Burnout Paradise - Gen. Discussion & Info

If you see me online, feel free to send me an invite. I'm planning on getting more into this game now that I've beaten a couple of my PS3 games on backlog!

Another 6 hrs. played today. I love this game, but my problem is I will be going for my A lic. and I get bored and just go play online (which is sooooo much fun)

If anybody ever wants to play, hit me up

I never understood the hate it was getting. Love freedom done correctly in my games, the type of games that rarely ever get old.
I don't think anyone has flat out said they 'hate' it. There are numerous design flaws that prevent it from being a great game. As it stands, it's flawed but good. It is an incredibly fun game, it's just not a Burnout game, more like a spin-off. If people keep that in mind, they will enjoy it more.

I normally hate racing games, but am thoroughly enjoying this. While the EA Trax as usual suck, the ability to plug my own tunes in it make a lot more enjoyable.

Cant get enough road rage.

Burnout really is the racing game for people who hate racing games.
You power park by first getting up to a decent speed then letting off the gas while holding X (sending the car into an E-Brake spin) and try to steer the car inbetween two parked cars. The goal is to get the tires perfectly inside the white line on the road. The easiest place to do this is on Casey Pass because the cars are parked up against a wall that will stop you in place (which will get you the 100%).

After leaving Casey Pass, the Lone Peak Quarry is immediately northwest of that location - just up the street. Go there and hit the ramp that drops into the mine for an easy 360+ degree spin.
Thanks bud, I'll give those tips a shot. I'll be sure to let you know how it worked out.

Just got this from Gamefly and I have to say, the game is VERY fun. Like everyone else has said, the demo doesn't do the game justice. Also, the game FEELS like burnout, so I'm not sure what the rest of you were expecting. Racing is the core, and it's pure burnout. It's more akin to the original burnout than burnout revenge, but it's still absolutely white-knuckle racing.

Also, you CAN traffic check, but you can't be going insanely fast or you'll crash no matter what you hit. Having a car with a lot of strength helps as well. I'm glad they made it more realistic, actually. Brings back memories of the intense races in Burnout 1.

One thing that I absolutely agree on is needing to check the map to make the correct turns. With the speed at which you travel, this is just not needed, and puts a damper on the gameplay. I'm sure this will get better with time, though, as you learn the layout of the city. Basically just increases the learning curve.

I figured having no retry would be a big deal, but it's not. There are races everywhere, so finding one isn't a problem. It's also very much a pick-up-and-play game, since it only takes a matter of seconds to drive to an event.

The biggest criticism I have is a lack of split-screen multiplayer. This was a huge feature for me with the past couple burnouts, so it's absence here is just very unfortunate.

anyone want to get some multiplayer challenges some time this week? add me to your xbl friend list if you do or send me a pm. Or if someone wants to start a game, I'd be happy to join in.
Online only achievements are bullshit. I shouldn't have to rely on others to get an achievement.
But.. you don't. The majority of the achievements can be accomplished in single-player mode. There are a few online achievements, but they are only for a few points each. The act of offering incentive to play online upsets you? A few meaningless achievement points gets you angry enough to post this?

I'm not upset, just irritated that the growing trend is achievements requiring you be online.

You know what's worse? Camera achievements.
You know what's worse? Camera achievements.
You know what's worse? The achievement in Burnout: Revenge were you had to get your video on the top 20 in the nation. When I read that I was like...wow...hardcore.

^ EA routinely reset the rankings for Revenge making it possible, with a little work, to make it in the top 10. IIRC I got mine for only 15 views.

Online achievements are bogus, but what can you do? Have you seen Turok's achievement list? It has 45 achievements, 30 of which are multiplayer ones. Ugh.

One of the biggest pitches of this game is how easy it is to move from single player to multiplayer and Freeburn online with your friends, so it makes sense to have a good number of online multiplayer achievements for an online multiplayer game.

I do agree with that (easy to get online and off)...
I'm trying to go for all 1000 acheivements in this game. It's not too far-fetched. What do you guys use to beat all road rules time trials?
All 1000? Not before I get them... ;)

Use the Montgomery Carbon Hawker (the fastest car in the game) to do the time challenges.

