like I'll be spending a while on the random drop achievements. I finished Tannis' quest and out of all those claptrap's Ive yet to get one pizza, so I cant imagine how long it will take to get 25....

so i just completed all the cheevos in dlc4 and thought it was pretty easy. all i did was leave it on the minac battle for a few hours a few times and got all the items. the claptraps blew themselves up so that was easy.

so the underdome dlc by far the most ridiculous achievement in my book. unless you get lucky in dropping in on someone elses endgame, it was just crazy tiring.

I left the MINAC battle on overnight as well, and just collected my goodies.

For Moxxi, there is no trick, but I'm using a 2nd controller at low level. From there, you can skip a round sometimes by killing the boss before his cronies spawn. This closes the curtain, leaving the cronies. The timer will go down, and the next wave starts. Kill the cronies now, and the timer will count down again and you will fly past an entire round. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. But a round not done is time saved.

I'm finishing my last big tournament, and will never touc hthis game again. Until Borderlands 2~

im also completely done with this game. playing it seems like a complete chore now. ive done everything under the sun except reach level 69, which seem completely pointless when you've already done all the quests. though i don't have the heart to sell the game since i spent 30 bucks on the dlc for this game.

Just started getting into the game. Have all the DLC. I'm playing through the main game solo and having a blast. Tried Moxxi and realized there is no way I am going to sit through that by myself. So if anybody is planning to blast through that let me know. I would love to get the achievements but doing it alone would take forever.

GT: Renegade Moose

I added you. Right now I am only about level 24. It would be great if we could get two more. I would be up for playing this weekend. Don't know if I can host. Whenever I am host people always lag like crazy. I don't have a lot of upstream bandwith... Would I still get credit for the quests if I'm not hosting?

Just boot up Moxxi with a secondary character. I have a level 4 or 5 guy created just for this. Start the game with him and with your main character as player 2 and all the enemies are easy as pie. It's easy but still boring as fuck. I did one of the big challenges like this. I was falling asleep by the end of it. lol

That's what I might have to do if I can't get a group together. I tried it a few nights ago and got past the boss character and thought, "All right, five levels done. That wasn't so bad." Then she announced Round 2 and I thought, "I have to go through 20 more of this crap." Just figured with 4 people it might go faster.

If it weren't for the achievements I don't know if I would even bother, but this game looks like pretty much all of them are doable so I might try to get 100%.

It is a pretty easy 100%, just takes time. I'm still sitting at 1700/1750 due to the absurd collect-a-thon achievements in the Claptrap DLC. I'll get them eventually but it's going to be so tedious.

Kept waiting for the achievement to pop up and then she announces Round 2. WTF? Actually did another round before I realized I'd have to be up until 3AM just to finish that short tourney by myself.

I've got a 10 hunter and 6ish brute and chick, but my soldier is 49. I don't mind being the low level character, but the higher the other characters the better. I don't know if my hosting would be any better I only have 1.5. Could I host with one controller and have a second controller also play online? I'll have to look at that. Better to have four real players though.

Anytime I'm online I can drop what I'm doing and play. I'd prefer not to play alot of non-Gears 2 during the Gears 10x event, but it's only 10 I guess.

No, you can't play co-op online. The selection is different in the menu options. Plus, there is no option when playing online to add another player, they have to be assigned in from a differnet xbox completely. Hopefully Gearbox will help have that fixed if/when Borderland 2 comes out.

When does it start? I'm not in a rush to go through it. I have Enslaved from the Amazon deal and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood to play too.

My down connection is 2 mb but up is .5 mb which is where I think the bottleneck would be for me as host. Hopefully two more people would be interested with better connections...

Tonight at 8pm I believe and ends the 29th I think. Check the Gears 2 thread to be sure and if you want to find some CAGs to play. Most are still looking to knock out some horde chevos which is a good mode to build up xp.

I'm not in a big rush either, I would like to go ahead and knock it out, but it can wait. I'm still working on some Gears 2 mp stuff, Red Dead/UN stuff, and finishing Knoxx and have tons of other stuff to play. In other words I can wait until we find two more.

For those still seeking the collector achievements:

The method I used was to run through the game on playthrough 1 (because it is easier and faster). Once at the boss, shoot off all the gun turrets and rocket turret and then hide behind the small rock outcrop to the right of the respawn tent. I left my game running for several hours at a time (two sessions of 6 and one of 8). The divine wind claptraps kill themselves and if you are hiding properly, the boss cannot hit you with his red laser. Come back to the game later and collect everything on the ground and floating in the air.

Good luck.
I feel like a more apt title for this game would be Hey, Let's Go Fight Some Goddamn Skags.
That will change.

I'm confused with the co-op single player relation. Does all your saved game progress from single-player carry over to co-op? Would you guys recommend playing this with a co-op partner? Is it the EXACT same thing as single player?

Your character's level/skills/items carry over between both modes. I forget whether quest completion completely carries over or not - I think if you join someone else's game and they are way ahead of you, then you may need to redo those missions in single-player or in a lower-level co-op game to get credit.

Most of us find co-op much more enjoyable (and yes, it's all the same missions, etc.). The benefits to single-player are more time to read mission briefings/etc. and explore. You should definitely try playing cooperatively and see whether you like it better, and then play however you like.

That's right, mission completion in co-op will only count if you are the host, or if the host is on the same story mission as you.

Playing co-op also scales enemy difficulty and loot drop quality according to the number of players, so you'll find good stuff more easily than in single-player.