I absolutely love this game, with some annoyances as well, but overall I reallly like it. I just got the millionare club achievement and it's pretty easy to get really. The best thing is you don't have to sit in a lobby anymore, you're all drivin around when you are waiting for a race to get enough people or start.

I thought Id wait for a price drop before I buy but it sounds like it turned out better than originally thought so I may go snag this in the next week or so.

Well, I rented the game this week and I've had a blast with it. Unfortunately I have to cut my rental short and return it as I'm hitting the road tomorrow. But I'll either rent it again (have loads of free rentals) or buy it next weekend. I had been having fun with the single-player but that kind of died out for me - just need to find all the smashes and billboards and whatnot, but it turns out that is more fun to do online as you are waiting for things to happen anyway.

I hadn't tried the online because I was waiting for CAGs but it seems most have moved on from this already. So I decided to hop into a random quick match last night before bed - around 3am Pacific. I got into a game with 3 other people and got some challenges and the vision-cam achievements. Then the guys started to talk and it turns out all 3 were in England (where it was around lunchtime or so ;)). I had an absolute BLAST playing with these guys and they helped me get some of the tough 4-player challenges done like jumping through the hoop at the airfield and a few others. I'm usually very hesistant to go online with random people but theyse guys were great - as usual, it is all about the people, I guess, with these online games ;). I finally had to tear myself away at about 5:30 to get some sleep!

It was getting pretty boring in single-player to find the smashes and stuff, but I found several in doing the challenges online. Plus they showed me an area I didn't even know existed - the airfield. I was able to get the double barrel roll done there in trying to jump through the hoop. I do need to get that flat spin one. For the life of me I can't find that damn quarry though! I like road rage and the burning routes in single-player but really hate the races. I spend far too much time looking at the map to figure out which way to go and end up crashing and always coming in 2nd or 3rd... So I don't know if I'll ever upgrade my licence to the next level.

But I had no idea how tight the the integration of the single and multi-player was (despite hearing about it here a bit and in reviews - you really need to experience it to see the full effect). It is great that you can find things, set the speed records on road segments, and do alot of the stuff you'd normally do in singleplayer while waiting for the multiplayer stuff.

Also, no load times when cruising around and a completely lag-free online experience with 3 people on another continent. Very nice...

Anybody who wants to play online add "Gator Juan" on the 360 and send me an invite. Also has anybody started a clan for this yet?

Anyone know how you get the Ikuza GT, I think it's unlocked when you beat the game as I just did but I also got a couple of achievements so I'm not so sure? Also anyone else having problems online, a couple of my online friends and I kept loosing the game's connection or in one of my friend's case, the game freezing on him (only happened 3 x out of maybe 2.5 hours)?
I don't think you mean the Ikusa GT, because you unlock that when you get your Class C license.

If you mean the Carbon Ikusa GT, then you need to set offline times for all 64 roads in Road Rules.

My husband answers a lot of questions like this in his FAQ if anyone's interested: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360/file/933706/51610
Oh sorry yea I meant Carbon, I did beat all the Road Rules.:bouncy: Thanks for the link.

I recently got the game with the recent 25% off coupon from gamestop and I am impressed. I was a huge fan of burnout 2 and 3 but I was disappointed with revenge. This, I do admit, is different but it is incredibly fun. I don't understand all the bad reactions it was getting.

I really don't like this game. :|

I wanted to, especially since I wasted $60 on it.

Thanks you just prevented me from getting it .
I was on the fence , I'll save my money for GT Prologue .

Burnout Paradise is a pretty phenomenal game. It is the first Burnout game I've played, and I have to say I love it. Thanks to CheapyD and Wombat's discussion on the CAGcast for letting me know the game itself is much better than the demo, because the demo was pretty boring. This is easily the best racing/auto game I've played yet, simply because it's not just about racing.

Yea I heard someone, don't remember who, say that this is the best racing game for people that don't like racing games haha. I'm pretty open to gaming and I've played Burnout 3 and Revenge but the biggest thing about Paradise City is the awesome online play. Also I love the new stunt runs but I'm a tony hawk child, grew up with the games and there's a bit of SSX3 in this too. I've beatin' the game and going for elite but you can jump online whenever and I've made a couple of friends who now if I'm playing and they're playing we get some challenges going. I've had endless hours of fun online (going up till 3 or 4am) doing random challenges, taking down my friends, doing stunts and/or racing. I thought the demo was ok but there really isn't a lot in the demo compared to the full game.

The full game has sooo much more content and activities that it'll keep you busy for a long time, especially if you try to get all the challenges done. One thing that I love about the online part is that you can modify the track you race on by placing 12 checkpoints, a guy even placed them on top of each other so we had to do 3 laps which was cool. There's also the infamous around the world custom route with the checkpoints starting at the wind farms and ending at the ranch on the West. That custom input is really cool for a console game.

For some reason it feels like a chore to play this game. I really want to get into it, but it's awfully repetitive, at least in the single player. Multiplayer is pretty fun, but I never see anybody on my friends list playing it anymore.

Started playing this at the weekend and I'm really enjoying it, the demo doesn't do it justice.

I have a question though, have they removed the after-touch and therefore the after-touch takedowns? I couldn't get any after-touch at all after being takendown, I was wondering if you have to go into showtime mode or whatever it is.

Yea after touch is not in the game. I noticed this as well. Showtime is the new crash mode so you don't use that to get after-touch takedowns. Cars will still run into you or traffic and crash but you aren't credited for the takedown. The best way to get a takedown indirectly is a car takedown.

Just started playing from gamefly and I'm loving it. The controls are nice and the visuals are great. I looked on ebay and was able to find a mint copy for $40 shipped.

If anyone wants to do the 2-player challenges (tonight?) I'm up for that. I have this rented through Thursday midnight (but can get it again if needed). I like to play late-night Pacific time... I could do a bit of it earlier but that is subject to the whims of my family ;). After 10-11pm Pacific I'm set though.

One achievement is for getting 2 full sets of challenges done - that would be quite a feat but is probably easiest on the 2 and 3-player ones. I'd be up for either of those (or any other number if enough people can stick with it to get them all done).
Just picked up the game. Looking for people to do the online achievements and events. Send me a FR if you are interested.
sent.

I'm doing the same thing.

Add me on as the "hated the demo, enjoying the full game" type. Though I'd still like the original Crash Mode to come back, it's pretty amusing going into Showtime at any time. I'm not too bothered by the no restart option either.

Hehe I just unlocked the Carbon X12, holy hell this car is fast and wicked. Also finally unlocked and took down the hawker and X16 Revenge. Both cars rock, trying to do the burning route with the hawker, just missed it by a second, FREAKIN A. Haha it was funny I hit a car and it went into the ground and starting hoping around while stuck in the ground. Oh almost forgot the reason why I posted, I finally found all the jumps! The last one was pretty sweet too.
I'm not too bothered by the no restart option either.
The only time it bothers me is when you're trying to do a Burning Route and you just miss (like Spybreak8 there) and you have to drive ALL THE WAY back across the map to do it again. But for most of the regular races you can usually just start one wherever you end up. Of course that will become annoying too if you go for the Elite license and try to finish every event.

Hehe I'm loving the new community feature they added to ea.burnout.com. You set the fastest times and try to control the street to capture blocks of territory. I've got 2 smashes left in the game and I'm not going to drive around trying to find them so this little feature is neat, just add friends and the site shows who's dominating where! It's like capture and hold gameplay because you have to have a good time or someone else will take that street. Man the Montgomery Carbon Hawker kicks ass, which you get for getting all the Billboards!

Over the weekend, my 7 year old son made it his mission to find all of the jumps, crashes and Burnout signs (we had about 15-20 combined left going in to Saturday), and he did it. No books, no FAQs, no videos, just persistence and organization. While my wife often knocks video games, even she couldn't take away the sense of accomplishment my boy felt.
anyone know how the revenge rivals thing works? mine goes up to 41, then drops to 36, and i have no idea why.
You get a rival for taking someone out. However once they take you out as revenge they are no longer your rival.

Basicaly you need to be 1 up on them in takedowns over them.
